He took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag. His sling was in his hand as he drew near to the Philistine.
With a man carrying his shield in front of him, the Philistine kept coming closer to David.
When he looked at David he despised him, for he was only a youth, ruddy and handsome.
The Philistine said to David, Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks? The Philistine cursed David by his gods.
said to David, "Come to me! I'll give your flesh to the birds of the sky and to the beasts of the field."
Then David said to the Philistine, You come against me with a sword, a spear and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
Today the LORD shall shut you up into my hand, and I shall strike you, and take off your head from you and give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the earth today. And all the earth shall know that there is a God for Israel.
and all this assembly do know that not by sword and by spear does the LORD save, that the battle [is] the LORD's, and He has given you into our hand..
When the Philistine came closer to attack David, David ran quickly towards the Philistine army.
He put his hand into his bag, took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead and he fell on his face to the ground.
So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him without a sword in his hand.
David ran and stood over the Philistine. He took the Philistine's sword, pulled it from its sheath, killed him, and then he cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
