⁹ Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

⁵ And surely your blood of your lives I will require; at the hand of every beast I will require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother I will require the life of man. ⁶ Whoever sheds man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed: For He made man in the image of God.

¹³ You shall not kill. ¹⁴ You shall not commit adultery.

³⁰ But the soul that does ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproaches the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. ³¹ Because he has despised the word of the LORD, and has broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be on him.

¹⁹ Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but did fly upon the spoil, and did evil in the sight of the LORD?"

²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king."

⁴ And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: And she returned to her house.

¹⁴ And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, "Set you Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire you from him, that he may be smitten, and die. ¹⁶ And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew that valiant men were. ¹⁷ And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: And there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also. ¹⁸ Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war; ¹⁹ and charged the messenger, saying, "When you have made an end of telling the matters of the war to the king, ²⁰ and if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say to you, Why approached you so near to the city when you did fight? Knew you not that they would shoot from the wall? ²¹ Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone on him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? Why went you near the wall? Then say you, Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also. ²² So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for. ²³ And the messenger said to David, "Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field, and we were on them even to the entering of the gate. ²⁴ And the shooters shot from off the wall upon your servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also. ²⁵ Then David said to the messenger, "Thus you shall say to Joab, Let not this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another: Make your battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: And encourage you him. ²⁶ And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. ²⁷ And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

⁶ And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: Also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: He worked much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

⁴ Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight: That You might be justified when You speak, and be clear when You judge.

⁸ You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.

¹ To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me, and known me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off.

²⁴ Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: Because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁰ if it does evil in My sight, that it does not obey My voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.

⁴ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept His commandments, and their lies caused them to err, the same errors after which their fathers have walked:

²⁸ He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, shall he be thought worthy, who has tread underfoot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has extreme malice toward the Spirit of grace?
