⁵ And when Kynge Dauid came to Baharim: beholde, thence came out a man of the kinrede of the house of Saul named Semei, the sonne of Gera, and he came out cursyng.

²⁸ Thou shalt not rayle vpon the goddes, nether cursse the ruler of thy people.

⁴³ And the Philistine sayde vnto Dauid: am I a dogge, that thou comest to me with a staf? and he cursed Dauid in the name of hys Goddes.

¹⁶ And her husband went with her, and came wepinge behynde her, tyll they came to Bahurim. Then sayde Abner vnto hym: go and returne. And he returned.

¹⁴ And the Kynge and all that were wyth hym, came werye, and refresshed them selues there.

¹⁸ Neuerthelesse there was a lad sawe them whyche tolde it to Absalom. But they went bothe of them awaie quickely and came to a mannes house in Bahurim, which had a well in his yarde, into whiche they went doune.

¹⁶ And Semei the sonne of Gera the sonne of Iemini, whiche was of Bahurim, hasted and came with the men of Iuda against king Dauid, ¹⁷ and a thousande men of Beniamin wt hym, and Ziba the seruaunt of the house of Saul and his .xv. sonnes and twentye seruauntes with him. And they whypte ouer Iordan before the kyng. And ther went ouer a Botte ¹⁸ to carye ouer the kynges housholde and to do hym pleasure. And Semei the sonne of Gera fel before the kinge, as he was come ouer Iordan ¹⁹ and saide vnto him: let not my Lord impute wickednesse vnto me, no: let him not remember the wickednesse that thy seruaunt dyd, when my Lorde the kynge departed out of Ierusalem that the kynge should take it to herte. ²⁰ For thy seruaunt dothe knowe how that I haue done amysse. And therfore beholde, I am the fyrst this daye of all the house of Ioseph that am come to mete my Lorde the king. ²¹ But Abisai the sonne of Zaruiah answered and said: shall Semei not dye for that cause, whyche cursed the Lordes anoynted. ²² And the Kynge sayd: what matter is betwene you and me ye sonnes of Zaruiah, that ye shoulde this daye be aduersaries vnto me? There shall no man dye this daye in Israel: for I know that I am thys daye kinge ouer Israel. ²³ And the kynge sayde vnto Semei: thou shalt not dye, & sware vnto hym.

⁸ And se, thou hast with the, Semei the sonne of Gera the sonne of Gemini of Bahurim, whiche cursed me with a bytter curse, what tyme I went to Mahanaim. But he came against me to Iordan, and I sware to hym by the lorde sayinge. I wyl not sley the wyth the swerde. ⁹ But pardon thou him not. Thou art a man of wysdome and shalt know what to do to him, se therfore that thou brynge hys horre head to the graue wyth bloude.

³⁶ Then the kynge sent and called Semei, and sayde to hym: buylde the an house in Ierusalem and dwel there, & se that thou go not once thence any whether. ³⁷ For be thou sure of it, the daye thou goest out and passest ouer the ryuer of Cedron, thou shalt dye for it, and thy bloud shalbe on thine owne heade. ³⁸ And Semei sayde vnto the kinge: it is wel sayd: as my Lorde the kinge hath sayed, so wil his seruaunt do. And Semei dwelt in Ierusalem many a daye. ³⁹ And it chaunced at the ende of thre yeare that two of the seruauntes of Semei ranne awaye vnto Achis sonne of Maacah kynge of Geth. And one tolde Semei saying: se, thy seruauntes be in Geth. ⁴⁰ And Semei stode vp and sadled hys Asse, and gat him to Geth to Achis to seke his seruauntes, and came and brought them agayne from Geth. ⁴¹ But it was tolde Salomon howe that Semei had gone from Ierusalem to Geth and was come againe. ⁴² And the kynge sent and called Semei, and sayde vnto hym: Dyd I not adiure the by the Lorde, and testifyed vnto the sayinge: be sure whensoeuer thou goest oute and walkest abroade any whether, thou shalt dye for it? And thou answeredst me: it is good tydynges that I haue hearde. ⁴³ Why then hast thou not kept the othe of the Lorde, and the commaundement that I commaunded the? ⁴⁴ And then the kinge sayde to Semei: thou remembrest all the wyckednesse whych thyne hert knoweth that thou diddest to Dauid my father. The Lorde therfore render agayn thy wyckednesse vpon thyne owne heade: ⁴⁵ & kyng Salomon be blessed, and the seate of Dauid be stablyshed before the Lorde for euer. ⁴⁶ And the kyng commaunded Banaiah the sonne of Iehoiada: whiche went out and smote hym that he dyed And so was the kyngdome setled in the hand of Salomon.

²⁶ For they persecute hym whom thou hast smytten, and besyde thy woundes they haue geuen him mo.

¹⁶ And that because hys mynde was not to do good. but persecuted the poore helplesse, and hym that was vexed at the harte, to slay hym. ¹⁷ Hys delyte was in cursynge, and therfore shall it happen vnto hym: he loued not blessynge and that shall be far from hym. ¹⁸ He clothed hym selfe wyth cursynge lyke as wyth a rayment: yea it wente into hys bowels lyke water, and lyke oile into his bone ¹⁹ Let it be vnto hym as the cloke that he hath vpon hym, and as the gyrdle that he is gyrded with al.

²⁸ Though they curse, yet blesse thou: and let them be confounded, that ryse vp agaynst me, but let thy seruaunt reioyse.

² Like as the bryd and the swalowe take their flyght and fle here and ther, so the curse that is geuen in vayne, shall not lighte vpon a man.

²⁰ Wyshe the kynge no euell in thy thoughte, and speake no hurte of the ryche in thy preuy chambre: for a byrde of the ayre shall betraye thy voyce, and wyth her fethers shall she bewraye thy wordes.

²¹ Yf he do not thys, he stombleth & suffereth hunger. And yf he suffre hunger, he is out of pacience, and blasphemeth hys kynge and his God. Then loketh he vpwarde, and dounewarde to the earthe,

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men reuile you and persecute you, and shal falsely say al maner of yuel sayinges against you for my sake. ¹² Reioyce & be glad, for great is your reward in heauen. For so persecuted they the prophetes which were before your dayes.
