¹ Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom. ² And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched there a wise woman, and said to her, "I implore you, feign yourself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not yourself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead: ³ And come to the king, and speak on this manner to him. So Joab put the words in her mouth. ⁴ And when the woman of Tekoah spoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, "Help, O king. ⁵ And the king said to her, "What ails you? And she answered, I am indeed a widow woman, and my husband is dead. ⁶ And your handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and slew him. ⁷ And behold, the whole family is risen against your handmaid, and they said, "Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he slew; and we will destroy the heir also: And so they shall quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder on the earth. ⁸ And the king said to the woman, Go to your house, and I will give charge concerning you. ⁹ And the woman of Tekoah said to the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house: And the king and his throne be guiltless. ¹⁰ And the king said, "Whoever said ought to you, bring him to me, and he shall not touch you any more. ¹¹ Then said she, I implore you, let the king remember the LORD your God, that you would not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, "As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of your son fall to the earth. ¹² Then the woman said, "Let your handmaid, I implore you, speak one word to my lord the king. And he said, "Say on. ¹³ And the woman said, "Why then have you thought such a thing against the people of God? For the king does speak this thing as one which is faulty, in that the king does not fetch home again his banished. ¹⁴ For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither does God respect any person: Yet does he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him. ¹⁵ Now therefore that I am come to speak of this thing to my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid: And your handmaid said, "I will now speak to the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his handmaid. ¹⁶ For the king will hear, to deliver his handmaid out of the hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God. ¹⁷ Then your handmaid said, "The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: For as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: Therefore the LORD your God will be with you. ¹⁸ Then the king answered and said to the woman, Hide not from me, I implore you, the thing that I shall ask you. And the woman said, "Let my lord the king now speak. ¹⁹ And the king said, "Is not the hand of Joab with you in all this? And the woman answered and said, "As your soul lives, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king has spoken: For your servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid: ²⁰ To fetch about this form of speech has your servant Joab done this thing: And my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth. ²¹ And the king said to Joab, "Behold now, I have done this thing: Go therefore, bring the young man Absalom again. ²² And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: And Joab said, "Today your servant knows that I have found grace in your sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant. ²³ So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. ²⁴ And the king said, "Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king's face. ²⁵ But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: From the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him. ²⁶ And when he polled his head, (for it was at every year's end that he polled it: Because the hair was heavy on him, therefore he polled it): He weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels after the king's weight. ²⁷ And to Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: She was a woman of a fair countenance. ²⁸ So Absalom dwelled two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face. ²⁹ Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to have sent him to the king; but he would not come to him: And when he sent again the second time, he would not come. ³⁰ Therefore he said to his servants, See, Joab's field is near mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom's servants set the field on fire. ³¹ Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom to his house, and said to him, "Why have your servants set my field on fire? ³² And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent to you, saying, "Come here, that I may send you to the king, to say, "Why am I come from Geshur? It had been good for me to have been there still: Now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me. ³³ So Joab came to the king, and told him: And when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: And the king kissed Absalom.

¹⁸ And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: And Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.

³⁹ And the soul of king David longed to go forth to Absalom: For he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

³³ And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: And as he went, thus he said, "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!

² And the victory that day was turned into mourning to all the people: For the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.

⁴ But the king covered his face, and the king cried out with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

¹⁶ Whose sisters were Zeruiah, and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah; Abishai, and Joab, and Asahel, three.

²⁶ Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment comes from the LORD.

³ Therefore wash yourself, and anoint yourself, and put your clothing upon you, and go down to the floor: But do not make yourself known to the man, until he has finished eating and drinking.

²⁶ And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

²⁰ Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshiped: Then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he ate.

⁶ He built even Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

²⁰ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Hear me, O Judah, an d all you inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall you be established; believe his prophets, so shall you prosper.

⁵ And next to them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their LORD.

²⁷ After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, in front of the great tower that lies out, even to the wall of Ophel.

¹⁵ and wine that makes glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face shine, and bread which strengthens man's heart.

⁸ Let your garments be always white; and let your head lack no ointment.

¹ O you children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: For evil appears out of the north, and great destruction.

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

¹⁷ But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;

¹⁵ And you shall speak to him, and put words in his mouth: And I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do.

⁵ And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak.

¹⁸ I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brothers, like to you, and will put My words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.

¹⁹ And the king said, "Is not the hand of Joab with you in all this? And the woman answered and said, "As your soul lives, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king has spoken: For your servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid:

¹⁶ And I have put My words in your mouth, and I have covered you in the shadow of My hand, that I may plant heaven, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Zion, You are My people.

²¹ "As for Me, this is My covenant with them", said the LORD; "My spirit that is on you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your seed, nor out of the mouth of your seed's seed", said the LORD, "from now on and forever."

⁹ Then the LORD put forth His hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

⁴¹ And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: And they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

²³ And when Abigail saw David, she hurried, and lighted off the donkey, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground,

² it even came to pass on the third day, that behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes torn, and earth upon his head: And so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.

²⁶ And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman to him, saying, "Help, my lord, O king. ²⁷ And he said, "If the LORD do not help you, from where shall I help you? Out of the barn floor, or out of the winepress? ²⁸ And the king said to her, "What ails you? And she answered, This woman said to me, Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.

¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: My judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

³ And there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, 'Avenge me from my adversary.' ⁴ And he would not for a while: But afterward he said within himself, 'Though I do not fear God, nor regard man; ⁵ yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.' "

⁸ The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said to the olive tree, Reign you over us. ⁹ But the olive tree said to them, "Should I leave my fatness, with which by me they honor God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees? ¹⁰ And the trees said to the fig tree, Come you, and reign over us. ¹¹ But the fig tree said to them, "Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees? ¹² Then said the trees to the vine, Come you, and reign over us. ¹³ And the vine said to them, "Should I leave my wine, which cheers God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees? ¹⁴ Then said all the trees to the bramble, Come you, and reign over us. ¹⁵ And the bramble said to the trees, If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: And if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

¹ And the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him, "There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. ² The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds: ³ But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: And it grew up together with him, and with his children; it ate of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him as a daughter.

⁸ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

¹³ And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: And he said to him that did the wrong, "Why do you smite your fellow Hebrew?"

²⁶ But to the damsel you shall do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: For as when a man rises against his neighbor, and slays him, even so is this matter: ²⁷ For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

¹⁴ Behold, You have driven me out from the face of the earth this day; and from Your face I shall be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that everyone that finds me shall slay me."

⁴⁵ until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets that which you have done to him: Then I will send, and fetch you from that place: Why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?"

¹⁹ The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: When he meets him, he shall slay him.

¹² Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die. ¹³ Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you.

⁶ And it shall be, that the firstborn which she bears shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.

¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: But he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

³⁸ But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.'

⁵ And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, "As the LORD lives, the man that has done this thing shall surely die: ⁶ And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

⁴ Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, your are all that pertained to Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, "I humbly beseech you that I may find grace in your sight, my lord, O king.

¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: And the cause which I did not know I searched out.

¹³ He that answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.

³ and shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: And he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: ⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: And he shall smite the earth: With the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

¹³ And his mother said to him, "Upon me be your curse, my son: Only obey my voice, and go fetch them for me."

³³ So you shall not pollute the land in which you are: For blood it defiles the land: And the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him that shed it.

¹ If one be found slain in the land which the LORD your God gives you to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who has slain him: ² Then your elders and your judges shall come forth, and they shall measure to the cities which are all around him that is slain: ³ And it shall be, that the city which is next to the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer, which has not been worked with, and which has not drawn in the yoke; ⁴ and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer to a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer's neck there in the valley: ⁵ And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD your God has chosen to minister to him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried: ⁶ And all the elders of that city, that are next to the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley: ⁷ And they shall answer and say, "Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. ⁸ Be merciful, O LORD, to Your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and do not lay innocent blood to Your people of Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them. ⁹ So shall you put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when you shall do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.

²⁴ and fell at his feet, and said, "Upon me, my lord, upon me let this iniquity be: And let your handmaid, I implore you, speak in your audience, and hear the words of your handmaid.

²⁸ And afterward when David heard it, he said, "I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD forever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner: ²⁹ Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that has an issue, or that is a leper, or that leans on a staff, or that falls on the sword, or that lacks bread.

³³ Their blood shall therefore return on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed forever: But on David, and on his seed, and on his house, and on his throne, shall there be peace forever from the LORD.

²⁵ Then all the people answered, and said, "His blood be on us, and on our children."

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have lifted up my hand to the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

² And Abraham said to his oldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, "Put, I implore you, your hand under my thigh: ³ And I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

⁵⁰ If you shall afflict my daughters, or if you shall take other wives besides my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness between me and you."

²¹ or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: He that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: The revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meets him.

²⁷ and the revenger of blood find him outside the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:

⁴ And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoever kills his neighbor ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past; ⁵ as when a man goes into the wood with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand fetches a stroke with the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the helve, and lights on his neighbor, that he die; he shall flee to one of those cities, and live: ⁶ Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past. ⁷ Why I command you, saying, "You shall separate three cities for you. ⁸ And if the LORD your God enlarge your coast, as he has sworn to your fathers, and give you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers; ⁹ if you shall keep all these commandments to do them, which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to walk ever in his ways; then you shall add three cities more for you, beside these three: ¹⁰ That innocent blood be not shed in your land, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, and so blood be upon you.

³ That the slayer that kills any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: And they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood. ⁴ And when he that does flee to one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city to them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them. ⁵ And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbor unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime. ⁶ And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: Then shall the slayer return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city from where he fled.

⁴⁵ And the people said to Saul, "Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: As the LORD lives, not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day." Thus the people rescued Jonathan, so that he did not die.

⁴² And Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, for as much as both of us have sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, 'The LORD be between me and you, and between my seed and your seed forever.' " And he arose and departed: And Jonathan went into the city.

¹⁰ And Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, "As the LORD lives, no punishment shall happen to you for this thing."

⁵² And Solomon said, "If he will show himself a worthy man, there shall not a hair of him fall to the earth: But if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

² And you shall swear, 'The LORD lives', in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in Him, and in Him they shall glory."

³⁰ But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

³⁴ Therefore I urge you to take some food: Because this is for your health: For not a hair shall fall from the head of any of you."

²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, "Behold now, I have taken upon myself to speak to the LORD, who am but dust and ashes:

³² And he said, "Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will yet speak but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there." And He said, "I will not destroy it for ten's sake."

¹⁸ Then Judah came near to him, and said, "Oh my lord, let your servant, I implore you, speak a word in my lord's ears, and do not let your anger burn against your servant: For you are even as Pharaoh.

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously?

¹ Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You are permitted to speak for yourself." Then Paul stretched forth his hand, and answered for himself:

² And the chief of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.

⁸ Now therefore so shall you say to my servant David, Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:

⁷ And Nathan said to David, "You are the man. Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul;

³⁷ But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. ³⁸ So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

⁴⁰ And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, "So shall your judgment be; yourself have decided it. ⁴¹ And he hurried, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets. ⁴² And he said to him, "Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

⁴² And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me therefore, which of them will love him most?" ⁴³ Simon answered and said, "I suppose that the one to whom he forgave most." And He said to him, "You have rightly judged." ⁴⁴ Then He turned to the woman, and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, you gave Me no water for My feet: But she has washed My feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

¹³ And if a man does not lie in wait, but God delivers him into his hand; then I will appoint you a place where he shall flee.

⁴⁰ If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary to me;

¹⁵ These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: That everyone that kills any person unawares may flee thither.

²⁵ And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, where he had fled: And he shall abide in it to the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

²⁸ Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: But after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

¹⁷ For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regards not persons, nor takes reward:

²⁵ Then David said to the messenger, "Thus you shall say to Joab, Let not this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another: Make your battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: And encourage you him.

⁷ For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch of it will not cease. ⁸ Though its root wax old in the earth, and its stock die in the ground; ⁹ yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant. ¹⁰ But man dies, and wastes away: Yes, man gives up the ghost, and where is he? ¹¹ As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decays and dries up: ¹² So man lies down, and rises not: Till heaven be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

¹⁴ If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

¹⁵ all flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again to dust.

¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands.

¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint: My heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of My bowels.

⁷ Let them melt away as waters which run continually: When he bends his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.

³ They have shed their blood like water all around Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.

³ You turn man to destruction, and say, "Return, you children of men."

¹⁰ The days of our years are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their strength is labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

¹⁹ For that which befalls the sons of men befalls beasts; even one thing befalls them: As the one dies, so dies the other; yes, they all have one breath; so that a man has no preeminence above a beast: For all is vanity. ²⁰ All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

⁵ For the living know that they shall die: But the dead do not know anything, neither do they have any more reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

¹ Thus says the LORD, "Where is the bill of your mother's divorce, whom I have put away? Or which of My creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities you have sold yourselves, and for your transgressions your mother is put away. ² Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is My hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: Their fish stinks, because there is no water, and die for thirst.

¹⁶ And they sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; neither do you care for any man: For You do not regard the person of men.

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, "Truly I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

¹¹ For there is no reverence of persons with God.

²⁷ And as it is appointed to men once to die, but after this the judgment:

¹⁷ And if you call on the Father, who without reverence of persons judges according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

¹⁹ Now therefore, I implore you, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD has stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering: But if it is the children of men, cursed be them before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, 'Go, serve other gods.'

⁹ And Achish answered and said to David, "I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God: Notwithstanding, the princes of the Philistines have said, 'He shall not go up with us to the battle.'

²⁰ To fetch about this form of speech has your servant Joab done this thing: And my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.

²⁷ And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: Do therefore what is good in your eyes.

⁹ Give therefore your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and bad: For who is able to judge this your so great a people?

²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: For they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

³⁰ Is there iniquity in my tongue? Cannot my taste discern perverse things?

²¹ As the refining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.

⁵ A man that flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

¹⁴ But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: For they are foolishness to him: Neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged by no man.

¹⁴ But solid food belongs to those that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

¹⁷ And he said, "What is the thing that the LORD has said to you? I implore you do not hide it from me: God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that He said to you." ¹⁸ And Samuel told him every word, and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the LORD: Let Him do what seems good to Him."

¹⁴ Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: And the king said to Jeremiah, "I will ask you a thing; hide nothing from me."

²⁵ But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and say to you, 'Declare to us now what you have said to the king, do not hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you':

¹⁷ Let us pass, I implore you, through your country: We will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: We will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your borders.

³² You shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God has commanded you: You shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

¹⁴ And you shall not go aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand side, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

²⁶ And she said, "O, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman that stood by you here, praying to the LORD;

⁵⁵ And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the host, "Abner, whose son is this youth?" And Abner said, "As your soul lives, O king, I cannot tell."

³ And moreover David swore, and said, "Your father certainly knows that I have found grace in your eyes; and he says, 'Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved': But truly as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death."

²⁶ Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, seeing the LORD has withheld you from coming to shed blood, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now let your enemies, and those that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.

²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

²⁹ Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that has an issue, or that is a leper, or that leans on a staff, or that falls on the sword, or that lacks bread.

³⁴ Your hands were not bound, nor your feet put into fetters: As a man falls before wicked men, so fell you. And all the people wept again over him.

¹¹ And Uriah said to David, "The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.

¹⁴ And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, "Set you Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire you from him, that he may be smitten, and die.

³ And come to the king, and speak on this manner to him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.

⁵ Moreover you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet. ⁶ Do therefore according to your wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to the grave in peace.

² And Elijah said to Elisha, "Tarry here, I implore you; for the LORD has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said to him, "As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel.

²⁷ Do not turn to the right hand nor to the left: Remove your foot from evil.

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to speak against nor resist.

⁵ For God knows that in the day you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

²³ And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, "You shall not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come on them in front of the mulberry trees.

¹⁷ Then your handmaid said, "The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: For as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: Therefore the LORD your God will be with you.

²¹ Let me not, I implore you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles to man. ²² For I do not know to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.

¹⁶ Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the search of the depth? ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? ¹⁸ Have you perceived the breadth of the earth? Declare if you know it all. ¹⁹ Where is the way where light dwells? And as for darkness, where is its place, ²⁰ that you should take it to its bound, and that you should know the paths to its house? ²¹ Know you it, because you were then born? Or because the number of your days is great? ²² Have you entered into the treasures of the snow? Or have you seen the treasures of the hail, ²³ which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war? ²⁴ By what way is the light parted, which scatters the east wind on the earth? ²⁵ Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; ²⁶ to cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, in which there is no man; ²⁷ to satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? ²⁸ Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? ²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoary white frost of heaven, who has has gendered it? ³⁰ The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. ³¹ Can you bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? ³² Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? Or can you guide Arcturus with his sons? ³³ Know you the ordinances of heaven? Can you set its dominion in the earth? ³⁴ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you? ³⁵ Can you send lightning, that they may go and say to you, Here we are? ³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the heart? ³⁷ Who can number the clouds in wisdom? Or who can stay the bottles of heaven, ³⁸ when the dust grows into hardness, and the clods stuck fast together? ³⁹ Will you hunt the prey for the lion? Or fill the appetite of the young lions, ⁴⁰ when they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait? ⁴¹ Who provides for the raven his food? When his young ones cry to God, they wander for lack of meat.

²⁸ A lying tongue hates those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth works ruin.

¹ Now concerning things offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. ² And if any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

³⁹ For, as the LORD lives, which saves Israel, though it be through Jonathan my son, he shall surely die." But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.

¹¹ Then said she, I implore you, let the king remember the LORD your God, that you would not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, "As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of your son fall to the earth.

²⁶ And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for the sakes of those who sat with him, he would not reject her request.

⁸ But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

¹⁶ For in what shall it be known here that I and Your people have found grace in Your sight? Is it not in that You go with us? For this reason we shall be separated, I and Your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth." ¹⁷ And the LORD said to Moses, "I will also do this thing that you have spoken: For you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name."

² And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find grace." And she said to her, "Go, my daughter."

³⁹ And all the people went over the Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.

² And the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.

¹¹ When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

²⁸ Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.

³ and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

³ And Judah spoke to him, saying, "The man solemnly warned us, saying, 'You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.'

²⁸ And Pharaoh said to him, "Get away from me, take heed to yourself, see my face no more; for in that day you see my face you shall die."

¹³ And he said, "Well; I will make a league with you: But one thing I require of you, that is, You shall not see my face, except you first bring Michal Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face.

²⁸ So Absalom dwelled two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face.

⁴ And they shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads.

³⁵ The LORD shall smite you in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.

² And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and of a handsome form: And there was not a person among the children of Israel more handsome than he: From his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."

⁷ So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown.

³⁰ Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: They have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.

²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are similar to whitened sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

²⁷ that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

¹⁶ And Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.

³⁶ Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall you have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.

⁹ And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode on a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.

²⁴ And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a torn rope; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.

²⁰ Neither shall they shave their heads, nor allow their hair to grow long; they shall only trim their heads.

⁹ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Let it suffice you, O princes of Israel: Remove violence and spoil, and execute judgment and justice, take away your exactions from My people", says the Lord GOD. ¹⁰ "You shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath. ¹¹ The ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain the tenth part of a homer, and the ephah the tenth part of a homer: its measure shall be according to the homer. ¹² And the shekel shall be twenty gerahs: Twenty shekels, twenty-five shekels, fifteen shekels, shall be your maneh. ¹³ This is the oblation that you shall offer; the sixth part of an ephah of a homer of wheat, and you shall give the sixth part of an ephah of a homer of barley: ¹⁴ Concerning the ordinance of oil, the bath of oil, you shall offer the tenth part of a bath out of the cor, which is a homer of ten baths; for ten baths are a homer:

¹⁴ Does not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man has long hair, it is a shame to him?

¹ And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

¹⁸ Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's valley: For he said, "I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: And he called the pillar after his own name: And it is called to this day, Absalom's place.

¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off. ¹⁷ His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

²² For I will rise up against them", says the LORD of hosts, and cut off the name from Babylon, and remnant, and son, and nephew", says the LORD.

³⁰ Thus says the LORD, 'Write down this man as childless, a man who shall not prosper in his days: For no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting on the throne of David, and ruling anymore in Judah.' "

³⁰ Therefore he said to his servants, See, Joab's field is near mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom's servants set the field on fire. ³¹ Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom to his house, and said to him, "Why have your servants set my field on fire?

¹² But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: Therefore the king was very wroth, and his anger burned in him.

³ and sent forth his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding: And they would not come.

⁴ And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the middle between two tails. ⁵ And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing ears of grain of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing ears of grain, with the vineyards and olives.

²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: Have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant. ²⁹ And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got him up on his mule, and fled.

⁹ And she wrote in the letters, saying, "Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people: ¹⁰ And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, "You did blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die. ¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: And the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, "Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

³³ And he said, "Throw her down. So they threw her down: And some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: And he stepped her under foot.

⁶ Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, "If you be mine, and if you will listen to my voice, take you the heads of the men your master's sons, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time. Now the king's sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up. ⁷ And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.

¹² And the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate."

¹² Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?' For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness."

³ And the children of Israel said to them, "We wish to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

³ And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Is it for this reason that you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our domestic beasts with thirst?"

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul: And Saul said to him, "Blessed be you of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD."

⁸ Therefore you shall deal kindly with your servant; for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the LORD with you: Notwithstanding, if there is iniquity in me, slay me yourself; for why should you bring me to your father?"

² For he flatters himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity is found to be hateful.

¹³ He that covers his sins shall not prosper: But whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.

²² For though you wash yourself with nitre, and take much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me", said the Lord GOD. ²³ "How can you say, 'I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim?' See your way in the valley, know what you have done: You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

¹² Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: Therefore they shall fall among those who fall: In the time of their visitation they shall be cast down", said the LORD.

⁴⁴ Then they also shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to You?'

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law says, it says to those who are under the law: That every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

²⁶ And his father Isaac said to him, "Come near now, and kiss me, my son."

⁴ And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: And they wept.

¹⁵ Moreover he kissed all his brothers, and wept upon them: And after that his brothers talked with him.

²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
