³⁰ that the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.

⁹ But they did not listen: and Manasseh seduced them to do that which is evil more than the nations did whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel.

⁸ The wicked walk on every side, when what is vile is exalted among the descendants of Adam.

² When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan. ³ Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father; but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth. ⁴ The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down. ⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. ⁶ An evil man is snared by his sin, but the righteous can sing and be glad. ⁷ The righteous is concerned about justice for the poor. The wicked does not understand the concern. ⁸ Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger. ⁹ If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man, the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace. ¹⁰ The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; and they seek the life of the upright. ¹¹ A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control. ¹² If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.

¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment; Because he is intent in his pursuit of idols.

¹¹ I have given you a king in my anger, and have taken him away in my wrath.

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you walk in their counsels. Therefore I will make you a desolation, and her inhabitants an object of contempt; and you will bear the scorn of the nations."

⁴ he who opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped; so that he sits in the temple of God, setting himself up as God. ⁵ Do you not remember that, when I was still with you, I told you these things? ⁶ Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. ⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness already works. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way. ⁸ Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth, and destroy by the manifestation of his coming; ⁹ even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deception of wickedness for those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God sends them a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,

³ One of his heads looked like it had been wounded fatally. His fatal wound was healed, and the whole earth was amazed and followed the beast. ⁴ They worshiped the serpent, because he gave his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

¹¹ I saw another beast coming up out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke like a serpent. ¹² He exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence. He makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. ¹³ He performs great signs, even making fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the sight of people. ¹⁴ He deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs he was granted to do in front of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who had been wounded by the sword and yet lived.
