Matthew 5:4-7:29

Matthew(i) 4 Blessed are they that morne, for they shalbe comforted. 5 Blessed are the meke: for they shall inheret the earth. 6 Blessed are they which honger & thurste for rightuousnes: for they shalbe filled. 7 Blessed are the mercifull: for they shal obtaine mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in hert: for thei shal se God. 9 Blessed are the peace makers: for thei shalbe called the children of God. 10 Blessed are they which suffer persecucion for rightuousnesse sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heauen: 11 Blessed are ye when men reuile you and persecute you, and shal falsely say al maner of yuel sayinges against you for my sake. 12 Reioyce & be glad, for great is your reward in heauen. For so persecuted they the prophetes which were before your dayes. 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but & if the salt haue lost her saltnes, what can be salted therwith? It is thensforth good for nothinge, but to be cast out, and to be troden vnder fote of men. 14 Ye are the light of the worlde. A cytye that is set on an hill, can not be hid, 15 neither do men light a candell & put it vnder a bushell, but on a candelsticke, and it lighteth al that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shyne before men that they maye se your good workes, and gloryfye your father which is in heauen. 17 Thinke not that I am come to destroy the lawe, or the prophetes: no I am not come to destroy them, but to fulfil them. 18 For truly I say vnto you, til heauen & earth perish, one iote or one title of the lawe shal not escape, til al be fulfilled 19 Whosoeuer therfore breaketh one of these lest commaundementes, & teacheth men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdome of heauen. But whosoeuer obserueth & teacheth, the same shal be called great in the kingdom of heauen. 20 For I say vnto you except your rightuousnes excede, the rightuousnes of the scribes & phariseis, ye can not entre into the kingdom of heauen. 21 Ye haue heard howe it was said vnto them of the olde time: Thou shalt not kil. For whosoeuer killeth, shal be in daunger of iudgement, 22 but I sai vnto yow, whosoeuer is angre wt his brother without a cause shal be in daunger of iudgement. Whosoeuer saieth to his brother Racha, shalbe in daunger of a counsel. But whosoeuer saieth thou fole, shalbe in daunger of hel fire 23 Therefore when thou offrest thy gift at the altare, & their remembrest that thy brother hath ought against the: 24 leue there thy offringe before the altare, & go thy way first & be reconciled to thy brother, & then come and offre thy gift. 25 Agre with thine aduersary quickly, whiles thou art in the way wt him, lest the aduersary deliuer the to the iudge, & the iudge deliuer the to the minister, & then thou be cast into prison. 26 I say vnto the verely: thou shalt not come out thence tyl thou haue payed the vttermost farthing. 27 Ye haue heard how it was sayed to them of olde time: Thou shalt not commit adultery. 28 But I saye vnto you, that whosoeuer loketh on a wife, lustinge after her, hath committed adulterye with her alredy in his herte 29 Wherfore if thy ryght eye offende the plucke him out, & cast him from the. Better it is for the that one of thy members perishe, then that thy whol body should be cast into hel. 30 Also if thy right hand offende the, cut him of & cast him from the. Better it is that one of thy members perish, then that all thy body should be cast into hel. 31 It is sayed, whosoeuer putteth a way his wife, let him geue her a testimonial of the deuorcement. 32 But I sai vnto you: whosoeuer putteth away his wife (except it be for fornicacion) causeth her to breke matrimony. And whosoeuer marieth her that is deuorced, breaketh wedlocke. 33 Agayne ye haue hearde how it was sayed to them of olde time, thou shalt not forsweare thy self, but shalt performe thine othe to God. 34 But I saye vnto you, swere not at al, neither by heauen, for it is Goddes seate: 35 nor yet by the earth, for it is his fotstole: neither by Ierusalem for it is the citye of the great kinge 36 neither shalt thou sweare by thy head, because thou canst not make one whyte hear, or blacke. 37 But your communicacion shalbe, yea, yea: nay, nay. For whatsoeuer is more than that cometh to euell. 38 Ye haue hearde how it is sayed, an eye for an eye: a tothe for a tothe. 39 But I saye to you that ye resyst not wrong. But who soeuer geue the a blowe on the right cheke, tourne to hym the other. 40 And if anye man wyll sue the at the lawe, and take awaye thy coote, let hym haue thy clooke also. 41 And whosoeuer wyll compell the to goo a myle, goo with hym twaine. 42 Geue to hym that axeth, & from him that woulde borow tourne not away. 43 Ye haue hearde how it is said: thou shalt loue thy neighbour, and hate thyne enemy. 44 But I say vnto you loue your enemies. Blesse theim that cursse you. Do good to them that hate you. Pray for them which doo you wronge and persecute you, 45 that ye may be the chyldren of youre father that is in heauen: for he maketh his sonne to aryse on the yuyll, and on the good and sendeth his raine on the iust and vniust. 46 For if ye loue them, whiche loue you: what rewarde shall ye haue? Doo not the publicanes euen so? 47 And if ye be frendly to your brethren only what synguler thinge doo ye? Do not the publycanes likewyses? 48 Ye shall therfore be perfect, euen as your father which is in heauen, is perfect. 6 1 Take hede to your almes, that ye geue it not in the sight of men, to the intent that ye would be sene of them. Or els ye get no rewarde of youre father whyche is in heauen. 2 Whensoeuer therfore thou geuest thime almes, thou shalt not make a trompet to be blowen before the, as the hypocrytes do in the synagoges and in the stretes, for to be praised of men. Verely I saye vnto you, they haue their rewarde. 3 But when thou doest thine almes, let not thy lyft hande knowe what thy ryght hande doth, 4 that thyne almes may be secrete: and thy father whiche seeth in secrete, shall rewarde the openly. 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hipocrites are. For they loue to stande and praye in the sinagoges, and in the corners of the stretes, and because they wolde be seane of men. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde. 6 But when thou prayest, entre into thy chamber, & shut thy dore to the, & praie to thi father which is in secrete: & thy father which seeth in secrete, shall rewarde the openlye. 7 But when ye praye, bable not much as the Heathen do: for they thinke that they shalbe herde, for their muche bablynge sake. 8 Be ye not lyke them therfore. For your father knoweth wherof ye haue neade, before ye axe of him 9 after this manner therfore pray ye. Our father which art in heauen, halowed be thy name. 10 Let thy kingdome come. Thy wyll be fulfylled, as well in earth, as it is in heauen. 11 Geue vs this daye our daylye breade. 12 And forgeue vs our trespases, euen as we forgeue oure trespasers. 13 And lead vs not into temptaciou. But delyuer vs from euyll. For thyne is the kingdome and the power, and the glorye for euer Amen. 14 For and if ye shall forgeue other men their trespases, your heauenlye father shall also forgeue you. 15 But and ye wyll not forgeue men theyr trespases, no more shall your father forgeue your trespases. 16 Moreouer when ye fast, be not sad as the hipocrites are. For they disfygure their faces, that they myght be sene of men how they fast. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde. 17 But thou, when thou fastest, annoint thine head, & wash thy face 18 that it appeare not vnto men howe that thou fastest but vnto thy father which is in secrete: & thy father which seth in secret shal reward the openly. 19 Se that ye gater you not treasure vpon the earth, where ruste & mothes corrupte, & wher theues breake throughe & steale. 20 But gather ye treasure together in heauen, where neither rust nor mothes corrupt, & where theues neyther breake vp nor yet steale. 21 For wher soeuer your treasur is, ther wyl your hertes be also. 22 The lyght of thy body is thine eye. Wherfore if thine eye be single, al thy bodye shalbe full of light. 23 But and if thyne eye be wycked then al thy bodye shalbe ful of darkenes. Wherfore if the light that is in the, be darkenes: how great is that darckenes? 24 No man can serue two maysters. For eyther he shall hate the one & loue the other: yea or eles he shall leane to the one & dispise the other. Ye cannot serue God & Mammon. 25 Therfore I saie vnto you, be not tareful for you life what ye shall eate or what ye shall dryncke, nor yet for your bodye, what ye shall put on, is not the lyfe more worthe then meate, and the body more of value then rayment? 26 Behold the foules of the ayer: for the sowe not, neyther reape, nor yet cary into the barnes: and yet your heauenlye father fedethe them. Are ye not muche better then they? 27 Whych of you (though he toke thoughte therfore) coulde put one cubit vnto hys statuture? 28 And why care ye then for rayment? Considre the lylies of the filde, howe they growe. They laboureth not nether spynne. 29 And yet for all that I saye vnto you that euen Solomon in all hys royaltie was not arayed lyke vnto one of these. 30 Wherfore if God so clothe the grasse, which is to day in the felde, and to morowe shall be cast in to the fournace: shall he not much more do the same vnto you, o ye of lytle fayth? 31 Therfore take no thought saiynge: what shall we eate, or what shall we dryncke, or wherewith shal we be clothed? 32 After all these thynges seke the gentils. For your heauenlye father knoweth that ye haue neade of all these thynges. 33 But rather seke ye first the kyngdome of heauen and the rightuousnes therof, & all these thynge shalbe ministred vnto you. 34 Care not then for the morow, but let the morow care for itself: for the day present hath euer ynough of his owne trouble. 7 1 Ivdge not, that ye be not iudged. 2 For as ye iudge so, shall ye be iudged. And with what measur ye meate, with the same shal it be measured to you agayne. 3 Why seiste thou a moote in thy brothers eye, & perceyuest not the beame that is in thyne owne eye? 4 Or why saist thou to thy brother: suffer me to plucke out the moote out of thyne eye, & beholde a beame is in thyne owne eye? 5 Hypocrite, first caste out the beame out of thyne owne eye, and then shalte thou se clearelye to plucke out the moote out of thy brothers eye. 6 Geue not that whiche is holye, to dogges nether cast ye your pearles before swyne, lest they treade them vnder theyr feete, and the other tourne agayne and al to rent you. 7 Axe and it shalbe geuen you. Seke and ye shall fynde. Knocke & it shalbe opened vnto you. 8 For whosoeuer axeth receyueth, and he that seketh fyndethe, and to hym that knocketh, it shalbe opened. 9 Ys there any man amonge you whiche if his sonne axed hym bread, would offer him a stone? 10 Or if he axed fyshe, woulde he profer him a serpente? 11 Yf ye then whyche are euyll, can geue to youre chyldren good gyftes: howe muche more shall your father whiche is in heauen, geue good thinges to them that axe hym? 12 Therfore whatsoeuer ye woulde that men shoulde do to you, euen so do ye to them. Thys is the lawe and the Prophetes. 13 Enter in at the strayte gate: for wide is the gate and broade is the way that leadeth to destruction: and many there be whiche go in therat. 14 But strayt is the gate, and narrowe is the waye which leadeth vnto lyfe: & feawe there be that fynde it. 15 Beware of false Prophetes, whiche come to you in shepes clothing, but inwardly they are rauenynge wolues. 16 Ye shall knowe them by their fruites. Do men gaddre grapes of thornes? or figges of bryers? 17 Euen so euery good tre bryngeth forth good fruite. But a corrupt tree, bringeth forth euyll fruyte. 18 A good tree can not bringe forthe bad fruyte: nor yet a bad tree can bringe forth good fruite. 19 Euery tree that bryngeth not forthe good fruite shalbe hewen downe, and cast into the fyre. 20 Wherfore by theyr fruytes ye shal knowe them. 21 Not al they that saye vnto me, Maister Maister, shal enter into the kingdome of heauen: but he that doeth my fathers will which is in heauen. 22 Many will saye to me in that daye: Maister, maister, haue we not in thy name prophesied? And in thy name haue cast out deuylles? And in thy name haue done many miracles? 23 And then will I knowledge vnto them, that I neuer knewe them. Departe from me, ye workers of iniquitie. 24 Whosoeuer heareth of me these sayinges and doethe the same, I wyll lyken hym vnto a wyse man which buylt hys housse on a rocke 25 and aboundaunce of rayne descended, and the flouddes came, and the windes blew and bet vpon that same housse, and it fell not because it was grounded on the rocke. 26 And whosoeuer heareth of me these sayinges and doeth them not, shalbe lykened vnto a folyshe man whyche buylt hys housse vpon the sande 27 and abundance of rayne descended, and the floudes came, and the wyndes blewe and bet vpon that housse, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. 28 And it came to passe, that when Iesus had ended these saynges, the people were astonyed at his doctrine. 29 For he taught them as one hauing power, and not as the Scribes.
