⁷ And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said to the king, I implore you, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron.

¹ And the LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: For I have provided Me a king among his sons." ² And Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears of it, he will kill me." And the LORD said, "Take a heifer with you, and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.'

¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers: And the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

²⁴ And Absalom came to the king, and said, "Behold now, your servant has sheep shearers; let the king, I beseech you, and his servants go with your servant. ²⁵ And the king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable to you. And he pressed him: However, he would not go, but blessed him. ²⁶ Then said Absalom, If not, I implore you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

³⁸ So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: How much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind?

⁴ Behold, you fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: You shall not fast as you do this day, to make your voice heard on high.

⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young Child; and when you have found Him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship Him also."

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.
