²⁰ But because hys herte was so proude, and hys stomacke set so fast vnto wilfulnesse: he was deposed from hys kingly trone, & his magesty was taken from hym.

¹⁷ If it be so that thou stoppest my people that thou wylte not let them goo:

¹¹ Now I knowe that the Lord is greater then al Gods, for bicause that they dealt proudly with them.

⁶ Wherfore shulde ye harden your hertes as the Egypcians & Pharao hardened theyr hertes, which for all that (when he had played hys pageauntes wyth them) were fayne to let the people go and departe.

¹⁴ Notwithstanding they wolde not heare, but hardened their neckes, lyke to the neckes of their fathers that dyd not beleue the Lorde theyr God.

¹³ And therto he rebelled agaynst Nabuchodonozor which had receyued on othe of hym by God, & was to styfenecked & to harde herted to turne vnto the Lord God of Israel.

²⁵ For he hath stretched out hys hande agaynste God, and armed him selfe agaynst the Almyghtye. ²⁶ He rounneth proudly vpon him, and with a stiff necke fyghteth he agaynst him: ²⁷ where as he couereth his face wyth fatnesse, and maketh his body well lykynge.

¹¹ poure oute the indignacyon of thy wrath: se that thou caste doune all the proude, ¹² loke well, that thou makest all suche as be stubborne, to obeye: treade all the vngodlye vnder thy fete,

⁵ The Lorde abhorreth all presumptuous & proude hertes, ther may neyther strength ner powere scape.

¹⁸ Presumptuousnes goth before destruction, & after aproud stomake ther foloweth a fall.

¹² How art thou fallen from heauen (O Lucifer) thou faire mornyng childe? hast thou gotten a fal euen to the ground, thou that (not withstanding) diddest subdue the people. ¹³ And yet thou thoughtest in thyne herte: I wyll climme vp into heauen, and make my seate aboue the starres of God, I wyl syt vpon the glorious mounte toward the North, ¹⁴ I wyll climme vp aboue the cloudes, and wylbe like the hyghest of all. ¹⁵ Yet darre I saye, that thou shalt be brought doune to the depe of hel. ¹⁶ They that se the, shal narowly loke vpon the, and thinke in them selues, sayenge: Is thys the man, that brought all landes in feare, and made the kyngedomes afrayde. ¹⁷ Is this he that made the worlde in a maner waste, and layde the cytyes to the grounde, whyche let not his prisoners go home?

¹ Bvt as for the (O daughter thou virgin Babylon) Thou shalt syt in the dust thou shalt sit vpon the grounde, & not in a trone (O thou mayden of Chaldea.) Thou shalt no more be called tender and pleasaunt.

¹⁸ Tell the kynge and the rulers: Humble youre selues, sett you downe lowe, for the crowne of youre glory shall fall from your head.

¹⁵ Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes the God of Israell: Beholde, I will brynge vpon this cytie and vpon euery towne aboute it, all the plages that I haue deuysed agaynst them: for they haue bene obstinate, & wolde not obeye my warnynges.

¹⁸ And thou doughter Dibon, come doune from thy glorye, and sit in pouerte. For he that destroyeth Moab, shall come vp to the also, & breake doune thy stronge holdes.

⁶ Thus sayeth the Lorde: The maynteyners of the land of Egypt shall fall, the pryde of her power shall come doune: euen vnto the tower of Syenes shall they be slayne doune wyth the swearde, sayeth the Lorde God:

³⁰ and sayde: Thys is the greate cytye of Babilon, which I my selfe (wyth my power & strengthe) haue made a kynges courte, for the honour of my magestye. ³¹ Whyle these wordes were yet in the kynges mouthe, there fell a voyce from heauen, saying: O king Nabuchodonosor, to the be it spoken: Thy kingdom shall departe from the, ³² thou shalte be cast oute of mens companye: thy dwelling shalbe with the beastes of the felde, so that thou shalte eate grasse lyke as an oxe, tyll seuen yeares be come & gone ouer the: euen vntill thou knoweste, that the hyest hath power vpon the kyngdoms of men, and that he may geue them, vnto whom it pleaseth hym. ³³ The very same houre was this matter fulfylled vpon Nabuchodonosor: so that he was cast oute of mens companye, & ate grasse like an oxe. His body was wet with the dewe of heauen, tyll hys hearres were as greate as Aegles fethers, & hys nales like byrdes clawes.

³⁷ Then dyd I Nabuchodonosor loue, magnifye and prayse the kynge of heauen: for all hys worckes are true, and hys wayes righte. As for those that go on proudely, he is able to brynge them doune.

⁵¹ He sheweth strength with his arme, he scattereth them that are proude in the ymagynacion of their hertes. ⁵² He putteth doune the mightye from their seates, and exalteth them of low degre.

¹⁴ I tell you: this man departed home to hys house iustifyed more then the other. For euerye man that exalteth hym selfe, shalbe brought lowe. And he that humbleth hym selfe, shalbe exalted.

¹³ but exhorte one another dayly, whyle it is called to daye, leste anye of you wexe harde herted thorowe the deceythfulnesse of synne.
