² Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, which are ready to die; for I have not found thy works compleat before my God.

² Therefore when thou dost alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward. ³ But when thou dost alms, let not thy left-hand know what thy right-hand doth: ⁴ That thy alms may be in secret, and thy father who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

⁵ But all their works they do, to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and inlarge the fringes of their garments.

²⁸ So ye likewise outwardly appear righteous to men; but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. ²⁹ Wo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye build the tombs of the prophets, and adorn the sepulchres of the righteous. ³⁰ And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ Wherefore ye testify against yourselves, that ye are the sons of them who killed the prophets. ³² Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. Ye serpents, ye brood of vipers, ³³ how can ye escape the damnation of hell? ³⁴ Wherefore behold I send to you prophets, and wise-men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous, to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them who are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a bird gathereth her young under her wings; and ye would not! ³⁸ Behold your house is left unto you desolate.

⁴² Watch therefore; for ye know not what hour your Lord cometh. ⁴³ But ye know this, that if the housholder had known, in what watch the thief would have come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broke open. ⁴⁴ Therefore be ye also ready: for at an hour ye think not, the Son of man cometh. ⁴⁵ Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord hath appointed ruler over his houshold, to give them food in due season? ⁴⁶ Happy is that servant, whom his Lord coming shall find so doing. ⁴⁷ Verily I say to you, he will make him ruler over all his goods. ⁴⁸ But if that evil servant say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming: ⁴⁹ And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken: ⁵⁰ The Lord of that servant shall come in a day that he expecteth him not, and in an hour that he is not aware of, ⁵¹ And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping, and gnashing of teeth.

¹³ Watch therefore; for ye know not the day nor the hour.

³³ Take heed; watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. ³⁴ For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the porter to watch. ³⁵ Watch ye therefore; for ye know not when the master of the house cometh; at evening, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or in the morning: ³⁶ Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. ³⁷ And what I say to you, I say to all, Watch.

³¹ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he might sift you as wheat. ³² But I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not: and when thou art returned, strengthen thy brethren.

²³ And having spent some time there, he departed, and went over the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, confirming all the disciples.

²⁸ Take heed therefore to yourselves and to the whole flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. ²⁹ For I know this, that after my departure grievous wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ Yea, from among yourselves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. ³¹ Therefore watch, remembering that for three years, I ceased not to warn every one, night and day, with tears.

¹ I charge thee therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the quick and dead at his appearing and his kingdom, Preach the word; ² be instant in season, out of season; convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching. ³ For the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine, but will heap to themselves teachers, according to their own desires, having itching ears. ⁴ And they will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn aside to fables.

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

⁸ for your adversary the devil, walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour:

⁴ But I have against thee, that thou hast left thy first love.
