The LORD said to David, "Go strike the Philistines, and save Keilah." ³ David's men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?" ⁴ Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. The LORD answered him, and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand." ⁵ David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah. ⁶ It happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David, that he went down with David to Keilah, having an ephod in his hand. ⁷ Now it was told Saul that David had come to Keilah. So Saul said, "God has sold him into my hand, for he has shut himself in by entering into a town that has gates and bars." ⁸ Then Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men. ⁹ David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." ¹⁰ Then David said, "LORD, God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake. ¹¹ And now, will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? LORD, God of Israel, tell your servant." And the LORD said, "He will come down." ¹² Then David said, "Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" The LORD said, "They will deliver you up." ¹³ Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went wherever they could go. And Saul was told that David had escaped Keilah; so he gave up the pursuit. ¹⁴ David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but the LORD did not deliver him into his hand. ¹⁵ Now David was afraid that Saul had come out to seek his life. And David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. ¹⁶ Jonathan, Saulʼs son, set out and came to David at Horesh and encouraged him in the LORD. ¹⁷ He said to him, "Do not be afraid; for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you; and you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you; and that also Saul my father knows." ¹⁸ They both made a covenant before the LORD: and David stayed at Horesh, and Jonathan went to his house. ¹⁹ Then the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, "Doesnʼt David hide himself with us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hakilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon? ²⁰ Now therefore, O king, come down, according to all the desire of your soul to come down. It will be our responsibility to deliver him up into the king's hand." ²¹ Saul said, "You are blessed by the LORD; for you have had compassion on me. ²² Please go investigate again, and look around and learn the place where his swift foot is, for I am told that he is very clever. ²³ See therefore, and find out all the hiding places where he hides himself, and come back to me when you know for certain, and I will go with you. And it shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search for him among all the thousands of Judah." ²⁴ They arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of Jeshimon. ²⁵ Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon. ²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David was hurrying to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them. ²⁷ But a messenger came to Saul, saying, "Hurry and come; for the Philistines have made a raid on the land." ²⁸ So Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Rock of Divisions. ²⁹ David went up from there, and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.

¹⁶ I also will do this to you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away; and you will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it.

³³ The fruit of your ground, and all your labors, shall a nation which you do not know eat up; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed always;

⁵¹ and shall eat the fruit of your livestock, and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; that also shall not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.

⁴⁴ and Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages.

⁴ And they camped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, as far as Gaza, and they left no sustenance in Israel, as well as sheep, or ox, or donkey.

¹¹ The angel of the LORD came, and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained to Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

¹⁷ After him, the Levites made repairs: Rehum the son of Bani, and next to him, Hashabiah, he ruler of half the district of Keilah, made repairs for his district. ¹⁸ After him, their brothers, Binnui the son of Henadad, the ruler of half the district of Keilah made repairs.

¹⁵ You will sow, but won't reap. You will tread the olives, but won't anoint yourself with oil; and crush grapes, but won't drink the wine.

²¹ He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation."

¹⁴ The men sampled their provisions, and did not ask counsel from the mouth of the LORD.

¹ It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of the LORD, saying, "Who should go up first to fight for us against the Canaanites?"

⁴ Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. The LORD answered him, and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand."

⁶ It happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David, that he went down with David to Keilah, having an ephod in his hand.

⁹ David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." ¹⁰ Then David said, "LORD, God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake. ¹¹ And now, will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? LORD, God of Israel, tell your servant." And the LORD said, "He will come down." ¹² Then David said, "Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" The LORD said, "They will deliver you up."

⁸ David inquired of the LORD, saying, "If I pursue after this troop, shall I overtake them?" He answered him, "Pursue; for you shall surely overtake them, and shall without fail recover all."

¹⁹ David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?" The LORD said to David, "Go up; for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into your hand."

²³ And David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD said to him, "You shall not go up. Circle around behind them, and attack them opposite the balsam trees.

¹⁰ David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?" The LORD said to him, "Go up; for I will deliver them into your hand."

⁸ I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

²³ LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

¹⁵ Now David was afraid that Saul had come out to seek his life. And David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh.

²³ See therefore, and find out all the hiding places where he hides himself, and come back to me when you know for certain, and I will go with you. And it shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search for him among all the thousands of Judah."

²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David was hurrying to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. By David.] In the LORD, I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain."

⁵ "If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And though in a land of peace you are secure, yet how will you do in the pride of the Jordan?

⁷ and you shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.

³⁹ Gideon said to God, "Do not let your anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once. Please let me make one more test with the fleece; let it now be dry only on the fleece, and on all the ground let there be dew."

⁷ The LORD said to Gideon, "By the three hundred men who lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand; and let all the people go every man to his home."

⁶ When Saul inquired of the LORD, The LORD did not answer him, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

¹⁸ This is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.

³⁰ You are to put in the breastplate for judging the Urim and the Thummim; and they are to be over Aaronʼs heart, when he goes in before the LORD. And Aaron will carry the means to make decisions for the children of Israel over his heart before the LORD continually. ³¹ "You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

³ and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of the LORD in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. The people did not know that Jonathan was gone.

¹⁸ And Saul said to Ahijah, "Bring near the ephod," for he wore the ephod at that time before Israel.

³⁶ Saul said, "Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them." They said, "Do whatever seems good to you." Then the priest said, "Let us draw near here to God." ³⁷ Saul asked counsel of God, "Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?" But he did not answer him that day.

²⁰ One of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.

³ Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, 'They are wandering in the land. The wilderness has boxed them in.'

⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the spoil. My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'

² And it was reported to the Gazites, saying, "Samson is here." They surrounded him, and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city, and were quiet all night, saying, "Wait until morning light, then we will kill him." ³ Now Samson rested until midnight, but got up at midnight and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and pulled them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is overlooking Hebron, and set them down there.

¹⁴ David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but the LORD did not deliver him into his hand.

⁴ The men of David said to him, "Look, the day of which the LORD said to you, 'Look, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.'" Then David arose, and cut off an edge of Saul's robe secretly. ⁵ It happened afterward, that David's heart struck him, because he had cut off an edge of Saul's robe. ⁶ He said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the LORD's anointed, to put forth my hand against him, since he is the LORD's anointed."

⁸ Then Abishai said to David, "God has delivered up your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time." ⁹ David said to Abishai, "Do not destroy him; for who can put forth his hand against the LORD's anointed, and be guiltless?"

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?

¹⁰ For my enemies talk about me. Those who watch for my soul conspire together, ¹¹ saying, "God has forsaken him. Pursue and take him, for no one will rescue him."

⁴³ For the days will come on you, when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side, ⁴⁴ and will dash you and your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."

⁷ David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Please bring me here the ephod." Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

¹⁸ The LORD gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it: then you showed me their doings. ¹⁹ But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I did not know that they had devised devices against me, saying, "Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered."

³ 'Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and hidden things, which you do not know.'

²⁴ but their plot became known to Saul. They watched the gates both day and night that they might kill him,

⁶ they became aware of it, and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, Derbe, and the surrounding region.

¹⁶ But Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, and he came and entered into the barracks and told Paul. ¹⁷ Paul summoned one of the centurions, and said, "Bring this young man to the commanding officer, for he has something to tell him." ¹⁸ So he took him, and brought him to the commanding officer, and said, "Paul, the prisoner, summoned me and asked me to bring this young man to you, who has something to tell you."

²⁴ What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you sweep it away and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?

¹⁹ He struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing babies, and cattle and donkeys and sheep.

⁸ Then Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

⁶ But he scorned the thought of laying hands on Mordecai alone, for they had made known to him Mordecai's people. Therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Achashyerosh, even Mordecai's people.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.

¹⁵ "Their feet are swift to shed blood. ¹⁶ Destruction and calamity are in their paths.

¹⁵ Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

⁷ "Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. ⁸ For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

⁷ Now it was told Saul that David had come to Keilah. So Saul said, "God has sold him into my hand, for he has shut himself in by entering into a town that has gates and bars."

²⁰ Now therefore, O king, come down, according to all the desire of your soul to come down. It will be our responsibility to deliver him up into the king's hand."

⁸ You have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy. You have set my feet in a large place.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. To Jeduthan. A Psalm by David.] My soul rests in God alone, for my salvation is from him.

⁸ It is better to take refuge in the LORD, than to put confidence in man.

¹⁴ There was a little city, and few men within it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great siege works against it. ¹⁵ Now a poor wise man was found in it, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.

¹⁵ Woe to those who deeply hide their counsel from the LORD, and whose works are in the dark, and who say, "Who sees us?" and "Who knows us?"

¹³ There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

² Everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented, gathered themselves to him; and he became captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

¹³ David said to his men, "Every man put on his sword." So every man put on his sword. David also put on his sword. About four hundred men followed David; and two hundred stayed by the baggage.

⁹ So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the Wadi Besor, where those who were left behind stayed. ¹⁰ But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn't cross the Wadi Besor.

²⁰ You came only yesterday. Should I today make you wander about with us, since I go I know not where? Go back, and take your brothers with you, and may the LORD show you kindness and truth."

¹ David said in his heart, "I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me except that I escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand."

¹ [For the Chief Musician. By David.] In the LORD, I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain." ² For, look, the wicked bend their bows. They set their arrows on the strings, that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. ³ If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?

⁷ You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

³² The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to kill him. ³³ The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

³ For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven't set God before them. Selah. ⁴ Look, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul.

¹⁶ for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

¹⁶ For they do not sleep, unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

²⁶ The king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but the LORD hid them.

³¹ What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹¹ persecutions, and sufferings: those things that happened to me at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. I endured those persecutions. Out of them all the Lord delivered me.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the non-Jewish people might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me for his heavenly Kingdom; to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

²⁸ But commission Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see."

⁶ David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

¹⁸ I told them of the hand of my God which was good on me, as also of the king's words that he had spoken to me. They said, "Let's rise up and build." So they strengthened their hands for the good work.

³ Look, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Your words have supported him who was falling, You have made firm the feeble knees.

⁵ but I would strengthen you with my mouth. The solace of my lips would relieve you.

⁹ Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man's friend.

¹⁷ Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend's countenance.

⁹ Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. ¹⁰ For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn't have another to lift him up. ¹¹ Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one keep warm alone? ¹² If a man prevails against one who is alone, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

³ Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. ⁴ Tell those who have a fearful heart, "Be strong. Do not be afraid. Look, your God will come with vengeance, God's retribution. He will come and save you.

²² Because with lies you have grieved the heart of the righteous, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, and be saved alive:

³² but I prayed for you, that your faith would not fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers."

⁴³ And an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.

¹⁰ Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.

¹ You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

¹² Therefore, lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees, ¹³ and make straight paths for your feet, so that which is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, your kingdom will not be established. Therefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die."

²⁰ Now, look, I know that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

¹¹ so that he sets up on high those who are low, those who mourn are exalted to safety. ¹² He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands can't perform their enterprise. ¹³ He traps the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of the cunning are brought to a quick end. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night. ¹⁵ But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

¹ [By David.] The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. ³ Though an army is deployed against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. By the sons of Korah. According to Alamoth.] God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. ² Therefore we won't be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas;

¹ He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of Shaddai. ² I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust."

²⁶ In the fear of the LORD is a secure fortress, and he will be a refuge for his children.

²¹ There are many plans in a man's heart, but the LORD's counsel will prevail.

¹⁰ Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

¹⁴ Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel. I will help you," says the LORD, "and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁷ No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness which is of me," says the LORD.

³² Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.

³⁹ But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them, and you would be found even to be fighting against God."

¹⁶ When we entered into Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who guarded him.

²⁴ whenever I journey to Spain I will come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while.

⁶ So we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can humans do to me?"

³ Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

¹² Jonathan said to David, "The LORD, the God of Israel, is witness. When I have studied my father, about this time tomorrow, or the third day, look, if there is good toward David, shall I not then send to you, and disclose it to you? ¹³ God do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do you evil, if I do not disclose it to you, and send you away, that you may go in peace. And may the LORD be with you, as he has been with my father. ¹⁴ And if I am still alive, deal loyally with me. But if I die, ¹⁵ do not cut off your loyalty from my house forever. And when the LORD cuts off the enemies of David, each one from the face of the earth, ¹⁶ if the name of Jonathan be cut off from the house of David, then may the LORD require it at the hand of the enemies of David." ¹⁷ And Jonathan swore to David again, because he loved him, for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

⁴² Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, because we have both sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, 'The LORD shall be between me and you, and between my descendants and your descendants, forever.'" He arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.

¹ David said, "Is there yet any who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?"

⁷ But the king spared Mippibaal, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

⁷ And he said to them, "Hear now, you Benjamites. Will the son of Jesse give everyone of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, ⁸ that all of you have conspired against me, and there is none who discloses to me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?"

¹ The Ziphites came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, "Doesn't David hide himself on the hill of Hakilah, which is before Jeshimon?"

³ Saul camped on the hill of Hakilah, which is before Jeshimon, near the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A contemplation by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, "Isn't David hiding himself among us?"] Save me, God, by your name. Vindicate me in your might. ² Hear my prayer, God. Listen to the words of my mouth. ³ For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven't set God before them. Selah. ⁴ Look, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul. ⁵ He will repay the evil to my enemies. Destroy them in your truth. ⁶ With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you. I will give thanks to your name, LORD, for it is good. ⁷ For he has delivered me out of all trouble. My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.

¹² If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.

⁶ If a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel, where he lives as a foreigner, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which the LORD shall choose;

¹² Then David said, "Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" The LORD said, "They will deliver you up."

²¹ Abner said to David, "I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your soul desires." David sent Abner away; and he left in peace.

¹¹ The men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹³ The two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him. The base fellows testified against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king." Then they carried him out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, "Naboth has been stoned, and is dead."

⁵ He who was over the household, and he who was over the city, the elders also, and those who raised the children, sent to Jehu, saying, "We are your servants, and will do all that you ask us. We will not make any man king. You do that which is good in your eyes." ⁶ Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, "If you are on my side, and if you will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men your master's sons, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time." Now the king's sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up. ⁷ It happened, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons, and killed them, even seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him to Jezreel.

³ For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven't set God before them. Selah.

¹⁰ The wicked will see it, and be grieved. He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away. The desire of the wicked will perish.

²³ The desire of the righteous is only good. The expectation of the wicked is wrath.

²⁶ Many seek the ruler's favor, but a man's justice comes from the LORD.

² And he said to his mother, "The eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse, and also spoke it in my ears, look, the silver is with me; I took it, but now I will restore it to you." And his mother said, "Blessed be my son by the LORD."

⁸ that all of you have conspired against me, and there is none who discloses to me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?"

³ For the wicked boasts of his heart's cravings, and he blesses the greedy, scorning the LORD.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: "Your brothers who hate you, who cast you out for my name's sake, have said, 'Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy;' but it is those who shall be disappointed.

¹¹ Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, "Isn't the LORD in the midst of us? No disaster will come on us."

¹³ He traps the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of the cunning are brought to a quick end.

³⁶ When it rested, he said, "Return, LORD, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel."

¹¹ But, I strongly advise as follows, that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that you personally go into battle. ¹² So shall we come on him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light on him as the dew falls on the ground; and of him and of all the men who are with him we will not leave so much as one. ¹³ Moreover, if he be gone into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there isn't one small stone found there."

¹⁰ As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom, where my lord has not sent to seek you. When they said, 'He is not here,' he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they did not find you.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, being small among the clans of Judah, out of you one will come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.

¹ It was now two days before the feast of the Passover and the unleavened bread, and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might seize him by deception, and kill him.

¹⁰ Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests, that he might deliver him to them. ¹¹ They, when they heard it, were glad, and promised to give him money. He sought how he might conveniently deliver him.

² Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. ³ Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

⁸ He struck them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and lived in the cleft of the rock of Etam.

²⁸ So Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Rock of Divisions.

¹² So Mikal let David down through the window. He went, fled, and escaped.

³⁸ Jonathan cried after the boy, "Go fast. Hurry. Do not delay." Jonathan's boy gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.

¹⁴ David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, "Arise, and let us flee; for else none of us shall escape from Absalom. Make speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil on us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword."

²¹ It happened, after they had departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David. And they said to him, "Arise and pass quickly over the water; for thus has Ahithophel counseled against you." ²² Then David arose, and all the people who were with him, and they passed over the Jordan. By the morning light there lacked not one of them who had not gone over the Jordan.

¹² Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do, but our eyes are on you."

⁹ from the wicked who oppress me, my deadly enemies, who surround me.

¹¹ They have tracked me down; suddenly they surround me. They watch closely, crouching down to the ground.

¹² Many bulls have surrounded me. Mighty ones of Bashan have encircled me.

¹⁶ For many dogs have surrounded me. A company of evildoers have enclosed me. They have pierced my hands and my feet.

²² As for me, I said in my haste, "I am cut off from before your eyes." Nevertheless you heard the voice of my petitions when I cried to you.

¹¹ They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me. In the name of the LORD I indeed cut them off. ¹² They surrounded me like bees. They blazed like a fire among thorns. In the name of the LORD I cut them off. ¹³ I was pushed hard, to make me fall, but the LORD helped me.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] Deliver me, LORD, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man; ² those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war. ³ They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper's poison is under their lips. Selah. ⁴ LORD, keep me from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the violent men who have determined to trip my feet. ⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah. ⁶ I said to the LORD, "You are my God." Listen to the cry of my petitions, LORD. ⁷ LORD, the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle. ⁸ LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked. Do not let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah. ⁹ As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

⁸ For we do not desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life.

⁹ They went up over the breadth of the earth, and surrounded the camp of the saints, and the beloved city, and fire came down out of heaven and devoured them.

¹⁴ Abraham called the name of that place Elohim Yireh. As it is said to this day, "On the mountain, God will provide."

³⁶ For the LORD will judge his people, and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their strength is gone and there is none remaining, confined or set free.

⁹ When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, "Look, he has come out to fight against you," he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

¹³ The Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

³ The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow.

¹⁶ The earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river which the serpent spewed out of his mouth.

⁷ They returned, and came to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and attacked all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that lived in Hazazon Tamar.

⁶² and Nibshan, and Ir Hamelach, and En Gedi; six cities with their villages.

¹ It happened, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, "Look, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi."

² Then some came who told Jehoshaphat, saying, "A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea from Edom. Look, they are in Hazazon Tamar" (that is, En Gedi).

¹⁴ My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms from the vineyards of En Gedi.

¹⁰ It shall happen, that fishermen shall stand by it: from En Gedi even to En Eglaim shall be a place for the spreading of nets; their fish shall be after their kinds, as the fish of the Great Sea, exceeding many.
