¹⁷ οὐ (Not yet) νοεῖτε (understand you) ὅτι (that) πᾶν (everything) τὸ (-) εἰσπορευόμενον (entering) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth), εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κοιλίαν (stomach) χωρεῖ (goes), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ἀφεδρῶνα (the sewer) ἐκβάλλεται (is cast out)?

²⁰ ταῦτά (These) ἐστιν (are) τὰ (the things) κοινοῦντα (defiling) τὸν (the) ἄνθρωπον (man); τὸ (-) δὲ (but) ἀνίπτοις (with unwashed) χερσὶν (hands) φαγεῖν (to eat), οὐ (not) κοινοῖ (defiles) τὸν (the) ἄνθρωπον (man).”

¹⁹ ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) εἰσπορεύεται (it enters) αὐτοῦ (of him) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart), ἀλλ’ (but) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κοιλίαν (belly), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) ἀφεδρῶνα (sewer) ἐκπορεύεται (goes out)?”— καθαρίζων (purifying) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) βρώματα (food).

²⁷ ἐργάζεσθε (Work) μὴ (not for) τὴν (the) βρῶσιν (food) τὴν (that) ἀπολλυμένην (is perishing), ἀλλὰ (but for) τὴν (the) βρῶσιν (food) τὴν (-) μένουσαν (enduring) εἰς (unto) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal), ἣν (which) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ὑμῖν (to you) δώσει (will give). τοῦτον (Him) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἐσφράγισεν (has sealed), ὁ (-) Θεός (God).”

⁴⁹ οἱ (The) πατέρες (fathers) ὑμῶν (of You) ἔφαγον (ate) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (wilderness) τὸ (the) μάννα (manna), καὶ (and) ἀπέθανον (died).

¹² Μὴ (Not) οὖν (therefore) βασιλευέτω (let reign) ἡ (-) ἁμαρτία (sin) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) θνητῷ (mortal) ὑμῶν (of you) σώματι (body), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) ὑπακούειν (to obey) ταῖς (the) ἐπιθυμίαις (desires) αὐτοῦ (of it).

⁴ Ὥστε (Likewise), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me), καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐθανατώθητε (have been put to death) τῷ (to the) νόμῳ (law) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) σώματος (body) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) γενέσθαι (to belong) ὑμᾶς (you) ἑτέρῳ (to another), τῷ (to the One) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἐγερθέντι (having been raised), ἵνα (so that) καρποφορήσωμεν (we should bear fruit) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God).

¹ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) οὖν (therefore) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), διὰ (through) τῶν (the) οἰκτιρμῶν (compassions) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), παραστῆσαι (to present) τὰ (the) σώματα (bodies) ὑμῶν (of you) θυσίαν (a sacrifice) ζῶσαν (living), ἁγίαν (holy), «τῷ (-) Θεῷ» (to God) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing), τὴν (which is) λογικὴν (the reasonable) λατρείαν (service) ὑμῶν (of you).

⁷ Οὐδεὶς (No one) γὰρ (for) ἡμῶν (of us) ἑαυτῷ (to himself) ζῇ (lives), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἑαυτῷ (to himself) ἀποθνῄσκει (dies). ⁸ ἐάν (If) τε (both) γὰρ (for) ζῶμεν (we should live), τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) ζῶμεν (we live); ἐάν (if) τε (also) ἀποθνήσκωμεν (we should die), τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) ἀποθνήσκομεν (we die). ἐάν (If) τε (both) οὖν (therefore) ζῶμεν (we should live), ἐάν (if) τε (also) ἀποθνήσκωμεν (we should die), τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord’s) ἐσμέν (we are). ⁹ εἰς (Unto) τοῦτο (this) γὰρ (for), Χριστὸς (Christ) ἀπέθανεν (died) καὶ (and) ἔζησεν (lived again), ἵνα (that) καὶ (both the) νεκρῶν (dead) καὶ (and) ζώντων (living) κυριεύσῃ (He might rule over).

¹⁷ οὐ (Not) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) βρῶσις (eating) καὶ (and) πόσις (drinking), ἀλλὰ (but) δικαιοσύνη (righteousness) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) καὶ (and) χαρὰ (joy) ἐν (in the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy).

¹⁶ Οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ναὸς (temple) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐστε (you yourselves are), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) «ἐν (in) ὑμῖν» (you) οἰκεῖ (dwells)?

¹⁵ Οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) τὰ (the) σώματα (bodies) ὑμῶν (of you) μέλη (members) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) ἐστιν (are)? ἄρας (Having taken) οὖν (then) τὰ (the) μέλη (members) τοῦ (of the) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ποιήσω (shall I make) πόρνης (them of a prostitute) μέλη (members)? μὴ (Never) γένοιτο (may it be)!

¹⁹ ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) ὑμῶν (of you) ναὸς (a temple) τοῦ (of the) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματός (Spirit) ἐστιν (is), οὗ (whom) ἔχετε (you have) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God)? καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (you are) ἑαυτῶν (your own),

³ καὶ (and) πάντες (all) τὸ (the) αὐτὸ (same) πνευματικὸν (spiritual) βρῶμα (food) ἔφαγον (ate), ⁴ καὶ (and) πάντες (all) τὸ (the) αὐτὸ (same) πνευματικὸν (spiritual) ἔπιον (drank) πόμα (drink); ἔπινον (they were drinking) γὰρ (for) ἐκ (from) πνευματικῆς (the spiritual) ἀκολουθούσης (accompanying them) πέτρας (rock); ἡ (the) πέτρα (rock) δὲ (then) ἦν (was) ὁ (-) Χριστός (Christ). ⁵ ἀλλ’ (Nevertheless) οὐκ (not) ἐν (with) τοῖς (-) πλείοσιν (most) αὐτῶν (of them) εὐδόκησεν (was well pleased) ὁ (-) Θεός (God); κατεστρώθησαν (they were strewn) γὰρ (for) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (wilderness).

¹⁵ καὶ (And) ὑπὲρ (for) πάντων (all) ἀπέθανεν (He died), ἵνα (that) οἱ (those) ζῶντες (living), μηκέτι (no longer) ἑαυτοῖς (to themselves) ζῶσιν (should live), ἀλλὰ (but) τῷ (to the One) ὑπὲρ (for) αὐτῶν (them) ἀποθανόντι (having died) καὶ (and) ἐγερθέντι (having been raised again).

² ζηλῶ (I am jealous as to) γὰρ (for) ὑμᾶς (you) Θεοῦ (of God) ζήλῳ (with the jealousy); ἡρμοσάμην (I have betrothed) γὰρ (for) ὑμᾶς (you) ἑνὶ (to one) ἀνδρὶ (husband), παρθένον (a virgin) ἁγνὴν (pure) παραστῆσαι (to present) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (to Christ).

²³ ὅτι (for) ἀνήρ (the husband) ἐστιν (is) κεφαλὴ (head) τῆς (of the) γυναικὸς (wife), ὡς (as) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) κεφαλὴ (is the head) τῆς (of the) ἐκκλησίας (church), αὐτὸς (He Himself) σωτὴρ (Savior) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body).

²² ἅ (which) ἐστιν (are) πάντα (all) εἰς (unto) φθορὰν (decay) τῇ (with the) ἀποχρήσει (use), κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἐντάλματα (commandments) καὶ (and) διδασκαλίας (teachings) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of men), ²³ ἅτινά (which) ἐστιν (are) λόγον (an appearance) μὲν (indeed) ἔχοντα (having) σοφίας (of wisdom), ἐν (in) ἐθελοθρησκίᾳ (self-imposed worship) καὶ (and) ταπεινοφροσύνῃ (humility) καὶ (and) ἀφειδίᾳ (harsh treatment) σώματος (of the body), οὐκ (not) ἐν (of) τιμῇ (honor) τινι (a certain), πρὸς (against) πλησμονὴν (the indulgence) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh).

³ Τοῦτο (This) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) θέλημα (the will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὁ (the) ἁγιασμὸς (sanctification) ὑμῶν (of you): ἀπέχεσθαι (To abstain) ὑμᾶς (you are) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) πορνείας (sexual immorality); ⁴ εἰδέναι (to know) ἕκαστον (each) ὑμῶν (of you how) τὸ (the) ἑαυτοῦ (of himself) σκεῦος (vessel) κτᾶσθαι (to control) ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (holiness) καὶ (and) τιμῇ (honor), ⁵ μὴ (not) ἐν (in) πάθει (the passion) ἐπιθυμίας (of lust), καθάπερ (as) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles), τὰ (-) μὴ (not) εἰδότα (knowing) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God); ⁶ τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ὑπερβαίνειν (to go beyond) καὶ (and) πλεονεκτεῖν (to overreach) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πράγματι (matter), τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), διότι (because) ἔκδικος (avenging is) Κύριος (the Lord) περὶ (concerning) πάντων (all) τούτων (these things), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) προείπαμεν (we told before) ὑμῖν (you), καὶ (and) διεμαρτυράμεθα (thoroughly warned). ⁷ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἐκάλεσεν (has called) ἡμᾶς (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐπὶ (to) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (impurity), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (into) ἁγιασμῷ (holiness).
