¹⁴ This peoples teth are swerdes, and with their chafte bones they consume and deuour the simple of the earth, and the poore from among men.

¹⁷ I brake the chaftes of the vnrighteous, and plucte the spoyle oute of their tethe.

⁷ Vp Lorde, and helpe me O my God for thou smitest al mine enemyes vpon the cheke bones and breakest the teeth of the vngodly.

⁸ He sytteth lurckynge in the gardens, that he may pryuely murther the innocente, hys eyes are set vpon the poore. ⁹ He lyeth waytynge secretlye, as ti were a lyon in hys denne. He lurketh that he maye rauyshe the pore, yea, to rauysh the poore, when he hath gotten him into hys net.

⁵ Now for the troubles sake of the oppressed, and because of the complainte of the poore I will vp (sayeth the Lord) I wil helpe them, & set them at rest.

⁴ How can they haue vnderstandinge, that worke mischiefe, eatynge vp my people, as it were bread, & call not vpon the Lord?

² Thy tonge ymagyneth wyckednesse, and with lyes it cutteth like a sharpe rasoure.

⁴ I lye wyth my soule among the cruel lions euen among the chyldren of men, whose teeth are speares and arrowes, and their tonge a sherpe sweard.

⁶ Breake their teeth (O god) in their mouthes, smite the chaft bones of the lions whelpes in sonder, O Lord.

¹⁸ A sclaunderous personne pricketh like a swerd, but a wise mans tonge is wholsome.

¹⁶ Who so doth a pore man wrong to increase his owne riches, geueth (commenly) vnto the rych, & at the last commeth to pouerte him selfe.

³ One pore man oppressinge another by uiolence is lyke a continuall rayne that destroieth the fruyte.

¹ So I turned me, & considred al the violent wrong that is done vnder the sunne: & beholde, the teares of such as were oppressed, & there was no man to comforte them or that wolde deliuer & defende them from the violence of their oppressours.

⁷ These are the perlous weapons of the couetous, these be hys shamefull councels: that he maye begyle the poore with disceatfull workes, yea euen there as he shuld geue sentence with the poore.

⁵ Beholde, the seconde beaste was lyke a beer & stode vpon the one syde. Amonge his teeth in his mouth he had .iij. greate longe teeth, & it was sayde vnto him: Aryse: eate vp, much fleshe. ⁶ Then I loked, and beholde, there was another lyke vnto a leoparde: thys had wynges as a foule, euen four vpon the backe. This beaste had foure heades, and there was power geuen him. ⁷ After this I sawe in a vision by night, and beholde, the fourthe beast was grymme and horrible, and maruelous strong. It had great yron teeth, it deuoured and destroyed, and stamped the resydue vnder hys fete. It was farre vnlyke the other beastes, that were before it: for it had ten hornes, whereof I toke good hede.

⁷ They treade vpon poore mens heades, in the duste of the earthe, & croke the wayes of the meke. The sonne and the father go to the harlot, to dyshonoure thy holye name,

¹ O heare thys worde ye fat kyne, that be vpon the hil of Samaria: ye that do poore men wronge, and oppresse the nedy: ye that saye to your Lordes: bring hyther, let vs drincke.

⁴ Heare this, O ye that oppresse the poore, and destroye the nedy in the lande, saying:

¹ O wo vnto them, that Imagyn to do harme, & deuyse vngracyousnesse vpon their beddes, to perfourme it in the cleare daye: for there power is agaynst God. ² When they couet to haue lande, they take it by vyolence, they robbe men of their houses. Thus they oppresse a man for his house, & euery man for hys heretage.

¹ Heare, O ye heades of the house of Iacob, & peleders of the house of Israel: Shulde not ye know what were lawfull and ryght? ² But ye hate the good, and loue the euell: ye plucke of mennes skynnes, and the flesh from their bones: ³ ye eate the flesh of my people, and slay of their skynne: ye breake their bones, ye choppe them in peces as it were in to a cauldron, and as flesh into a pot. ⁴ Now the tyme shall come, that when they call vnto the Lorde, he shall not heare them, but hyde hys face from them, because that thorowe their owne Imaginacyons they haue dealte so wyckedly. ⁵ And as concernynge the prophetes that disceyue my people, thus the Lorde sayeth agaynst them: When they haue enye thynge to byte vpon, then they preach that all shalbe well: but yf a man put not some thynge is to their mouthes, they preach of warre agaynst hym.

¹⁴ Thou cursest hys scepters, the captayne of men of warre: whiche come as a stormy wind to scatre me abroade, and are glad when they maye eate vp the poore secretely.

³ Her rulers within her are as roaryng lyons: her iudges are as wolues in the euenynge, which leaue nothynge behynde them tyll the morowe.

¹³ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, for ye shut vp the kyngdome of heauen before men: ye youre selues go not in, neyther suffer ye them that come to enter in.

¹ Go to nowe ye ryche men. Weepe, and howle on your wretchednes that shal come vpon you. ² Youre ryches is corrupte youre garmentes are motheaten. ³ Your gold and your siluer are cankered, & the ruste of them shal be a witnes vnto you, and shall eate your fleshe, as it were fyre. Ye haue heaped treasure together in your laste dayes: ⁴ Beholde the hyre of the labourers which haue reped doun your fieldes (which hyer is of you kept backe by fraude) crieth: & the cryes of them whiche haue reped, are entred into the eares of the Lorde Sabaoth

⁸ And they had heere as the heere of women. And theyr teeth were as the teeth of Lyons.
