¹¹ Israel hath synned & also transgressed myne appoyntement, which I commaunded them, and haue taken of the excommunicate thinges and haue stolen and hydde them, and also put them vnto theyr owne stuffe: ¹² And therfore the chyldren of Israel cannot stande before theyr enemyes. They shall turne theyr backes before theyr enemyes, because they be excommunicate. Nether wyll I be with you any more, except ye destroye the excommunicate from among you.

²¹ And so Gihezi went after Naaman. And when Naaman sawe hym come runnynge after hym, he came doune of the charet agaynst hym & said: is all well? ²² And he sayde: yea. But my mayster hath sente me, sayinge: se there be two younge men come to me oute of Ephraim of the chyldren of the Prophetes: geue them I praye the, one talent of syluer, & a couple of good garmentes. ²³ And Naaman sayde: auenture and take two talentes of syluer in two bagges, with two goodlye garmentes, & delyuered them vnto two of hys seruauntes, to beare it before hym. ²⁴ And he went in the darcke, and toke it of theyr handes and bestowed it in the house, and let the men go, & they departed. ²⁵ Then he went & stode before hys mayster. And Elizeus sayde to hym: whence commeth Gihezi? And he sayde: thy seruaunt wente no whether.

¹⁴ Cursed be the dissembler, which hath in his flocke one that is male and when he maketh a vowe, offereth a spoted one vnto the lord. For I am a great king (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) and my name is fearfull amonge the Heathen.

⁸ Shoulde a man vse falshede and disceyte with God as ye vse falshede and disceyte wyth me? Yet ye saye: wherin vse we disceyt wyth the? In Tithes & heaueofferinges. ⁹ Therfore are ye cursed with penury, because ye dissemble with me, all the sorte of you.

² Whensoeuer therfore thou geuest thime almes, thou shalt not make a trompet to be blowen before the, as the hypocrytes do in the synagoges and in the stretes, for to be praised of men. Verely I saye vnto you, they haue their rewarde. ³ But when thou doest thine almes, let not thy lyft hande knowe what thy ryght hande doth,

⁵ All their workes thei do for to be sene of men. They set abroade theyr philateries, & make large borders on theyr garmentes,

⁶ Thys sayed he, not that he cared for the poore, but because he was a thiefe, and kepte the bagge, and bare that whiche was geuen.

³⁴ Neyther was there anye amonge them that lacked. For as manie as were possessours of landes and houses, sold them and broughte the price of the thinges, that were solde, ³⁵ and layed it doune at the Apostles fete. And distribution was made vnto euery man accordinge as he had nede.

³⁷ had lande, and solde it, and laied the pryce doune at the Apostles fete.

³ Then said Peter. Ananias, how is it, that Sathan hath fylled thyne hert, that thou shouldest lye vnto the holy ghost, and kepe awaye part of the pryce of the lyuelod:

³ that nothing be done thorowe stryfe or vaine glorye, but that in mekenes of mynde euerye man esteme other better then him selfe,

¹⁰ For couetousnes is the rote of all euyll, whiche whyle some lusted after, they erred from the faythe and tangled them selues wyth manye sorowes.

¹⁴ hauinge eyes full of aduoutrye, and that can not cease to synne, begilinge vnstable soules. Hertes they haue exercised with couetousues. They are cursed children, ¹⁵ and haue forsaken the ryght waye, and are gone astray folowing the waye of Balam the sonne of Bosor, whiche loued the rewarde of vnrightuousnes,
