¹ Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, look, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, ² "Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him." ³ And when King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born. ⁵ And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet, ⁶ 'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come forth a ruler who will shepherd my people, Israel.'" ⁷ Then Herod secretly called the Magi, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared. ⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young child, and when you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him." ⁹ And they, having heard the king, went their way; and look, the star which they saw in the east went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was. ¹⁰ And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. ¹¹ And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. ¹² Being warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way. ¹³ Now when they had departed, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him." ¹⁴ And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt, ¹⁵ and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called my son." ¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the Magi, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the Magi. ¹⁷ Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, ¹⁸ "A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation and weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; and she would not be comforted, because they are no more." ¹⁹ But when Herod was dead, look, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, ²⁰ "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead." ²¹ And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. ²² But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee, ²³ and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he will be called a Nazorean.

³⁰ Their dwelling was from Mesha, as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.

⁶ and to the sons of Abraham's secondary wives, Abraham gave gifts. He sent them away from Isaac his son, while he was still living, eastward, to the east country.

¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the rulerʼs staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. And it is he whom the peoples will obey.

³⁰ Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the people of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt.

³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.

⁹ Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust. ¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. ¹¹ Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him. ¹² For he will deliver the needy when he cries; the poor, who has no helper.

¹⁰ And in that day there will be a root of Jesse, one who stands up to rule over the peoples; to him will the nations seek, and his resting place will be glorious.

¹ "Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. ² For, look, darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise on you, and his glory shall be seen on you. ³ Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. ⁴ "Lift up your eyes all around, and see: they all gather themselves together, they come to you; your sons shall come from far, and your daughters shall be carried in the arms. ⁵ Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart shall thrill and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you. ⁶ The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come; they shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praises of the LORD. ⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you; they shall come up with acceptance on my altar; and I will glorify the house of my glory. ⁸ "Who are these who fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows? ⁹ Surely the islands shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, for the name of the LORD your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because he has glorified you. ¹⁰ "Foreigners shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister to you: for in my wrath I struck you, but in my favor have I had mercy on you. ¹¹ Your gates also shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring to you the wealth of the nations, and their kings led captive. ¹² For that nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish; yes, those nations shall be utterly wasted. ¹³ "The glory of Lebanon shall come to you, the fir tree, the pine, and the box tree together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious. ¹⁴ The sons of those who afflicted you shall come bending to you; and all those who despised you shall bow themselves down at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel. ¹⁵ "Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, so that no man passed through you, I will make you an everlasting excellency, a joy of many generations. ¹⁶ You shall also drink the milk of the nations, and shall nurse from royal breasts; and you shall know that I, the LORD, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. ¹⁷ For bronze I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood bronze, and for stones iron. I will also make your officers peace, and righteousness your ruler. ¹⁸ Violence shall no more be heard in your land, destruction nor calamity within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise. ¹⁹ The sun will no longer be your light by day, nor will the moon shine for illumination at night; but the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. ²⁰ Your sun shall no more go down, neither shall your moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended. ²¹ Your people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified. ²² The little one shall become a thousand, and the small one a strong nation; I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time."

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to put an end to the transgression, and to make an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place. ²⁵ Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem until the time of the Messiah, the Prince, there shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks. It shall be built again, with open spaces and a moat, but in times of distress.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, being small among the clans of Judah, out of you one will come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.

⁶ For this is what the LORD of hosts says: 'Yet once more, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land; ⁷ and I will shake all nations, and they will come with the treasures of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts. ⁸ The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,' says the LORD of hosts. ⁹ 'The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,' says the LORD of hosts; 'and in this place will I give peace,' says the LORD of hosts."

²⁵ and had no marital relations with her until she had brought forth a son; and he named him Jesus.

³ And when King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

⁵ And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet,

¹⁹ But when Herod was dead, look, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,

⁵ There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. He had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

⁴ Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David; ⁵ to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him, being pregnant. ⁶ It happened, while they were there, that the day had come that she should give birth. ⁷ And she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him with pieces of cloth, and placed him in a feeding trough, because there was no guest room available for them.

¹¹ For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ, the Lord.

¹⁵ And it happened that when the angels went away from them into the sky, the shepherds said one to another, "Let us go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us."

⁴² Hasn't the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"

¹⁷ I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel, and will crush the forehead of Moab, and the crown of all the sons of tumult.

⁶ "But I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain."

¹¹ So the king will desire your beauty, honor him, for he is your lord.

⁶ For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

¹ Look, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in justice. ² A man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a shelter from the storm, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a large rock in a weary land.

³ Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

⁵ "Look, the days come," says the LORD, "that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

⁹ but they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up to them.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion. Shout, daughter of Jerusalem. Look, your king comes to you. He is righteous, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

¹⁰ And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. ¹¹ And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

⁵ Say to the daughter of Zion, "Look, your King comes to you, humble, and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

¹¹ Now Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus said to him, "You say so."

⁷⁸ because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the dawn from on high will visit us, ⁷⁹ to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death; to guide our feet into the way of peace."

³⁸ saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest."

³ Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "You say so."

³⁸ An inscription was also written above him: "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS."

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are King of Israel."

²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

³⁷ Pilate therefore said to him, "Are you a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice."

¹² At this, Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jewish leaders shouted, saying, "If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar." ¹³ When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called "The Pavement," but in Hebrew, "Gabbatha." ¹⁴ Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about noon. He said to the Jewish leaders, "Look, here is your King." ¹⁵ They shouted, "Away with him. Away with him. Crucify him." Pilate said to them, "Should I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."

¹⁹ Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. There was written, "JESUS THE NAZOREAN, THE KING OF THE JEWS."

²⁸ Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God."

⁶ And again, when he brings in the firstborn into the world he says, "Let all the angels of God worship him."

¹⁶ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify these things to you for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David; the bright morning star."

¹⁷ It happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, "Is that you, you troubler of Israel?" ¹⁸ He answered, "I have not troubled Israel; but you, and your father's house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and you have followed the Baals.

²⁹ And look, they shouted, saying, "What do we have to do with you, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"

³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.

⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What are we doing? For this man does many signs. ⁴⁸ If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation."

²⁴ When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, "Lord, you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them. ²⁵ You said through the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David your servant: 'Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain? ²⁶ The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take council together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.' ²⁷ "For truly, in this city against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the non-Jews and the people of Israel, were gathered together

²⁴ Now when the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were very perplexed about them and what might become of this. ²⁵ One came and told them, "Look, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people." ²⁶ Then the captain went with the officers, and brought them without violence, for they were afraid that the people might stone them. ²⁷ When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them, ²⁸ saying, "Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man's blood on us."

²⁰ When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, "These men, being Jews, are agitating our city, ²¹ and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans."

⁶ When they did not find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city, crying, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here also, ⁷ whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus."

¹⁵ Hilkiah answered Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the scroll of the law in the house of the LORD." Hilkiah delivered the scroll to Shaphan.

¹⁴ Moreover all the chiefs of the priests, and the people, trespassed very greatly after all the abominations of the nations; and they polluted the house of the LORD which he had made holy in Jerusalem.

⁶ this Ezra went up from Babylon: and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given; and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God on him.

¹¹ Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artachshasta gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, even the scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel: ¹² Artachshasta, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect and so forth.

⁵ Then Ezra arose, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they swore.

⁷ Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, Jedaiah. These were the chiefs of the priests and of their brothers in the days of Jeshua.

² The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed:

⁸ How can you say, "We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us?" But, look, the lying pen of the scribes has worked falsehood.

⁷ For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth; for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

²⁹ for he taught them with authority, and not like their scribes.

⁵² And he said to them, "Therefore, every scribe who has been made a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things."

¹⁵ But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the son of David." they were indignant,

²³ When he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you this authority?"

³ Then the chief priests and the scribes and the elders of the people gathered together in the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas.

⁴⁷ While he was still speaking, look, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a large crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

¹ Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

³¹ He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

¹⁹ The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.

¹⁰ The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.

¹⁰ Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not understand these things?

³² The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

³ Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,

³ Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

⁵ It happened in the morning, that their rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem.

¹² They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, and brought him in to the council,

⁹ A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and contended, saying, "We find no evil in this man. What if a spirit spoke to him, or an angel?"

¹⁹ So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

¹ It happened in the days when the judges judged, that there was a famine in the land. A certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

¹⁹ So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. It happened, when they had come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they asked, "Is this Naomi?"

⁴ Look, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, "The LORD be with you." They answered him, "The LORD bless you."

¹¹ All the people who were in the gate, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two built the house of Israel; and treat you worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Bethlehem.

¹ The LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite; for I have provided a king for myself among his sons."

¹⁹ Out of Jacob shall one have dominion, and shall destroy the remnant from the city."

² In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. The LORD said to you, 'You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be ruler over Israel.'"

² For Judah prevailed above his brothers, and a leader descended from him; but the birthright was Joseph's:)

¹ Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain? ² The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed: ³ "Letʼs tear off their shackles, and throw off their ropes from us." ⁴ The one who sits in the heavens laughs. The LORD scoffs at them. ⁵ Then he will speak to them in his anger, and terrify them in his wrath: ⁶ "But I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain."

⁷¹ from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob his servant, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

¹¹ He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.

⁴ I will set up shepherds over them, who shall feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be lacking," says the LORD. ⁵ "Look, the days come," says the LORD, "that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name by which he shall be called: 'The LORD our righteousness.'

²³ I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. ²⁴ I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David prince among them;" I, the LORD, have spoken it. ²⁵ "'I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause evil animals to cease out of the land; and they shall dwell securely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.

²⁴ "'"My servant David shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my ordinances, and observe my statutes, and do them. ²⁵ They shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant, in which your fathers lived; and they shall dwell in it, they, and their children, and their children's children, forever: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever. ²⁶ Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore.

¹⁸ Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.

¹⁶ He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep."

²² He put all things under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things for the church,

¹⁸ He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

²⁷ He will rule them with an iron scepter, shattering them like clay pots; as I also have received of my Father:

¹⁵ The seventh angel sounded, and great voices in heaven followed, saying, "The kingdom of the world now belongs to our Lord and to his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever."

¹⁰ Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape out of the land."

²¹ And Saul thought, "I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him." Therefore Saul said to David, "You shall this day be my son-in-law a second time."

⁹ He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless, when he draws him in his net. ¹⁰ The helpless are crushed. They collapse. They fall under his strength.

²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

⁴ to shoot innocent men from ambushes. They shoot at him suddenly and fearlessly. ⁵ They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say, "Who will see them?" ⁶ They plot injustice; they hide a well-conceived plan. Surely man's mind and heart are cunning.

³ They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones. ⁴ "Come," they say, "and let's destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more."

⁵ Because Aram, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have plotted evil against you, saying, ⁶ "Let's go up against Judah, and tear it apart, and let's divide it among ourselves, and set up a king in its midst, even the son of Tabeel." ⁷ This is what the Lord GOD says: "It shall not stand, neither shall it happen."

¹⁰ "'Thus says the Lord GOD: "It shall happen in that day, that things shall come into your mind, and you shall devise an evil device: ¹¹ and you shall say, 'I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to those who are at rest, who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates;

³ Then the chief priests and the scribes and the elders of the people gathered together in the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas. ⁴ They took counsel together that they might take Jesus by deceit, and kill him. ⁵ But they said, "Not during the feast, lest a riot occur among the people."

¹ A great sign was seen in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. ² She was with child. She screamed out in pain, laboring to give birth. ³ Another sign was seen in heaven. Look, a great fiery red serpent, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven crowns. ⁴ His tail drew one third of the stars of the sky, and threw them to the earth. The serpent stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth he might devour her child. ⁵ She gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with an iron scepter. Her child was caught up to God, and to his throne.

¹⁵ The serpent spewed water out of his mouth after the woman like a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream.

²² Please go investigate again, and look around and learn the place where his swift foot is, for I am told that he is very clever. ²³ See therefore, and find out all the hiding places where he hides himself, and come back to me when you know for certain, and I will go with you. And it shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search for him among all the thousands of Judah."

⁷ It happened at the end of four years, that Absalom said to the king, "Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron. ⁸ For your servant vowed a vow while I stayed at Geshur in Aram, saying, 'If the LORD will bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD in Hebron.'" ⁹ The king said to him, "Go in peace." So he arose, and went to Hebron. ¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, 'Absalom is king in Hebron.'" ¹¹ Two hundred men went with Absalom out of Jerusalem, who were invited, and went in their simplicity; and they did not know anything. ¹² And he sent and invited Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

¹⁴ Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel." For the LORD had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil on Absalom.

² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time."

¹⁸ Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, "Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu will serve him much. ¹⁹ Now therefore call to me all the prophets of Baal, all of his worshippers, and all of his priests. Let none be absent; for I have a great sacrifice to Baal. Whoever is absent, he shall not live." But Jehu did it in subtlety, intending that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.

¹ Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the people from the exile were building a temple to the LORD, the God of Israel; ² then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of ancestral houses, and said to them, "Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as you do; and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here."

¹² He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands can't perform their enterprise. ¹³ He traps the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of the cunning are brought to a quick end.

² Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart. ³ May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts,

¹⁰ The LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect. ¹¹ The counsel of the LORD stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

¹¹ Destructive forces are within her. Threats and lies do not depart from her streets. ¹² For it was not an enemy who insulted me, then I could have endured it. Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me, then I would have hid myself from him. ¹³ But it was you, a man like me, my companion, and my familiar friend. ¹⁴ We took sweet fellowship together. We walked in God's house with company. ¹⁵ Let death come suddenly on them. Let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

²⁴ A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart. ²⁵ When his speech is charming, do not believe him; for there are seven abominations in his heart.

⁵ that there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even eighty men, having their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with meal offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD. ⁶ Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it happened, as he met them, he said to them, "Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam." ⁷ It was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah killed them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men who were with him.

³⁷ Who can speak a thing and have it come to pass, unless the LORD has commanded it?

⁴⁸ Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, "Whoever I kiss, he is the one. Seize him." ⁴⁹ Immediately he came to Jesus, and said, "Greetings, Rabbi." and kissed him.

²⁰ They watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and are not partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He traps the wise in their craftiness." ²⁰ And again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile."

¹² What man is he who fears the LORD? He shall instruct him in the way that he shall choose.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you; ² So as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ Yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures: ⁵ then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

¹⁷ I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me.

² "Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him."

¹⁹ We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star arises in your hearts:

¹³ He made him ride on the high places of the earth. He ate the increase of the field. He caused him to suck honey out of the rock, oil out of the flinty rock;

⁴ Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you will judge the world in righteousness. You will judge the peoples with equity, and guide the nations on earth.

³ Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

¹⁰ The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for see, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.

²⁰ The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.

⁴⁶ Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, "It was necessary that God's word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, look, we turn to the non-Jewish people. ⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have set you as a light to the nations, that you may bring salvation to the farthest part of the earth.'" ⁴⁸ As the non-Jewish people heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord. As many as were appointed to everlasting life believed.

⁹ and that the non-Jews might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, "therefore I will give praise to you among the non-Jews, and sing to your name." ¹⁰ Again he says, "Rejoice, you nations, with his people." ¹¹ Again, "Praise the Lord, all you nations. Let all the peoples praise him." ¹² Again, Isaiah says, "There will be the root of Jesse, he who arises to rule over the peoples; in him will the nations hope." ¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹¹ Then their father Israel said to them, "If it must be so, then do this: Take some of the best fruits of the land in your bags and bring a gift for the man, a little balm, a little honey, spices and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds.

²³ "Also take fine spices: of liquid myrrh, five hundred shekels; and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, even two hundred and fifty; and of fragrant cane, two hundred and fifty;

³⁴ The LORD said to Moses, "Take to yourself sweet spices, gum resin, and onycha, and galbanum; sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each shall there be an equal weight;

¹ "'When anyone offers a grain offering to the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil on it, and put frankincense on it. ² He shall bring it to Aaron's sons, the priests; and he shall take his handful of its fine flour, and of its oil, with all its frankincense; and the priest shall burn its memorial on the altar, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to the LORD.

¹⁵ He shall take from there his handful of the fine flour of the meal offering, and of its oil, and all the frankincense which is on the meal offering, and shall burn it on the altar for a pleasant aroma, as its memorial, to the LORD.

¹⁴ one golden ladle of ten shekels, full of incense;

⁸⁶ the twelve golden ladles, full of incense, weighing ten shekels apiece, after the shekel of the sanctuary; all the gold of the ladles weighed one hundred twenty shekels;

²⁷ But certain worthless fellows said, "How shall this man save us?" So they despised him, and brought him no present. Now Nahash, king of the Ammonites, was severely oppressing the Gadites and the Reubenites. He put out the right eye of all of them, and he would not allow anyone to rescue Israel. Not one was left of the children of Israel beyond the Jordan whose right eye Nahash, king of the Ammonites, did not put out, except for seven thousand men who had escaped from the Ammonites and went to Jabesh Gilead.

² She came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bore spices, and very much gold, and precious stones; and when she had come to Solomon, she talked with him of all that was in her heart.

¹⁰ She gave the king one hundred twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones. There came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

¹² Do homage in purity, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when his anger is suddenly kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

⁸ All your garments smell like myrrh and aloes and cassia. Out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made you glad.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

¹⁵ And he shall live, and the gold of Sheba shall be given to him. Men shall pray for him continually. He shall bless him all day long.

⁶ Oh come, let's worship and bow down. Let's kneel before the LORD, our Maker,

⁶ The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come; they shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praises of the LORD.

¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name is great among the nations," says the LORD of hosts.

⁹ And he said to him, "I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me." ¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan. For it is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

³³ Those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "You are truly the Son of God."

¹⁶ They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.

²⁶ It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. ²⁷ He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the requirement of the Law, ²⁸ then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, ²⁹ "Now you are releasing your servant, Lord, according to your word, in peace; ³⁰ for my eyes have seen your salvation, ³¹ which you have prepared before the face of all peoples; ³² a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel."

³⁸ Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

²² For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

²⁵ When it happened that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him. ²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, "Stand up. I myself am also a man."

⁸ Now when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

¹⁰ I fell down before his feet to worship him. He said to me, "Look. Do not do it. I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy."

⁸ Now I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who had shown me these things. ⁹ He said to me, "See you do not do it. I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers, the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God." ¹⁰ He said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.

⁶ God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not allow you to touch her. ⁷ Now therefore, restore the man's wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you do not restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours."

²⁴ God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night, and said to him, "Be careful that you do not speak to Jacob either good or bad."

¹⁷ But the midwives feared God, and did not do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive.

¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed; ¹⁶ Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, ¹⁷ That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

¹⁹ Then was the secret revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

²⁰ But when he thought about these things, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

¹³ Now when they had departed, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."

²² But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,

¹⁹ While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him."

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves,

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than people.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He traps the wise in their craftiness."

⁷ By faith, Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared a box-shaped vessel for the salvation of his household, through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

²² Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, "You are to cast every son who is born to the Hebrews into the river, but every daughter you are to keep alive."

² The woman conceived, and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months. ³ When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus box for him and coated it with bitumen and with pitch. And she put the child in it and put it among the rushes by the bank of the river.

¹³ It shall come to pass, when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan will be cut off, even the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand in one heap."

¹⁷ The priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan; and all Israel passed over on dry ground, until all the nation had passed completely over the Jordan.

¹⁰ For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan, until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over.

¹⁸ It happened, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD had come up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks, as before.

¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed;

¹⁷ That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

²⁵ He answered, "Look, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are unharmed; and the aspect of the fourth is like a son of the gods." ²⁶ Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace. He spoke and said, "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the Most High God, come forth, and come here." Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came forth out of the midst of the fire.

¹² Being warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.

¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the Magi, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the Magi.

¹⁹ But when Herod was dead, look, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, ²⁰ "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead."

²³ But when they persecute you in one city, flee to the other. And if they persecute you in the other, flee to the next. For truly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

¹⁹ But an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors by night, and brought them out, and said,

¹⁹ The same took advantage of our race, and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to throw out their babies, so that they would not stay alive.

⁷ When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually.

²² They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say."

¹¹ When Peter had come to himself, he said, "Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting."

³⁶ The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, "The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore come out, and go in peace."

¹³ But which of the angels has he told at any time, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet?" ¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to do service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?

⁶ The woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that there they may nourish her one thousand two hundred sixty days.

¹⁴ Two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, so that she might be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

²⁴ And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself;

²⁰ "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead." ²¹ And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.

²¹ For this reason Jews seized me when I was in the temple, and tried to kill me.

²² You shall tell Pharaoh, 'Thus says the LORD, Israel is my son, my firstborn,

⁸ God brings him out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox. He shall eat up the nations his adversaries, shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them with his arrows.

¹ "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.

²² Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,

¹⁷ Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,

²³ and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he will be called a Nazorean.

¹⁴ that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, ¹⁵ "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.

¹⁷ that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, "He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases."

¹⁶ and commanded them that they should not make him known. ¹⁷ This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, ¹⁸ "Look, my servant whom I have chosen; my beloved in whom my soul delights. I will put my Spirit on him; and he will proclaim justice to the nations.

⁴ This took place that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,

⁵⁴ How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?"

⁵⁶ But all this has happened, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

³⁵ When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among themselves, casting a lot, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: 'They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot.'

⁴⁴ And he said to them, "This is what I told you, while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms, concerning me must be fulfilled."

²⁸ After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty."

³⁶ For these things happened, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "A bone of him will not be broken."

¹⁶ "Brothers, it was necessary that this Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to those who took Jesus.

¹ Now about that time, Herod the king stretched out his hands to oppress some of the church. ² He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword. ³ When he saw that it pleased the Jewish people, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This was during the days of unleavened bread. ⁴ When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.

²³ Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died. ²⁴ But the word of God grew and multiplied.

¹⁴ she called to the men of her house, and spoke to them, saying, “Look, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to mock us. He came in to me to sleep with me, and I cried with a loud voice.

¹⁷ And she told him the same story, saying, "The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought to us, came in to me to mock me, and said to me, x91Let me sleep with you.ʼ

⁷ Cursed be their anger, for it has been fierce, and their fury, for it was cruel. I will divide them in Jacob,and scatter them in Israel.

²⁹ Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you."

¹⁰ Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, "I called you to curse my enemies, and, look, you have altogether blessed them these three times.

¹⁰ Delilah said to Samson, "Look, you have mocked me, and told me lies: now please tell me with which you might be bound."

¹² Hazael said, "Why do you weep, my lord?" He answered, "Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel. You will set their strongholds on fire, and you will kill their young men with the sword, and will dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child."

⁴ I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke.

³ A stone is heavy, and sand is a burden; but a fool's provocation is heavier than both. ⁴ Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?

¹⁵ As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.

¹⁷ A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death; no one will support him.

²¹ For, look, the LORD comes forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth also will disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.

⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they are swift to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; destruction and calamity are in their paths.

¹³ Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.

¹⁹ Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. ²⁰ He commanded certain mighty men who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

¹⁴ Therefore a battle roar will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth Arbel in the day of battle. The mother was dashed in pieces with her children.

⁶ I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered with great amazement.

¹⁶ Then they set out from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel went into labor, and her labor was difficult. ¹⁷ When she was in the difficult labor, the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid, for now you have another son." ¹⁸ It happened, as her life was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-Oni, but his father named him Benjamin. ¹⁹ So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). ²⁰ Jacob set up a standing-stone on her grave. It is the standing-stone of Rachelʼs grave to this day.

³⁰ He went back to his brothers and said, "The boy is gone. Now, what am I to do?"

³³ And he recognized it, and said, "It is my sonʼs robe. A vicious animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces." ³⁴ Then Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth around his waist, and mourned for his son many days. ³⁵ All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. And he said, "Indeed, I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning." And his father wept for him.

³⁶ Then their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All this has come against me."

¹⁰ But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?

³¹ For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her who brings forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, who gasps for breath, who spreads her hands, saying, "Woe is me now. For my soul faints before the murderers."

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Consider, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skillful women, that they may come:" ¹⁸ "and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters. ¹⁹ For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, 'How are we ruined. We are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.'" ²⁰ "Yet hear the word of the LORD, you women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and everyone her neighbor lamentation. ²¹ 'For death has come up into our windows, it is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from outside, and the young men from the streets.'

¹⁵ Thus says the LORD: "A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and weeping and great bitterness, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more."

¹⁰ He spread it before me: and it was written within and without; and there were written in it lamentations, and mourning, and woe.

¹³ I saw, and I heard an eagle, flying in mid heaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe. Woe. Woe for those who dwell on the earth, because of the other voices of the trumpets of the three angels, who are yet to sound."

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man praises you. The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

⁷ Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence?

¹² "I, even I, am he who comforts you: who are you, that you are afraid of man who shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass;

¹⁰ Therefore do not be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says the LORD; neither be dismayed, Israel: for, look, I will save you from afar, and your descendants from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

¹⁶ Therefore say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Whereas I have removed them far off among the nations, and whereas I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them a sanctuary for a little while in the countries where they have come."'

²⁵ Through his cunning he shall cause deceit to prosper by his influence, and he shall be great in his own mind, and without warning he shall destroy many. He shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be shattered, but not by human hands.

⁴⁵ And he shall pitch his royal tents between the sea and the beautiful holy mountain. Yet he shall come to his end, with no one to help him.

¹² Being warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way. ¹³ Now when they had departed, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."

¹⁹ The LORD said to Moses in Midian, "Go, return into Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead."

²¹ When Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the commander of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, "Let me depart, that I may go to my own country."

⁴⁰ Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam; but Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

¹ Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king. ² And it happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt), he came straight to his own city in the land of Zererah in the hill country of Ephraim. ³ And they sent and called for him. And Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

²² Thus Noah did. According to all that God commanded him, so he did.

⁸ By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he was going.

¹⁷ It came to pass, when they had taken them out, that he said, "Escape for your life. Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away." ¹⁸ Lot said to them, "Oh, not so, my lord. ¹⁹ See now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your loving kindness, which you have shown to me in saving my life. I can't escape to the mountain, lest the disaster overtake me, and I die. ²⁰ See now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there--isn't it a little one?--and my life will be saved." ²¹ He said to him, "Look, I have granted your request concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.

² Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me." The LORD said, "Take a heifer with you, and say, I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.

¹⁴ For this God is our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.

²⁴ You will guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

⁶ Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses, ⁷ he led them also by a straight way, that they might go to a city to live in.

⁸ The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forth, and forevermore.

²¹ and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way. Walk in it."

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go. ¹⁸ But would that you had listened to my commandments. Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

¹³ Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.

³⁹ When they had accomplished all things that were according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

⁴¹ Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "What, does the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Hasn't the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"

⁵² They answered him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet comes from Galilee."

¹³ But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem. ¹⁴ Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name."

¹³ "This is the law of the Nazirite: when the days of his separation are fulfilled, he shall be brought to the door of the Tent of Meeting,

⁵ For look, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and no razor will come on his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb. And he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines."

¹¹ She vowed a vow, and said, "LORD of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid, and remember me, and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a son, then I will set him before you as a Nazirite until the day of his death. And he will not drink wine or strong drink, and no razor will come on his head."

⁹ For the zeal of your house consumes me. The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. ¹⁰ When I wept and I fasted, it brought me insults.

¹ LORD, who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? ² For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nor special appearance that we should desire him.

¹⁰ Also I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite. ¹¹ I raised up some of your sons for prophets, and some of your young men for Nazirites. Isn't this true, you children of Israel?" says the LORD. ¹² "But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets, saying, 'Do not prophesy.'

⁷¹ And when he had gone out onto the porch, another girl saw him, and said to those who were there, "This man also was with Jesus the Nazorean."

²⁴ saying, "What do we have to do with you, Jesus, Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God."

²⁶ Now in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and the Prophets wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."

⁵ They answered him, "Jesus the Nazorean." Jesus said to them, "I AM." Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.

⁷ Again therefore he asked them, "Who are you looking for?" They said, "Jesus the Nazorean."

²² "Men of Israel, hear these words. Jesus the Nazorean, a man approved by God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as you yourselves know,

⁵ For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.
