Proverbs 20

ECB(i) 1 Wine scorns; intoxicants roar; and whoever errs inadvertently enwisens not. 2 The terror of a sovereign is as a growling whelp; whoever enrages him sins against his own soul. 3 Honor to the man who shabbathizes from strife; and every fool quarrels. 4 The sloth plows not in winter; he asks in harvest and has naught. 5 Counsel in the heart of man is as deep water; and the man of discernment bails. 6 An abundance of humanity each calls out his own mercy; and a man of trust, who finds? 7 The just walks in his integrity; his sons are blithe after him. 8 A sovereign who settles in the throne of pleading winnows all evil with his eyes. 9 Who says, I purified my heart; I am purified from my sin? 10 A stone and a stone; an ephah and an ephah: yes, both are abhorrence to Yah Veh. 11 Even a lad is recognized by his exploits, whether his deeds are pure; whether straight. 12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye, Yah Veh worked even both. 13 Love not sleep, lest you become dispossessed; open your eyes and become satisfied with bread. 14 Evil, evil! says the chattelizer; and when he gads about, he halals. 15 There is gold and an abundance of pearls; and the lips of knowledge are an esteemed instrument. 16 Take his clothes, who pledges for a stranger; and pledge him for a stranger. 17 Bread of falsehood is pleasant to a man; and afterward his mouth is filled with gravel. 18 Every fabrication is established by counsel; and with counsels, work war. 19 A talebearer exposes private counsel; meddle not with him who entices with his lips. 20 Whoever abases his father or his mother, extinguishes his lamp in mid darkness. 21 An inheritance first obtained by avarice; is not blessed at its finality. 22 Say not, I shalam for evil; await Yah Veh and he saves you. 23 A stone and a stone are an abhorrence to Yah Veh; and balances of deceit are not good. 24 The paces of the mighty are of Yah Veh; how discerns a human his own way? 25 It is a snare to the human who hastily chews what is holy and vows to search afterward. 26 A wise sovereign winnows the wicked and turns the wheel over them. 27 The breath of humanity is the lamp of Yah Veh, searching all the chambers of the belly. 28 Mercy and truth guard the sovereign; and upholds his throne by mercy. 29 The beauty of youths is their force; and the majesty of elders is the greyness. 30 The lashes of a wound purify evil; thus strokes the inward parts of the belly.
