Luke 23 Cross References - NHEB

1 The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate. 2 They began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is the Christ, a king." 3 Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "You say so." 4 Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, "I find no basis for a charge against this man." 5 But they insisted, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place." 6 But when Pilate heard it, he asked if the man was a Galilean. 7 When he found out that he was in Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days. 8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him. 9 He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers. 10 The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him. 11 Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate. 12 Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other. 13 Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, 14 and said to them, "You brought this man to me as one that subverts the people, and see, I have examined him before you, and found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him. 15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him. 16 I will therefore chastise him and release him." 17 (Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.) 18 But they all shouted out together, saying, "Away with this man. Release to us Barabbas" 19 (one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.) 20 Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus, 21 but they shouted, saying, "Crucify. Crucify him." 22 He said to them the third time, "Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him." 23 But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. And their voices, and those of the chief priests, prevailed. 24 Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done. 25 He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will. 26 When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and placed on him the cross, to carry it after Jesus. 27 A large crowd of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him. 28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For look, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.' 30 Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us,' and to the hills, 'Cover us.' 31 For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?" 32 There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death. 33 When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. 34 And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots. 35 The people stood watching. The rulers also scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his Chosen One." 36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar, 37 and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself." 38 An inscription was also written above him: "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS." 39 One of the criminals who hung there insulted him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us." 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." 42 And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom." 43 And he said to him, "Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise." 44 And it was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45 for the sun's light failed. And the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46 And Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." Having said this, he breathed his last. 47 When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous man." 48 All the crowds that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their breasts. 49 All his acquaintances, and the women who followed with him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. 50 And look, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man 51 (he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathea, a city of the Judeans, who was also waiting for the Kingdom of God: 52 this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 He took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and placed him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been placed. 54 It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near. 55 The women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was placed. 56 They returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Therefore the Jewish leaders said to him, "It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death," 32 that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die. 33 Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" 34 Jesus answered him, "Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?" 35 Pilate answered, "I'm not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?" 36 Jesus answered, "My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I would not be delivered to the Jewish leaders. But now my Kingdom is not from here." 37 Pilate therefore said to him, "Are you a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice." 38 Pilate said to him, "What is truth?" 3 After the second curtain was the tabernacle which is called the Holy of Holies, 4 having a golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which was a gold jar containing the manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; 5 and above it cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat, of which things we cannot speak now in detail. 6 Now these things having been thus prepared, the priests go in continually into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the services, 7 but into the second the high priest alone, once in the year, not without blood, which he offers for himself, and for the errors of the people. 8 The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place was not yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing;

Hebrews 10:19-22

19 Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the curtain, that is to say, his flesh; 21 and having a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water,

Psalms 31:5

5 Into your hands I commit my spirit. You redeem me, LORD, God of truth.

Matthew 27:46-56

46 Then at about three in the afternoon Jesus called out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lema shabachthani?" That is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" 47 Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, "This man is calling Elijah." 48 Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink. 49 The rest said, "Let him be. Let us see whether Elijah comes to save him." 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit. 51 And look, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 Now the centurion, and those who were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God." 55 Many women were there watching from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

Let us see whether Elijah comes to take him down." 37 Jesus gave a loud cry, and gave up the spirit. 38 The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. 39 And when the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God." 40 There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Josi, and Salome; 41 who, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.

Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top throughout. 24 Then they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be," that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, "They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot." Therefore the soldiers did these things. 25 But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 Therefore when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, "Woman, look, your son." 27 Then he said to the disciple, "Look, your mother." Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore and took away his body. 39 Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. 40 So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, according to Jewish burial practice. 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden. In the garden was a new tomb in which no one had ever yet been placed. 42 Then because of the Jewish Preparation Day (for the tomb was nearby) they put Jesus there.
