²⁹ Punishmentes are ordeyned for the scornefull, and strypes for fooles backes.

³⁴ As for the scornefull, he shall laugh them to scorne, but he shal geue grace vnto the lowly.

²² Immediatly he folowed her, as it were an oxe led to the slaughter (& lyke as it were to the stockes, where foles are punyshed)

¹² If thou be wyse thy wysdome shall do thy selfe good: but if thou thynckeste scorne therof, it shalbe thyne owne harme.

¹³ In the lyppes of hym that hath vnderstandynge a man shall fynde wysdome, but the rod belongeth to the backe of the folysh.

²² And therfore make no mockes at it, that youre captiuite increase not: for I haue hearde the Lorde of Hostes saye, that there shall come a soden destruccyon & plage vpon the whole earthe.

²⁰ Then shall the furyous people ceasse, and the mockers shalbe put awaye, and all they that do wronge shalbe plucked oute,

⁴⁰ Beware therfore leste that fall on you, whiche is spoken of in the Prophetes: ⁴¹ Beholde ye despysers, and wonder, and peryshe ye: for I do a worke in your dayes, whiche ye shall not beleue, yf a man woulde declare it you.

⁶ For whom the Lord loueth, hym he chasteneth: yea, and he scourgeth euerye sonne that he receyueth.

³ This fyrst vnderstande, that there shall come in the laste dayes mockers, which wyll walke after their own lustes ⁴ and say. Where is the promes of hys comminge? For sence the fathers dyed, al thinges continue in the same estate, wherin they were at the beginninge. ⁵ This they knowe not (and that willinglie) howe that the heauens a greate whyle ago were, & the earth that was in the water, appered vp out of the water by the worde of God, ⁶ by the which thinges, the worlde that then was, perished ouer flowen with the water. ⁷ But the heauens verely and earth, which are now are kept by the same worde in store, and reserued vnto fyre, agaynste the daye of iudgemente, and perdycyon of vngodlye men.
