¹ Abraham was old and stryken in dayes, & the Lorde had blessed him in all thynges. ² And he sayd vnto his eldest seruaunte of hys house whyche had the rule ouer al that he had Put thy hand vnder my they ³ that I may make the swere by the Lord that is God of heauen & God of the erth, that thou shalt not take a wyfe vnto my sonne, of the daughters of the Canaanytes, among whych I dwel. ⁴ But shalt go vnto my contre and to my kynred, and there take a wyfe vnto my sonne Isaac. ⁵ Than sayd the seruaunte vnto him: what & yf the woman wyl not agree to come wyth me vnto thys lande, shal I brynge thy sonne agayn vnto the lande which thou camest out of? ⁶ And Abraham sayde vnto him: beware of that, that thou bryng not my sonne thyther. ⁷ The Lorde God of heauen whyche toke me from my fathers house and from the lande where I was borne, & whych spake vnto me and sware vnto me sayinge: vnto thy seed wyl I geue thys lande, he shal sende hys angell before the that thou mayste take a wyfe vnto my sonne from thence. ⁸ Neuerthelesse yf the woman wyl not agree to come wyth the than shalt thou be with out daunger of thys ooth. But aboue all thinge brynge not my sonne thyther agayne. ⁹ And the seruaunt put his hand vnder the thye of Abraham & sware to hym as concernyng that matter. ¹⁰ And the seruaunt toke .x. camels of the camels of his mayster & departed, & had of all maner goodes of his master with him, & stode vp & went to Mesopotamia, vnto the cytie of Nahor. ¹¹ And made his camels to lye doune wythout the cytie by a wels syde of water, at euen: about the tyme that women come out to drawe water, ¹² and he sayde. Lord God of my master Abraham, sende me good spede thys daye, and shewe mercye vnto my master Abraham. ¹³ Lo I stonde here by the well of water and the doughters of the men of thys cytie wyll come out to draw water: ¹⁴ Nowe the damsell to whome I saye, stoupe doune thy pytcher, and let me drinck. If she saye: Dryncke, and I wyll geue thy camels dryncke also, the same is she that thou hast ordened for thy seruaunte Isaac: yea and therby shall I knowe that thou hast shewed mercy on my master. ¹⁵ And it came to passe yer he had left speakynge, that Rebecca cam out, the daughter of Bethuell, sonne to Milca the wyfe of Nahor Abrahams brother, and her pytcher vpon her shoulder: ¹⁶ The damsel was very fayre to loke vpon, and yet a mayd and vnknowen of man. And she went doune to the well and fylled her pytcher and came vp agayne. ¹⁷ Then the seruaunte ranne vnto her and sayde: let me suppe a lytle water of thy pytcher. ¹⁸ And she sayd: dryncke my Lorde. And she hasted and late doune her pytcher vpon her arme & gaue him drincke. ¹⁹ And when she had geuen him drincke, she sayde: I wyll drawe water for thy camels also, vntyll they haue dronck ynough. ²⁰ And she poured out her pitcher in to the tough hastely, & runne agayn vnto the well, to fet water: and drewe for all hys camels. ²¹ And the felowe wondred at her. But helde hys peace, to wete whether the Lorde had made hys iourney prosperous or not. ²² And as the camels had left drincking, he toke a golden earing of half a sicle weyght, & two bracelettes for her handes, of .x. sycles weyght of gold, ²³ and sayde vnto her: Whose doughter art thou? tell me: is there rowme in thy fathers house for vs to lodge in? ²⁴ And she sayd vnto him: I am the doughter of Bathuel the sonne of Milcha whyche she bare vnto Nahor: ²⁵ and sayde moreouer vnto hym: we haue litter and prauonder ynough, and also roume to lodge in. ²⁶ And the man bowed him self, & worship shypped the Lord, ²⁷ & sayd: blessed be the lorde God of my master Abraham whych ceasseth not to deale mercyfully & truly wyth my master, & hath brought me the waye to my masters brothers house. ²⁸ And the damsel ranne & tolde them of her mothers house these thynges. ²⁹ And Rebecca had a brother called Laban. And Laban ranne out vnto the man, to the wel: ³⁰ for as sonne as he had sene the earinges and the bracelettes vpon hys systers handes, and hearde the wordes of Rebecca hys syster sayinge thus sayde the man vnto me, then he wente out vnto the man. And loo, he stode yet wyth the camels by the wel syde. ³¹ And Laban sayd come in thou blessed of the Lord. Wherefore standest thou wythout? I haue dressed the house, & made rowme for the camels. ³² And then the man came into the house: & he vnbrideled the camels: & brought litter & prauender for the camels, & water to washe hys fete & their fete that were wt hym, ³³ & ther was meate sette before hym to eate. But he sayed: I wyll not eate, vntyll I haue sayed myne earande. And he sayd: saye on. ³⁴ And he sayed: I am Abrahams seruant, ³⁵ and the Lorde hath blessed my master out of measure, that he is become greate, & hath geuen hym shepe oxen, siluer & golde, men seruantes maydeseruantes, camels and asses. ³⁶ And Sara my masters wife bare him a sonne, when she was olde: & vnto hym hath he geuen al that he hath. ³⁷ And my master made me swere saying: thou shalt not take a wife to my sonne amonge the doughters of the Cananites in whose lande I dwell. ³⁸ But thou shalt go vnto my fathers house: & to my kynred, and ther take a wyfe vnto my sonne. ³⁹ And I said vnto my master: what if the wyfe wyll not folow me? ⁴⁰ And he sayed vnto me: The Lorde before whome I walke wyll send hys angell wyth the, and prospere thy iorney that thou shalte take a wife for my sonne, of my kinred, & of my fathers house. ⁴¹ But & if (when thou commest vnto my kynred) they wyl not giue the one, then shalt thou bear no peryll of myne oth. ⁴² And I came this day vnto the wel & said: O Lorde, the God of my master Abraham, if it be so that thou makest my iorney which I go, prosperous: ⁴³ beholde I stand by thys wel of water, and when a virgin commeth forth to drawe water, & I say to hyr: geue me a lyttle water of thy pytcher to dryncke, ⁴⁴ and she say agayne to me: dryncke thou, and I wyll also draw water for thy camels: that same is the wyfe whom the Lord hath prepared for my maisters sonne. ⁴⁵ And before I had made an ende of speakinge in myne herte: beholde Rebecca came forth, & hir pitcher on hir shoulder, & she went downe vnto the wel & drew. And I sayd vnto hir: giue me drincke. ⁴⁶ And she made hast, & toke downe hir pytcher from of hyr & sayed: drincke, & I wyll giue thy camels drinke also. ⁴⁷ And I dranke, & she gaue the camels drynke also. And I asked hyr saying: whose daughter art thou? And she answered: the doughter of Bathuel Nahors sonne, whom Milca bare vnto him. And I put the earing vpon hir face & the bracelets vpon hir handes. ⁴⁸ And I bowed my selfe. & worshypped the Lorde, & blessed the Lorde God of my master Abraham which had brought me the ryght waye, to take my masters brothers doughter vnto hys sonne. ⁴⁹ Now therfore if ye wyll deale mercifully and truly wyth my master, tel me, and if not tell me also: that I maye turne me to the, right hand or to the lyft, ⁵⁰ Then answered Laban & Bethuel saying: The thing is proceaded euen out of the Lord, we can not therfore say vnto the, either good or bad: ⁵¹ behold Rebecca before thy face, take hyr & go, and let hyr be thy maisters sonnes wyfe, euen as the Lord hath sayed. ⁵² And when Abrahams seruaunt hearde theyr wordes, he bowed him selfe vnto the Lorde, flatte vpon the earth. ⁵³ And the seruaunt toke forthe iewels of siluer, & iewels of golde, & rayment, & gaue them to Rebecca: but vnto hyr brother, & to hir mother he gaue spyces. ⁵⁴ And then they ate and dranke both he & the men that were wt him, and taried al nyght and rose vp in the mornyng. And he sayed: let me depart vnto my master. ⁵⁵ But hir brother and hir mother sayed: let the damsel abyde with vs a whyle, & it be but euen ten dayes, and then go the wayes. ⁵⁶ And he sayed vnto them: hinder me not for the Lord hath prospered my iorney. Sende me awaye that I may go vnto my master. ⁵⁷ And they sayd: let vs call the damsell, & witt what she saith to the matter. ⁵⁸ And they called forth Rebecca, and said vnto hyr: wilte thou go wyth this man? And she sayed: yea. ⁵⁹ So they let Rebecca theyr syster go wyth hir nurse & Abrahams seruaunte, & the men that were wyth him. ⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebecca, & sayd vnto hyr: Thou art oure syster growe into thousande thousandes, and thy seed possesse the gates of theyr enemies. ⁶¹ And Rebecca arose & hir damsels, & sat them vp vpon the camels, & went theyr way after the man. And the seruaunt toke Rebecca, & went his way. ⁶² And Isaac was a commynge from the wel of the lyuynge & seynge, for he dwelt in the south contrey, ⁶³ & was gone out to walke in his meditations before the euen tide. And he lift vp his eyes & loked, and beholde the camels were comming. ⁶⁴ And Rebecca lyft vp hir eyes & when she sawe Isaac, she lighted of the camel, ⁶⁵ & sayd vnto the seruaunt: what man is this that cometh against vs in the feld? And the seruaunt sayd: it is my master. And then she toke hyr mantil, & put it about hyr. ⁶⁶ And the seruaunt tolde Isaac all that he had done. ⁶⁷ Then Isaac broughte hir into hys mother Saras tente, and toke Rebecca, and she became hys wyfe. & he loued hir: & so was Isaac comforted ouer hys mother.

² And I wyll make of the a myghty people, and wyll blesse the, and make thy name greate, that thou maiste be a blessynge.

² Abram was verye ryche in cattell, syluer, & golde.

¹¹ Abraham and Sara were both olde and well stryken in age, and it ceased to be wyth Sara after the maner as it is with wyues.

⁵ And Abraham was an hundred yere old, when his sonne Isaac was borne vnto him.

³⁵ and the Lorde hath blessed my master out of measure, that he is become greate, & hath geuen hym shepe oxen, siluer & golde, men seruantes maydeseruantes, camels and asses.

²⁰ And Isaac was .xl. yere old when he toke Rebecca to wyfe, the doughter of Bethuel the Sirian of Mesopotamia & sister to Laban the Sirien.

²⁵ Thy fathers God shall helpe the, & the almyghtie shal blesse the wt blessynges from heauen aboue, and wyth blessynges of the water that lieth vnder, & with blessynges of the brestes and of the wombe.

¹ When Kynge Dauid was waxen olde and stryken in yeares, thoughe they couered him with clothes yet he caught no heate.

¹ Prayse the euerlastynge. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, and hath great delite in hys commaundementes. ² Hys sede shal be mighty vpon earth the generacyon of the faythfull shalbe blessed. ³ Ryches and, plenteousnesse shalbe in hys house, and hys ryghtuousnesse endureth for euer.

²² The blessing of the Lord maketh rich men, as for carefull trauayle, it doth nothynge therto.

² Consydre Abraham youre father, & Sara that bare you: how that I called him alone prospered hym well, & encreased him:

³³ But rather seke ye first the kyngdome of heauen and the rightuousnes therof, & all these thynge shalbe ministred vnto you.

⁷ And they had no childe: because that Elyzabeth was barren, and both were well striken in age.

⁹ So then they whiche be of faythe are blessed with faythful Abraham.

³ Blessed be God the father of oure Lorde Iesus Christe, which hath blessed vs wyth all maner of spyrytuall blessynges in heauenlye thynges by Christe,

⁸ For bodely exercyse profyteth lytell: But godlynes is good vnto all thynges, as a thynge whiche hath promyses of the lyfe that is now, and of the lyfe to come.

² And Abram answered: Lorde Iehouah, what wylte thou gyue me: I go childeles, and the cater of myne house, thys Eleasar of Damasco hath a sonne.

⁹ And the seruaunt put his hand vnder the thye of Abraham & sware to hym as concernyng that matter. ¹⁰ And the seruaunt toke .x. camels of the camels of his mayster & departed, & had of all maner goodes of his master with him, & stode vp & went to Mesopotamia, vnto the cytie of Nahor.

⁴ Wherfore he founde grace in his masters syghte, and serued him. And hys mayster made hym ruelar of hys house, and put al that he had in hys hand. ⁵ And as soone as he had made him ruelar ouer his house & ouer al that he had, the Lorde blessed this Egyptians house for Ioseps sake, and the blessynge of the Lorde was vpon all that he had: both in the house & also in the feldes. ⁶ And therfore he left all that he had in Iosephs hande, & loked vpon nothing that was with him, saue only on the bread which he ate. And Ioseph was a goodly persone and a wel fauored.

⁸ But he denyed & sayde to her: Beholde, my master woteth not what he hath in the house wt me, but hath commytted all that he hath to my hande. ⁹ He him selfe is not greater in the house than I, and hath kepte nothyng from me, but only the because thou art hys wyfe. How than can I do thys great wykydnes, for to synne agaynst God?

¹ And he commaunded the ruler of his house saying: fyl the mens sackes with food, as moche as they can carye,

²⁹ When the tyme drewe nye, that Israel must dye: he sent for hys sonne Ioseph and sayde vnto hym: If I haue founde grace in thy syghte, put thy hande vnder my thye & deale mercyfully and truely wyth me, that thou burye me not in Egypte:

²⁴ And all the Lordes and men of power, & therto all the sonnes of Kynge Dauid submytted them selues vnder kynge Salomon.

¹⁷ The elders that rule well, are worthye of double honoure, most specyally they whiche laboure in the worde and in teachynge.

² that sonnes of god saw the daughters of men that they were fayre, and toke vnto them wyues, which they best lyked among them all.

⁴ There were tyrantes in the world in those dayes. For after that the chyldren of god had gone in, vnto the daughters of men, & had begotten them chyldren, the same chyldren were the mightiest of the world, & men of renowne.

¹⁵ Canaan also begat Zidon hys eldest sonne & Heth, ¹⁶ Iebusi, Emori, Girgosi, ¹⁷ Him, Arki. Sini, ¹⁸ Aruadi, Zemari, & Harmati. And afterward sprange the kinreds of the Cananites. ¹⁹ And the costes of the Cananites were from Sydon tyll thou come to Gerara & to Asa, & tyl thou come to Sodoma, Gomorra, Adama, Zeboim, euen vnto Lasa.

¹⁹ blessed him saying: Blessed be Abram vnto the most highest God, possessor of heauen & earth.

²² And Abram answered the kinge of Sodome: I lyfte vp my hande vnto the Lord God moste high possessor of heauen & earth,

²³ Now therfore swere vnto me euen here by god, that thou wylt not hurt me nor my chyldren, nor my chyldrens chyldren. But that thou shalt deale wyth me & the contre where thou art a straunger, acordynge vnto the kyndnesse that I haue sheweth the.

²⁸ Then sayed they: we sawe that the Lorde was wyth the, & therfore we sayed that there should be an oothe betwexte vs & the, & that we woulde make a bond wyth the, ²⁹ that thou shouldest do vs no hurt, as we haue not touched the, and haue done vnto the nothynge but good, & sent the away in peace: for thou art nowe the blessed of the Lorde. ³⁰ And he made them a feast, and they ate & dronke. ³¹ And they rose vp by tymes in the morninge, and sware one to an other, And Isaac sent them away. And they departed from hym in peace.

³⁴ When Esau was .xl. yere old, he toke to wyfe Iudith the doughter of Bery an Hethyte, & Basmath the doughter of Elou an Hethite, ³⁵ also whyche were disobedient vnto Isaac and Rebecca.

⁴⁶ And Rebecca spake to Isaac: I am werye of my life, for feare of the doughters of Heth. If Iacob take a wife of the doughters of Heth, such one as these are, or of the daughters of the land, what lust shold I haue to lyue.

⁸ and seynge also that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac hys father:

⁴⁴ Now therfore come on: let vs make a bond, I and thou togyther, & let it be a wytnes betwene the & me. ⁴⁵ Then toke Iacob a stone and set it vp an ende, ⁴⁶ and sayed vnto his brethren, gather stones. And they toke stones, & made an heape, and they ate ther vpon the heape. ⁴⁷ And Laban called it Iegar Sahadutha, but Iacob called it Gilead. ⁴⁸ Then sayed Laban: thys heape be wytnes betwene the & me this day (therfore is it called Gilead) ⁴⁹ & this totehil which the Lord seeth (sayd he) be wytnesse betwene me and the when we are departed one from another ⁵⁰ that thou shalt not vexe my daughters neyther shalt take other wyues vnto them. Here is no man wyth vs: behold God is wytnes betwyxt the and me. ⁵¹ And Laban sayd more ouer to Iacob: beholde, this heape and thys marke whych I had set here, betwyxte me, & the: ⁵² this heape be wytnesse & also this marke that I wyll not come ouer this heape to the, & thou shalte not come ouer thys heape and marke to do any harme. ⁵³ The God of Abraham, the God of Nahor, & the God of their fathers be Iudge betwyxt vs. And Iacob sware by him that his father Isaac feared.

²⁵ And Ioseph toke an ooth of the chyldren of Israel and sayd: God wyl not fayle but vpset you: se therfore that ye cary my boones hence.

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vayne, for the Lord wil not hold him giltlesse that taketh his name in vayne.

¹¹ then shall an othe of the Lord goo betwene them, whether he haue put hys hand vnto his neyghbours good: & the owner of it shall take the othe, and the other shal not make it good:

¹³ And in all thinges that I haue said vnto you be circumspecte. And make no rehersall of the names of straunge goddes, nether let anye man heare them oute of youre mouthes.

¹⁶ and thou take of theyr daughters vnto thy sonnes, and when theyr daughters goo a whorynge after theyr Goddes,

¹² Ye shal not swere by my name falselye: that thou defylest not the name of thy God, I am the Lord.

²¹ (and let the preast coniure her wyth the coniuracion of the curse & say vnto her) the Lord make the a curse and a coniuracion amonge thy people: so that the Lord make thy thygh rotte, and thy bely swel

¹³ But feare the Lorde thy God and serue him, and sweare by his name,

³ neyther gyue thy daughter vnto hys sone, nor take hys daughter vnto thy sonne. ⁴ For they wyl make your Sonnes departe fro me, and serue straunge Goddes, and then wyll the wrathe of the Lorde waxe whote vpon you and destroye you shortely.

²⁰ Thou shalt feare thy Lord thy God & serue him, and cleaue vnto him, & sweare by his name,

¹² Now therfore sweare vnto me by the Lorde because I haue shewed you mercye, that ye shall also shewe mercye vnto my fathers house, and geue me a true token.

¹⁷ And with other wordes Ionathas adiured Dauid, because he loued hym. For as hys owne soule he loued hym.

¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before the Lorde and sayde: Lorde God of Israell, whych dwellest betwene the Cherubes, thou art God alone ouer all the kyngedomes of the earthe, and thou hast made bothe heauen and earthe.

¹² And Hiram sayde moreouer: blessed be the Lord God of Israel which hath made bothe heauen and earth, that he hath geuen Dauid the kynge a wyse sonne that hath discrecyon and vnderstandynge, to buylde an house for the Lorde, and auother for his kingdome.

⁶ Lorde, thou alone haste made heauen, & the heauen of al heauens, with all theyr host the earth & all that is therein, the sea and all that is therein: thou geuest lyfe vnto all, & the host of heauen bowe them selues vnto the.

²⁵ And I reproued them, & cursed them, and smote certaine men of them, and pluckte them vp, and toke an othe of them by God: Ye shall not gene youre doughters vnto theyr sonnes, neyther shal ye take theyr doughters vnto youre sonnes, or for your selues.

¹⁵ For ye are the blessed of the Lord, whych made heauen and earth.

²³ I sweare by my selfe, out of my mouth commeth the worde of ryghtuousnesse, and that maye no man turne: but all knees shall bowe vnto me, and all tunges shall sweare by me,

¹ Heare this, O thou house of Iacob: ye that are called by the name of Israel, and are come oute of one stocke with Iuda, whiche sweare by the name of the Lorde, & beare wytnesse by the God of Israell (but not with trueth & righte)

¹⁶ Who so reioyseth vpon earthe shall reioyse in the true God. And who so sweareth vpon earth, shal sweare in the true God. For the olde emnyte shalbe forgotten and taken awaye out of my syght.

² And shalt sweare: The Lorde liueth: in truthe, in equyte and ryghteousnesse: and al people shalbe fortunable and ioyful in him.

¹¹ As for theyr Goddes, it maye well be sayde of them: they are Goddes, that made neyther heauen nor earthe: therfore shall they peryshe from the earthe, & from al thynges vnder heauen

¹⁶ And yf they (namely that trouble my people) wyll lerne the wayes of them, to sweare by my name: The Lorde lyueth (lyke as they lerned my people to sweare by Baal) then shall they be rekened amonge my people.

⁵ yea and suche as vpon theyr house toppes worshyppe and bowe them selues vnto the host of heauen: whiche sweare by the Lorde, & by theyr Malchom also:

³⁹ The wife is bounde to the lawe as longe as her husband liueth. If her husbande slepe, she is at libertye to mary with whome she wyll, onely in the Lorde.

¹⁴ Sette your selues therfore at large, and beare not a straungers yoke with the vnbeleuers. For what feloweshyppe hath ryghtuousnes with vnryghtuousnes? What companye hath lyght with darkenes? ¹⁵ What concorde hath Christe with Belyall? Eyther what parte hath he that beleueth with an infydele? ¹⁶ Howe agreeth the temple of God with Images. And ye are the temple of that lyuynge God, as sayed God. I wyll dwell amonge them, and walke among them, and wyll be theyr God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Wherfore come out from among them, and separate youre selues (sayeth the Lorde) and touche none vncleane thynge: so wyll I receyue you,

¹⁶ Men verelye sweare by hym that is greater then them selues, & an othe to confyrme the thynge, is amonge them an ende of all stryfe.

²⁵ and lyued after he had begat Terah, an hundred and .xix. yeare and begat sonnes and doughters.

⁷ Then the Lorde appeared vnto Abram & sayd: vnto thy seed wyll I gyue this lande. And he builded an aulter ther vnto the Lord whyche appeared vnto hym.

²⁰ And it chaunsed after these thynges, that one tolde Abraham sayng: Behold, Milcha she hath also borne chyldren vnto thy brother Nachor: ²¹ Hus hys eldest sonne and Bus hys brother, and Kemuell the father of the Syrians, ²² and Cesed, and Haso, and Pyldas, and Iedlaph, and Bethuel. ²³ And Bethuel begat Rebecca. These .viij. dyd Milcha bere to Nachor Abrahams brother.

² but aryse and gette the to Mesapotamia to the house of Bethuel thy mothers father: & ther take the a wyfe of the daughters of Laban thy mothers brother.

⁵⁸ And they called forth Rebecca, and said vnto hyr: wilte thou go wyth this man? And she sayed: yea.

² If thou wylt not let them go but wylt hold them styl:

¹⁶ A wyse man doth al thinges with dyscrecyon, but a foole wyl declare his folly.

¹ Stande fast therfore in the lybertye wherewith Christ hath made vs free and wrappe not your selues againe in the yoke of bondage.

³⁹ We are not whych wythdrawe our selues vnto dampnacyon, but partayne to faith, to the winnynge of the soule.

⁹ By fayth he remoued into the lande that was promysed hym, as into a straunge countreye, and dwelte in tabernacles: and so dyd Isaac and Iacob, heyres wyth hym of the same promes.

¹³ And they all dyed in fayth, and receyued not the promyses: but sawe them a farre of, & beleued them; and saluted them: and confessed that they were straungers and pylgrems on the earthe. ¹⁴ They that saye suche thynges, declare that they seke a countreye. ¹⁵ Also yf they had bene myndefull of that countreye from whence they came oute, they had leasure to haue returned agayne. ¹⁶ But nowe they desyre a better, that is to saye an heauenlye. Wherfor God is not ashamed of them euen to be called theyr God: for he hath prepared for them a cytye.

²⁰ For yf they, after they haue escaped from the fylthines of the worlde thorowe the knowledge yf the Lord and of the sauiour Iesus Christe, are yet tangled agayne therin and ouercome, then is the latter ende worsse wyth them then the beginninge. ²¹ For it had bene better for them not haue knowen the way of rightuousnes then after they haue knowen it to turne from the commaundementes geuen vnto them. ²² It is happened to them accordinge to the true prouerbe: The dogge is turned to his vomet againe, and the sowe that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.

¹ Then the Lorde sayed vnto Abram. Get the out of thy contrye and frome thy kyndred, and oute of thy fathers house, into a Lande whyche I wyll shewe the. ² And I wyll make of the a myghty people, and wyll blesse the, and make thy name greate, that thou maiste be a blessynge. ³ And I wyl blesse them that blesse the and cursse them that cursse the. And in the shal be blessed al the generations of the earth. ⁴ And Abram went as the lord badde hym, and Lot wente wyth hym. Abram was .lxxv. yere olde when he went out of Haran. ⁵ And Abram toke Sarai hys wyfe, and Lot hys brothers son, wt al their goodes which they had gotten, and soules whiche they had begotten in Haran. And they departed in goo into the Lande of Canaan. ⁶ And when they were come into the Lande of Canaan, Abram went forthe into the Lande tyl he came vnto a place called Sichem, & vnto the oke of More. And the Kananytes dwelled then in the lande. ⁷ Then the Lorde appeared vnto Abram & sayd: vnto thy seed wyll I gyue this lande. And he builded an aulter ther vnto the Lord whyche appeared vnto hym.

¹⁵ for all the Lande whyche thou seest, wyl I gyue vnto the, & to thy sede for euer.

¹⁸ And that same daye the Lorde made a couenaunte with Abram sayinge: vnto thy seed wyl I geue this land, from the riuer of Egypt, euen vnto the greate ryuer Euphrates,

⁸ And I wyl geue vnto the and to thy seed after the, the lande where in thou arte a straunger: Euen all the lande of Canaan, for an euerlastynge possession & wyl be their God.

¹⁶ by my selfe haue I sworne (sayth the Lord) because thou hast done this thynge and hast not spared thy only sonne, ¹⁷ that I wyll blesse the & multiplie thy seed as the starres of heauen and as the sande vpon the sea syde. And thy seed shall possesse the gates of hys enymies. ¹⁸ And in thy seed shal al the nacions of the erth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my voyce.

³ soiourne in thys lande, and I wyll be wyth the, and wyll blesse the: for vnto the, and vnto thy seed, I wil giue al these contryes. And I wyl perfourme the oth which I sware vnto Abraham thy father, ⁴ & wyl multiply thy sede as the stars of heauen, & will gyue vnto thy sede al these contries. And thorow thi sede shal all the nacions of the earth be blessed,

²⁴ And the Lorde appeared vnto hym the same nyght, & sayd: I am the God of Abraham thy father, feare not for I am wyth the, and wyll blesse the, and multiply thy sede for my seruaunt Abrahams sake.

⁵ When the Lord hath brought the into the lande of the Cananytes, Hethites, Amorites Heuytes & Iebusites, whiche he sware vnto thy fathers that he wolde geue the a lande where in mylcke & hony floweth, then se that thou kepe this seruice in thys same moneth.

²⁰ Beholde, I sende myne aungel before the to kepe the in the waye, & to bryng the into the place whych I haue prepared. ²¹ Beware of him & heare his voice and angre him not: for he will not spare youre mysdedes, yea, and my name is in hym. ²² But & if thou shalt herken vnto hys voyce & kepe all that I shal tel the, then I wilbe an enemy vnto thyne enemies and an aduersary vnto thine aduersaries. ²³ When myne aungel goeth before the & hath brought the in vnto the Amorites, Hethithes, Pherezites, Cananites, Heuites and Iebusites & I shall haue destroyed them,

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel thy seruauntes, to whom thou sworest by thyne owne selfe & saidest vnto them. I wyll multiplye youre seed as the starres of heauen, and all thys lande which I haue sayd, I wyll geue vnto youre seede: and they shal enheret it for euer

² And I wyll sende an angell before the, & wyll cast out the Cananytes, the Amorytes, the Hethites, the Pherezites, the Heuites, & the Iebusytes:

¹⁶ because the Lorde was not able to brynge in thys people in to the land which he sware vnto them, therfore he slewe them in the wyldernesse.

³⁰ come into the land ouer which I lyfted mine hande to make you dwel therin, saue Caleb the sonne of Iephune, and Iosua the sonne of Nun.

¹¹ None of the men that came out of Egypte from twenty yere olde and aboue, shal se the lande whych I sware vnto Abraham, Isaac and Iacob, because they haue not contynually folowed me:

⁸ Beholde, I haue sett the land before you: goo in therfore & possess the land whiche the Lorde sware vnto youre fathers Abraham, Isaac and Iacob, to geue vnto them and their seade after them.

⁴ And the Lorde sayed vnto him. This is the laud which I sware vnto Abraham, Isaac, and Iacob sayinge: I wyll giue it to thy sede. I haue shewed it the before thyne eyes: but thou shalt not goo ouer thyther.

⁶ Be strong and bolde: for vnto thys people shalt thou deuyde the land which I sware vnto theyr fathers to geue them.

¹ And the angell of the Lorde came vp from Galgall to Bocim, and sayde, I broughte you oute of Egypt and haue brought you vnto the lande whiche I sware vnto your fathers. And I sayde that I wolde neuer breake myne appoyntment wyth you,

² Thus sayth Cyrus the king of Persia: The Lord God of heauen hath geuen me al the kingdomes in the land & hath commaunded me to buylde him an house at Ierusalem in Iuda.

⁸ I wyl enforme the, and shew the the waie wherin thou shalt go I wyll fasten myne eyes vpon the.

⁷ The Aungel of the Lorde pytcheth hys tente rounde aboute hym that feare hym, & delyuereth them.

²⁴ Thou leadest me with thy counsayll, and afterwarde receyuest me vnto glory.

²⁰ O prayse the Lorde ye aungels of his, ye that be myghty in strength fulfyllynge hys commaundement that men may here the voice of hys wordes.

⁵ Put thy trust in the Lord wyth all thyne hert, and leane not vnto thyne own vnderstandinge. ⁶ In all thy wayes haue respecte vnto hym, & he shal ordre thy goinges.

⁹ In their troubles he forsoke them not, but the aungel that went forthe from his presence delyuered them. Of very loue & kindnesse that he had vnto them, redemed he them. He hath borne them, and caryed them vp euer, sence the worlde beganne.

⁴⁴ In the dayes of these kinges shall the God of heauen set vp an euerlastynge kyngdome whiche shall not peryshe, and hys kyngdome shall not be geuen ouer to another people: yea the same shal breake and destroy al these kingdomes, but it shall endure foreuer.

⁹ He answered them: I am an Ebreue, and I feare the Lorde God of heauen, whych made both the sea & drye lande.

⁵ and he gaue him none inheritaunce in it, no not the bredeth of a fote: but promised that he would geue it to hym to possesse, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no chylde.

¹⁴ Are they not al ministringe spirites, sent to minister for their sakes, whiche shal be heyres of saluation?

¹³ And the same houre was there a greate earth quake, and the tenth parte of the cytye fell, and in the earth quake were slayne names of men seuen thousande, and the remnaunte were feared, and gaue glorye to GOD of heauen.

⁴ But shalt go vnto my contre and to my kynred, and there take a wyfe vnto my sonne Isaac. ⁵ Than sayd the seruaunte vnto him: what & yf the woman wyl not agree to come wyth me vnto thys lande, shal I brynge thy sonne agayn vnto the lande which thou camest out of? ⁶ And Abraham sayde vnto him: beware of that, that thou bryng not my sonne thyther.

⁵ But & yf her father forbyd her the same daye that he heareth it, none of her vowes nor bondes whych she hath made vpon her soule shalbe of value, & the Lorde shall forgeue her, because her father forbade her.

⁸ But and yf her husbande forbade her the same day that the heard it, then hath he made her vowe whyche she had vpon her of none effecte, and that also which she pronounced wt her lyppes wherwyth she bounde her soule, and the lord shal forgeue her.

¹⁷ And the men sayde vnto her: we will be blamelesse of thy othe, which thou hast made vs sweare. ¹⁸ Beholde, when we come into the land, thou shalt bynde thys purple threden coorde in the wyndowe, which thou lettest vs doune by. And thou shalte brynge thy father, thy mother, thy brethren, and all thy fathers housholde, euen into the house to the. ¹⁹ And then whosoeuer go oute at the dores of thy house, into the strete, hys bloud shalbe vpon hys owne head, and we giltlesse. And whosoeuer shalbe wyth the in the house, hys bloude be on oure heades yf any mannes hande be vpon hym: ²⁰ And euen so yf thou vtter these oure wordes, we wylbe quyte of thy othe which thou haste made vs sweare.

²⁰ But thys we will do to them and let them liue, and so shal no wrath be vpon vs because of the othe which we sware vnto them.

³² and shal know the truth, and the truthe shall make you free.

² And he sayde: ye men, brethren, and fathers, harken to. The God of glorye appeared vnto our father Abraham whyle he was yet in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

⁴³ now therfore my sonne hear my voyce, make the redy, & fle to Laban my brother at Haran:

¹ Then Iacob lyfte vp hys fete, and wente towarde the east coutrye.

⁴ And Iacob sayed vnto them: brethren whence be ye? And they sayed: of Haran are we. ⁵ And he sayed vnto theym: knowe ye Laban the sonne of Nahor? And they sayed: we know hym.

²² which commytted to Iosephs hande all the presoners that were in the preson house. And what soeuer was done there, that dyd he. ²³ And the keper of the preson loked vnto nothynge that was vnder hys hande, because the Lorde was wyth hym, and because that what soeuer he dyd, the Lorde made it come luckely to passe.

⁸ Therfore the Lorde was angrye wyth Israel, and deliuered them into the handes of Chusan Rasathaim Kynge of Mesopotamia. So that the chyldren of Israel serued Chusan Rasathaim .viij. yeares. ⁹ And then the chyldren of Israel cryed vnto the Lorde. And the Lord stered them vp a sauer, and saued them: one Othonyel the sonne of Kenes, Calebs younger brother. ¹⁰ And the spryte of the Lorde came vpon hym. And he iudged Israell, and wente oute to warre. And the Lorde solde Chusan Rasathaim Kyng of Mesopotamia in hys hande. So that his hand was myghtye ouer Chusan Rasathaim.

⁶ And when the chyldren of Ammon sawe that they stanke in the nose of Dauid, Hanon & the chyldren of Ammon sent a thousand talentes of syluer to hyre them charettes, and horsemen out of Mesopotamia & out Siria Maacah & out of Zobah.

⁹ Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, and the inhabiters of Mesopotamia, of Iewry, and of Cappadocia, and of Ponthus and Asia,

¹³ Lo I stonde here by the well of water and the doughters of the men of thys cytie wyll come out to draw water: ¹⁴ Nowe the damsell to whome I saye, stoupe doune thy pytcher, and let me drinck. If she saye: Dryncke, and I wyll geue thy camels dryncke also, the same is she that thou hast ordened for thy seruaunte Isaac: yea and therby shall I knowe that thou hast shewed mercy on my master. ¹⁵ And it came to passe yer he had left speakynge, that Rebecca cam out, the daughter of Bethuell, sonne to Milca the wyfe of Nahor Abrahams brother, and her pytcher vpon her shoulder: ¹⁶ The damsel was very fayre to loke vpon, and yet a mayd and vnknowen of man. And she went doune to the well and fylled her pytcher and came vp agayne. ¹⁷ Then the seruaunte ranne vnto her and sayde: let me suppe a lytle water of thy pytcher. ¹⁸ And she sayd: dryncke my Lorde. And she hasted and late doune her pytcher vpon her arme & gaue him drincke. ¹⁹ And when she had geuen him drincke, she sayde: I wyll drawe water for thy camels also, vntyll they haue dronck ynough. ²⁰ And she poured out her pitcher in to the tough hastely, & runne agayn vnto the well, to fet water: and drewe for all hys camels.

¹³ And he said vnto him: my lord knoweth that I haue tender children, ewes, & kine with yong, vnder myne hand, whych if men shoulde ouerdriue but euen one day, the whole flocke wold dye. ¹⁴ Let my Lord therfore go before his seruaunte, and I wyl dryue fayre and softly, accordyng as the cattell that goth before me, & the chyldren, be able to endure: vntyll I come to my Lord vnto Seir.

¹⁶ The priest of Madian had .vij. doughters which came and drewe water and filled the troughes, for to water theyr fathers shepe.

¹¹ And as they were goyng vp into the citie, they met with damoselles that came oute to draw water, & sayde vnto them: is there here a sear.

¹⁰ A righteous man regardeth the lyfe of his cattell, but the vngodly haue cruel hertes.

⁷ and ther came a woman of Samaria to draw water. And Iesus sayed vnto hyr: geue me drinke.

¹ After these dedes, the worde of God, came vnto Abram in a vision sayinge: Feare not Abram, I am thy shyld, and thy rewarde shall be exceadynge greate.

⁷ Moreouer I wyl make my bonde betwene me & the, and thy seed after the, in their times to be an euerlastyng testament, So that I wyl be god vnto the & to thy seed after the. ⁸ And I wyl geue vnto the and to thy seed after the, the lande where in thou arte a straunger: Euen all the lande of Canaan, for an euerlastynge possession & wyl be their God.

²⁷ & sayd: blessed be the lorde God of my master Abraham whych ceasseth not to deale mercyfully & truly wyth my master, & hath brought me the waye to my masters brothers house.

⁴² And I came this day vnto the wel & said: O Lorde, the God of my master Abraham, if it be so that thou makest my iorney which I go, prosperous:

⁴⁸ And I bowed my selfe. & worshypped the Lorde, & blessed the Lorde God of my master Abraham which had brought me the ryght waye, to take my masters brothers doughter vnto hys sonne.

¹⁰ And thou shalt brynge it to thy father, & he shall eate, that he may blesse the before hys death.

²⁰ But Isaac sayd vnto his sonne: how commeth it that thou hast found it so quickely my sonne? He answered. The Lord thi God brought it to my hande.

¹³ yea, & the Lord stod vpon it, and sayed. I am the Lorde God of Abraham thy father, & the God of Isaac. The land whiche thou sleapest vpon wyl I gyue the & thy sede.

⁴² And excepte the God of my father, the God of Abraham, & the God whome Isaac feareth, had bene wyth me: surely thou haddest sent me away now al empty. But God beheld my tribulation, and the labour of my handes: and rebuked the yesterdaye.

⁹ And Iacob said: O god of mi father Abraham, & God of my father Isaac: Lord whiche saydest vnto me, returne vnto thy countrye & to thy kynred, & I wyll do all well with the.

¹⁴ And God almightye geue you mercy in the syghte of the man and send you youre other brother and also BenIamin, and I wylbe as a man robbed of his chyldren.

⁶ And he sayed: I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob. And Moses hyd hys face for he was afrayed to loke vpon God.

¹⁵ And God spake further vnto Moyses: thus shalt thou say vnto the children of Israel: the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, & the God of Iacob hath sent me vnto you: this is my name for euer, and thys is my memorial thorowout al generations.

³⁶ And when offeringe time was come, Eliah the prophete went to and sayde: Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and of Israel, let it be knowen thys daye, that thou art the God in Israel, and that I am thy seruaunt, and that I do al these thinges at thy commaundement.

¹⁴ and toke the mantel of Eliah, that fel from him, and smote the water and sayde: where is the Lorde God of Eliah, where is he? And when he had smyten the water, it deuyded parte this waye and parte that waye. And Elizeus went ouer.

¹¹ O Lorde, let thyne eares herken to the prayer of thy seruaunte, & the prayer of thy seruauntes, whose desyre is to feare thy name, and let thy seruaunte prospere thys daye, and graunte hym mercye in the syght of thys man: for I was the kynges buttelar.

⁴ Then sayde the kyng vnto me: what is then thy request? then made I my prayer to the God of heauen,

⁵ Committe thy waye vnto the Lorde, sette thy hope in hym, and he shall brynge it too passe.

¹⁶ Shewe thy seruauntes thy worke, & their chyldren thy glory. ¹⁷ And the glorious maiesty of the Lord our God be vpon vs: O prospere thou the worke of our handes vpon vs, O prospere thou our handy worke.

²⁵ Helpe now O lord O, lord sende vs now prosperity.

⁶ O praye for the peace of Ierusalem, they shall prospere that loue the.

¹ The song of the steares. Except the Lord buylde the house, their laboure is but loste that buylde it. Except the Lord kepe the cytye, the watchman waketh but in vayne.

⁶ In all thy wayes haue respecte vnto hym, & he shal ordre thy goinges.

³² I am Abrahams God, and Isaacks God. & the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the liuynge.

⁶ Be not carefull: but in all thinges shewe your petition vnto God in prayer and supplication, wyth geuinge of thankes.

¹⁰ whyl we nighte and daye praye excedinglye that we mighte se you presently, and might fulfill that which is lackynge in youre fayth. ¹¹ God him selfe our father, and our Lord Iesus Christ guide oure iorney to you:

¹¹ And made his camels to lye doune wythout the cytie by a wels syde of water, at euen: about the tyme that women come out to drawe water,

⁴³ beholde I stand by thys wel of water, and when a virgin commeth forth to drawe water, & I say to hyr: geue me a lyttle water of thy pytcher to dryncke,

⁹ While he yet talked with them, Rahel came wyth hyr fathers shepe, for she kepte them. ¹⁰ As sone as Iacob sawe Rahell, the doughter of Laban hys mothers brother, & the shepe of Laban hys mothers brother, he went & rolled the stone from the wels mouth, & watered the shepe of Laban his mothers brother.

¹¹ How the archers dyd crye, where men draw water, there shall they tell of the iustice of the Lorde, and of the iustyce of his vplandyshe folcke in Israel. And then the people of the Lorde went doune vnto the gates.

⁸ And he sayed: Lord God, wherby shall I knowe that I shall possesse it?

⁴⁴ and she say agayne to me: dryncke thou, and I wyll also draw water for thy camels: that same is the wyfe whom the Lord hath prepared for my maisters sonne.

¹ Moyses answered and said: Se, they wil not beleue me, nor herken vnto my voice: but wil say the Lord hath not appeared to the. ² Then the Lord sayed vnto hym: what is that in thyne hand? and he said a rodde. ³ And he sayd cast it on the grounde, and it turned into a serpente. And he thrust hys hand into hys bosome and toke it out. And behold, his hand was leperous euen as snowe. ⁷ And he sayed: put thyne hand into thy bosome agayne. And he put his hande into hys bosome agayne, and plucked it oute his bosome, & behold, it was turned agayne as his other flesh. ⁸ If they wyl not beleue the neither hear the voyce of the firste token: yet wyll they beleue the voyce of the second token. ⁹ But and if they wyll not beleue the two sygnes, neyther herken vnto thy voyce, then take of the water of the riuer and poure it vpon the dry land. And the water which thou takest out of the ryuer shall turne to bloude vpon the drye land.

¹⁷ And he answered him, yf I haue found grace in thy syght, then shew me a sygne, that thou art the Lorde that talketh with me.

³⁷ Beholde I wyll put a flece of wolle in the threasshing place. And yf the dewe be on the flece onelye, and drye vpon al the earth beside then I shalbe sure that thou wilt saue Israell by my hande, as thou saydest.

¹³ And when Gedeon was come: Behold, there was a man that tolde a dreame vnto hys felowe & sayde: Beholde I dreamed a dreame, and me thoughte that a broyled looffe of barley bread tombled into the hoste of Madian, and came vnto a tente & smote it that it fell, and ouerturned it, that the tente laye a longe. ¹⁴ And his felowe aunswered, & sayde, thys is nothynge elles saue the swerde of Gedeon the sonne of Ioas a man of Israel, into whose hande the Lord hath delyuered Madian & all the hoste. ¹⁵ When Gedeon hearde the tellynge of the dreame & the interpretacyon of the same, he bowed hym selfe to the earth & returned vnto the hoste of Israel, and sayde: vp for the Lord hath delyuered into youre handes the hoste of the Madianites.

⁵ And they sayd vnto him: Aske of God I praye the, that we maye know, whether the way which we go, shalbe prosperous or no.

⁷ Now therfore make a newe carte and take two mealche kyne, on whose neck neuer came yocke. And tye the kyne in the carte, & brynge the calues whome from them. ⁸ Then take the arcke of the Lorde, & put it in the carte, & putte the Iuelles of Golde (whiche ye reward him with for a trespace offeryng) in a sorcer by the syde thereof, and sende it away & let it go. ⁹ And marke yf he go vp by the way that leadeth vnto his owne coaste, to Bethsames, then it is he that dyd vs thys great euyl. But & yf he do not, then it is not hys hande that smote vs, but it was a chaunce that hapened vs.

² And now when thou art departed from me, thou shalte mete two men by Rahels sepulchre in the borders of Beniamin euen at Zalezah. And they wyl say vnto the: the asses which thou wenteste to seke, are founde se, thy father hath lefte the care of the asses, and soroweth for you saying what shal I do for my sonne? ³ Then thou shalt go forth from thence, & shalt come to the ocke of Thabor. And there shalt thou mete thre men goynge to God to Bethel: one cariyng thre kyddes: and another caryenge thre loues of bread: and the thyrd caryeng a botell of wine. ⁴ And they wyll salute the and geue the two loues of bread: which thou shalt receyue of theyr handes. ⁵ After that thou shalt come to the hyll of God, where the Philistines kepe theyr watche. And when thou art come thyther to that cytye, thou shalt mete a companye of Prophetes comyng doune from the hyll, with a psalter, a tymbrell, a pype, and an harp before them & they prophesying. ⁶ And the spyryte of the Lord wyll come vpon the, and thou shalt prophesye with them, and shalt be turned into another man. ⁷ And when these sygnes are chaunced the, then do what thou hast to do, for God is wyth the. ⁸ And thou shalt also go before me to Galgall. And beholde I wyl come vnto the, to sacrifye burnt sacrifice & peace offerynges. Tary for me seuen dayes, tyll I come to the, & shew the what thou shalt do. ⁹ And assone as he had turned his shoulder to go from Samuel, god gaue hym another maner of herte, and all those tokens came to passe that same day. ¹⁰ When thei came to the hyll, beholde, the company of prophetes met him, & the sprite of God came vpon him, & he prophesyed among them.

⁸ Then sayde Ionathas: behold, when we go ouer vnto the men, & shewe oure selues vnto them: ⁹ yf they say on thys wyse to vs: tarye vntyl we come to you, then we wyl stand styl where we be & not go vp vnto them. ¹⁰ But & yf they so saye vnto vs: come vp vnto vs, then we wyl go vp, for the Lorde hath deliuered them into oure handes. And thys shalbe a sygne vnto vs.

⁷ And yf thy father saye thus: it is well done, then thy seruaunt shall haue peace. But and yf he be angrye: then be sure that wickednesse is vtterly concluded of him.

²⁴ And when thou hearest the noyse of a thyng goyng in the toppes of the Peretrees, then moue. For then the Lord is gone out before the, to smyte the host of the Philistines.

⁹ And Ioab sayde to Amasa: are all thynges in rest and peace my brother? And Ioab toke Amasa by the chynne wyth the ryghthande, as thoughe he woulde haue kyssed hym.

⁸ Then sayde Hezekiah to Isaiah: what is the signe, that the Lorde will heale my, & that I shall go vp into the house of the Lorde the thyrd daye? ⁹ And Isaiah saide: this sygne shalt thou haue of the Lorde, that the Lorde wil do that he hath spoken: shal the shadowe go forwarde ten degrees, or go backe agayne ten degrees? ¹⁰ And Hezekiah saide: it is a lyght thynge for the shadowe to go doune ten degrees. ¹⁴ House & ryches maye a man haue by the heritage of hys elders, but a discrete woman is the gifte of the Lord.

¹¹ requyre a token of the Lorde thy God, whether it be towarde the depthe benethe or towarde the heyght aboue.

¹⁰ besechinge that at one tyme or other, a prosperous iorneye (by the wyll of God) myghte fortune me, to come vnto you.

²⁷ And these are the generations of Terah. Terah begatte Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran begat Lot.

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor toke them wyues. Abrams wyfe was called Sarai. And Nahors wyfe Mylca, the doughter of Haran whyche was father of Milca, & of Iesca.

¹⁴ And Abraham rose vp early in the mornyng and toke brede & a bottel with water, & gaue it vnto Hagar, puttynge it on her shoulders wyth the lad also, and sent her awaye. And she departed and wandred vp and doune in the wyldernes of Berseba.

²⁴ And she sayd vnto him: I am the doughter of Bathuel the sonne of Milcha whyche she bare vnto Nahor:

⁴⁵ And before I had made an ende of speakinge in myne herte: beholde Rebecca came forth, & hir pitcher on hir shoulder, & she went downe vnto the wel & drew. And I sayd vnto hir: giue me drincke.

⁹ While he yet talked with them, Rahel came wyth hyr fathers shepe, for she kepte them.

³⁶ And Gedeon sayd vnto God: yf thou wilt saue Israel by my hande as thou haste sayde: ³⁷ Beholde I wyll put a flece of wolle in the threasshing place. And yf the dewe be on the flece onelye, and drye vpon al the earth beside then I shalbe sure that thou wilt saue Israell by my hande, as thou saydest. ³⁸ And it came so to passe. And he rose vp erlye on the morowe, and he thruste the flece together and wronge the dew thereout, and filled a boole of water. ³⁹ And Gedeon sayde vnto God: be not angrye with me that I speake once more, let me proue onelye once agayne with the flece. Let it be drye onelye vpon the flece, and dewe vpon al the ground about. ⁴⁰ And God dyd so that same nyght: so that it was drye vpon the flece only and on all the grounde aboute, dewe.

² And Ruth the Moabitesse sayd vnto Noemi, let me go to the felde and lease and gather eares, after whomsoeuer I fynde grace in his syghte. And she sayde vnto her: go my doughter.

¹⁷ And so she gathered vntill euen & then thresshed that she had gathered, & it was vpon an Epha of barleye.

¹⁵ For the eyes of the Lorde are ouer the righteous, and his eares are open vnto theyr prayers.

² Thou hearest the praier, therfore commeth all fleshe vnto the.

¹⁸ The Lord is nye vnto them that call vpon him, yea, al such as call vpon hym faithfully. ¹⁹ He fulfilleth the desire of them that feare him, he heareth their crie, and helpeth them.

²⁷ Zade. She loketh well to the wayes of her housholde, & eateth not her bread with ydelnes.

⁹ Then yf thou callest, the Lorde shall answere the: yf thou cryest, he shall saye: here I am. Yea, yf thou layest awaie thy burthens, and holdest thy fingers, and ceasest from blasphemous talkinge,

²⁴ And it shalbe, that or euer they call, I shall answere them. While they are yet but thinckinge howe to speake. I shal heare them.

²⁰ As I was yet speakinge at my prayers, knoweledginge myne owne sinnes, and the synnes of my people, makinge so mine intercession before the Lorde my God, for the holye hils sake of my God: ²¹ yea, whyle I was yet speakinge in my prayer, beholde the man Gabrel (whome I had sene afore in the vision) came flying to me, and touched me about the offeringe time in the eueninge. ²² He infourmed me, and spake vnto me: O Daniel sayde he, I am now come to make the vnderstande it: ²³ For as sone as thou begannest to make thy prayer, it was so diuised, and therfore am I come to shewe the. And why? For thou arte a man greatly beloued. Wherfore, pondre the matter well, that thou mayest learne, to vnderstande the vision.

¹ And Adam laye wt Heua his wyfe, whiche conceyued & bare Cayn, & sayde: I haue goten a man of the Lord.

⁷ And the men of the place asked him of his wife, & he said that she was hys sister: for he feared to call hyr his wyfe, lest the men of the place shold haue killed him for hir sake, bicause she was beutiful to the eye.

⁶ And therfore he left all that he had in Iosephs hande, & loked vpon nothing that was with him, saue only on the bread which he ate. And Ioseph was a goodly persone and a wel fauored.

¹⁷ Now therfore slee al the men chyldren and the wemen that haue lien with men fleshlye: ¹⁸ But all the wemen chyldren that haue not lyen with men, kepe a lyue for your selues.

² As I was a slepe, & my hert wakynge, I hearde the voyce of my beloued, when he knocked. Open to me (sayde he) O my sister, my loue, my doue, my derlynge: for my heade is full of dewe, and the lockes of my heere are full of the night droppes.

¹ And there fel a derth in the land passyng the fyrst derth that fell in the dayes of Abraham. Wherfore Isaac wente vnto Abimelech kynge of the Phylystyans vnto Gerar. ² Then the Lord appeared vnto hym and sayed: Go not downe into Egypte but hyde in the lande whych I say vnto the: ³ soiourne in thys lande, and I wyll be wyth the, and wyll blesse the: for vnto the, and vnto thy seed, I wil giue al these contryes. And I wyl perfourme the oth which I sware vnto Abraham thy father, ⁴ & wyl multiply thy sede as the stars of heauen, & will gyue vnto thy sede al these contries. And thorow thi sede shal all the nacions of the earth be blessed, ⁵ because that Abraham herkened vnto my voyce, & kepe myne ordinaunces, commaundementes, statutes and lawes. ⁶ And Isaac dwelled in Gerar. ⁷ And the men of the place asked him of his wife, & he said that she was hys sister: for he feared to call hyr his wyfe, lest the men of the place shold haue killed him for hir sake, bicause she was beutiful to the eye. ⁸ And it happened after he had bene there long tyme, that Abimelech kynge of the Philistians loked out at a wyndow, & sawe Isaac sportyng wt Rebecca hys wife. ⁹ And Abimelech sente for Isaac, & sayed: see, she is of a suretye thy wyfe, & why saydest thou that she was thy sister? And Isaac said vnto hym: I thought that I myght peraduenture haue dyed for her sake. ¹⁰ Then sayd Abimelech: why haste thou done this vnto vs? one of the people myghte lyghtlye haue lyne by thy wife, and so shuldest thou haue brought synne vpon vs. ¹¹ Than Abimelech charged all his people, saying: he that toucheth this man or his wyfe, shall suerlie dye for it. ¹² And Isaac sowed in that lande, & found in that same yere an .C. bushels: for the Lorde blessed hym, ¹³ & the man waxed myghty, and went forth and grewe tyll he was exceading greate, ¹⁴ that he had possession of shepe, of oxen, and a mighty housholde: so that the Philistians had enuye at hym: ¹⁵ in so muche that they stopped and filled vp wyth earth al the welles whyche hys fathers seruantes digged in hys father Abrahams tyme. ¹⁶ Then sayed Abimelech vnto Isaac: gett the from me, for thou art myghtier then we a great deale. ¹⁷ Then Isaac departed thence, & pitched his tente in the valey Gerar, & dwelt there. ¹⁸ And Isaac digged againe the welles of water which they digged in the dayes of Abraham his father, which the Philistians had stopped after the death of Abraham, & gaue them the same nams which his father gaue them. ¹⁹ As Isaacs seruauntes digged in the valay, they found a wel of liuing water, ²⁰ And the herdmen of Gerar did stryue with Isaacs herdmen, saying: the water is ours. Then called he the well Eseck, bicause they stroue with him. ²¹ Then digged they an other well, & they stroue for that also. Therfore called he it Sitena. ²² And then he departed thence, & digged another wel for that which they stroue not: therfore called he it Rehoboth, saying: the Lorde hath now made vs rowme, & we ar encreased vpon the earth. ²³ Afterwarde departed he thence and came to Bersaba. ²⁴ And the Lorde appeared vnto hym the same nyght, & sayd: I am the God of Abraham thy father, feare not for I am wyth the, and wyll blesse the, and multiply thy sede for my seruaunt Abrahams sake. ²⁵ And then he builded an aultare there, and called vpon the name of the Lord, and there pitched hys tent. And ther Isaacs seruauntes digged a well. ²⁶ Then came Abimelech to hym from Gerar & Ahusath his frende and Phitol hys chyefe captayne. ²⁷ And Isaac sayd vnto them: wherfore come ye to me, seyng ye hate me & haue put me away from you? ²⁸ Then sayed they: we sawe that the Lorde was wyth the, & therfore we sayed that there should be an oothe betwexte vs & the, & that we woulde make a bond wyth the, ²⁹ that thou shouldest do vs no hurt, as we haue not touched the, and haue done vnto the nothynge but good, & sent the away in peace: for thou art nowe the blessed of the Lorde. ³⁰ And he made them a feast, and they ate & dronke. ³¹ And they rose vp by tymes in the morninge, and sware one to an other, And Isaac sent them away. And they departed from hym in peace. ³² And that same daye came Isaacs seruauntes, & told hym of a well whych they had dygged: and said vnto him, that they had found water. ³³ And he called it Seba, wherfore the name of the cyty is called Berseba vnto thys daye.

¹⁰ And he arose and went to Sarephtha. And when he came to the gate of the cytie, there was a wydowe there gatheringe stickes. And he called to her and sayd: fet me I pray the, a litle water in a dyshe that I may drincke.

¹⁴ Mete the thursty wt water (O ye cytesins of Hema) mete those wt bread that are fled.

²⁵ Goodly ryuers shall flowe out of all hys mountaynes and hylles. In the daye of the greate slaughter when the towers shall fall,

⁶ Then shall the lame man leape as an herte, and the domme mans tunge shal geue thanckes. In the wyldernesse also there shall welles spryge, and floudes of water in the deserte. ⁷ The drye grounde shall turne to ryuers, and the thurstye to springes of water. Where as drrgons dwelt afore, there shall growe swete floures and grene russhes.

¹⁷ When the thyrstye & poore seke water and fynde none, and when their tonge is drye of thyrst: I geue it them sayth the Lorde. I the God of Israel forsake them not. ¹⁸ I bringe forth floudes in the hylle, and welles in the playne feldes. I turne the wildernes to riuers, & the drye lande to condythes of water.

¹⁰ There shall neyther hunger nor thurste, heate nor sunne hurte them. For he that fauoureth them, shall leade them, and geue them drincke of the sprynge welles.

⁹ Then sayde the woman of Samarya vnto hym: howe is it, that thou beynge a Iewe, axest drynke of me which am a Samaritan? for the Iewes medle not with the Samaritans.

¹⁴ Nowe the damsell to whome I saye, stoupe doune thy pytcher, and let me drinck. If she saye: Dryncke, and I wyll geue thy camels dryncke also, the same is she that thou hast ordened for thy seruaunte Isaac: yea and therby shall I knowe that thou hast shewed mercy on my master.

²⁶ Phe. She openeth her mouth with wysdome, and in her tonge is the lawe of grace.

⁸ In conclusyon be ye all of one mynd, one suffer wyth another, loue as brethren, be petifull, be curteous,

⁸ But aboue all thinges haue feruente loue among you. For loue couereth the multitude of synnes. ⁹ Be ye herberous one to another, & that without grudginge.

⁴⁵ And before I had made an ende of speakinge in myne herte: beholde Rebecca came forth, & hir pitcher on hir shoulder, & she went downe vnto the wel & drew. And I sayd vnto hir: giue me drincke. ⁴⁶ And she made hast, & toke downe hir pytcher from of hyr & sayed: drincke, & I wyll giue thy camels drinke also.

⁹ Be ye herberous one to another, & that without grudginge.

¹² and he sayde. Lord God of my master Abraham, sende me good spede thys daye, and shewe mercye vnto my master Abraham.

⁵⁶ And he sayed vnto them: hinder me not for the Lord hath prospered my iorney. Sende me awaye that I may go vnto my master.

¹⁸ Then went kynge Dauid & set hym doune before the Lorde, and sayde: What am I Lorde Iehouah, and what is my kynne, that thou shuldest haue broughte me this farre forth? ¹⁹ And is thys a small thyng in thy syght Lorde Iehouah, but that thou shuldest speake also of the seruauntes house for a greate while to come? is this a lawe amonge men Lorde Iehouah? ²⁰ And what can Dauid saye more vnto the, seyng thou knowest thy seruaunt Lorde Iehouah?

¹ Of Dauid, when he fayned hym self too be madde before Abimelech: whyche droue hym awaye, and he departed. I wyll alwaye geue thanckes vnto the LORD, hys prayse shall euer be in my mouth. ² My soule shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall heare therof, & be glad. ³ O prayse the Lord wyth me, and let vs magnyfye hys name together. ⁴ I sought the Lorde, and he herde me, yea he delyuered me out of all my feare. ⁵ They that haue an eye vnto hym, shalbe lightened, & ther faces shal not be ashamed. ⁶ This poore man cryed vnto the Lorde, & he hearde hym, yea, and delyuered hym oute of all hys troubles.

¹ O geue thankes vnto the Lord, for he is gracious, & his mercy endureth for euer.

⁸ O that men wolde praise the goodnesse of the Lorde, and the wonders that he doth for the chyldren of men.

¹⁵ O that men wolde prayse the goodnesse of the Lord, and the wonders that he doth for the chyldren of men.

⁴³ Who so is wyse, & pondreth these thynges well, shal vnderstande the louyng kyndnesses of the Lorde.

¹ I am wel pleased, that the Lord hath hearde the voyce of my prayer. ² That he hath enclyned his eare vnto me, therfore wil I cal vpon him as long as I lyue. ³ The snares of death compased me round aboute, the paynes of hell gat hold vpon me I founde trouble and heauynesse. ⁴ Then called I vpon the name of the Lord O Lorde: delyuer my soule. ⁵ Gracious is the Lord, and rightuous, yea oure God is mercyfull. ⁶ The Lorde preserueth the symple, I was brought downe, and he helped me. ⁷ Turne agayne then vnto thy rest, O my soule, for the Lord hath geuen the thy desire.

¹⁹ But Mary kept all those sayinges, and pondered them in her herte.

⁵¹ And he went with them, and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them: But his mother kepte al these sayinges in her herte.

¹⁵ My Lorde, harken vnto me. The lande is worth .iiij. hundred sycles of syluer: but what is that betwyxte the and me? bury thy deed. ¹⁶ And Abraham harkened vnto Ephron & weyde him the syluer which he had sayde in the audience of the sonnes of Heth. Euen .iiij. hundred siluer sycles of currant money among marchauntes.

³⁰ for as sonne as he had sene the earinges and the bracelettes vpon hys systers handes, and hearde the wordes of Rebecca hys syster sayinge thus sayde the man vnto me, then he wente out vnto the man. And loo, he stode yet wyth the camels by the wel syde.

⁴⁷ And I dranke, & she gaue the camels drynke also. And I asked hyr saying: whose daughter art thou? And she answered: the doughter of Bathuel Nahors sonne, whom Milca bare vnto him. And I put the earing vpon hir face & the bracelets vpon hir handes.

² And Aaron sayd vnto them: plucke of the golden earynges whyche are in the eares of youre wyues, youre sonnes and of youre daughters: and brynge them vnto me. ³ And all the people plucked of the golden earinges that were in their eares, and broughte them vnto Aaron.

¹ And on the thyrde daye put Esther on her royall apparell, & stode in the courte of the kynges palace within ouer agaynst the kynges house. And the kinge sat vpon his royal seate in the kynges palace ouer agaynst the gate of the house.

¹⁹ and colares, bracelettes & hooues, ²⁰ the goodly floured wide & broderd rayment, brusshes & headebandes, ²¹ rynges and garlandes, ²² holye daye clothes & vales, kerchues & pynnes, ²³ glasses & smockes, bonettes and taches.

³² Doth a mayden forget her rayment, or a bryde her stomacher? And doth my people forget me so long?

¹¹ I decked the wyth costly apparell, I put rynges vpon thy fyngers: a chayne aboute thy necke, ¹² spanges vpon thy fore head, eare rynges vpon thyne eares, and set a beutyfull croune vpon thyne heade.

⁹ Lykewyse also the women that they araye them selues in comlye apparell wyth shamefastnes and discrete behauyoure not wyth broyded heare other golde, or pearles, or costlye araye: ¹⁰ but wyth suche as becommeth women that professe the worshyppyng of God thorowe good workes.

³ Whose apparell shall not be outewarde wyth broyeded heare, and hangynge on of golde, other in puttynge on of gorgyous apparell:

²⁰ And it chaunsed after these thynges, that one tolde Abraham sayng: Behold, Milcha she hath also borne chyldren vnto thy brother Nachor:

²³ And Bethuel begat Rebecca. These .viij. dyd Milcha bere to Nachor Abrahams brother.

¹⁵ And it came to passe yer he had left speakynge, that Rebecca cam out, the daughter of Bethuell, sonne to Milca the wyfe of Nahor Abrahams brother, and her pytcher vpon her shoulder:

⁴ Let a lytle water be fet, and wash youre fete, and rest youre selues vnder the tree: ⁵ And I wyll fet a morsell of breed, to comforte youre hartes withal. And than go your wayes, for euen therfore are ye come to youre seruaunt. And they answered: Do euen so as thou hast said. ⁶ And Abraham went a pace in to hys tent vnto Sara and sayd: make redy attonce thre peckes of fyne meale, kneade it and make cakes. ⁷ And Abraham ran vnto his beastes & fet a calfe that was tendre and good, & gaue it vnto a yonge man which made it redy attonce. ⁸ And he toke butter and mylcke and the calf whyche he had prepared, and set it before them, and stode hym selfe by them vnder the tree: and they ate.

¹⁹ & yet I haue strawe and prauender for our Asses, and bread and wyne for me and thy handmaide, and thy lad that are with thy seruaunt, and lacke nothing. ²⁰ The olde man sayde: peace be wyth the, al that thou lackeste shalt thou fynde wyth me: onlye abyde not in the streates all nyght, ²¹ and he brought hym into hys house, and gaue foder vnto hys Asses. And they wasshed their fete, and dyd eate and dryncke.

⁸ But the lyberall person ymagyneth honest thynges, and commeth vp with honestye.

⁵ and sayd vnto hys yong men: byde here with the asse. I and the lad wyll goo yonder and worshyppe and come agayne vnto you.

⁵² And when Abrahams seruaunt hearde theyr wordes, he bowed him selfe vnto the Lorde, flatte vpon the earth.

³¹ & the people beleued. And when they hearde that the Lord had visited the children of Israell and had loked vpon their tribulation they bowed them selues and worshypped.

²⁷ Ye shal say: it is the sacrifice of the Lordes passeouer, which passed ouer the houses of the chyldren of Israel in Egypte, as he smote the Egypcyans & saued oure houses. Than the people bowed them selues & worshypped.

⁸ And Moses bowed himselfe to the earth quickly & worshipped

²⁰ And Dauid sayde to all the congregacion: blesse the Lorde youre God. And all the congregacyon blessed the Lorde God of theyr fathers, & stouped & bowed them selues vnto the Lorde, & to the Kynge.

¹⁸ And Iehosaphat bowed hym self with his face to the citie, & al Iuda and the enhabiters of Ierusalem fell before the Lorde, to bowe them selues vnto the Lorde.

³⁰ And Hezekiah the kynge and the lordes bade the Leuites to prayse the lorde with the wordes of Dauid & of Asaph the sear of vysions. And the Leuites praysed that they reioysed agayne, and the other stowped and bowed them selues.

⁶ And Esdras praysed the Lorde the greate God. And all the people answered Amen, Amen, with theyr handes vp, & bowed them selues, & worshipped the Lorde with theyr faces to the grounde.

²⁹ All such as be fat vpon earth, shall eate also and worshippe. All they that lye in the dust, and lyue so hardly, shall fall doune before hym.

⁴ O that all the worlde woulde worshippe the, synge of the, and prayse thy name. Selah

⁹ They that dwell in the wyldernes shall knele before him, & his enemyes shal licke the dust.

⁶ O come, let vs worshippe & bowe doune our selfes: Let vs knele before the Lord our maker.

⁶ What acceptable thynge shall I offre vnto the Lord? shall I bowe my knee to the hye God? Shall I come before hym wyth brentoffrynges, and wyth calues of a yeare olde?

¹⁰ that in the name of Iesus should euerye knee bowe, both of thinges in heauen and thinges in earth, and thinges vnder the earth,

²⁶ And he sayed: Blessed be the Lorde God of Sem, & Canaan be his seruant.

⁸ Then sayd Abram vnto Lot: Let there be no strife (I pray the) betwene the and me, and betwene my herdmen and thine, for we be brethren.

²⁰ And blessed be God the most highest, which hath deliuered thyne enemies into thy handes. And Abram gaue hym tythes of all.

⁴ But shalt go vnto my contre and to my kynred, and there take a wyfe vnto my sonne Isaac.

²¹ And the felowe wondred at her. But helde hys peace, to wete whether the Lorde had made hys iourney prosperous or not.

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the leaste of all the mercies & trueth whyche thou hast shewed vnto thy seruaunt. For wyth my stafe came I ouer thys Iordane, & now haue I goten two droues.

¹¹ And it happened in those daies when Moses was waxte great, that he went out vnto hys brethren and loked on theyr burdens, & spyed an Egiptian smytynge one of his brethren an Ebrue.

¹³ And he went oute an other daye: & behold, two Hebrues strowe togyther. And he sayd vnto hym that did the wrong: wherfore smytest thou thyne neyghbour?

¹⁰ And Iethro saied: blessed be the Lord whyche hath deliuered you oute of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharao, whych hath deliuered hys people from vnder the power of the Egiptians

¹⁴ And the wemen saide vnto Noemi: blessed be the Lorde, the which hath not lefte the wythout an heyre this day that shal haue a name in Israel,

³² Then sayde Dauid to Abigail: blessed be the Lorde God of Israel which sent the this daie to mete me.

³⁹ And when Dauid heard that Nabal was dead, he sayde: Blessed be the Lorde that hath iudged the cause of my rebuke of the hande of Nabal, and hath kept his seruaunt from euil, and hath turned the wickednesse of Nabal again vpon his own head. And Dauid sent to comen with Abigail, to thyntent to take her to his wyfe.

²⁸ And Ahimaaz called and sayde to the kynge: good tydynges, and bowed hym selfe to the earthe vpon hys face before the kynge and sayde: blessed be the Lord thy god whyche hath shut vp all the men that lyft vp theyr handes agaynst my Lorde the Kynge.

¹⁰ And Dauid blessed the Lorde before all the congregacyon and sayde: Blessed arte thou Lorde God of Israel oure father, from euer and for euer. ¹¹ Thyne (O Lorde) is greatenesse, power glorye, vyctorye and prayse: for all that is in heauen and in earthe is thyne, and thyne is the kyngedome (O Lorde) and thou arte lyfte vp an head aboue all. ¹² And rychesse and honoure come of the, and thou raygnest ouer all, and in thyne hande is power and strengthe, and in thyne hande it is to make greate, and to geue strengthe vnto all. ¹³ And nowe oure God, we thanke the, and prayse thy gloryous name.

¹⁹ Praysed be the Lord dayly, euen the God whiche helpeth vs, & poureth hys benefites vpon vs. Selah.

¹⁸ Blessed be the Lorde God, euen the God of Israell, whiche onely doeth wonderous thinges. ¹⁹ And blessed be the name of his maiesty for euer, and al landes be fulfilled with his glory. Amen, Amen.

³ He hath remembred his mercy and trueth towarde the house of Israel: so that all the endes of the worlde, se the sauing health of our God.

⁵ For the Lorde is gracyous, hys mercie is euerlastynge, and hys trueth endureth from generatyon to generacyon.

¹¹ I wyll shewe the, the waye of wysdome, and leade the in the ryght pathes, ¹² So that if thou goost therin, ther shall not straytenesse hynder the and when thou runnest thou shalte not fall, ¹³ Take fast holde of doctryne, let her not go: kepe her, for she is thy lyfe.

²⁰ I walke in the waye of righteousnes, and in the strete of iudgement.

²⁰ Thou shalt kepe thy truste wyth Iacob, and thy mercye for Abraham, lyke as thou haste sworne vnto oure fathers longe agoo.

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lorde God of Israel, for he hath visyted and redemed his people.

¹⁷ For the lawe was geuen by Moyses, but grace and truthe came by Iesus Christ.

¹⁷ So then vnto God, kyng euerlastyng, immortall, inuysyble, and wyse onely, be honoure & prayse for euer and euer. Amen.

⁵⁵ But hir brother and hir mother sayed: let the damsel abyde with vs a whyle, & it be but euen ten dayes, and then go the wayes.

⁶⁷ Then Isaac broughte hir into hys mother Saras tente, and toke Rebecca, and she became hys wyfe. & he loued hir: & so was Isaac comforted ouer hys mother.

³³ Then went Laban into Iacobs tente, & into Leas tente, & into .ii. maddens tentes: but founde them not. Then went he out of Leas tent, & entred into Rahels tente.

⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebecca, & sayd vnto hyr: Thou art oure syster growe into thousande thousandes, and thy seed possesse the gates of theyr enemies.

⁵ And he sayed vnto theym: knowe ye Laban the sonne of Nahor? And they sayed: we know hym.

¹³ When Laban heard tell of Iacab hys sisters sonne, he ran to mete hym, & embraced him & kissed him, & brought him to his house And then Iacob tolde Laban all the matter.

²⁹ that thou shouldest do vs no hurt, as we haue not touched the, and haue done vnto the nothynge but good, & sent the away in peace: for thou art nowe the blessed of the Lorde.

² which sayde vnto his mother, the eleuen hundred syluerlinges that were taken from the, about which thou cursedst and saidest in myne eares: Beholde the syluer is wyth me for I toke it awaye. Then sayd his mother: blessed be thou my sonne, in the Lord.

¹⁰ And then he sayde: blessed be thou in the Lorde my doughter, for thou haste shewed more goodnesse in the later end, then at the beginning, in as much as thou folowedeste not young men, whether they were poore or riche.

⁸ Liberalite is a precyous stone vnto hym that hath it, for whersoeuer he becometh, he prospereth.

¹⁶ Liberalitye bryngeth a man to honoure and worship, and setteth him among great men.

⁴ Let a lytle water be fet, and wash youre fete, and rest youre selues vnder the tree:

² And he sayde: Se Lordes, turne in I praye you in to youre seruauntes house and tary all nyghte and wash youre fete and ryse vp earlye and go on your wayes. And they sayde: nay, but we wyll byde in the streates all nyghte.

²⁴ & led them into Iosephes house, and gaue them water to washe their fete, and gaue their asses prouender:

²¹ and he brought hym into hys house, and gaue foder vnto hys Asses. And they wasshed their fete, and dyd eate and dryncke.

⁴¹ And she arose and bowed her selfe on her face to the earth and sayd: Beholde thy handmaid to be a seruaunt

⁴⁴ And he turned to the woman, and sayde vnto Symon: Seist thou this woman? I entred into thy house, and thou gauest me no water to my fete, but she hath washed my fete with teares and wyped them wyth the heyres of her head.

⁴ he rose from supper, and layde asyde hys vpper garmentes, & toke a towell, and gyrde hym selfe. ⁵ After that poured he water into a bason, & began to wash hys discyples fete, and to wype them wyth a towell, wherewith he was gyrde. ⁶ Then came he to Symon Peter. And Peter sayde vnto hym: Lorde shalt thou washe my fete? ⁷ Iesus aunswered, and sayed vnto him: what I do, thou wotest not nowe, but thou shalt knowe hereafter. ⁸ Peter sayed vnto him: thou shalt not washe my fete whyle the worlde standeth. Iesus aunswered hym: yf I washe the not, thou shalte haue no parte with me. ⁹ Simon Peter sayed vnto him: Lord not my fete onelye: but also my handes and my heade. ¹⁰ Iesus sayed vnto hym: he that is washed, neadeth not saue to washe hys fete, and is cleane euery whyt. And ye are cleane: but not al. ¹¹ For he knewe hys betrayer. Therfore sayed he: ye are not all cleane. ¹² After he had washed theyr fete, and receyued hys clothes, and was set doune agayne, he sayed vnto them. Wote ye what I haue done to you? ¹³ Ye call me mayster and Lorde, & ye saye well, for so am I. ¹⁴ Yf I then your lord and mayster haue washed your fete, ye also ought to wash one anothers fete.

¹⁰ and well reported of in good workes: yf she haue nouryshed chyldren, yf she haue bene lyberall to straungers, yf she haue washed the saynctes fete, yf she haue mynystred vnto them whiche were in aduersitie, yf she were contynually geuen vnto all maner good workes.

¹² I haue not forsaken the commaundemente of hys lippes, but loke what he charged me wt his mouth, that haue I shut vp in my herte.

³ I wyll not come within the tabernacle of my house, nor clyme vp in my bedde. ⁴ I wyll not suffer myne eyes to slepe, nor myne eye lyddes to slomber. ⁵ Vntill I fynde out a place for the Lorde, an habitacion for the mightye one of Iacob.

²⁹ Seyst thou nat, that they whyche be diligent in ther busines stand before kinges and not among the simple people?

¹⁰ Whatsoeuer thou takest in hande to do, that do wyth all thy power: for among the dead, wher as thou goest vnto, ther is nether worcke, councel, knowledge ner wysdome.

¹⁴ But whosoeuer shall drinke of the water that I shall geue hym, shall neuer be more a thyrste: but the water that I shall geue him, shall be in him a well of water, springinge vp into euerlasting lyfe.

³¹ And in the meane while his disciples praied hym saying: Maister, eate. ³² He said vnto them: I haue meate to eate, that ye knowe not of. ³³ Then saied the discyples betwene them selues: hath anye manne brought hym meate? ³⁴ Iesus saied to them: my meate is to do the wil of him that sent me. And to fynishe his workes.

⁵ Seruauntes be obedient vnto youre carnall maisters, wyth feare and tremblinge, in singlenes of youre hertes, as vnto Christe, ⁶ not wyth seruice in the eye sight, as men pleasers, but as the seruauntes of Christe, doynge the wyll of God frome the herte ⁷ wyth good wyll seruynge the Lorde, & not men. ⁸ And remembre that, whatsoeuer good thinge any man doeth, that shall he receiue agayne of the Lorde, whether he be bounde or fre.

² Se that they whiche haue beleuynge maysters, despyse them not because they are brethren: but so muche the rather do seruyce, for asmuch as they are beleuynge and beloued and partakers of the benefyte.

¹⁶ which entreated Abram wel for hir sake, so that he had shepe oxen, & he Asses, men seruauntes, mayd seruantes, she asses, and camels.

¹ Abraham was old and stryken in dayes, & the Lorde had blessed him in all thynges.

¹¹ And after the death of Abraham God blessed Isaac hys sonne, whych dwelled by the well of lyuynge and seynge.

¹² And Isaac sowed in that lande, & found in that same yere an .C. bushels: for the Lorde blessed hym, ¹³ & the man waxed myghty, and went forth and grewe tyll he was exceading greate, ¹⁴ that he had possession of shepe, of oxen, and a mighty housholde: so that the Philistians had enuye at hym:

³ Hys substaunce was .vij.M. shepe .iij.M. camels .v.C. youck of oxen .v.C. she asses, & a very greate housholde: so that he was one of the moste principall men amonge all them of the east countre.

¹⁰ and the Lorde turned hym vnto Iob, when he prayed for his frendes. Yea the Lorde gaue Iob twyse as muche as he had a fore. ¹¹ And then came there vnto him all hys brethren, all hys sisters, with all them that had bene of hys acquayntaunce afore, & ate bread wyth hym in hys house, wondryng at hym, & comfortyng hym ouer all the trouble, that the Lorde had brought vpon hym. Euery man gaue hym a shepe and a Iewell of golde. ¹² And the Lorde made Iob rycher then he was before: for he had .xiiij.M. shepe .vi.M. camels, a .M. youcke of oxen, & a .M. asshes.

³⁵ Thou haste geuen me the defence of thy healthe, thy ryghte hande vpholdeth me, and thy louynge correctyon maketh me greate.

³⁸ He blesseth them, so that they multiplye excedingly, and suffreth not their cattel to decrease.

³ Ryches and, plenteousnesse shalbe in hys house, and hys ryghtuousnesse endureth for euer.

⁴ The ende of lowlines and the feare of God, is riches, honour, prosperity and health.

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor toke them wyues. Abrams wyfe was called Sarai. And Nahors wyfe Mylca, the doughter of Haran whyche was father of Milca, & of Iesca. ³⁰ But Sarai was baren, and had no chylde.

¹⁵ And God sayde vnto Abraham. Sarai thy wyfe shal no more be called Sarai: but Sara shall her name be. ¹⁶ For I wyl blesse her and geue the a sonne of her & wyl blesse her: so that people, yea & kynges of people shal sprynge of her. ¹⁷ And Abraham fel vpon his face & laught, & sayd in his harte: shal a chylde be borne vnto hym that is an hundred yere olde, and shal Sara that is nynetie yere olde, bere: ¹⁸ And Abraham sayde vnto God. O that Ismael myghte lyue in thy syghte. ¹⁹ Then sayd God: Sara thy wyfe shal bere the a sonne in dede & thou shalt cal his name Isaac. And I wyll make my bond with him, that it shalbe an euerlasting bond vnto hys seed after him.

¹⁰ And he sayde: I wyll come agayne vnto the as sone as the frute can lyue. And loo: Sara thy wife shall haue a sonne. That hearde Sara, oute of the tent doore whyche was behynde hys backe. ¹¹ Abraham and Sara were both olde and well stryken in age, and it ceased to be wyth Sara after the maner as it is with wyues. ¹² And Sara laughed in her selfe sayinge: Now I am waxed olde, shall I geue my self to lust, and my Lorde olde also? ¹³ Than sayd the Lord vnto Abraham: wherfore doth Sara laughte sayinge: shall I of a suertie bere a chylde, now when I am olde? ¹⁴ is the thyng to harde for the Lorde to do? In the tyme appoynted wyll I returne vnto the, as sone as the frute can haue lyfe, and Sara shall haue a sonne.

¹ The Lorde vysyted Sara as he had sayd & dyd vnto her acordyng as he had promysed. ² And Sara was with chyld and bare Abraham a sonne in hys olde age euen the same season which the Lord had appoynted. ³ And Abraham called hys sonnes name that was borne vnto hym which Sara bare hym Isaac, ⁴ and Abraham circumcysed Isaac hys sonne when he was .viij. dayes olde, as God commaunded hym. ⁵ And Abraham was an hundred yere old, when his sonne Isaac was borne vnto him. ⁶ And Sara sayd: God hath made me a laughynge stocke: for al that heare, wyl laugh at me. ⁷ She sayde all so: who wold haue sayd vnto Abraham, that Sara shulde haue geuen children sucke, or that I shulde haue borne hym a sonne in his olde age:

¹⁰ Then she sayde vnto Abraham: put away this bondemaide & her sonne: for the sonne of this bondwoman shall not be heyre with my sonne Isaac:

⁵ But Abraham gaue all that he had vnto Isaac.

¹⁹ So shall thy seed be. And he fainted not in the fayth, nor yet consydered hys owne bodye which was now dead, euen when he was almost an hondred year olde: neyther yet that Sara was past chylde bearynge.

² And he sayd vnto his eldest seruaunte of hys house whyche had the rule ouer al that he had Put thy hand vnder my they ³ that I may make the swere by the Lord that is God of heauen & God of the erth, that thou shalt not take a wyfe vnto my sonne, of the daughters of the Canaanytes, among whych I dwel. ⁴ But shalt go vnto my contre and to my kynred, and there take a wyfe vnto my sonne Isaac. ⁵ Than sayd the seruaunte vnto him: what & yf the woman wyl not agree to come wyth me vnto thys lande, shal I brynge thy sonne agayn vnto the lande which thou camest out of? ⁶ And Abraham sayde vnto him: beware of that, that thou bryng not my sonne thyther. ⁷ The Lorde God of heauen whyche toke me from my fathers house and from the lande where I was borne, & whych spake vnto me and sware vnto me sayinge: vnto thy seed wyl I geue thys lande, he shal sende hys angell before the that thou mayste take a wyfe vnto my sonne from thence. ⁸ Neuerthelesse yf the woman wyl not agree to come wyth the than shalt thou be with out daunger of thys ooth. But aboue all thinge brynge not my sonne thyther agayne. ⁹ And the seruaunt put his hand vnder the thye of Abraham & sware to hym as concernyng that matter.

⁴⁶ And Rebecca spake to Isaac: I am werye of my life, for feare of the doughters of Heth. If Iacob take a wife of the doughters of Heth, such one as these are, or of the daughters of the land, what lust shold I haue to lyue.

¹ When all this was perfourmed, the rulers came to me, & sayde: The people of Israell, and the priestes, & Leuites are not separated from the nacions in the landes as thouchynge theyr abhomynacions, namely of the Cananites, Hethites, Pheresites, Iebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egypcyans, and Amorites. ² For they haue taken the doughters of the same, and their sonnes, and haue myxte the holy seade wyth the nacyons in the landes: and the hande of the prynces and rulers hath bene pryncypall in hys trespace. ³ When I hearde thys, I rent my clothes and my rayment, and plucte of the hearre of my heade, and of my bearde, and sate mournyng.

¹ Then the Lorde sayed vnto Abram. Get the out of thy contrye and frome thy kyndred, and oute of thy fathers house, into a Lande whyche I wyll shewe the.

¹⁹ Laban was gone to shere his shepe, & Rahel had stolen hir fathers images.

⁵ Than sayd the seruaunte vnto him: what & yf the woman wyl not agree to come wyth me vnto thys lande, shal I brynge thy sonne agayn vnto the lande which thou camest out of?

²² And Henoch walked wyth God after he had begat Mathusala .iij. hundred yere, & begat sonnes & daughters,

²⁴ & than Henoch liued a godly lyfe, and was no more sene, for God toke hym awaye.

⁹ These are the generacions of Noe. Noe was a ryghteous man & vncorrupte in hys tyme, & walked wt God.

¹ When Abram was nynetye yere olde and .ix. the Lorde apeared to hym sayinge: I am the almyghtye God: walke before me and be vncorrupte.

⁷ The Lorde God of heauen whyche toke me from my fathers house and from the lande where I was borne, & whych spake vnto me and sware vnto me sayinge: vnto thy seed wyl I geue thys lande, he shal sende hys angell before the that thou mayste take a wyfe vnto my sonne from thence.

¹⁵ And he blessed Ioseph saying: God before whome my fathers Abraham and Isaac dyd walke, and the god whyche had fedde me all my lyfe longe vnto thys day,

²⁰ Beholde, I sende myne aungel before the to kepe the in the waye, & to bryng the into the place whych I haue prepared.

³ and se that thou kepe thy appointment of the Lorde thy God, that thou walke in his waies and kepe his commaundementes, ordinaunce, lawes and testimonies, euen as it is written in the law of Moses: that thou mayest vnderstand al that thou oughtest to do, and al that thou shouldest medyll wyth.

²³ & sayde: Lorde God of Israel, there is no God lyke the in heauen aboue or in the earthe benethe, that kepest appoyntment & mercye wyth thy seruauntes that walcke before the wyth all theyr hertes:

³ Oh Lorde, remembre yet howe I haue walked before the truly and with a perfect herte, and haue done that whyche is good in thy sighte, and wepte a great pace.

³ Suche a man is lyke a tree planted by the watersyde, that bringeth forthe hys frute in due season. His leaues shall not fall af, & loke whatsoeuer he doth, it shall prospere.

⁸ Afore hand sawe I God alwayes before me, for he is on my righte hande, that I should not be moued.

¹¹ For he shall gyue his aungels charge ouer the, to kepe the in all thy wayes.

²⁸ Then spake Nabuchodonosor, and sayde: Blessed be the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, whiche hath sente his aungel, & defended hys seruauntes, that put their trust in him: that haue altered the kynges commaundement: and yeoparde theyr bodyes thervpon, rather then they wolde serue or worshyp any other God, excepte theyr owne God onelye.

⁸ I am Iohn which saw these thynges and harde them. And when I had hearde and sene, I fell doune to worshyppe before the fete of the aungell whiche shewed me these thynges.

¹⁶ I Iesus sent myne angell, to testifye vnto you these thinges in the congregacyons. I am the rote and the generacion of Dauid and the bryghte mornyng starre.

⁸ Neuerthelesse yf the woman wyl not agree to come wyth the than shalt thou be with out daunger of thys ooth. But aboue all thinge brynge not my sonne thyther agayne.

¹² that thou shuldest come vnder the appoyntment of the Lorde thy God, & vnder his oth which the Lord the God maketh with the this day.

¹² and he sayde. Lord God of my master Abraham, sende me good spede thys daye, and shewe mercye vnto my master Abraham. ¹³ Lo I stonde here by the well of water and the doughters of the men of thys cytie wyll come out to draw water: ¹⁴ Nowe the damsell to whome I saye, stoupe doune thy pytcher, and let me drinck. If she saye: Dryncke, and I wyll geue thy camels dryncke also, the same is she that thou hast ordened for thy seruaunte Isaac: yea and therby shall I knowe that thou hast shewed mercy on my master.

³¹ And Laban sayd come in thou blessed of the Lord. Wherefore standest thou wythout? I haue dressed the house, & made rowme for the camels.

³ And hys mayster sawe that the Lorde was wyth hym, and that the Lorde made all that he dyd prosper in hys hande:

²¹ And euen there at the water besyde Ahaua, caused I a fastynge to be proclamed, that we myghte humble oure selues before oure God, to seke of him a ryght waye for vs, and oure chyldren and all oure substaunce.

¹⁷ And the glorious maiesty of the Lord our God be vpon vs: O prospere thou the worke of our handes vpon vs, O prospere thou our handy worke.

⁷ When the aungell whiche spake vnto Cornelius, was departed, he called two of his housholde seruauntes, and a deuout souldier of them that waited on him ⁸ and told them all the mater, and sent them to Ioppa.

²² And they sayde vnto him: Cornelius the captaine, a iuste man, and one that feareth God, and of good reporte amonge al the people of the Iewes, was warned by an holye aungel to sende for the into hys house, and to heare wordes of the.

²² And the lord God made of the ribbe whych he toke out of Adam a woman: and brought her vnto Adam.

³³ The lotts are caste into the lappe, but there fal standeth in the Lorde.

²² Who so fyndeth a wyfe fyndeth a good thynge, and receyueth an wholsome benefyte of the Lord.

¹⁰ but wyth suche as becommeth women that professe the worshyppyng of God thorowe good workes.

² Be not forgetfull to lodge straungers. For therebye haue diuers receyued Angels into theyr houses vnwares.

¹³ For Hannah she spake in her hert, and her lippes dyd but moue onely, but her voyce was not heard. And therfore Eli toke her for droncken ¹⁴ & sayd vnto her: how long wilt thou be droncken? put away from the, the wine that thou hast ¹⁵ Hannah answered & sayd: not so my Lorde, I am a woman sorowfull in myne hert, & haue droncke nether wyne nor any stronge drinck, but I haue poured out my soule before the Lorde.

²⁷ For thou Lorde of Hostes God of Israel haste tolde in the eare of thy seruaunt saying: I wyll buylde the an house. And therfor hath thy seruaunt founde in hys harte to pray this prayer vnto the.

¹⁹ O Lorde, heare. O forgeue Lorde. O Lorde consydre, tarye not ouer longe: but for thyne owne sake do it. O my God: for the citie and thy people is called after thy name.

²³ For as sone as thou begannest to make thy prayer, it was so diuised, and therfore am I come to shewe the. And why? For thou arte a man greatly beloued. Wherfore, pondre the matter well, that thou mayest learne, to vnderstande the vision.

⁷ Axe and it shalbe geuen you. Seke and ye shall fynde. Knocke & it shalbe opened vnto you.

²⁴ And when they hearde that, they lifte vp their voices to God with one accorde, and saied: Lorde, thou art God, whiche haste made heauen and earth, the sea and al that in them is, ²⁵ whiche by the mouth of thy seruaunt Dauid hast said: Why dyd the heathen rage, and the people imagyn vaine thinges. ²⁶ The kinges of the earth stode vp and the rulers came together, againste Lorde and agaynste his Chryste. ²⁷ For of a trueth againste thy holy childe Iesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herode and also Poncius Pilate, with the Gentyls & the people of Israel, gathered them selues together, ²⁸ for to do whatsoeuer thy hande and thy councell determined before to be done. ²⁹ And nowe Lorde, beholde their threateninges, and graunte vnto thy seruauntes with all confidence to speake thy worde. ³⁰ So that thou stretche forth thy hande, that healing and signes and wounders be done by the name of thy holye chylde Iesus. ³¹ And assone as they had prayed, the place moued where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the holy ghoste, and they spake the worde of God boldlye. ³² And the multitude of them that beleued were of one herte, and of one soule. Also none of them said that anye of the thinges whyche he possessed, was his owne: but had all thinges commune. ³³ And with greate power gaue the Apostles wytnes of the resurreccion of the Lorde Iesus. And greate grace was geuen wt them all.

³⁰ And Cornelius sayde: Thys daye nowe .iiij. dayes I fasted and at the nynthe houre I prayde in my house: and beholde, a man stode before me in brighte clothinge,

¹² And as he consydered the thynge, he came to the house of Mary the mother of one Iohn which was called Marke also, where manye were gathered together in prayer. ¹³ As Peter knocketh at the entry dore, a damsell came forth to herken, named Rhoda, ¹⁴ when she knew Peters voyce, she opened not the entrey for gladnes, but ran in and tolde, how Peter stode before the entrey. ¹⁵ And they sayde vnto her: thou arte mad. And she bare them doune that it was euen so. Then sayde they: it is hys Aungel. ¹⁶ But Peter contynued knockynge. And when they had opened the dore, and sawe hym, they were astonyed. ¹⁷ And he beckened vnto them with the hande to holde theyr peace, and tolde them by what meanes the Lord hath brought hym out of the pryson. And he sayde: go shew these thynges vnto Iames, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

²⁶ Lykewyse the spirite also helpeth our infirmityes. For we knowe not what to desyre as we ought: but the spirite maketh intercession mightelye for vs wyth gronynges whiche can not be expressed with tonge.

¹⁸ And she sayd: dryncke my Lorde. And she hasted and late doune her pytcher vpon her arme & gaue him drincke. ¹⁹ And when she had geuen him drincke, she sayde: I wyll drawe water for thy camels also, vntyll they haue dronck ynough.

²² And as the camels had left drincking, he toke a golden earing of half a sicle weyght, & two bracelettes for her handes, of .x. sycles weyght of gold, ²³ and sayde vnto her: Whose doughter art thou? tell me: is there rowme in thy fathers house for vs to lodge in? ²⁴ And she sayd vnto him: I am the doughter of Bathuel the sonne of Milcha whyche she bare vnto Nahor:

⁵³ And the seruaunt toke forthe iewels of siluer, & iewels of golde, & rayment, & gaue them to Rebecca: but vnto hyr brother, & to hir mother he gaue spyces.

⁹ Kynges daughters go in thy goodly aray and vpon thy right hande standeth the quene in a vesture of the most fyne golde.

¹³ The kynges daughter is all glorious within, her clothyng is of wrought golde. ¹⁴ She shalbe brought vnto the kyng in rayment of nedle worke, & maidens after her: such as be next her shalbe brought vnto the.

³ Thou shalt be a croune in the hande of the Lorde, and a glorious garlande in the hande of thy God. ⁴ From this tyme forthe thou shalt neuer be called the forsaken, & thy land shal no more be called the wildernesse. But thou shalt be called Hephribah, & thy lande Beula: for the Lorde loueth the, and thy land shalbe inhabyted. ⁵ And lyke as a younge man taketh a doughter to mariage, so shall God mary him selfe vnto thy sonnes. And as a brydegrome is glad of his bride, so shall God reioyse ouer the.

¹⁰ I gaue the chaunge of raymentes, I made the shues of Tarus lether: I gyrthed the about with whyte sylcke, I clothed the with kerchues, ¹¹ I decked the wyth costly apparell, I put rynges vpon thy fyngers: a chayne aboute thy necke, ¹² spanges vpon thy fore head, eare rynges vpon thyne eares, and set a beutyfull croune vpon thyne heade. ¹³ Thus waste thou deckte with syluer & golde, and thy rayment was of fyne whyte sylke, of nedle worke & of dyuerse colours. Thou dyddest eate nothynge but symnels, hony and oyle: maruelous goodly wast thou & beutiful, yea euen a very Quene wast thou:

²⁶ to sanctifye it, and cleansed it in the fountayne of water thorowe the worde ²⁷ to make it vnto hym selfe a glorious congregation wythout spotte or wrinckle, or anye suche thinge: but that it shoulde be holy and wythout blame.

²⁶ And the man bowed him self, & worship shypped the Lord, ²⁷ & sayd: blessed be the lorde God of my master Abraham whych ceasseth not to deale mercyfully & truly wyth my master, & hath brought me the waye to my masters brothers house.

²⁰ and prouide them ordinaunces & lawes, and shewe them the waye wherin they must walke and the workes that they must do.

¹⁴ For this God is our God for euer & euer, and he shall alwaye be oure guyde.

⁷ He ledde them forth by the ryghte waye, that they myghte go to the cytye where they dwelt.

¹¹ I wyll shewe the, the waye of wysdome, and leade the in the ryght pathes,

¹⁷ And thus sayeth the Lord God thyne auenger, the holye one of Israell: I am the Lorde thy God, whiche teache the profitable thynges, & leade the the waye, that thou shuldest go.

¹⁷ let vs go a good felowshype thorow thy contrey we wil not go thorow thi feldes nor thorow the viniyardes, neither wyl we drinke of the water of the fountaynes, but we wyll go vp the hye way, & neyther turne vnto the righte hand nor to the lift, vntyl we be past thy contrye.

²⁷ Let me go thorow thy land. I wyl go al wayes alonge by the hye way & wyll nether turne vnto the ryght hand nor to the left.

¹⁴ And the men aunswered her: our lyues for you to dye, yf ye vtter not thys oure communicacyon. And so when the Lorde hath geuen vs the lande, we wyll deale mercyfully and truely wyth the.

³ Let mercy & faythfulnes neuer go from the: bynde them about thy necke, & write them in the tables of thyne hert.

²⁸ And the damsel ranne & tolde them of her mothers house these thynges.

²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dreame by nyght, & sayd vnto him: take hede to thy selfe, that thou speake not to Iacob ought saue good.

²⁹ for I am able to do you euyl. But the God of youre father spake vnto me yesterday saying: take hede that thou speake not to Iacob ought saue good.

²² And Absalom sayde vnto hys brother Amnon neyther good nor bad. Howe be it Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his syster Thamar.

²³ Thys was the Lordes doynge, and it is maruelous in our eyes.

⁴² Iesus sayde vnto them: dyd ye neuer reade in the scriptures. The stone which the buylders refused, the same is set in the principall parte of the corner: thys was the Lordes doynge, and it is meruelous in oure eyes.

¹¹ thys was done of the Lorde, and is merueylouse in our eyes.

¹⁷ For as much then as God gaue them lyke giftes, as he dyd vnto vs, when we beleued on the Lord Iesus Christe: what was I that I shoulde haue withstand God?

¹⁵ And Abimelech sayde: beholde the land lyeth before the, dwel where it pleaseth the best.

¹ Of Dauid, when he fayned hym self too be madde before Abimelech: whyche droue hym awaye, and he departed. I wyll alwaye geue thanckes vnto the LORD, hys prayse shall euer be in my mouth. ² My soule shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall heare therof, & be glad.

²¹ O that men woulde prayse the goodnesse of the Lord, and the wonders that he doth for the chyldren of men. ²² That they wolde offre vnto him the sacrifice of thankesgeuyng, & tell out hys workes with gladnes.

¹ I am wel pleased, that the Lord hath hearde the voyce of my prayer. ² That he hath enclyned his eare vnto me, therfore wil I cal vpon him as long as I lyue.

¹¹ and went into the house, and found the chylde with Mary his mother, and kneled doune & worshypped him, and opened their treasures and offred to him giftes golde, frankinsence and myrre.

²⁵ And as it chaunsed Peter to come in, Cornelius met him, and fel doune at his fete, and worshipped him. ²⁶ But Peter toke him vp saiynge: stand vp: for euen I me selfe am a man.

²² And as the camels had left drincking, he toke a golden earing of half a sicle weyght, & two bracelettes for her handes, of .x. sycles weyght of gold,

²² but euery wyfe shall borowe of hyr neyghbouresse, & of hyr that soiourneth in hir house, iewels of siluer and of gold & rayment. And ye shal put them on youre sonnes & daughters, and shal robbe the Egyptians.

² But byd the people, that euery man borowe of hys neyghboure, and euery womanne of hyr neyghboures, Iewels of siluer and iewels of golde.

³⁵ And the chyldren of Israel dyd accordyng to the saying of Moses: and they borowed of the Egypcyans yewels of siluer, and yewels of gold, and rayment.

¹³ And vnto Ioseph he sayed: blessed of the Lord is hys hand wyth the goodly frutes of heauen, wyth dewe and with sprynges that lie beneath: ¹⁴ & with fruytes of the encrease of the sunne & with ripe frute of the monethes, ¹⁵ & wyth the toppes of mountaines that were from the begynnyng and wyth the dayntes of hylles that last euer ¹⁶ & wyth goodly frute of the earth and of the fulnes therof. And the good wyll of him that dwelleth in the bush shal come vpon the head of Ioseph and vpon the toppe of the head of hym that was separated from among hys brethren,

³ And their father gaue them many great gyftes in syluer, goulde & other preciouse thinges with stronge cytyes in Iuda: but the kingedom he gaue to Iehoram, because he was the eldest.

⁶ And al they that were aboute them, strengthed their hand with vessels of syluer and golde, with good & catel, and Iewels, besyde that whiche they gaue of their owne frewyll.

¹³ The frutes that sprute in the, are like a very Paradyse of pomegranates with swete frutes:

² And Hezekiah was glad therof, and shewed them the commodytyes of hys treasure, of syluer, of golde, of spyces and rootes, of precyous oyles, all that was in hys cubbordes & treasure houses. There was not one thing in Hezekiahs house, & so thorow out all hys kyngdome, but he let them se it.

⁵⁹ So they let Rebecca theyr syster go wyth hir nurse & Abrahams seruaunte, & the men that were wyth him.

¹⁰ Saye not thou: What is the cause that the dayes of the olde tyme were better, then they that be now? for that were no wyse question.

³⁸ Then the man out of whom the deuils were departed, besought him that he myght be with him. ⁸ And within a shorte space after, as he went thether againe to take her to wyfe, he turned out of the waye, to se the carkasse of the Lion. And beholde there was a swarme of bees in the carkasse of the Lyon, and honye.

⁹ Hast you & goo to my father & tell hym, thys sayeth thy sonne Ioseph: God hath made me Lord ouer all Egypte. Come doune vnto me, and tarye not. ¹⁰ And thou shalt dwell in the lande of Gosan and be by me: both thou and thy children, and thy chyldrens chylderen: and thy shepe, and beastes & all that thou hast. ¹¹ There wyll I make prouisyon for the: for there remayne yet .v. yeres of derth, lest thou and thy housholde and all that thou hast perysh. ¹² Beholde, youre eyes do se, and the eyes also of my brother Beniamyn, that I speake to you by mouth. ¹³ Therfore tell my father of all my honoure wych I haue in Egypt and of all that ye haue sene, and make hast and brynge my father hyther.

⁸ let not the boke of thys lawe departe out of thy mouthe: But recorde therein daye & night that thou mayest be circumspect to do accordyng to all that is wrytten therein. For then shalt thou make thy waye prosperouse, & then thou shalt haue vnderstandyng.

²⁵ A good reporte out of a farre contre, is like could water to a thirsty soule.

¹⁵ I my self alone haue tolde you this before. Yea I shall call him and brynge him forth & geue him a prosperous iourneye.

¹⁰ Herken (O daughter) considre, & enclyne thyne eare: forget thyne owne people, & thy fathers house. ¹¹ So shall the kynge haue pleasure in thy beuty, for he is thy Lorde, & thou shalte worshyp hym.

³⁸ And Marye sayde: beholde the hande mayden of the Lord, be it vnto me euen as thou haste said. And the aungel departed from her.

⁵⁰ Then answered Laban & Bethuel saying: The thing is proceaded euen out of the Lord, we can not therfore say vnto the, either good or bad:

¹² haue I conceyued all thys people, or haue I begotte them, that thou shouldest saye vnto me, carye them in thy bosome (as a nurse beareth the suckyng chyld) vnto the land whych thou swarest vnto their fathers?

⁵ Neither was our conuersacyon at anye tyme wyth flatterynge wordes, as ye well knowe neyther in cloked couetousnes, god is record:

²⁸ And God blessed them, & God sayde vnto them: Growe and multiplye & fyl the erth, & subdue it, & haue dominion ouer the fyshes of the sea, and ouer the foules of the ayre, and ouer al the beastes that moue on the erth.

¹ And God blessed Noe & hys sonnes, and said vnto them: Encreace & multiply and fyll the earth.

¹⁶ For I wyl blesse her and geue the a sonne of her & wyl blesse her: so that people, yea & kynges of people shal sprynge of her.

¹⁷ that I wyll blesse the & multiplie thy seed as the starres of heauen and as the sande vpon the sea syde. And thy seed shall possesse the gates of hys enymies.

³ And God almyghty blesse the, encrease the, and multiply the that thou mayst be a numbre of people,

¹⁵ And he blessed Ioseph saying: God before whome my fathers Abraham and Isaac dyd walke, and the god whyche had fedde me all my lyfe longe vnto thys day, ¹⁶ And the augell which hath delyuered me from al euyll, blesse these laddes: that they may be called after my name, and after my father Abraham and Isaac, and that they may growe & multiplye vpon the erth.

²⁰ And he blessed them sayinge. At the ensample of these, the Israelites shal blesse and say: God make the as Ephraim and as manasses. Thus sett he Ephraim before Manasses.

⁴⁶ And ye shall possesse them & gyue them vnto youre chyldren after you, to possesse them foreuer: and they shal be your bondmen. But ouer your brethren the children of Israel, ye shal not raygne one ouer another cruelly.

¹⁹ Then let his father & his mother take him and bring him out vnto the elders of that citie and vnto the gate of that same place,

¹¹ And al the people that were in the gate, & the elders said: we are witnesses: the Lorde make the woman that is come into thine house lyke Rahel & Lea, which twayne dyd builde the house of Israel: that she maye do vertuously in Ephrathah, & be famouse in Bethlehem, ¹² and that thyne house be like the house of Pharez, whom Thamar bare vnto Iuda, euen of the seed, which the Lorde shall geue the of this young woman.

¹⁰ There drewe forthe a fyrye streame, and wente out from him. A thousande tymes a thousande serued him .x.M. tymes ten thousande stode before him. The iudgement was set, and the bokes opened.

²⁴ For this cause shal a man leue father & mother, & cleue vnto hys wyfe, & they shal be one flesh.

³⁴ And Rahel toke the Images & put them in the camels strawe & sate downe vpon them. And Laban searched all the tente but found them not.

¹¹ Therefore wyll I remembre the worckes of the Lorde, and call to mynde thy wonders of olde tyme. ¹² I wyll speake of all thy worckes, and my talkynge shalbe of thy doynges.

³⁴ O that my wordes might please hym, for my ioye is in the Lorde.

¹⁵ I wyl exercise my selfe in thy commaundementes, and haue respect vnto thy fotepathe

²⁷ Make me to vnderstand the waye of thy commaundementes, and so shall I talcke of thy wonderous workes.

⁴⁸ My handes also wyll I lyft vp vnto thy commaundementes which I loue, and my talkinge shalbe of thy statutes.

¹⁷ How deare are thy counsails vnto me O God? O how greate is the summe of them? ¹⁸ If I tell them, they are mo in numbre then the sande: when I wake vp, I am presente with the.

⁵ Yet do I remembre the times past, I muse vpon all thy workes, yea, I exercise my selfe in the workes of thy handes. ⁶ I stretche forthe myne handes vnto the, my soule cryeth vnto the oute of the thyrstye lande. Selah.

⁵ As for me I will be talkynge of thy worshyp, thy glory, thy prayse, and wonderous workes.

¹⁸ And as she went she moued hym, to aske of her father a felde. And she alyghted of her asse. And Caleb sayde vnto her, what ayleth the.

¹ Sara was an hundred and .xxvij. yere old (for so long lyued she) ² and than dyed in a heade cytye called Hebron in the lande of Canaan. Than Abraham cam to morne Sara, and to wepe for her.

¹ Therfore be glad nowe, thou baren that bearest not. Reioyce, singe, and be mery, thou that arte not with chyld. For the desolate hath mo children, then the maried wife sayeth the Lorde. ² Make thy tente wyder, and sprede out the hanginges of thyne habytacion: spare not, laye forth thy coardes, and make faste thy stakes, ³ for thou shalt breake oute on the ryght syde and on the left, & thy sede shall haue the Gentyles in possessyon, & dwell in the desolate cities. ⁴ Feare not, for thou shalte not be confounded: Be not ashamed, for thou shalt not come to confusyon. Yea thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remembre the dyshonoure of thy wedowheade. ⁵ For he that made the, shalbe thy Lorde & husband (whose name is the Lorde of hostes) & thyne auenger shalbe euen the holy one of Israel, the Lorde of the whole worlde.

¹ Wolde to God ye coulde suffre me a lytell in my folyshenes: yea, and I praye you, forbeare me. ² For I am gelous ouer you with godly gelousye. For I coupled you to one man, to make you a chaste virgyn to Christe.

²² Women submitte youre selues vnto your owne husbandes, as vnto the Lorde. ²³ For the husbande is the wyues head, euen as Christe is the heade of the congregation, and the same is the sauiour of the body. ²⁴ Therfore as the congregation is in subieccion to Christe, lykewyse let the wyues be in subieccion to theyr husbandes in all thynges. ²⁵ Husbandes loue youre wyues, euen as Christe loued the congregation, and gaue him selfe for it, ²⁶ to sanctifye it, and cleansed it in the fountayne of water thorowe the worde ²⁷ to make it vnto hym selfe a glorious congregation wythout spotte or wrinckle, or anye suche thinge: but that it shoulde be holy and wythout blame. ²⁸ So ought men to loue theyr wyues, as their owne bodies. He that loueth hys wyfe, loueth him selfe. ²⁹ For no man euer yet hated hys owne fleshe, but norisheth and cherisseth it euen as the Lorde doeth the congregation. ³⁰ For we are members of his bodie, of his fleshe, and of hys bones. ³¹ For this cause shall a man leaue father and mother, and shall continue wyth hys wyfe, and two shalbe made one fleshe. ³² Thys is a greate secrete, but I speake betwene Christe and the congregation. ³³ Neuerthelesse do ye so that euerye one of you loue his wyfe truely euen as hym selfe: And let the wyfe se that she feare her husbande.

¹³ I woulde not brethren haue you ignoraunt concerninge them whiche are fallen a sleepe, that ye sorowe not as other do which haue no hope.

¹⁵ And thys saye we vnto you in the worde of the Lorde, that we whyche lyue and are remaynynge in the commynge of the Lorde, shal not come yerre they which slepe.
