²⁷ My sonne, heare nomore the doctrine that leadeth the awaye from the wordes of vnderstandyng.

¹ If there aryse amonge you a Prophete or a dreamer of dreames, and gyue the a sygne or a wonder, ² and that signe or wonder whyche he hath said come to passe and then say: let vs go after straunge Goddes whyche thou hast not knowne and let vs serue them: ³ herken not vnto the wordes of the prophete, or dreamer of dreames. For the Lord thy God tempteth you to wete whether ye loue the Lord your God wt all youre hertes & wyth all your soules. ⁴ For ye muste walke after the Lord your God & feare him & kepe hys commaundementes & herken vnto his voyce, & serue him & cleaue vnto him.

²² And the Lorde saide: wherwyth? And he saide: I wil go out and be a false spirit in the mouthes of all his Prophetes. ⁷ Se that thou meddle not with a foole, and do as though thou haddest no knowledge.

¹⁵ Beware of false Prophetes, whiche come to you in shepes clothing, but inwardly they are rauenynge wolues.

⁶ Then Iesus sayd vnto them: Take hede and beware of the leuen of the Phariseis and of the Saduces.

⁶ He aunswered and sayde vnto them: well prophecied Esayas of you hypocrites, as it is wryten: This people honoureth me with theyr lippes, but their hert is farre from me: ⁷ In vayne they worship me, teachynge doctrines whyche are nothyng but the commaundementes of men. ⁸ For ye laye the commaundement of God apart, and obserue the tradicions of men, as the washyng of cruses and of cuppes, and many other suche lyke thinges ye do. ⁹ And he sayde vnto them: wel, ye caste aside the commaundement of God too maintayne your owne tradicions. ¹⁰ For Moyses sayd: Honour thy father and thy mother: and whosoeuer curseth father or mother, let him dye for it. ¹¹ But ye saye a man shall saye to father or mother Corban: whiche is, that thou desirest me to helpe the with, is geuen God. ¹² And so ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother, ¹³ makynge the worde of God of none effect, thorowe youre owne tradicions, which you haue ordeyned. And many suche thinges ye do. ¹⁴ And he called all the people vnto hym, and sayde to them. Herken to me, euery one of you and vnderstande.

⁵ A straunger they wyll not folowe, but wyll flye from hym, for they know not the voyce of straungers.

¹³ For these false Apostles are disceytfull workers, and fashyon them selues lyke vnto the Apostles of Christe. ¹⁴ And no maruail for Satan hym selfe is chaunged into the fashyon of an angell of lyghte. ¹⁵ Therfore it is no greate thynge, thoughe hys mynysters fashyon them selues as thoughe they were the mynisters of rightuousnes, whose end shalbe accordynge to theyr dedes.

¹⁴ That we henceforth be no more chyldren, waueringe and caryed wyth euerye wynde of doctryne, by the wylynes of men and craftynes, wherby they laye awayte for vs to deceyue vs.

⁷ But cast awaye vnghostly and olde wyues fables. Exercyse thy selfe vnto Godlynes.

³ These thynges teache and exhorte. Yf any man teache otherwyse, and is not contente wt the holsome wordes of our Lord Iesus christ, and wyth the doctryne of Godlynes, ⁴ he is puft vp, and knoweth nothyng: but wasteth hys braynes about questyons and stryfe of wordes, whereof sprynge enuye, stryfe, raylynges, euyll surmysynges ⁵ and vayne disputacyons of men wyth corrupte myndes, and destytute of the trueth, whiche thynke that lucre is Godlines, from suche separate thy self.

¹ There were false prophetes among the people, euen as there shalbe false teachers amonge you, which priuilie shal bringe in damnable sectes, euen denyenge the Lorde that hath bought them and bringe vpon them selues swyft dampnacion, ² and many shal folowe theyr damnable wayes, by whiche the way of trueth shalbe euyl spoken of,

¹ Ye beloued, beleue not euery spirite, but proue the spirites whether they be of God, or not, for manye false prophetes are gone out into the world.

¹⁰ Yf there come any vnto you, and bringe not this learninge, him receiue not to house, neither byd hym God spede.

² I knowe thy workes, and thy laboure, & thy pacience, and howe thou cannest not forbeare them, whyche are euyl, and examinedst them which saye they are Apostles and are not, & hast found them lyars
