¹ And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. ² And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her. ³ But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: And Jonadab was a very subtle man. ⁴ And he said to him, "Why are you, being the king's son, lean from day to day? And Amnon said to him, "I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister. ⁵ And Jonadab said to him, "Lay you down on your bed, and make yourself sick: And when your father comes to see you, say to him, I implore you, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand. ⁶ So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: And when the king had come to see him, Amnon said to the king, I implore you, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand. ⁷ Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, "Go now to your brother Amnon's house, and dress him meat. ⁸ So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes. ⁹ And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, "Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him. ¹⁰ And Amnon said to Tamar, "Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of your hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. ¹¹ And when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her, "Come lie with me, my sister. ¹² And she answered him, No, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: Do not you this folly. ¹³ And I, where shall I cause my shame to go? And as for you, you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I implore you, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you. ¹⁴ However, he would not hearken to her voice: But, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her. ¹⁵ Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, "Arise, be gone. ¹⁶ And she said to him, "There is no cause: This evil in sending me away is greater than the other that you did to me. But he would not listen to her. ¹⁷ Then he called his servant that ministered to him, and said, "Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her. ¹⁸ And she had a garment of diverse colors on her: For with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins appareled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. ¹⁹ And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of diverse colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying. ²⁰ And Absalom her brother said to her, "Has Amnon your brother been with you? But hold now your peace, my sister: He is your brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house. ²¹ But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth. ²² And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: For Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. ²³ And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheep shearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: And Absalom invited all the king's sons. ²⁴ And Absalom came to the king, and said, "Behold now, your servant has sheep shearers; let the king, I beseech you, and his servants go with your servant. ²⁵ And the king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable to you. And he pressed him: However, he would not go, but blessed him. ²⁶ Then said Absalom, If not, I implore you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. ²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: Have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant. ²⁹ And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got him up on his mule, and fled. ³⁰ And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, "Absalom has slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left. ³¹ Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent. ³² And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, "Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: For by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar. ³³ Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead: For Amnon only is dead. ³⁴ But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him. ³⁵ And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons come: As your servant said, "so it is. ³⁶ And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: And the king also and all his servants wept very sore. ³⁷ But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. ³⁸ So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years. ³⁹ And the soul of king David longed to go forth to Absalom: For he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

² that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were fair; and they took themselves wives of all which they chose.

² And to David were sons born in Hebron: And his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; ³ and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

² And it came to pass in an evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked on the roof of the king's house: And from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look on.

¹⁵ Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, "Arise, be gone.

²⁷ And to Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: She was a woman of a fair countenance.

¹ But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites:

⁹ These were all the sons of David, beside the sons of the concubines, and Tamar their sister.

²⁵ Do not lust after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids.

³⁰ Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

⁴ And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: For he had said, "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

⁸ I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him, that I am sick with love.

¹⁰ For godly sorrow works out repentance to salvation, not to be regretted: But the sorrow of the world works death.

¹ And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brothers, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

²⁰ And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: But he did not find her.

²⁰ But Samson's wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.

⁹ Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, "Neither has the LORD chosen this one."

³² And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, "Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: For by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

² And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched there a wise woman, and said to her, "I implore you, feign yourself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not yourself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:

¹⁹ And the king said, "Is not the hand of Joab with you in all this? And the woman answered and said, "As your soul lives, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king has spoken: For your servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid: ²⁰ To fetch about this form of speech has your servant Joab done this thing: And my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.

¹⁰ Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: And when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.

¹⁴ Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, "Let a gallows be made fifty cubits high, and tomorrow speak to the king that Mordecai may be hanged on it: Then go in merrily with the king to the banquet." And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.50 Hebrew cubits (of the scriptures) is approximately 91.2 feet, or 27.8m; per Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary and Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI.

¹³ And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, "If Mordecai is of the seed of the Jews, before whom you have begun to fall, you shall not prevail against him, but shall surely fall before him."

⁶ Many will entreat the favor of the prince: And every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.

²² "For my people are foolish, they have not known Me; they are silly children, and they have no understanding: They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge."

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness."

¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

⁹ The nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or daughter of your mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness you shall not uncover.

¹⁷ And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: He has uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

⁷ And Jezebel his wife said to him, "Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry: I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

⁹ The show of their countenance does witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have rewarded evil to themselves.

¹² Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: Therefore they shall fall among those who fall: In the time of their visitation they shall be cast down", said the LORD.

¹⁵ Now you, therefore, together with the council, signify to the chief captain that he bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: And we are ready to kill him whenever he comes near."

⁶ And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly make ready three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth."

³³ He spoke another parable to them: "The kingdom of heaven is likened to leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of grain-meal, until the whole mass was leavened."The word for dry measure in the Greek contains nearly a [UK] peck and a half, short by just over a [UK] pint. Thus 3 measures equates to approximately 165 [US] cups, or ~156 [metric] cups.

¹ Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all those that stood by him; and he cried, "Cause every man to go out from me." And no man stood there with him, while Joseph made himself known to his brothers.

¹⁹ But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, "I have a secret errand to you, O king: Who said, "Keep silence. ⁷ And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: And the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had committed folly in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter; a thing which ought not to be done.

¹¹ The nakedness of your father's wife's daughter, begotten of your father, she is your sister, you shall not uncover her nakedness.

²⁹ then the man that lay with her shall give to the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he has humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

²³ And the man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, "No, my brothers, no, I implore you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into my house, do not this folly.

⁶ And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: For they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

⁸ Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known a man; let me, I implore you, bring them out to you, and you do to them as is good in your eyes: Only do nothing to these men; for such shelter they came under the shadow of my roof."

¹² And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

²⁴ Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble you them, and do with them what seems good to you: But to this man do not so vile a thing.

²⁵ But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: Then the man only that lay with her shall die. ²⁶ But to the damsel you shall do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: For as when a man rises against his neighbor, and slays him, even so is this matter: ²⁷ For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

⁵ And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house all around on me by night, and thought to have slain me: And my concubine have they forced, that she is dead.

¹¹ Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

⁸ Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fell upon the bed on which Esther was. Then the king said, "Will he also force the queen before me in the house?" As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

¹⁷ And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them.

³ Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: And he made him a coat of many colors.

²³ And it came to pass, when Joseph had come to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colors that was on him;

²⁸ And afterward when David heard it, he said, "I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD forever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner: ²⁹ Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that has an issue, or that is a leper, or that leans on a staff, or that falls on the sword, or that lacks bread.

⁵ And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, "As the LORD lives, the man that has done this thing shall surely die:

¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

⁸ I will soon destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

⁵⁰ Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, "The thing proceeds from the LORD: We cannot speak to you bad or good.

²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said to him, "Take heed that you do not speak to Jacob either good or bad."

²⁹ It is in the power of my hand to do you harm: But the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, 'Take heed that you do not speak to Jacob either good or bad.'

¹⁷ You shall not hate your brother in your heart: You shall in any wise rebuke your neighbor, and not suffer sin on him. ¹⁸ You shall not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.

¹⁸ He that hides hatred with lying lips, and he that utters a slander, is a fool.

⁹ Debate your cause with your neighbor himself; and do not disclose a secret to another:

⁴ Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy? ⁵ Open rebuke is better than secret love. ⁶ Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

⁹ Do not be hasty to be angry in your spirit: For anger rests in the bosom of fools.

¹⁵ Moreover, if your brother trespasses against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone: If he hears you, you have gained your brother.

²⁶ "Be angry, and do not sin": Do not let the sun go down upon your wrath:

³¹ Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice:

⁹ He that says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now.

¹¹ But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and does not know where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.

¹⁵ Whoever hates his brother is a murderer: And you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

¹² And in the process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheep shearers at Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite. ¹³ And it was told to Tamar, saying, "Behold, your father-in-law goes up to Timnath to shear his sheep."

² And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: And he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

⁴ And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.

⁷ And now I have heard that you have shearers: Now your shepherds which were with us, we did not hurt them, neither was there anything missing to them, all the while they were in Carmel.

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

⁹ And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat domestic beasts by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brothers the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:

¹⁹ And he has slain oxen and fat domestic beasts and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: But Solomon your servant has he not called.

Why then did you not go down to your house? ¹¹ And Uriah said to David, "The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing. ¹² And David said to Uriah, "Tarry here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart. So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day, and the next day. ¹³ And when David had called him, he ate and drink before him; and he made him drunk: And at sunset he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but not went down to his house. ¹⁴ And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, "Set you Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire you from him, that he may be smitten, and die.

² They speak vanity, everyone with his neighbor: With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak.

²¹ The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

⁶ And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: And it came to pass, as he met them, he said to them, "Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam." ⁷ And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the middle of the pit, he, and the men who were with him.

² and he said, "Behold now, my lords, turn in, I implore you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and you shall rise up early, and go on your way." And they said, "No; but we will abide in the street all night." ³ And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in to him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

⁷ And when the man rose up to depart, his father-in-law urged him: Therefore he lodged there again. ⁸ And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the damsel's father said, "Comfort your heart, I implore you. And they tarried until afternoon, and they ate both of them. ⁹ And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the damsel's father, said to him, "Behold, now the day draws toward evening, I implore you tarry all night: Behold, the day grows to an end, lodge here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow get you early on your way, that you may go home. ¹⁰ But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came in front of Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two donkeys saddled, his concubine also was with him.

⁴ And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, "The LORD be with you." And they answered him, "The LORD bless you."

²² And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: And Joab said, "Today your servant knows that I have found grace in your sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant. ²³ Then the lord said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

²⁹ But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us: For it is nearly evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to tarry with them.

¹⁵ And when she was baptized, and her household, she implored us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there." Therefore she compelled us.

²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

⁹ And Joab said to Amasa, "Are you in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him.

²⁴ He that hates conceals with his lips, and lays up deceit within himself; ²⁵ when he speaks in a pleasing manner, do not believe him: For there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shown before the whole congregation.

²¹ And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

³² Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the seed of our father." ³³ And they made their father drink wine that night: And the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he did not perceive when she lay down, nor when she arose. ³⁴ And it came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father: Let us make him drink wine this night also; and you go in, and lie with him, that we may preserve the seed of our father." ³⁵ And they made their father drink wine that night also: And the younger arose, and lay with him; and he did not perceive when she lay down, nor when she arose.

¹⁶ And he said, "When you do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it is a son, then you shall kill him: But if it is a daughter, then she shall live." ¹⁷ But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive.

¹⁶ And they came to Balaam, and said to him, "Thus said Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I implore you, hinder you from coming to me: ¹⁷ For I will promote you to very great honor, and I will do whatever you say to me: Come therefore, I implore you, curse me this people.

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

⁶ And they sat down, and ate and drink both of them together: For the damsel's father had said to the man, Be content, I implore you, and tarry all night, and let your heart be merry.

²² Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house all around, and beat at the door, and spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, "Bring forth the man that came into your house, that we may know him.

⁷ And when Boaz had eaten and had drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain ears: And she came softly and uncovered his feet, and laid herself down.

¹⁷ And the king said to the footmen that stood around him, "Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD: Because their hand is also with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not disclose it to me." But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD. ¹⁸ And the king said to Doeg, "Turn yourself, and fall upon the priests." And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day eighty-five persons that wore a linen ephod.

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light. ³⁷ But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.

¹⁰ And Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, "As the LORD lives, no punishment shall happen to you for this thing."

¹³ And the king said to her, "Do not be afraid: For what did you see?" And the woman said to Saul, "I saw gods ascending out of the earth."

¹⁶ And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

¹⁰ On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,

¹⁵ and wine that makes glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face shine, and bread which strengthens man's heart.

⁷ Go your way, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; God accepts your works for now.

¹⁹ A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry: But money answers all things.

² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink from them. ³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. ⁵ In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote in front of the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. ⁶ Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosened, and his knees knocked against one another.

³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble.

³⁴ Also take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with gluttony, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you when unaware.

²⁹ But Peter and the other apostles answered and said, "We ought to obey God rather than men.

²⁴ And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: This was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the donkeys of Zibeon, his father.

⁹ And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode on a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.

³³ The king also said to them, "Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:

¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: And the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

⁹ Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: And behold, he sat on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him, You man of God, the king has said, "Come down. ¹⁰ And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. ¹¹ Again also he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said to him, "O man of God, thus has the king said, "Come down quickly. ¹² And Elijah answered and said to them, "If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹² If a ruler hearkens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

²⁹ And Reuben returned to the pit; and behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

³⁴ And Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

³¹ And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier.

¹⁶ David therefore sought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

²⁰ Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshiped,

⁴¹ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him: And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will slay my brother Jacob.

³ But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: And Jonadab was a very subtle man.

¹⁴ Behold, he travails with iniquity, and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

¹¹ If you forbear to deliver those that are drawn to death, and those that are ready to be slain; ¹² if you say, "Behold, we did not know it"; does He that ponders the heart not consider it? And He that keeps your soul, does He not know it? And shall He not render to every man according to his works?

¹⁹ and said to the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity to me, neither do you remember that which your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

⁸ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. ⁹ And the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" And he said, "I do not know: Am I my brother's keeper?" ¹⁰ And He said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground. ¹¹ And now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened her mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand; ¹² when you till the ground, it shall not yield her strength to you from now on; a fugitive and a vagabond you shall be in the earth." ¹³ And Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is greater than I can bear. ¹⁴ Behold, You have driven me out from the face of the earth this day; and from Your face I shall be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that everyone that finds me shall slay me."

³⁷ But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. ³⁸ So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

¹⁷ A man that does violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man hold him up.

¹⁹ As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

²¹ Then said his servants to him, What thing is this that you have done? You did fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, you did rise and eat bread.

³³ And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: And as he went, thus he said, "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!

³ and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

³⁴ But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.

²³ So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

³² And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent to you, saying, "Come here, that I may send you to the king, to say, "Why am I come from Geshur? It had been good for me to have been there still: Now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.

⁸ For your servant vowed a vow while I stayed at Geshur in Syria, saying, "If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.

⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: And Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

³⁰ And now, though you would necessarily be gone, because you greatly long after your father's house, yet why have you stolen my gods?"

³⁵ And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, "For I will go down into the grave to my son still mourning." Thus his father wept for him.

¹² And in the process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheep shearers at Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long; and there shall be no might in your hand.

¹⁹ But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: Therefore David said to his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, "He is dead. ²⁰ Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshiped: Then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he ate. ²¹ Then said his servants to him, What thing is this that you have done? You did fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, you did rise and eat bread. ²² And he said, "While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: For I said, "Who can tell whether GOD will have mercy upon me; that the child may live? ²³ But now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

² My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD: My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

²⁰ My soul breaks for the longing that it has for Your judgments at all times.

²⁶ For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because you had heard that he had been sick.
