³ Then said Peter. Ananias, how is it, that Sathan hath fylled thyne hert, that thou shouldest lye vnto the holy ghost, and kepe awaye part of the pryce of the lyuelod:

¹³ And the Lorde God sayd vnto the woman: Wherfore dydest thou so? And the woman answered: The serpent deceyued me and I ate. ¹⁴ And the Lord God sayd vnto the serpent: because thou haste so done moste curssed be thou of all catell and of al beastes of the felde: vpon thy beely shalt thou go: and erth shalt thou eate all dayes of thy lyfe. ¹⁵ Moreouer, I wyll put hatred betwene the & the woman, & betwene thy seed and her seed. And that seed shall tread the on thy heed, and thou shalt treade it on the hele. ¹⁶ And vnto the woman he said: I wyl suerly encrease thy sorow, and make the oft with chylde, & with payne shalt thou be deliuered: And thy lustes shall pertayne vnto thy husband, and he shal rule the. ¹⁷ And vnto Adam he sayd: For as moch as thou hast obeyed the voyce of thy wyfe, and hast eaten of the tree of which I commaunded the, sayinge: Se thou eate not therof: curssed be the erth for thy sake. In sorow shalt thou eate therof all dayes of thy lyfe:

² If a man vowe vnto the Lorde or swere an othe and bynde hys soule, he shall not go backe with hys worde: but shal fulfyll all that proceadeth out of his mouth.

²¹ When thou hast vowed a vowe vnto the Lord thy God, se thou be not slacke to paye it. For he wyl surely requyre it of the, and it shalbe sinne vnto the.

²¹ Then came forthe a spyryte & stode before the Lorde and sayde: I wyll deceyue him. ²² And the Lorde saide: wherwyth? And he saide: I wil go out and be a false spirit in the mouthes of all his Prophetes. And the Lord sayde: thou shalt deceyue hym, and also preuayle, go forth and do euen so.

¹ And Satan stode vp agaynste Israel, and persuaded Dauid to nombre Israel. ² And Dauid sayde to Ioab and the rulers of the people: go ye and nombre Israel from Bersabe to Dan, and brynge it to me that I may knowe the nombre of them. ³ And Ioab answered: the Lord make thy people an hundred tymes so many mo as they be. But my lord king, are they not al my lordes seruauntes: why then doth my lord requyre this thing? why shoulde my Lorde be a cause of trespace to Israel?

¹³ wilt thou therfore saye: Tush, how shoulde God know? Doth his dominion reach beyond the cloudes:

⁷ And yet they saye: Tushe, the Lorde seyth not, the God of Iacob regardeth it not. ⁸ Take hede, ye vnwyse among the people: O ye fooles, when will ye vnderstande? ⁹ He that planted the eare, shal he not heare? he that made the eye, shal not he se?

²⁵ It is a snare for a man to to blaspheme that which is holy, and then to go aboute wyth vowes.

⁴ If thou make a vowe vnto God, be not slacke to perfourme it. As for folish vowes, he hath no pleasure in them.

¹⁵ Wo be vnto them that seke to depe, to hyde theyr ymagynacion before the Lorde, which reherse theyr councels in the darcknes, & saye: who seyth vs, or who knoweth vs?

²⁴ Maye eny man hyde hym self so, that I shal not se him? sayeth the Lorde. Do not I fulfyll heauen and earth? sayeth the Lorde.

¹² But Ephraim goeth about me with lyes, & the house of Israel dissembleth. Onelye Iuda beholdeth him with God, and with the true holy thinges.

³ Then came to him the temptour, & said: if thou be the sonne of God, commaunde that these stones be made bread. ⁴ He aunswered and said: it is written, man shall not lyue by breade onlye, but by euerye worde that procedeth out of the mouth of God. ⁵ Then the deuyll toke him vp into the holye cytye, and set him on a pinacle of the temple, ⁶ & sayd vnto him: if thou be the sonne of God cast thy selfe doune. For it is written, he shall geue his aungels charge ouer the, & with their handes they shal holde the vp, that thou dashe not thy fote against a stone: ⁷ And Iesus said to him, it is written also: Thou shalt not tempt thy lord God. ⁸ The deuil toke him vp again & ledde him into an exceding hye mountayne, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world, & al the glory of them, ⁹ & said to him: al these wyl I geue the, if thou wilt fall doune & worshyppe me. ¹⁰ Then sayd Iesus vnto him. Auoide sathan. For it is wrytten, thou shalt worshippe the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serue. ¹¹ Then the diuel left him, & beholde, the aungels came and ministred vnto him.

¹⁹ Whosoeuer heareth the word of the kyngedome and vnderstandeth it not, there cometh the euill man, and catcheth awaye that which was sowen in hys hert, and this is he whiche was sowen by the way side.

³ Then entred Sathan into Iudas whose syr name was Iscaryot (whych was of the number of the twelue)

² And when supper was ended, after that the deuyl had put in the herte of Iudas Iscarioth Simons sonne, to betraye hym.

²⁷ And after the sop Satan entred into hym. Then sayde Iesus vnto hym: that thou doest, do quickly.

² and kept awaye parte of the price (hys wyfe also beyng of counsel,) and brought a certain parte, and layd it doune at the Apostles fete.

⁴ Pertained it not vnto the onelie, and after it was solde, was not the price in thine owne power? Howe is that, thou hast conceiued this thinge in thyne herte? Thou hast not lied vnto men, but vnto God.

⁹ Then saied Peter vnto her: why haue ye agreed together to tempte the spiryte of the Lorde? Beholde, the fete of them whiche haue buried thy husbande, are at the dore, and shal cary the out.

²¹ But thou whiche teachest not another, teacheste not thy selfe. Thou preachest, a man shoulde not steale, and yet thou stealest. ²² Thou sayst, a man shoulde not commyt aduoutrye: and thou breakest wedlocke. Thou abhorreste ymages, and robeste God of hys honoure.

¹¹ Put on the armoure of God, that ye maye stande stedfaste agaynste the crafty assautes of the deuyll. ¹² For we wrestle not againste fleshe and bloude: but against rule, agaynst power, and againste worldlye rulers of the darckenes of thys worlde, againste spyrytuall wickednes, for heauenly thynges. ¹³ For thys cause take vnto you the armoure of God, that ye maye be able to resiste in the euyl daye, and stande perfect in al thinges. ¹⁴ Stande therfore, and your loynes gyrde about wyth veritie, hauinge on the breste plate of rightuousnes, ¹⁵ and shoed with shoes prepared by the Gospel of peace. ¹⁶ Aboue all take to you the shelde of fayth, wherwith ye maye quench all the fyrie dartes of the wycked.

⁷ Submytte your selues to God, and resiste the deuyl, and he wyll flye from you.

⁸ Be sober and watch, for your aduersary the deuyll as a roringe Lyon walketh aboute, sekinge whom he may deuour,

⁹ And the great dragon, that olde serpente called the deuyll and Sathanas was caste out. Whiche deceyueth al the worlde. And he was cast into the earth, and his angelles were cast out also. ¹⁰ And I hearde a loude voyce sayinge: in heauen is nowe made saluacyon, and strength and the kyngdome of our God, and the power of hys Christe. For he is caste doune, whyche accused them before God daye and nyghte. ¹¹ And they ouercame hym by the bloude of the lambe, and by the worde of theyr testimony, and they loued not theyr liues vnto the death.
