¹³ Wo be vnto them, for they haue forsaken me. They must be destroyed, for they haue set me at naught. I am he that haue redemed them, and yet they dissemble with me.

¹⁵ And remembre that thou waste a seruaunt in the lande of Egypte, and the Lord thy God delyuered the thence: wherfore I commaunde the thys thyng to daye.

¹⁰ They are thy seruauntes, & thy people whom thou haste delyuered thorowe thy greate power and myghtye hande.

¹⁴ They say vnto God: go from vs: we desyre not the knowledge of thy wayes. ¹⁵ What maner of felow is the Almightye, that we shoulde serue him? What profyt should we haue, to submitte oure selues vnto hym?

¹⁷ whiche say vnto God: go from vs, and after this maner: Tush, what wyll the Almyghty do vnto vs?

¹⁰ Thus he saued them from the hand of the hater, and delyuered them from the hande of the enemye.

² Let them geue thankes whome the Lord hath redemed, & deliuered from the hande of the enemye. ³ And gathered them out of the landes, from the East, from the West, from the North and from the South.

⁷ Whither shal I go then from thy sprete? or, whyther shall I go then frome thy presence? ⁸ If I clyme vp into heauen, thou art there if I go doune to hel, thou art there also. ⁹ If I take the wynges of the mornynge, & remayne in the vttermost parte of the sea:

¹ Wo be vnto them that go doune into Egypte for help, and trust in horses, & comforte themselues in charettes, because they be many, & in horse men because they be lusty & strong. But they regarde not the holy one of Israel, and they aske no question at the Lorde.

¹⁴ Be not a frayde thou lytle worme Iacob, & thou despysed Israell for I will helpe the, sayeth the Lorde, and the holy one of Israel thyne auenger.

¹ But now, the Lorde that made the O Iacob, & he that fashyoned the O Israel, sayeth thus: Feare not, for I wyll defende the. I haue called the by name thou art myne owne.

¹³ Namely transgresse and dissemble agaynst the Lorde, and fall awaye from oure God: vsinge presumptuous and trayterous ymaginacions, and castynge false matters in oure hertes.

⁸ For he sayde: These no doute wylbe my people and no shrynkynge chyldren, and so he was their sauyoure.

¹⁰ Then spake the Lorde, concernynge this people that haue pleasure to go so nymblye with their fete, and leaue not of, and therfore displease the Lorde: in so much, that he wyll now bringe agayne to remembraunce al their mysdedes, and punysh all their synnes.

¹¹ Speake now therfore vnto whole Iuda, and to them that dwell at Ierusalem: Thus sayeth the Lorde: Beholde, I am deuysynge a plage for you, and am takynge a thynge in hande agaynst you. Therfore let euery man turne from hys euell waye, take vpon you the thinge that is good, and do ryght. ¹² But they saye: No more of this, we wyll folowe oure owne ymagynacyons, and do euery man accordyng to the wylfulnesse of his owne mynde.

²⁰ els shall ye begyle youre selues. For ye sent me vnto the Lorde oure God, and sayde: O praye thou the lord oure God for vs: and loke what answere the lorde oure God geueth the, that brynge vs againe & we shall do therafter.

¹⁷ but whatsoeuer goeth oute of oure owne mouth, that wyl we do. We wyl do sacryfice, and offre oblacions vnto the Quene of Heauen: lyke as we & our forefathers, our kinges and oure heades haue done in the cities of Iuda, & in the stretes, & feldes of Ierusalem. For then had we plenteousnesse of vytayles, then were we in prosperytie, and no mysfortune came vpon vs. ¹⁸ But sence we left, to offre, and to do sacrifice vnto the Quene of Heauen, we haue had scarcenes of all thynges, and peryshe wyth the swerde and honger.

¹⁶ The garlande of oure head is fallen: alas, that euer we synned so sore.

²³ After all these thy wickednesses (wo wo vnto the, sayeth the Lord)

² what meane by thys comen prouerbe that ye vse in the land of Israel sayinge: The fathers haue eaten soure grapes, and the childrens teth are set on edge?

²⁵ And yet ye say: Tush, the waye of the lord is not indifferent. Heare therfore the house of Israel: Is not my way ryght? Or, are not youre wayes rather wicked?

⁶ My shepe go wandrynge vpon all mountaynes, and vpon euerye hye hyl. Yea they be scatred abroade in al feldes, and there is no man, that careth for them, or seketh after them.

¹ When I vndertake to make Israel whole, then the vngracyousnes of Ephraim and the wickednes of Samaria commeth to lyght: then go they aboute with lyes. At home, they be theues: & withoute they fall to robbinge.

³ They make the kinge & the princes, to haue pleasure in their wickednes and lyes.

¹² And though they bring vp any yet wyll I make them chyldelesse among men. Yea, wo shall come to them, when I departe from them.

¹⁷ My god shal cast them awaye, for they haue not bene obedient vnto hym, therefore shal they go astray amonge the Heathen.

² But the more they were called the more they went backe, offeringe vnto Idols, and ceasinge Images.

¹² But Ephraim goeth about me with lyes, & the house of Israel dissembleth. Onelye Iuda beholdeth him with God, and with the true holy thinges.

³ And Ionas made hym ready to fle vnto Tharsis from the presence of the Lord, and gat hym downe to Ioppa: where he founde a shyppe ready for to go vnto Tharsis. So he payde his fare, & wente aborde, that he myght go wyth them vnto Tharsis, from the presence of the Lorde.

¹⁰ Then where the men exceadingly afrayed, & sayde vnto hym: why didest thou so? (for they knewe, that he was fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had tolde them)

⁴ Because I brought the from the lande of Egypte, and delyuered the out of the house of bondage? Because I made Moses, Aaron and Miriam to lede the?

¹³ Ye speake harde wordes agaynst me, sayeth the Lorde. And yet ye saye: What haue we spoken agaynst the? ¹⁴ Ye haue sayed. Is it but lost labour, to serue God? What profyt haue we for keping his commaundementes, and for walkinge humbly before the Lorde of Hostes? ¹⁵ Therfore maye we saye, that the proude are happye, and that they whiche deale with the vngodlynesse, are sette vp: for they tempte God, and yet escape.

¹³ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, for ye shut vp the kyngdome of heauen before men: ye youre selues go not in, neyther suffer ye them that come to enter in. ¹⁴ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, ye deuoure wyddowes houses, & that vnder a coloure of praieng long prayers wherfore ye shall receyue great damnacion. ¹⁵ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrites: which compasse sea and lande, to brynge one into youre belefe: and when he is brought ye make hym two folde more the chyld of hell: then ye your selues are. ¹⁶ Wo be vnto you blynde guydes, whyche say whosoeuer sweare by the temple, it is nothing, but whosoeuer sweared by the golde of the temple: he offendeth. ¹⁷ Ye fooles and blind, whither is greater, the golde, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whosoeuer sweareth by the aultare, it is nothynge: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offeryng that lyeth on the aulter, offendeth. ¹⁹ Ye fooles and blynde, whither is greater the offerynge, or the aulter whiche sanctifieth the offeryng? ²⁰ Whosoeuer therfore sweareth by the aultare, sweareth by it and by all that thereon is. ²¹ And whosoeuer sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it and by hym that dwelleth therin. ²² And he that sweareth by heauen sweareth by the seate of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, which tythe mynte, anyse and commen, and leaue the wayghtyer matters of the lawe vndone: iudgement, mercy, and faythe. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue lefte the other vndone. ²⁴ Ye blynde guydes whiche strayne out a gnat, and swallowe a cammell. ²⁵ Wo be to you Scribes and Pharises hypocrites, which make cleane the vtter side of the cuppe, & of the platter: but within they are ful of bribery and excesse. ²⁶ Thou blynd Pharisei, clense first the ynneside of the cup & platter, that the outside of them may be clene also. ²⁷ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrytes, for ye are lyke vnto paynted tombes, whiche appeare beautifull outwarde, but are within full of dead bones and of all filthines. ²⁸ So are ye, for outwarde ye apeare righteouse vnto men, when within, ye are full of hypocresie and iniquitie. ²⁹ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrites, ye buylde the tombes of the Prophetes and garnysh the sepulchres of the righteouse,

³⁷ Ierusalem, Ierusalem which killest prophetes, and stone them which are sent to the: howe often would I haue gathered thy children together: as the henne gathered her chikens vnder her winges, but ye would not.

¹⁸ For as muche as ye know howe that ye were not redemed wyth corruptyble syluer and golde, from youre vayne conuersacyon whiche ye receyued by the tradicyons of the fathers: ¹⁹ but wyth the precyous bloud of christ as of a lambe vndefyled, and wythout spotte,

¹⁰ If we say we haue not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in vs.

¹³ And I behelde and hearde an angell fliynge thorowe the middes of heauen, sayinge wyth a loude voyce: Wo, wo, to the inhabiters of the earth, because of the voyces to come of the trompe of the .iij. angels, whyche were yet to blowe.
