¹ And Moses spake vnto the heades of the trybes of the chyldren of Israell sayinge: thys is the thyng which the Lord commandeth. ² If a man vowe vnto the Lorde or swere an othe and bynde hys soule, he shall not go backe with hys worde: but shal fulfyll all that proceadeth out of his mouth. ³ If a damsell vowe a vowe vnto the Lord and bynde her selfe beyinge in her fathers house and vnmaried. ⁴ If her father heare her vowe & bond which she hath made vpon her soule, & holde hys peace therto: then all her vowes & bondes which she hath made vpon her soule shall stande in effecte. ⁵ But & yf her father forbyd her the same daye that he heareth it, none of her vowes nor bondes whych she hath made vpon her soule shalbe of value, & the Lorde shall forgeue her, because her father forbade her. ⁶ If she had an husband when she vowed or pronounced oughte out of her lyppes wherwith she bonde her soule, ⁷ and her husbande hearde it and helde hys peace there at the same daye he hearde it: Then her vowes and her bondes wherwyth she bounde her soule, shall stande in effecte. ⁸ But and yf her husbande forbade her the same day that the heard it, then hath he made her vowe whyche she had vpon her of none effecte, and that also which she pronounced wt her lyppes wherwyth she bounde her soule, and the lord shal forgeue her. ⁹ The vowe of a wyddowe and of her that is deuorced, and all that they haue bounde their soules wyth all, shall stande in effecte wyth them. ¹⁰ If she vowed in her husbandes house or bounde her soule with an oth, ¹¹ & her husband heard it and helde hys peace and forbade her not: then al her vowes & boundes wherwith she bound her soule, shall stande. ¹² But yf her husband disanulled them the same daye that he heard them, then nothyng that proceded out of her lippes in vowes & boundes wherwith she bounde her soule shall stande in effecte: for her husbande hath loused them. And the Lord shal forgeue her. ¹³ All vowes and othes that bynde to humble the soule, maye her husbande stablyshe or breake. ¹⁴ But yf her husbande holde hys peace from one day vnto another, then he stablysheth al her vowes and bondes whyche she had vpon her, because he helde his peace the same day that he heard them. ¹⁵ And yf he afterward breake them, he shal beare her sinne hym selfe. ¹⁶ These are the ordynaunces whyche the Lord commaunded Moses, betwene a man and hys wyfe, and betwene the father & hys daughter, beyinge a damsell in her fathers house.

²⁵ & chose actyue men out of all Israel and made them heades ouer the people, captaynes ouer thousandes, ouer hundreds, ouer fiftye and ouer ten.

⁴ and wyth you shall be of euerye trybe a heade man in the house of hys father. ⁵ And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of Ruben, Elizur the sonne of Sedeur: ⁶ of Simeon, Selumiel the sonne of Sury Sadai: ⁷ of the trybe of Iuda Nahesson the sonne of Aminadab: ⁸ of Isachar, Nathanael the sonne of Zuar: ⁹ of Zabulon, Eliab the sonne of Helon. ¹⁰ Amonge the chyldren of Ioseph: of Ephraim, Elisama the sonne of Amihud: of Manasse, Gamaliel the sonne of Pedazur: ¹¹ of BenIamin, Abidan the sonne of Gedeoni: ¹² of Dan, Ahiezer the sonne of Ammi Sadai: ¹³ of Aser, Pagyel the sonne of Ocran: ¹⁴ of Gad, Elisaph the sonne of Deguel: ¹⁵ of Nephthaly, Ahira the sonne of Enan. ¹⁶ These were the councelers of the congregation & Lordes in the tribes of theyr fathers and captaynes ouer thousandes in Israel.

² then the prynces of Israell heades ouer the houses of their fathers whyche were the Lordes of the tribes that stode and numbred,

¹⁷ These are the names of the men, which shal deuyde you the land to enheret Eleazar the preast, & Iosua the sonne of Nun. ¹⁸ And ye shall take also a Lorde of euery trybe to deuyde the lande, ¹⁹ whose names are these: In the trybe of Iuda, Caleb the sonne of Iephune. ²⁰ And in the trybe of the chyldren of Simeon, Semuel the sonne of Amiud, ²¹ & in the trybe of BenIamin, Elidad the sonne of Cislon. ²² And in the trybe of the chyldren of Dan, the Lord Bucki the sonne of Iagli. ²³ And among the chyldren of Ioseph: in the trybe of the children of Manasse, the Lord Haniel the sonne of Ephod. ²⁴ And in the trybe of the chyldren of Ephraim, the Lorde Camuell the sonne of Siphtan. ²⁵ And in the trybe of the sonnes of Zabulon, the Lord Elizaphan the sonne of Pharnach. ²⁶ And in the trybe of the children of Isachar, the lord Palthiel the sonne of Asan. ²⁷ And the trybe of the sonnes of Aser, the lord Ahihud the sonne of Salomi. ²⁸ And in the trybe of the children of Nephthali, the Lord Peda El the sonne of Ammihud.

¹³ brynge therfore men of wisedome & of vnderstandynge & expert: knowen amonge youre trybes, that I maye make them ruelars ouer you, ¹⁴ And ye answerd me and sayde: that which thou hast spoken is good to be done. ¹⁵ And then I toke the heades of youre tribes, men of wysdome & that were expert. and made them ruelars ouer you: captaines ouer thousandes, & ouer hundreds, ouer fyfty & ouer ten, officers a monge youre trybes. ¹⁶ And I charged your Iudges the same time sayinge: heare youre brethren & iudge ryghteously betwene euery man and his brother and the straunger that is wyth hym. ¹⁷ Se that ye know no man in Iudgement: but heare the small as well as the greate & be afrayed of no man, for the iudgment is Gods. And the cause that is to harde for you, bryng vnto me and I will heare it.

²⁰ before time And Iacob vowed a vowe sayinge: If God wyll be wyth me, and wyll kepe me in thys iourney whyche I goo, and wyll gyue me breade to eate, and clothes to put on, ²¹ so that I come againe vnto mi fathers house in saftye, then shall the Lorde be my God, ²² & thys stone whyche I haue sette vp an ende, shall be Goddes house: and of all that thou shalte gyue me, wyll I gyue the tenth vnto the.

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vayne, for the Lord wil not hold him giltlesse that taketh his name in vayne.

⁴ Either when a soule sweareth: so that he pronounceth wyth his lyps to do euil or to do good (whatsoeuer it be that a man pronounceth wyth an othe) and the thynge be out of hys mynde & afterwarde cometh to the knowelege of it, then he hath offended in one of these.

² speake vnto the chyldren of Israel and say vnto them: If any man wyl geue a singuler vowe vnto the Lord accordynge to the value of hys Soule, ³ then shall the male from twentye yere vnto .lx. be sette at fyfty sycles of syluer, after the sycle of the sanctuary, ⁴ & the female at .xxx. sicles. ⁵ And from fiue yeares to twenty the male shall be set at twentye sycles, and the female at .x. sycles. ⁶ And from a moneth vnto .v. yere the male shal be set at .v. sycles of syluer, & the female at thre. ⁷ And the man that is .lx. and aboue, shal be valued at .xv. sycles, and the woman at .x. ⁸ If he be to pore so to be set, then let hym come before the prieste: and let the prieste value hym accordinge as the hand of hym that vowed is able to get. ⁹ If it be of the beastes of whych men bring an offeryng vnto the Lord: all that any man geueth of such vnto the lord, shalbe holy. ¹⁰ He may not alter it nor chaunge it: a good for a bad or a bad for a good. If he chaunge beast for beaste, then both the same beast and it also wherwith it was chaunged shalbe holy. ¹¹ If it be any maner of vncleane beaste of which men maye not offer vnto the Lorde, let hym brynge the beaste before the priest ¹² & lette the priest value it. And whether it be good or badde as the prieste setteth it, so shall it be. ¹³ And if he wyll bye it agayne, lette him giue the fyft part more to that it was set at. ¹⁴ If any man dedicate his house, it shall be holy vnto the Lord. And the priest shall sette it, whether it be good or bad, & as the prieste hath set it, so it shalbe. ¹⁵ If he that sanctified it wyll redeme his house, lette hym giue the fift part of the money that it was iudged at therto, and it shalbe hys. ¹⁶ If a man halow a pece of hys enhereted lande vnto the Lorde, it shalbe set according to that it beareth. If it beare an homer of barlye, it shal be set at fyfty sycles of syluer. ¹⁷ If he halow his feld immediatly that from the yere of iubely, it shal be worth according as it is estemed. ¹⁸ But & if he halow his fyeld after the trumpet yere, the priest shall reken the price wyth him accordynge to the yeres that remayne vnto the trumpet yere, and therafter it shalbe lower set. ¹⁹ If he that sanctified the field wyl redeme it agayne, let him putte the fyfte parte of the pryce that it was set at therunto, ²⁰ and it shall be hys, if he wyll not it shall be redemed no more. ²¹ But when the fyelde goeth out in the yere of iubely, it shalbe holy vnto the Lord: euen as a thyng dedicated, and it shal be the priestes possession. ²² If a man sanctify vnto the Lorde a field, whych he hath bought and is not of hys enheritaunce, ²³ then the prieste shall reken wyth him what it is worth vnto the yere of Iubely, & he shal gyue the price that it is set at the same day, and it shall be holy vnto the Lord. ²⁴ But in the yere of Iubely, the fyeld shal returne vnto hym of whom he bought it, whose enheritaunce of land it was. ²⁵ And al settynges shal be accordyng to the holy sycle. One sycle maketh .xx. Geras. ²⁶ But the fyrst borne of the beastes that pertayne vnto the Lorde, maye no man sanctify: whether it be oxe or shepe, for thei are the Lordes already. ²⁷ If it be an vncleane beaste, then lett hym redeme it as it is set at, & gyue the fyfte part more therto. If it be not redemed, then let it be sold as it is rated. ²⁸ Notwythstandynge no dedicated thynge that a man dedycateth vnto the Lorde, of all his good whether it be man or beast or lande of his enheritaunce, shalbe solde or redemed for all dedicate thynges are moste holy vnto the Lorde. ²⁹ No dedicate thynge therfore that is dedicate of man, may be redemed, but must nedes dye. ³⁰ All these tythes of the Lande, whether it be of the corne of the field or frute of the trees, shalbe holy vnto the Lord. ³¹ If anye man wil redeme ought of hys tythes, lette hym adde the fyfte parte more thereto. ³² And the tythes of oxen and sheepe and of all that goeth vnder the heardemans kepynge, shall be holye tythes vnto the Lorde. ³³ Men shall not loke if it be good or badde nor shall chaunge it. If any man chaunge it, then boeth it and that it was chaunged wythal, shal be holy & maye not be redemed. ³⁴ These are the commaundementes whyche the Lorde gaue Moses in charge to giue vnto the chyldren of Israell in mount Sinai.

² Then Israel vowed a vowe vnto the Lord & sayd: If thou wylte gyue thys people into oure handes, we wyll destroye theyr cyties.

³ If a damsell vowe a vowe vnto the Lord and bynde her selfe beyinge in her fathers house and vnmaried. ⁴ If her father heare her vowe & bond which she hath made vpon her soule, & holde hys peace therto: then all her vowes & bondes which she hath made vpon her soule shall stande in effecte.

¹⁰ If she vowed in her husbandes house or bounde her soule with an oth,

²¹ When thou hast vowed a vowe vnto the Lord thy God, se thou be not slacke to paye it. For he wyl surely requyre it of the, and it shalbe sinne vnto the. ²² If thou shalt leaue vowynge, it shalbe no synne vnto the: ²³ but that whych is once gone out of thy lyppes, thou must kepe and do, accordynge as thou hast vowed vnto the Lorde thy God of a frewyl which thou hast spoken with thy mouth.

¹¹ Then Iephthah went with the elders of Galaad. And the people made hym heade and ruler ouer them. And Iephthah rehersed all hys wordes in Mazphah.

³⁰ And Iephthah vowed a vowe vnto the Lorde and sayd: If thou shalt deliuer the children of Ammon into my handes, ³¹ then that thinge that cometh out of the dores of my house agaynst me, when I come home in peace, from the children of Ammon, shalbe the Lordes, and I wil offer it vp a burntoffering.

³⁵ And when he sawe her, he renth his clothes, & said: Alas my doughter, thou hast made me stoupe and art one of them, that trouble me. For I haue opened my mouth vnto the Lorde, & can not go backe. ³⁶ And she sayd vnto him: my father, yf thou haue opened thy mouth vnto the Lord, then do wyth me accordinge to that proceded out of thy mouthe, for as muche as the Lorde hath aduenged the of thyne enemyes the children of Ammon.

³⁹ And after the two monethes, she turned againe vnto her father, which dyd with her accordinge to his vowe, which he had vowed, & so she knewe no man. And it became an ordinaunce in Israell yere by yere,

²⁷ Then shalt thou make thy prayer vnto hym, and he shal heare the, and thou shalt kepe thy promises.

³ He that vseth no disceat in his tongue: he that doth no euell to hys neyghbour, & sclaundreth not hys neyghbours.

²⁵ I wyll prayse the in the great congregacion, and perfourme my vowes in the sighte of all them that feare the.

¹⁴ Offre vnto God prayse and thankesgeuynge, and paye thy vowes vnto the most hyest.

²⁰ Yea, they laye handes vpon such as be at peace with hym, & so they breake hys couenaunt.

¹² Vnto the (O god) wil I paye my vowes, vnto the wyll I geue thankes and prayse.

¹³ Therfore wyll I go into thy house wyth brentoffrynges, to paye the my vowes, ¹⁴ which I promysed with my lippes, and spake wyth my mouth, when I was in trouble.

¹¹ Loke what ye promise vnto the Lord your God, se that, ye kepe it, all ye that be rounde about him: brynge presentes vnto hym that ought to be feared.

¹⁴ I wyll paye my vowes in the presence of al his people,

¹⁸ I wyll paye my vowes vnto the Lord in the syght of al his people,

¹⁰⁶ I haue sworne and am stedfastly purposed, to kepe the iudgementes of thy righteousnesse.

²⁵ It is a snare for a man to to blaspheme that which is holy, and then to go aboute wyth vowes.

⁴ If thou make a vowe vnto God, be not slacke to perfourme it. As for folish vowes, he hath no pleasure in them. ⁵ If thou promise any thynge, paye it: for better it is that thou make no vowe then that thou shouldest promyse, and not paye.

¹⁵ Beholde, vpon the mountaynes come the fete of hym, that bryngeth good tydynges, and preacheth peace. O Iuda, kepe thy holy dayes, perfourme thy promyses: for Beliall shall come nomore in the, he is vtterly roted out.

³³ Agayne ye haue hearde how it was sayed to them of olde time, thou shalt not forsweare thy self, but shalt performe thine othe to God. ³⁴ But I saye vnto you, swere not at al, neither by heauen, for it is Goddes seate:

⁷ Wherefore he promysed with an othe, that he woulde geue her whatsoeuer she woulde axe. ⁸ And she beynge informed of her mother before sayd: geue me here Ihon Baptistes head in a platter. ⁹ And the king sorowed. Neuertheles for hys othe sake, & for theyr sakes that satte at also at the table, he commaunded it to be geuen her:

¹⁶ Wo be vnto you blynde guydes, whyche say whosoeuer sweare by the temple, it is nothing, but whosoeuer sweared by the golde of the temple: he offendeth.

¹⁸ And whosoeuer sweareth by the aultare, it is nothynge: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offeryng that lyeth on the aulter, offendeth.

¹² When daye was come, certayne of the Iewes gathered them selues together, & made a vowe, saiynge, that they woulde neyther eate nor drynke, tyll they had kylled Paul.

⁴ For God commaunded saying: honoure thy father and mother, and he that curseth father or mother shall suffre death. ⁵ But ye saye, euery man shal say to hys father or mother: that which thou desirest of me to helpe the with: is geuen to God, ⁶ and so shall he not honour hys father or mother. And thus haue ye made, that the commaundement of God is without effecte, thorow your tradicions.

¹ Chyldren obeye youre fathers and mothers in the Lorde: for so is it ryght.

¹⁶ And vnto the woman he said: I wyl suerly encrease thy sorow, and make the oft with chylde, & with payne shalt thou be deliuered: And thy lustes shall pertayne vnto thy husband, and he shal rule the.

⁴ The wyfe hath not power ouer her owne bodie, but the husbande. And lykewyse the man hath not power ouer his owne bodye, but the wyfe.

³⁴ Let your wyues kepe silence in the congregations. For it is not permitted vnto them to speake: but let them be vnder obedience, as sayeth the lawe.

²² Women submitte youre selues vnto your owne husbandes, as vnto the Lorde. ²³ For the husbande is the wyues head, euen as Christe is the heade of the congregation, and the same is the sauiour of the body. ²⁴ Therfore as the congregation is in subieccion to Christe, lykewyse let the wyues be in subieccion to theyr husbandes in all thynges.

⁷ They shall take no wyfe that is an whoore or poluted, or put from her husbande: for a preast is holy vnto his God.

³⁷ And she had bene a weddowe aboute .iiij. score and .iiij. yeares, which went neuer out of the temple, but serued God with fastinge and prayer night & daye.

² For the woman whiche is in subiection to a man, is bounde by the lawe to the man as longe as he liueth. If the man be dead, she is lowsed from the lawe of the man.

²⁵ And the priest shal make an atonement for al the multitude of the children of Israel, & it shalbe forgeuen them for it was ignoraunce. And they shall brynge theyr giftes vnto the offeringe of the Lorde and their synne offeryng before the Lorde for theyr ignoraunce.

²⁸ And the prieste shall make an attonemente for the soule that synned ignorauntly wyth the sinofferynge before the Lord, and reconcyle hym, and it shalbe forgeuen hym.

⁵ But & yf her father forbyd her the same daye that he heareth it, none of her vowes nor bondes whych she hath made vpon her soule shalbe of value, & the Lorde shall forgeue her, because her father forbade her.

³ I woulde you knewe that Christ is the heade of euery man. And the man is the womans heade. And God is Christes heade.

²⁹ And this shalbe an ordynaunce for euer vnto you. And euen in the tenth day of the seuenth moneth, ye shall humble youre soules and shall do no worke at all: whether it be one of youre selues or a straunger that soiourneth among you,

²⁷ also the tenth day of the self seuenth moneth, is a day of an attonement, and shalbe on holy feast vnto you, and ye shal humble youre soules and offer sacrifyce vnto the Lorde.

³² A Sabboth of reste it shalbe vnto you and ye shall humble youre soules. The .ix. daye of the moneth at euen and so forth from euen to euen agayne, ye shall kepe your sabboth.

⁷ And the tenth daye of that same seuenth moneth shalbe an holy feast vnto you, & ye shall humble youre soules and shall doo no maner worke therin.

²¹ And euen there at the water besyde Ahaua, caused I a fastynge to be proclamed, that we myghte humble oure selues before oure God, to seke of him a ryght waye for vs, and oure chyldren and all oure substaunce.

¹³ Neuerthelesse, when they were sycke, I put on a sacke cloth: I humbled my soule with fastyng, and my prayer turned into myne owne bosome.

⁵ Thyncke ye this fast pleaseth me, that a man shoulde chasten him self for a daye, and to writhe his head aboute lyke an hoke in an hearry cloth, and to lye vpon the earth? Shoulde that be called fasting, or a daye that pleaseth the Lord.

⁵ Withdrawe not your selues one from another, excepte it be wyth consente for a tyme, for to geue your selues to fastinge, and prayer. And afterward come agayne to the same thinge, leste Sathan tempte you for your incontinencye.

⁹ Neither was the man created for the womans sake: but the woman for the mannes sake.

¹ Lykewyse let the wyues be in subiectyon to theyr husbandes, that euen they which beleue not the worde, maye wythoute the worde be wonne by the conuersation of the wiues: ² whyle they beholde your pure conuersacion coupled wyth feare. ³ Whose apparell shall not be outewarde wyth broyeded heare, and hangynge on of golde, other in puttynge on of gorgyous apparell: ⁴ but let the hyd man of the harte be vncorrupte with a meke and a quyete spyryte, whiche spyryte is before God a thynge muche set by. ⁵ For after thys maner in the olde tyme dyd the holye women whiche trusted in God, tyer them selues, and were obedyente to theyr husbandes ⁶ euen as Sara obeyed Abraham, and called hym Lorde: whose doughters ye are as longe as ye do well, and be not afrayde of euerye shadowe.

¹ When a Soule hath synned and hearde the voyce of cursynge, and is a wytnesse: whether he hath sene or knowne of it, if he haue not vttered it, he shal bere hys synne.

²⁸ Nowe is there no Iewe neyther gentyle, ther is neyther bonde nor free: there is neyther man nor woman, but ye are all one thyng in christ Iesu.

⁴⁶ This is the lawe of beest & foule & of al maner thyng that lyueth and moueth in the water & of all thynges that crepe vpon the erth, ⁴⁷ that ye may put difference betwene vncleane & cleane, & betwene the beastes that are eaten and the beastes that are not eaten.

⁵⁹ Thys is the lawe of the plage of leprosye in a cloth whether it be wollen or linen: eyther whether it be in the warpe or woofe, or in any thynge made of skynnes, to iudge it cleane or vncleane.

⁵⁴ Thys is the lawe of al maner plage of leprosye and breakyng out, ⁵⁵ and of the leprosye of cloth and house: ⁵⁶ and of rysynges, scabbes and glysterynge whyte, ⁵⁷ to teache when a thyng is vncleane or cleane. This is the law of leprosye.

³² Thys is the law of hym that hath a runnyng sore, & of him whose seed runneth from him in his slepe & is defiled therwith, ³³ and of her that hath an yssue of bloud as longe as she is put a parte, and of whosoeuer hath a runnyng sore whether it be man or woman, and of hym that slepeth wyth her that is vncleane.

²⁹ This is the lawe of ielousye, when a wife goeth asyde behynde her husband and is defyled, ³⁰ or when the spirite of ielousye cometh vpon a man, so that he is ielouse ouer hys wyfe then he shal bryng her before the Lorde, and the Preast shall ministre all thys lawe vnto her,
