¹³ Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme authority;

²¹ They said to him, Caesar's. Then he said to them, Then render to Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's.

¹ Let every man be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority but from God: and those authorities that exist have been ordained by God. ² Therefore, whoever resists the authorities, resists the ordinance of God: and those who resist shall bring condemnation upon themselves. ³ For rulers are not a terror for those who do good works, but to those who do evil. Do you want to have no fear of the one in authority? do that which is good, and you shall have his praise: ⁴ For he is a minister of God for your good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain: for he is a minister of God to execute wrath upon the one who does evil. ⁵ Therefore you must be subject, not only to avoid wrath, but also for conscience sake. ⁶ For this reason you also pay taxes: for they are God's ministers, attending continually to this very service. ⁷ Therefore, give to all men what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; revenue to whom revenue; respect to whom respect; honour to whom honour.

²¹ Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

¹ Therefore I urge, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; ² For kings, and for all who are in authority; that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and reverence.

¹ Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do every good work,

¹⁰ And particularly those who walk after the flesh in its unclean lusts, and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of the glorious ones.

⁸ Likewise, these dreamers defile the flesh, despise authority, and speak evil of the glorious ones. ⁹ Yet Michael the archangel, when he contended with the devil and argued over the body of Moses, did not dare to bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke you. ¹⁰ But these men speak evil of things which they do not understand: but what they know by instinct, like brute beasts, by these things they corrupt themselves.
