¹ He that dashes in pieces has come up before your face: Keep the fortification, watch the way, make your loins strong, fortify your power mightily.

⁸ But if you will go, do it; be strong for the battle: God shall make you fall before the enemy: For God has power to help, and to cast down.

⁶ He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

³ "Order the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. ⁴ Harness the horses; and get up you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the body armor. ⁵ Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back away? And their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled quickly, and do not look back: For fear was all around", said the LORD. ⁶ "Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates. ⁷ Who is this who comes up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers? ⁸ Egypt rises up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he said, 'I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.' ⁹ Come up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, who handle the shield; and the Lydians, who handle and bend the bow. ¹⁰ For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of his adversaries: And the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: For the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

²³ How the hammer of the whole earth is cut asunder and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!

¹¹ Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: The LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: For His device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of His temple. ¹² Set up the standard on the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: For the LORD has both devised and done that which He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.

²⁰ "You are my battle ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break in pieces the nations, and with you will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you I will break in pieces the chariot and his rider; ²² with you I will also break in pieces man and woman; and with you I will break in pieces old and young; and with you I will break in pieces the young man and the maid; ²³ I will also break in pieces with you the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will break in pieces captains and rulers.

⁹ Proclaim this among the Gentiles; "Prepare war", wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: ¹⁰ Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning-hooks into spears: Let the weak say, "I am strong." ¹¹ Assemble yourselves, and come, all you heathen, and gather yourselves together all around: Cause Your mighty ones to come down to that place, O LORD.

¹⁴ Draw yourself waters for the siege, fortify your strongholds: Go into clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brick kiln. ¹⁵ There the fire shall devour you; the sword shall cut you off, it shall eat you up like the cankerworm: Make yourself many as the cankerworm, make yourself many as the locusts.
