2 and the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron your brother, not to come at all times into the Most Holy Place within the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark; lest he die: for I will appear in the cloud on the mercy seat. 3 "Herewith shall Aaron come into the sanctuary: with a young bull for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering. 4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches on his body, and shall put on the linen sash, and he shall be dressed with the linen turban. They are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water, and put them on. 5 He shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering. 6 "Aaron shall offer the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house. 7 He shall take the two goats, and set them before the LORD at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 8 Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat. 9 Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for the LORD, and offer him for a sin offering. 10 But the goat, on which the lot fell for the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make atonement for him, to send him away for the scapegoat into the wilderness. 11 "Aaron shall present the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and shall kill the bull of the sin offering which is for himself. 12 He shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and two handfuls of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil: 13 and he shall put the incense on the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the testimony, so that he will not die. 14 He shall take some of the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times. 15 "Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with his blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat: 16 and he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins; and so he shall do for the Tent of Meeting, that dwells with them in the midst of their uncleanness. 17 There shall be no one in the Tent of Meeting when he enters to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, and has made atonement for himself and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel. 18 "He shall go out to the altar that is before the LORD and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the bull's blood, and some of the goat's blood, and put it around on the horns of the altar. 19 He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and make it holy from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

15 The LORD your God will raise up to you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him. 16 This is according to all that you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, "Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die." 17 The LORD said to me, "They have well said that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. 19 It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will call him to account.

Psalms 2:1-12

1 Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed: 3 "Letʼs tear off their shackles, and throw off their ropes from us." 4 The one who sits in the heavens laughs. The LORD scoffs at them. 5 Then he will speak to them in his anger, and terrify them in his wrath: 6 "But I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain." 7 I will tell of the decree. The LORD said to me, "You are my son. Today I have become your father. 8 Ask of me, and I will give the nations as your inheritance, and the farthest parts of the earth for your possession. 9 You shall rule them with an iron scepter. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel." 10 Now therefore, you kings, be wise; receive correction, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Do homage in purity, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when his anger is suddenly kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

Psalms 22:1-31

1 [For the Chief Musician; set to "The Doe of the Morning." A Psalm by David.] My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? 2 My God, I cry in the daytime, but you do not answer; in the night season, and am not silent. 3 But you are holy, you who inhabit the praises of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in you. They trusted, and you delivered them. 5 They cried to you, and escaped. They trusted in you, and were not put to shame. 6 But I am a worm, and no man; scorned by people and despised by the people. 7 All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying, 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, since he delights in him." 9 But you brought me out of the womb. You made me trust at my mother's breasts. 10 I was thrown on you from my mother's womb. You are my God since my mother bore me. 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near. For there is none to help. 12 Many bulls have surrounded me. Mighty ones of Bashan have encircled me. 13 They open their mouths wide against me, like a lion tearing prey and roaring. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is melted within me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; and you have brought me into the dust of death. 16 For many dogs have surrounded me. A company of evildoers have enclosed me. They have pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I can count all of my bones. They look and stare at me. 18 They divide my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot. 19 But do not be far off, LORD. You are my help: hurry to help me. 20 Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog. 21 Save me from the lion's mouth. Yes, from the horns of the wild oxen, you have answered me. 22 I will declare your name to my brothers. In the midst of the assembly I will praise you. 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him. All you descendants of Jacob, glorify him. Revere him, all you descendants of Israel. 24 For he has not despised or detested the affliction of the afflicted, nor has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard. 25 Of you comes my praise in the great assembly. I will pay my vows before those who fear him. 26 The humble shall eat and be satisfied. They shall praise the LORD who seek after him. Let your hearts live forever. 27 Every part of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. 28 For the kingdom is the LORD's, and he is the ruler over the nations. 29 All the prosperous of the earth shall eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him; and my soul shall live for him. 30 Posterity shall serve him. Future generations shall be told about the Lord. 31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, for he has done it.

Psalms 40:6-8

6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. Whole burnt offering and sin offering you did not require. 7 Then I said, "Look, I have come. It is written about me in the scroll of a book; 8 to do your will, O God, I desired. And your Law is within my heart."

Psalms 69:1-36

1 [For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Lilies." By David.] Save me, God, for the waters have come up to my neck. 2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold. I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. 3 I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry. My eyes fail, looking for my God. 4 Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head. Those who want to cut me off, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty. I have to restore what I did not take away. 5 God, you know my foolishness. My sins aren't hidden from you. 6 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame because of me, LORD of hosts. Do not let those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, God of Israel. 7 Because for your sake I suffer insults. Shame has covered my face. 8 I have become a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's children. 9 For the zeal of your house consumes me. The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. 10 When I wept and I fasted, it brought me insults. 11 When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. 12 Those who sit in the gate talk about me. I am the song of the drunkards. 13 But as for me, my prayer is to you, LORD, in an acceptable time. God, in the abundance of your loving kindness, answer me in the truth of your salvation. 14 Deliver me out of the mire, and do not let me sink. Let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. 15 Do not let the flood waters overwhelm me, neither let the deep swallow me up. Do not let the pit shut its mouth on me. 16 Answer me, LORD, for your loving kindness is good. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, turn to me. 17 Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me speedily. 18 Draw near to my soul, and redeem it. Ransom me because of my enemies. 19 You know how I am insulted, and my shame, and my disgrace. My adversaries are all before you. 20 Insults have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; for comforters, but I found none. 21 They also gave me gall for my food. In my thirst, they gave me vinegar to drink. 22 Let their table before them become a snare, and a retribution, and a trap, and a stumbling block. 23 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they can't see, and make their backs weak continually. 24 Pour out your indignation on them. Let the fierceness of your anger overtake them. 25 Let their habitation be desolate, and let no one dwell in their tents. 26 For they persecute him whom you have wounded. They tell of the sorrow of those whom you have hurt. 27 Charge them with crime upon crime. Do not let them come into your righteousness. 28 Let them be blotted out of the Book of Life, and not be written with the righteous. 29 But I am in pain and distress. Let your salvation, God, protect me. 30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. 31 It will please the LORD better than an ox, or a bull that has horns and hoofs. 32 The humble will see it and rejoice. You who seek after God, let your heart live. 33 For the LORD hears the needy, and doesn't despise his captive people. 34 Let heaven and earth praise him; the seas, and everything that moves in them. 35 For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah. They shall settle there, and own it. 36 The children also of his servants shall inherit it. Those who love his name shall dwell in it.

Psalms 72:1-20

1 [By Solomon.] God, give the king your justice; your righteousness to the royal son. 2 He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice. 3 The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people. The hills bring the fruit of righteousness. 4 He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces. 5 They shall fear you while the sun endures; and as long as the moon, throughout all generations. 6 He will come down like rain on the mown grass, as showers that water the earth. 7 In his days, the righteous shall flourish, and abundance of peace, until the moon is no more. 8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, from the River to the farthest parts of the earth. 9 Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust. 10 The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. 11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him. 12 For he will deliver the needy when he cries; the poor, who has no helper. 13 He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy. 14 He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight. 15 And he shall live, and the gold of Sheba shall be given to him. Men shall pray for him continually. He shall bless him all day long. 16 There shall be abundance of grain throughout the land. Its fruit sways like Lebanon. Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field. 17 His name endures forever. His name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed by him. All nations will call him blessed. 18 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. 19 Blessed be his glorious name forever. Let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen. 20 This ends the prayers by David, the son of Jesse.

Psalms 88:1-18

1 [A Song. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "The Suffering of Affliction." A contemplation by Heman, the Ezrahite.] LORD, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you. 2 Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry. 3 For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol. 4 I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help, 5 set apart among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand. 6 You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. 7 Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah. 8 You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can't escape. 9 My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, LORD. I have spread out my hands to you. 10 Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah. 11 Is your loving kindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction? 12 Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? 13 But to you, LORD, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you. 14 LORD, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me? 15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted. 16 Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off. 17 They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me. 18 You have put lover and friend far from me, and my friends into darkness.

Psalms 109:4-20

4 In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer. 5 They have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. 6 Set a wicked man over him. Let an adversary stand at his right hand. 7 When he is judged, let him come forth guilty. Let his prayer be turned into sin. 8 Let his days be few. Let another take his office. 9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. 10 Let his children be wandering beggars. Let them be sought from their ruins. 11 Let the creditor seize all that he has. Let strangers plunder the fruit of his labor. 12 Let there be none to extend kindness to him, neither let there be any to have pity on his fatherless children. 13 Let his posterity be cut off. In the generation following let their name be blotted out. 14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the LORD. Do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out. 15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth; 16 because he did not remember to show kindness, but persecuted the poor and needy man, the broken in heart, to kill them. 17 Yes, he loved cursing, and it came to him. He did not delight in blessing, and it was far from him. 18 He clothed himself also with cursing as with his garment. It came into his inward parts like water, like oil into his bones. 19 Let it be to him as the clothing with which he covers himself, for the belt that is always around him. 20 This is the reward of my adversaries from the LORD, of those who speak evil against my soul.

Psalms 110:1-7

1 [A Psalm by David.] The LORD says to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." 2 The LORD will send forth the rod of your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of your enemies. 3 Your people offer themselves willingly on the day of your power. On the holy mountains at sunrise the dew of your youth will be yours. 4 The LORD has sworn, and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek." 5 The LORD is at your right hand. He will crush kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He will judge among the nations. He will heap up dead bodies. He will shatter the head throughout a vast territory. 7 He will drink of the brook in the way; therefore he will lift up his head.

1 A branch will come out of the stock of Jesse, and a shoot out of his roots will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. 3 His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; 4 but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. 5 Righteousness will be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his waist. 6 The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat; The calf and the young lion will graze together; and a little child will lead them. 7 The cow and the bear will graze. Their young ones will lie down together. The lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 The nursing child will play near a cobra's hole, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den. 9 They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. 10 And in that day there will be a root of Jesse, one who stands up to rule over the peoples; to him will the nations seek, and his resting place will be glorious.

Isaiah 40:1-11

1 "Comfort, comfort my people," says your God. 2 "Speak tenderly to Jerusalem; and call out to her that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins." 3 The voice of one who calls out in the wilderness, "Prepare the way of the LORD. Make his roads straight. 4 Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low, and the uneven will be made level, and the rough places a plain. 5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all humanity will see the salvation of God together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken." 6 The voice of one saying, "Cry." And I said, "What shall I cry?" "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of the field. 7 The grass withers, the flower fades, because the LORD's breath blows on it. Surely the people are like grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of the LORD stands forever." 9 You who tell good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength. Lift it up. Do not be afraid. Say to the cities of Judah, "Look, your God." 10 Look, the LORD will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him. Look, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.

And he won't extinguish a dimly burning wick. He will faithfully bring justice. 4 He will not grow dim or be crushed, until he has established justice on the earth, and in his name the coastlands will hope."

Isaiah 49:1-8

1 Listen, islands, to me; and listen, you peoples, from far: the LORD has called me from the womb; from the body of my mother has he made mention of my name: 2 and he has made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand, he has hidden me; and he has made me a polished arrow, in his quiver has he kept me close: 3 and he said to me, "You are my servant; Israel, in whom I will be glorified." 4 But I said, "I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely the justice due to me is with the LORD, and my reward with my God." 5 Now says the LORD who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, and that Israel be gathered to him; for I am honorable in the eyes of the LORD, and my God has become my strength. 6 And he says, "It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel; I will also give you as a light to the nations, that you may bring salvation to the farthest part of the earth." 7 Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to the one who is despised, to the abhorred of the nation, the servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of the LORD who is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you." 8 Thus says the LORD, "In an acceptable time I have answered you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you; and I will preserve you, and give you as a covenant to the people, to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritage:

Isaiah 50:2-6

2 Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it can't redeem? or have I no power to deliver? Look, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stink, because there is no water, and die for thirst. 3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering." 4 The LORD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary: he wakens morning by morning, he wakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. 5 The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away backward. 6 I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who tore out my beard; I did not cover my face from insults and spitting.

Isaiah 52:13-53:12

13 Look, my servant shall deal wisely, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high.

Isaiah 61:1-3

1 The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and an opening of the eyes to the blind; 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

It shall be built again, with open spaces and a moat, but in times of distress. 26 After the sixty-two weeks the Messiah shall be cut off, and shall have nothing. And the people of a ruler who shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and his end shall come with a flood, and until the end there shall be war; desolations are decreed. 27 He shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease. They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek. 2 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, being small among the clans of Judah, out of you one will come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting. 3 Therefore he will abandon them until the time that she who is in labor gives birth. Then the rest of his brothers will return to the children of Israel. 4 He shall stand, and shall shepherd in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God: and they will live, for then he will be great to the farthest parts of the earth.

Zechariah 11:8-13

8 I cut off the three shepherds in one month; for my soul was weary of them, and their soul also loathed me. 9 Then I said, "I will not feed you. That which dies, let it die; and that which is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let those who are left eat each other's flesh." 10 I took my staff Favor, and cut it apart, that I might break my covenant that I had made with all the peoples. 11 It was broken in that day; and thus the poor of the flock that listened to me knew that it was the word of the LORD. 12 I said to them, "If you think it best, give me my wages; and if not, keep them." So they weighed for my wages thirty pieces of silver. 13 The LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter, the handsome price that I was valued at by them." I took the thirty pieces of silver, and threw them to the potter, in the house of the LORD.

Zechariah 12:10

10 I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of petition; and they will look to me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.

Malachi 3:1-3

1 "Look, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, look, he comes." says the LORD of hosts. 2 But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is coming like a refiner's fire, and like launderer's soap. 3 And he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer to the LORD offerings in righteousness.

Malachi 4:2-6

2 But to you who fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings. You will go out, and leap like calves of the stall. 3 You shall tread down the wicked; for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make," says the LORD of hosts. 4 "Remember the Law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and ordinances. 5 Look, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.

On the third day, he will rise again." 34 They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not understand the things that were said.

John 16:16-17

16 A little while, and you will no longer see me. Again a little while, and you will see me." 17 Some of his disciples therefore said to one another, "What is this that he says to us, 'A little while, and you won't see me, and again a little while, and you will see me;' and, 'Because I go to the Father?'"

John 17:11-13

11 I am no more in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them through your name which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name which you have given me, and I guarded them, and not one of them perished, except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to you, and I say these things in the world, that they may have my joy made full in themselves.

John 19:24-37

24 Then they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be," that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, "They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot." Therefore the soldiers did these things. 25 But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 Therefore when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, "Woman, look, your son." 27 Then he said to the disciple, "Look, your mother." From that hour, the disciple took her to his own home. 28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty." 29 A vessel full of sour wine was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished." He bowed his head, and gave up his spirit. 31 Therefore the Jewish leaders, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 Therefore the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him; 33 but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 However one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 He who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, that you may believe. 36 For these things happened, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "A bone of him will not be broken." 37 Again another Scripture says, "They will look on him whom they pierced."
