¹ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Ἀνένδεκτόν (Impossible) ἐστιν (it is) τοῦ (for) τὰ (the) σκάνδαλα (stumbling blocks) μὴ (not) ἐλθεῖν (to come), πλὴν* (but) οὐαὶ (woe to him) δι’ (by) οὗ (whom) ἔρχεται (they come)! ² λυσιτελεῖ (It is better) αὐτῷ (for him) εἰ (if) λίθος (a stone) μυλικὸς (of a mill) περίκειται (is hung) περὶ (around) τὸν (the) τράχηλον (neck) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) ἔρριπται (he is thrown) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea), ἢ (than) ἵνα (that) σκανδαλίσῃ (he should cause to stumble) τῶν (-) μικρῶν (little) τούτων (of these) ἕνα (one). ³ Προσέχετε (Take heed) ἑαυτοῖς (to yourselves). ἐὰν (If) ἁμάρτῃ (should sin) ὁ (the) ἀδελφός (brother) σου (of you), ἐπιτίμησον (rebuke) αὐτῷ (him); καὶ (and) ἐὰν (if) μετανοήσῃ (he should repent), ἄφες (forgive) αὐτῷ (him). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) ἑπτάκις (seven times) τῆς (in the) ἡμέρας (day) ἁμαρτήσῃ (he should sin) εἰς (against) σὲ (you), καὶ (and) ἑπτάκις (seven times) ἐπιστρέψῃ (should return) πρὸς (to) σὲ (you), λέγων (saying) ‘Μετανοῶ (I repent),’ ἀφήσεις (you shall forgive) αὐτῷ (him).” ⁵ Καὶ (And) εἶπαν (said) οἱ (the) ἀπόστολοι (apostles) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord), “Πρόσθες (Add) ἡμῖν (to us) πίστιν (faith)!” ⁶ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord), “Εἰ (If) ἔχετε (you have) πίστιν (faith) ὡς (like) κόκκον (a grain) σινάπεως (of mustard), ἐλέγετε (you would have said) ἂν (-) τῇ (to the) συκαμίνῳ (mulberry tree) ταύτῃ (this), ‘Ἐκριζώθητι (Be uprooted) καὶ (and) φυτεύθητι (be planted) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θαλάσσῃ (sea),’ καὶ (and) ὑπήκουσεν (it would have obeyed) ἂν (-) ὑμῖν (you). ⁷ Τίς (Which) δὲ (now) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you) δοῦλον (a servant) ἔχων (having), ἀροτριῶντα (plowing) ἢ (or) ποιμαίνοντα (shepherding), ὃς (the one) εἰσελθόντι (having come in) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) ἀγροῦ (field), ἐρεῖ (will say) αὐτῷ (to him), ‘Εὐθέως (Immediately) παρελθὼν (having come), ἀνάπεσε (recline)?’ ⁸ ἀλλ’ (But) οὐχὶ (not) ἐρεῖ (will he say) αὐτῷ (to him), ‘Ἑτοίμασον (Prepare) τί (what) δειπνήσω (I may eat), καὶ (and) περιζωσάμενος (having girded yourself about), διακόνει (serve) μοι (me) ἕως (while) φάγω (I eat) καὶ (and) πίω (drink); καὶ (and) μετὰ (after) ταῦτα (these things) φάγεσαι (shall eat) καὶ (and) πίεσαι (drink) σύ (you)?’ ⁹ μὴ (Not) ἔχει (is he) χάριν (thankful) τῷ (to the) δούλῳ (servant) ὅτι (because) ἐποίησεν (he did) τὰ (the things) διαταχθέντα (having been commanded)? ¹⁰ οὕτως (Thus) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you), ὅταν (when) ποιήσητε (you may have done) πάντα (all) τὰ (the things) διαταχθέντα (having been commanded) ὑμῖν (you), λέγετε (say) ὅτι (-), ‘Δοῦλοι (Servants) ἀχρεῖοί (unworthy) ἐσμεν (are we); ὃ (that which) ὠφείλομεν (we were bound) ποιῆσαι (to do), πεποιήκαμεν (we have done).’” ¹¹ Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πορεύεσθαι (going up) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) καὶ (that) αὐτὸς (He) διήρχετο (was passing) διὰ (through) μέσον (the midst) Σαμαρείας (of Samaria) καὶ (and) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee). ¹² καὶ (And) εἰσερχομένου (on entering) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἴς (into) τινα (a certain) κώμην (village), ἀπήντησαν (met) [αὐτῷ] (Him) δέκα (ten) λεπροὶ (leprous) ἄνδρες (men), οἳ (who) ἔστησαν (stood) πόρρωθεν (afar off). ¹³ καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) ἦραν (lifted up) φωνὴν (their voice), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), Ἐπιστάτα (Master), ἐλέησον (have compassion on) ἡμᾶς (us).” ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen them), εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Πορευθέντες (Having gone), ἐπιδείξατε (show) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) τοῖς (to the) ἱερεῦσιν (priests).” καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὑπάγειν (going) αὐτοὺς (them), ἐκαθαρίσθησαν (they were cleansed). ¹⁵ Εἷς (One) δὲ (then) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them), ἰδὼν (having seen) ὅτι (that) ἰάθη (he was healed), ὑπέστρεψεν (turned back), μετὰ (with) φωνῆς (a voice) μεγάλης (loud) δοξάζων (glorifying) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ¹⁶ καὶ (and) ἔπεσεν (he fell) ἐπὶ (on) πρόσωπον (his face) παρὰ (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εὐχαριστῶν (giving thanks) αὐτῷ (to Him); καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (he) ἦν (was) Σαμαρίτης (a Samaritan). ¹⁷ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Having answered) δὲ (then), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Οὐχὶ* (Not) οἱ (the) δέκα (ten) ἐκαθαρίσθησαν (were cleansed)? οἱ (-) δὲ (But) ἐννέα (the nine) ποῦ (are where)? ¹⁸ οὐχ (None) εὑρέθησαν (was there found) ὑποστρέψαντες (having returned) δοῦναι (to give) δόξαν (glory) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) ἀλλογενὴς (foreigner) οὗτος (this)?” ¹⁹ καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἀναστὰς (Having risen up) πορεύου (go forth); ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has cured) σε (you)!” ²⁰ Ἐπερωτηθεὶς (Having been asked) δὲ (now) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) πότε (when) ἔρχεται (is coming) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀπεκρίθη (He answered) αὐτοῖς (them) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Οὐκ (Not) ἔρχεται (comes) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) μετὰ (with) παρατηρήσεως (careful observation), ²¹ οὐδὲ (nor) ἐροῦσιν (will they say), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ὧδε (here),’ ἤ (or) ‘Ἐκεῖ (There).’ ἰδοὺ (Behold) γὰρ (for), ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐντὸς (in the midst) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐστιν (is).” ²² Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητάς (disciples), “Ἐλεύσονται (Will come) ἡμέραι (days) ὅτε (when) ἐπιθυμήσετε (you will desire) μίαν (one) τῶν (of the) ἡμερῶν (days) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἰδεῖν (to see), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ὄψεσθε (you will see it). ²³ καὶ (And) ἐροῦσιν (they will say) ὑμῖν (to you), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ἐκεῖ (there),’ [ἤ] (or) ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ὧδε (here).’ μὴ (Not) ἀπέλθητε (go forth) μηδὲ (nor) διώξητε (follow). ²⁴ ὥσπερ (As) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) ἀστραπὴ (lightning) ἀστράπτουσα (flashing) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the one end) ὑπὸ (of) τὸν (the) οὐρανὸν (sky) εἰς (to) τὴν (the other end) ὑπ’ (of the) οὐρανὸν (sky) λάμπει (shines), οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) αὐτοῦ (of Him). ²⁵ πρῶτον (First) δὲ (however) δεῖ (it behooves) αὐτὸν (Him) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer), καὶ (and) ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι (to be rejected) ἀπὸ (by) τῆς (the) γενεᾶς (generation) ταύτης (this). ²⁶ Καὶ (And) καθὼς (as) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) Νῶε (of Noah), οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (will it be) καὶ (also) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (of) ἀνθρώπου (man): ²⁷ ἤσθιον (They were eating), ἔπινον (they were drinking), ἐγάμουν (they were marrying), ἐγαμίζοντο (they were being given in marriage), ἄχρι (until) ἧς (that) ἡμέρας (day) εἰσῆλθεν (entered) Νῶε (Noah) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κιβωτόν (ark), καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (came) ὁ (the) κατακλυσμὸς (flood) καὶ (and) ἀπώλεσεν (destroyed) πάντας (all). ²⁸ Ὁμοίως (Likewise), καθὼς (as) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) Λώτ (of Lot), ἤσθιον (they were eating), ἔπινον (they were drinking), ἠγόραζον (they were buying), ἐπώλουν (they were selling), ἐφύτευον (they were planting), ᾠκοδόμουν (they were building); ²⁹ ᾗ (in that) δὲ (then) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐξῆλθεν (went out) Λὼτ (Lot) ἀπὸ (from) Σοδόμων (Sodom), ἔβρεξεν (it rained) πῦρ (fire) καὶ (and) θεῖον (brimstone) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) ἀπώλεσεν (destroyed) πάντας (all). ³⁰ Κατὰ (According) τὰ (-) αὐτὰ (to these) ἔσται (will it be) ᾗ (in that) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἀποκαλύπτεται (is revealed). ³¹ ἐν (In) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day), ὃς (the one who) ἔσται (will be) ἐπὶ (on) τοῦ (the) δώματος (housetop), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) σκεύη (goods) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) οἰκίᾳ (house), μὴ (not) καταβάτω (let him come down) ἆραι (to take away) αὐτά (them); καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) ἐν (in) ἀγρῷ (the field), ὁμοίως (likewise) μὴ (not) ἐπιστρεψάτω (let him return) εἰς (to) τὰ (the things) ὀπίσω (behind). ³² μνημονεύετε (Remember) τῆς (the) γυναικὸς (wife) Λώτ (of Lot)! ³³ ὃς (Whoever) ἐὰν (if) ζητήσῃ (may seek) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) περιποιήσασθαι (to save), ἀπολέσει (will lose) αὐτήν (it); ὃς (whoever) δ’* (also) ἂν (-) ἀπολέσῃ* (will lose it), ζωογονήσει (will preserve) αὐτήν (it). ³⁴ λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ταύτῃ (in that) τῇ (-) νυκτὶ (night) ἔσονται (there will be) δύο (two) ἐπὶ (upon) κλίνης (bed) μιᾶς (one): ὁ (The) εἷς (one) παραλημφθήσεται (will be taken), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἕτερος (other) ἀφεθήσεται (will be left). ³⁵ ἔσονται (There will be) δύο (two women) ἀλήθουσαι (grinding) ἐπὶ (at) τὸ (the) αὐτό (same place): ἡ (The) μία (one) παραλημφθήσεται (will be taken), ἡ (-) δὲ (and) ἑτέρα (the other) ἀφεθήσεται (will be left).” ^{36 37} Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθέντες (answering), λέγουσιν (they say) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ποῦ (Where), Κύριε (Lord)?” Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὅπου (Where) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body is), ἐκεῖ (there) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) ἀετοὶ (vultures) ἐπισυναχθήσονται (will be gathered together).”

²³ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) στραφεὶς (having turned) εἶπεν (He said) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter), “Ὕπαγε (Get) ὀπίσω (behind) μου (Me), Σατανᾶ (Satan)! σκάνδαλον (A stumbling block) εἶ (you are) ἐμοῦ (to Me). ὅτι (For) οὐ (not) φρονεῖς (your thoughts are of) τὰ (the things) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀλλὰ (but) τὰ (the) τῶν (things) ἀνθρώπων (of men).”

⁷ Οὐαὶ (Woe) τῷ (to the) κόσμῳ (world) ἀπὸ (because of) τῶν (the) σκανδάλων (causes of sin). ἀνάγκη (Necessary are) γὰρ (for) ἐλθεῖν (to come) τὰ (the) σκάνδαλα (stumbling blocks), πλὴν (but) οὐαὶ (woe) τῷ (to the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man) δι’ (by) οὗ (whom) τὸ (the) σκάνδαλον (offense) ἔρχεται (comes)!

¹³ Μηκέτι (No longer) οὖν (therefore) ἀλλήλους (one another) κρίνωμεν (should we judge); ἀλλὰ (but) τοῦτο (this) κρίνατε (determine) μᾶλλον (rather), τὸ (-) μὴ (not) τιθέναι (to put) πρόσκομμα (any stumbling block) τῷ (before your) ἀδελφῷ (brother), ἢ (or) σκάνδαλον (snare).

²⁰ μὴ (Not) ἕνεκεν (for the sake of) βρώματος (food), κατάλυε (destroy) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). πάντα (All things) μὲν (indeed are) καθαρά (clean), ἀλλὰ (but) κακὸν (it is wrong) τῷ (to the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man) τῷ (-) διὰ (through) προσκόμματος (a stumbling block) ἐσθίοντι (eating). ²¹ καλὸν (It is good) τὸ (-) μὴ (neither) φαγεῖν (to eat) κρέα (meat), μηδὲ (nor) πιεῖν (to drink) οἶνον (wine), μηδὲ (nor anything) ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) ὁ (the) ἀδελφός (brother) σου (of you) προσκόπτει (stumbles).

¹⁷ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), σκοπεῖν (to watch out for) τοὺς (those) τὰς (-) διχοστασίας (divisions) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) σκάνδαλα (obstacles) παρὰ (contrary to) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) ἣν (that) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐμάθετε (have learned) ποιοῦντας (causing), καὶ (and) ἐκκλίνετε (turn away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them).

¹³ Διόπερ (Therefore) εἰ (if) βρῶμα (food) σκανδαλίζει (snares) τὸν (the) ἀδελφόν (brother) μου (of me), οὐ (never) μὴ (not) φάγω (shall I eat) κρέα (meat) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) τὸν (the) ἀδελφόν (brother) μου (of me) σκανδαλίσω (I might snare).

³² ἀπρόσκοποι (Without offense) καὶ (both) Ἰουδαίοις (to Jews) γίνεσθε (be you), καὶ (and) Ἕλλησιν (Greeks), καὶ (and) τῇ (to the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) —

¹⁹ δεῖ (It behooves) γὰρ (for) καὶ (also) αἱρέσεις (factions) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) εἶναι (there to be), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) δόκιμοι (approved), φανεροὶ (evident) γένωνται (should become) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you).

¹⁰ καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) ἀπάτῃ (deceit) ἀδικίας (of wickedness) τοῖς (unto those) ἀπολλυμένοις (perishing), ἀνθ’ (in return for) ὧν (which) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) οὐκ (not) ἐδέξαντο (they received), εἰς (in order for) τὸ (-) σωθῆναι (to be saved) αὐτούς (them). ¹¹ καὶ (And) διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this), πέμπει (will send) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐνέργειαν (a working) πλάνης (of delusion), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) πιστεῦσαι (to believe) αὐτοὺς (them) τῷ (what) ψεύδει (is false), ¹² ἵνα (in order that) κριθῶσιν (should be judged) πάντες (all) οἱ (those) μὴ (not) πιστεύσαντες (having believed) τῇ (the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth), ἀλλὰ (but) εὐδοκήσαντες (having delighted) τῇ (-) ἀδικίᾳ (in unrighteousness).

¹⁴ Ἀλλ’ (But) ἔχω (I have) κατὰ (against) σοῦ (you) ὀλίγα (a few things), ὅτι (because) ἔχεις (you have) ἐκεῖ (some there) κρατοῦντας (holding) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) Βαλαάμ (of Balaam), ὃς (who) ἐδίδασκεν (would teach) τῷ (-) Βαλὰκ (Balak) βαλεῖν (to cast) σκάνδαλον (a snare) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) υἱῶν (sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), φαγεῖν (to eat) εἰδωλόθυτα (things sacrificed to idols), καὶ (and) πορνεῦσαι (to commit sexual immorality).

²⁰ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἔχω (I have) κατὰ (against) σοῦ (you) ὅτι (that) ἀφεῖς (you tolerate) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (woman) Ἰεζάβελ (Jezebel), ἡ (the one) λέγουσα (calling) ἑαυτὴν (herself) προφῆτιν (a prophetess) καὶ (and) διδάσκει (teaching) καὶ (and) πλανᾷ (misleading) τοὺς (-) ἐμοὺς (My) δούλους (servants) πορνεῦσαι (to commit sexual immorality), καὶ (and) φαγεῖν (to eat) εἰδωλόθυτα (things sacrificed to idols).

¹⁴ καὶ (And) πλανᾷ (it deceives) τοὺς (those) κατοικοῦντας (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), διὰ (by reason of) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἃ (that) ἐδόθη (were given) αὐτῷ (to it) ποιῆσαι (to perform) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θηρίου (beast), λέγων (telling) τοῖς (those) κατοικοῦσιν (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) ποιῆσαι (to make) εἰκόνα (an image) τῷ (to the) θηρίῳ (beast) ὃς (that) ἔχει (has) τὴν (the) πληγὴν (wound) τῆς (of the) μαχαίρης (sword) καὶ (and) ἔζησεν (has lived). ¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἐδόθη (there was given) αὐτῷ (to it) δοῦναι (to give) πνεῦμα (breath) τῇ (to the) εἰκόνι (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) λαλήσῃ (should speak) ἡ (the) εἰκὼν (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), καὶ (and) ποιήσῃ (should cause) ἵνα (that) ὅσοι (as many as) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) προσκυνήσωσιν (would worship) τῇ (the) εἰκόνι (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast) ἀποκτανθῶσιν (would be killed). ¹⁶ Καὶ (And) ποιεῖ (it causes) πάντας (all) τοὺς (the) μικροὺς (small) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) μεγάλους (great), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πλουσίους (rich) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πτωχούς (poor), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἐλευθέρους (free) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) δούλους (servants), ἵνα (that) δῶσιν (it should give) αὐτοῖς (them) χάραγμα (a mark) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) χειρὸς (hand) αὐτῶν (of them) τῆς (-) δεξιᾶς (right), ἢ (or) ἐπὶ (on) τὸ (the) μέτωπον (forehead) αὐτῶν (of them), ¹⁷ καὶ (and) ἵνα (that) μή (no) τις (one) δύνηται (should be able) ἀγοράσαι (to buy) ἢ (or) πωλῆσαι (to sell), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the one) ἔχων (having) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) — τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), ἢ (or) τὸν (the) ἀριθμὸν (number) τοῦ (of the) ὀνόματος (name) αὐτοῦ (of it). ¹⁸ Ὧδε (Here) ἡ (the) σοφία (wisdom) ἐστίν (is). ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) νοῦν (understanding), ψηφισάτω (let him count) τὸν (the) ἀριθμὸν (number) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast); ἀριθμὸς (number) γὰρ (for) ἀνθρώπου (a man’s) ἐστίν (it is), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number is) αὐτοῦ (of it), ἑξακόσιοι (six hundred) ἑξήκοντα (sixty) ἕξ (six).

³ καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) στραφῆτε (you turn) καὶ (and) γένησθε (become) ὡς (as) τὰ (the) παιδία (little children), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθητε (shall you enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens). ⁴ ὅστις (Whoever) οὖν (therefore) ταπεινώσει (will humble) ἑαυτὸν (himself) ὡς (as) τὸ (the) παιδίον (little child) τοῦτο (this), οὗτός (he) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) μείζων (greatest) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens). ⁵ καὶ (And) ὃς (whoever) ἐὰν (if) δέξηται (shall receive) ἓν (one) παιδίον (little child) τοιοῦτο (such) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) μου (of Me), ἐμὲ (Me) δέχεται (receives). ⁶ Ὃς (Whoever) δ’ (then) ἂν (-) σκανδαλίσῃ (shall cause to stumble) ἕνα (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (of these) τῶν (-) πιστευόντων (believing) εἰς (in) ἐμέ (Me), συμφέρει (it is better) αὐτῷ (for him) ἵνα (that) κρεμασθῇ (should be hung) μύλος (a millstone) ὀνικὸς (heavy) περὶ (around) τὸν (the) τράχηλον (neck) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) καταποντισθῇ (he be sunk) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πελάγει (depth) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea).

¹⁰ Ὁρᾶτε (See that) μὴ (not) καταφρονήσητε (you despise) ἑνὸς (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (of these). λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens) διὰ (continually) παντὸς (always) βλέπουσι (behold) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of me), τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens).

¹⁴ οὕτως (Thus) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (it is) θέλημα (the will) ἔμπροσθεν (of) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) ὑμῶν (of you) τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens), ἵνα (that) ἀπόληται (should perish) ἓν (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (of these).

²⁴ ὁ (-) μὲν (Indeed) Υἱὸς (the Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ὑπάγει (goes) καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (Him); οὐαὶ (woe) δὲ (however) τῷ (-) ἀνθρώπῳ (the man) ἐκείνῳ (to that) δι’ (by) οὗ (whom) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοται (is betrayed). καλὸν (Better) ἦν (would it be) αὐτῷ (for him) εἰ (if) οὐκ (not) ἐγεννήθη (had been born) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐκεῖνος (that).”

⁴² Καὶ (And) ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) σκανδαλίσῃ (might cause to stumble) ἕνα (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (these) τῶν (-) πιστευόντων (believing) ‹εἰς (in) ἐμέ› (Me), καλόν (better) ἐστιν (it is) αὐτῷ (for him) μᾶλλον (rather) εἰ (if) περίκειται (is put) μύλος (a millstone) ὀνικὸς (heavy) περὶ (around) τὸν (the) τράχηλον (neck) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) βέβληται (he has been cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea).

¹⁵ Ὅτε (When) οὖν (therefore) ἠρίστησαν (they had dined), λέγει (says) τῷ (-) Σίμωνι (to Simon) Πέτρῳ (Peter) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Σίμων (Simon) Ἰωάννου (son of John), ἀγαπᾷς (love you) με (Me) πλέον (more) τούτων (than these)?” Λέγει (He says) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ναί (Yes), Κύριε (Lord); σὺ (You) οἶδας (know) ὅτι (that) φιλῶ (I dearly love) σε (You).” Λέγει (He says) αὐτῷ (to him), “Βόσκε (Feed) τὰ (the) ἀρνία (lambs) μου (of Me).”

¹¹ ἀπόλλυται (Is destroyed) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the one) ἀσθενῶν (being weak) ἐν (through) τῇ (-) σῇ (your) γνώσει (knowledge), ὁ (the) ἀδελφὸς (brother) δι’ (for) ὃν (whom) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἀπέθανεν (died). ¹² οὕτως (Thus) δὲ (then) ἁμαρτάνοντες (sinning) εἰς (against) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) καὶ (and) τύπτοντες (wounding) αὐτῶν (their) τὴν (-) συνείδησιν (conscience) ἀσθενοῦσαν (being weak), εἰς (against) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἁμαρτάνετε (you sin).

¹⁵ ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) οὐ (not) κέχρημαι (have used) οὐδενὶ (none) τούτων (of these). οὐκ (Neither) ἔγραψα (have I written) δὲ (now), ταῦτα (these things) ἵνα (that) οὕτως (thus) γένηται (it should be) ἐν (with) ἐμοί (me); καλὸν (it were good) γάρ (for) μοι (me) μᾶλλον (rather) ἀποθανεῖν (to die), ἢ (than) τὸ (the) καύχημά (boasting) μου (of me), οὐδεὶς (anyone) κενώσει (will make void).

²² ἐγενόμην (I became) τοῖς (to the) ἀσθενέσιν (weak), ἀσθενής (weak), ἵνα (that) τοὺς (the) ἀσθενεῖς (weak) κερδήσω (I might win). τοῖς (These things) πᾶσιν (to all) γέγονα (I have become) πάντα (all), ἵνα (so that) πάντως (by all means), τινὰς (some) σώσω (I might save).

¹ Ἐγένοντο (There were) δὲ (however) καὶ (also) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets) ἐν (among) τῷ (the) λαῷ (people), ὡς (as) καὶ (also) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) ἔσονται (there will be) ψευδοδιδάσκαλοι (false teachers), οἵτινες (who) παρεισάξουσιν (will stealthily introduce) αἱρέσεις (heresies) ἀπωλείας (destructive), καὶ (even) τὸν (the) ἀγοράσαντα (having bought) αὐτοὺς (them) δεσπότην (Master) ἀρνούμενοι (denying), ἐπάγοντες (bringing upon) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves) ταχινὴν (swift) ἀπώλειαν (destruction). ² καὶ (And) πολλοὶ (many) ἐξακολουθήσουσιν (will follow after) αὐτῶν (their) ταῖς (-) ἀσελγείαις (sensuality), δι’ (through) οὓς (whom) ἡ (the) ὁδὸς (way) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) βλασφημηθήσεται (will be maligned). ³ καὶ (And) ἐν (through) πλεονεξίᾳ (covetousness) πλαστοῖς (with fabricated) λόγοις (words) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐμπορεύσονται (they will exploit), οἷς (for whom) τὸ (the) κρίμα (judgment) ἔκπαλαι (of long ago) οὐκ (not) ἀργεῖ (is idle), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἀπώλεια (destruction) αὐτῶν (of them) οὐ (not) νυστάζει (slumbers).

¹⁵ Ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) ἁμαρτήσῃ (sins) ‹εἰς (against) σὲ› (you) ὁ (the) ἀδελφός (brother) σου (of you), ὕπαγε (go) ἔλεγξον (reprove) αὐτὸν (him), μεταξὺ (between) σοῦ (you) καὶ (and) αὐτοῦ (him) μόνου (alone). ἐάν (If) σου (you) ἀκούσῃ (he will hear), ἐκέρδησας (you have gained) τὸν (the) ἀδελφόν (brother) σου (of you). ¹⁶ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (however) μὴ (not) ἀκούσῃ (he will hear), παράλαβε (take) μετὰ (with) σοῦ (you) ἔτι (more), ἕνα (one) ἢ (or) δύο (two), ἵνα (that) ‘Ἐπὶ (upon) στόματος (the testimony) δύο (of two) μαρτύρων (witnesses) ἢ (or) τριῶν (of three), σταθῇ (may be strengthened) πᾶν (every) ῥῆμα (word).’ ¹⁷ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) παρακούσῃ (he fails to listen) αὐτῶν (to them), εἰπὸν (tell it) τῇ (to the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church). ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) τῆς (to the) ἐκκλησίας (church) παρακούσῃ (he fails to listen), ἔστω (let him be) σοι (to you) ὥσπερ (as) ὁ (the) ἐθνικὸς (pagan) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) τελώνης (tax collector).

²¹ Τότε (Then) προσελθὼν (having come), «ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) εἶπεν» (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Κύριε (Lord), ποσάκις (how often) ἁμαρτήσει (will sin) εἰς (against) ἐμὲ (me) ὁ (the) ἀδελφός (brother) μου (of me), καὶ (and) ἀφήσω (I will forgive) αὐτῷ (him)? ἕως (Up to) ἑπτάκις (seven times)?”

³⁴ Προσέχετε (Take heed) δὲ (now) ἑαυτοῖς (to yourselves), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) βαρηθῶσιν (be burdened) ὑμῶν (of you) αἱ (the) καρδίαι (hearts) ἐν (with) κραιπάλῃ (dissipation) καὶ (and) μέθῃ (drunkenness) καὶ (and) μερίμναις (cares) βιωτικαῖς (of life) — καὶ (and) ἐπιστῇ (would come) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) αἰφνίδιος (suddenly) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) ἐκείνη (that) ὡς (as) παγίς (a snare).

¹¹ Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἦλθεν (came) Κηφᾶς (Peter) εἰς (to) Ἀντιόχειαν (Antioch), κατὰ (to) πρόσωπον (face) αὐτῷ (his) ἀντέστην (I opposed him), ὅτι (because) κατεγνωσμένος (condemned) ἦν (he stood). ¹² πρὸ (Before) τοῦ (-) γὰρ (for), ἐλθεῖν (came) τινας (certain ones) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰακώβου (James), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἐθνῶν (Gentiles) συνήσθιεν (he was eating); ὅτε (when) δὲ (however) ἦλθον (they came), ὑπέστελλεν (he was drawing back) καὶ (and) ἀφώριζεν (was separating) ἑαυτόν (himself), φοβούμενος (being afraid of) τοὺς (those) ἐκ (of) περιτομῆς (the circumcision). ¹³ καὶ (And) συνυπεκρίθησαν (acted hypocritically) αὐτῷ (with him) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (rest) Ἰουδαῖοι (of the Jews), ὥστε (so that) καὶ (even) Βαρνάβας (Barnabas) συναπήχθη (was carried away) αὐτῶν (of them) τῇ (by the) ὑποκρίσει (hypocrisy). ¹⁴ Ἀλλ’ (But) ὅτε (when) εἶδον (I saw) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) ὀρθοποδοῦσιν (they are walking uprightly) πρὸς (according to) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel), εἶπον (I said) τῷ (-) Κηφᾷ (to Peter) ἔμπροσθεν (before) πάντων (all), “Εἰ (If) σὺ (you), Ἰουδαῖος (a Jew) ὑπάρχων (being), ἐθνικῶς (like a Gentile) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) Ἰουδαϊκῶς (like a Jew) ζῇς (live), πῶς (why) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles) ἀναγκάζεις (do you compel) ἰουδαΐζειν (to Judaize)?

¹⁵ Βλέπετε (Take heed) οὖν (therefore) ἀκριβῶς (carefully) πῶς (how) περιπατεῖτε (you walk), μὴ (not) ὡς (as) ἄσοφοι (unwise), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) σοφοί (wise),

¹⁵ ἐπισκοποῦντες (observing) μή (lest) τις (any) ὑστερῶν (be failing) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) χάριτος (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), μή (lest) τις (any) ῥίζα (root) πικρίας (of bitterness) ἄνω (up) φύουσα (springing) ἐνοχλῇ (should trouble you), καὶ (and) δι’* (by) αὐτῆς* (this), μιανθῶσιν (might be defiled) 〈οἱ〉 (the) πολλοί (many),

¹⁹ Ἀδελφοί (Brothers) μου (of Me), ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) πλανηθῇ (might wander) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth), καὶ (and) ἐπιστρέψῃ (should bring back) τις (someone) αὐτόν (him),

⁸ βλέπετε (Watch) ἑαυτούς (yourselves), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ἀπολέσητε (you should lose) ἃ (what things) εἰργασάμεθα* (we have worked for), ἀλλὰ (but) μισθὸν (a reward) πλήρη (full) ἀπολάβητε (you may receive).

⁴⁴ ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) λέγω (say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀγαπᾶτε (love) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) προσεύχεσθε (pray) ὑπὲρ (for) τῶν (those) διωκόντων (persecuting) ὑμᾶς (you),

¹⁴ Ἐὰν (If) γὰρ (for) ἀφῆτε (you forgive) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (men) τὰ (the) παραπτώματα (trespasses) αὐτῶν (of them), ἀφήσει (will forgive) καὶ (also) ὑμῖν (you) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ὑμῶν (of you) ὁ (-) οὐράνιος (Heavenly). ¹⁵ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (however) μὴ (not) ἀφῆτε (you forgive) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (men) (τὰ (the) παραπτώματα (the trespasses) αὐτῶν) (of them), οὐδὲ (neither) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ὑμῶν (of you) ἀφήσει (will forgive) τὰ (the) παραπτώματα (trespasses) ὑμῶν (of you).

¹⁶ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (however) μὴ (not) ἀκούσῃ (he will hear), παράλαβε (take) μετὰ (with) σοῦ (you) ἔτι (more), ἕνα (one) ἢ (or) δύο (two), ἵνα (that) ‘Ἐπὶ (upon) στόματος (the testimony) δύο (of two) μαρτύρων (witnesses) ἢ (or) τριῶν (of three), σταθῇ (may be strengthened) πᾶν (every) ῥῆμα (word).’

³⁵ Οὕτως (Thus) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me) ὁ (-) οὐράνιος (Heavenly) ποιήσει (will do) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ἀφῆτε (you forgive) ἕκαστος (each) τῷ (the) ἀδελφῷ (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) καρδιῶν (heart) ὑμῶν (of you).”

²⁰ Ἀλλὰ (On the contrary), “Ἐὰν (If) πεινᾷ (should hunger) ὁ (the) ἐχθρός (enemy) σου (of you), ψώμιζε (feed) αὐτόν (him); ἐὰν (if) διψᾷ (he should thirst), πότιζε (give drink) αὐτόν (him); τοῦτο (this) γὰρ (for) ποιῶν (doing), ἄνθρακας (coals) πυρὸς (of fire) σωρεύσεις (you will heap) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) αὐτοῦ (of him).”

⁴ Ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (Love) μακροθυμεῖ (is patient), χρηστεύεται (is kind); ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love) οὐ (not) ζηλοῖ (is envious); ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love) οὐ (not) περπερεύεται (is boastful), οὐ (not) φυσιοῦται (is puffed up), ⁵ οὐκ (not) ἀσχημονεῖ (acts unbecomingly); οὐ (not) ζητεῖ (seeks) τὰ (the things) ἑαυτῆς (of its own), οὐ (not) παροξύνεται (is easily provoked), οὐ (not) λογίζεται (it keeps account) τὸ (-) κακόν (of wrongs); ⁶ οὐ (not) χαίρει (delights) ἐπὶ (at) τῇ (-) ἀδικίᾳ (unrighteousness), συνχαίρει (rejoices) δὲ (however) τῇ (in the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth). ⁷ πάντα (All things) στέγει (it bears), πάντα (all things) πιστεύει (believes), πάντα (all things) ἐλπίζει (hopes), πάντα (all things) ὑπομένει (endures).

³¹ Πᾶσα (All) πικρία (bitterness), καὶ (and) θυμὸς (rage), καὶ (and) ὀργὴ (anger), καὶ (and) κραυγὴ (clamor), καὶ (and) βλασφημία (slander), ἀρθήτω (let be removed) ἀφ’ (from) ὑμῶν (you), σὺν (along with) πάσῃ (all) κακίᾳ (malice). ³² γίνεσθε (Be) δὲ (now) εἰς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another) χρηστοί (kind), εὔσπλαγχνοι (tender-hearted), χαριζόμενοι (forgiving) ἑαυτοῖς (each other), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἐχαρίσατο (forgave) ὑμῖν (you).

¹² Ἐνδύσασθε (Put on) οὖν (therefore), ὡς (as) ἐκλεκτοὶ (the elect) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἅγιοι (holy) καὶ (and) ἠγαπημένοι (beloved), σπλάγχνα (hearts) οἰκτιρμοῦ (of compassion), χρηστότητα (kindness), ταπεινοφροσύνην (humility), πραΰτητα (gentleness), μακροθυμίαν (and patience); ¹³ ἀνεχόμενοι (bearing with) ἀλλήλων (each other) καὶ (and) χαριζόμενοι (forgiving) ἑαυτοῖς (each other). ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) πρός (against) τινα (another) ἔχῃ (should have) μομφήν (a complaint), καθὼς (even as) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἐχαρίσατο (has forgiven) ὑμῖν (you), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you).

¹³ Ὑμεῖς (You) δέ (now), ἀδελφοί (brothers), μὴ (not) ἐγκακήσητε (shall grow weary) καλοποιοῦντες (in well-doing). ¹⁴ Εἰ (If) δέ (then) τις (anyone) οὐχ (not) ὑπακούει (obey) τῷ (this) λόγῳ (instruction) ἡμῶν (of us) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐπιστολῆς (letter), τοῦτον (of this man) σημειοῦσθε (take note) μὴ (not) συναναμίγνυσθαι (to mix with) αὐτῷ (him), ἵνα (so that) ἐντραπῇ (he may be ashamed).

³⁰ Καὶ (And) συνάγονται (are gathered together) οἱ (the) ἀπόστολοι (apostles) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), καὶ (and) ἀπήγγειλαν (they related) αὐτῷ (to him) πάντα (all things), ὅσα (what) ἐποίησαν (they had done) καὶ (and) ὅσα (what) ἐδίδαξαν (they had taught).

²⁴ Εὐθὺς (Immediately) κράξας (having cried out), ὁ (the) πατὴρ (father) τοῦ (of the) παιδίου (child) ἔλεγεν (was saying), “Πιστεύω (I believe); βοήθει (help) μου (of me) τῇ (the) ἀπιστίᾳ (unbelief)!”

¹³ καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὴν (her), ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἐσπλαγχνίσθη (was moved with compassion) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῇ (her), καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῇ (to her), “Μὴ (Not) κλαῖε (weep).”

⁸ ὑπὲρ (For) τούτου (this), τρὶς (three times) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) παρεκάλεσα (I begged), ἵνα (that) ἀποστῇ (it might depart) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (me). ⁹ καὶ (And) εἴρηκέν (He said) μοι (to me), “Ἀρκεῖ (Suffices) σοι (you) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) μου (of Me); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) δύναμις (power) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείᾳ (weakness) τελεῖται (is perfected).” Ἥδιστα (Most gladly) οὖν (therefore) μᾶλλον (rather) καυχήσομαι (will I boast) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses) ‹μου› (of me), ἵνα (so that) ἐπισκηνώσῃ (may rest) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me) ἡ (the) δύναμις (power) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ). ¹⁰ διὸ (Therefore) εὐδοκῶ (I take pleasure) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses), ἐν (in) ὕβρεσιν (insults), ἐν (in) ἀνάγκαις (hardships), ἐν (in) διωγμοῖς (persecutions), καὶ (and) στενοχωρίαις (difficulties) ὑπὲρ (for) Χριστοῦ (Christ); ὅταν (when) γὰρ (for) ἀσθενῶ (I might be weak), τότε (then) δυνατός (strong) εἰμι (I am).

¹³ πάντα (For all things) ἰσχύω (I have strength) ἐν (in) τῷ (the One) ἐνδυναμοῦντί (strengthening) με (me).

³ Εὐχαριστεῖν (To thank) ὀφείλομεν (we ought) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God) πάντοτε (always) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), καθὼς (just as) ἄξιόν (fitting) ἐστιν (it is), ὅτι (because) ὑπεραυξάνει (is increasing exceedingly) ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) πλεονάζει (is abounding) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) ἑνὸς (of one) ἑκάστου (each) πάντων (of all) ὑμῶν (you) εἰς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another);

² ἀφορῶντες (looking) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) τῆς (of our) πίστεως (faith) ἀρχηγὸν (founder) καὶ (and) τελειωτὴν (perfecter), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ὃς (who) ἀντὶ (in view of) τῆς (the) προκειμένης (lying before) αὐτῷ (Him) χαρᾶς (joy), ὑπέμεινεν (endured) σταυρὸν (the cross), αἰσχύνης (its shame) καταφρονήσας (having despised), ἐν (at) δεξιᾷ (right hand) τε (and) τοῦ (of the) θρόνου (throne) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) κεκάθικεν (sat down).

²² Τὰς (The) ψυχὰς (souls) ὑμῶν (of you) ἡγνικότες (having purified) ἐν (by) τῇ (-) ὑπακοῇ (obedience) τῆς (to the) ἀληθείας (truth) εἰς (unto) φιλαδελφίαν (brotherly love) ἀνυπόκριτον (sincere), ἐκ (out of) [καθαρᾶς] (purity) καρδίας (of heart), ἀλλήλους (one another) ἀγαπήσατε (love) ἐκτενῶς (fervently). ²³ ἀναγεγεννημένοι (Having been born again), οὐκ (not) ἐκ (of) σπορᾶς (seed) φθαρτῆς (perishable), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀφθάρτου (of imperishable), διὰ (by) λόγου (the word) ζῶντος (living) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) μένοντος (abiding),

³¹ Ἄλλην (Another) παραβολὴν (parable) παρέθηκεν (put He before) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), “Ὁμοία (Like) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens) κόκκῳ (to a grain) σινάπεως (of mustard), ὃν (which) λαβὼν (having taken), ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἔσπειρεν (sowed) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀγρῷ (field) αὐτοῦ (of him); ³² ὃ (which) μικρότερον (smallest) μέν (indeed) ἐστιν (is) πάντων (of all) τῶν (the) σπερμάτων (seeds); ὅταν (when) δὲ (however) αὐξηθῇ (it is grown), μεῖζον (greater) τῶν (than the) λαχάνων (garden plants) ἐστὶν (it is), καὶ (and) γίνεται (becomes) δένδρον (a tree), ὥστε (so that) ἐλθεῖν (come) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) τοῦ (of the) οὐρανοῦ (air) καὶ (and) κατασκηνοῦν* (perch) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) κλάδοις (branches) αὐτοῦ (of it).”

²⁰ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) λέγει (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Διὰ (Because of) τὴν (the) ὀλιγοπιστίαν (little faith) ὑμῶν (of you). ἀμὴν (Truly) γὰρ (for) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐὰν (If) ἔχητε (you have) πίστιν (faith) ὡς (as) κόκκον (a seed) σινάπεως (of mustard), ἐρεῖτε (you will say) τῷ (to the) ὄρει (mountain) τούτῳ (to this), ‘Μετάβα (Move) ἔνθεν (from here) ἐκεῖ (to there),’ καὶ (and) μεταβήσεται (it will move). καὶ (And) οὐδὲν (nothing) ἀδυνατήσει (will be impossible) ὑμῖν (for you).”

²¹ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐὰν (if) ἔχητε (you have) πίστιν (faith) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) διακριθῆτε (do doubt), οὐ (not) μόνον (only) τὸ (the miracle) τῆς (of the) συκῆς (fig tree) ποιήσετε (will you do), ἀλλὰ (but) κἂν (even if) τῷ (to the) ὄρει (mountain) τούτῳ (this) εἴπητε (you should say), ‘Ἄρθητι (Be you taken away) καὶ (and) βλήθητι (be you cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea),’ γενήσεται (it will come to pass).

²³ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Τὸ (-) Εἰ (If) δύνῃ (You are able)? πάντα (All things) δυνατὰ (are possible) τῷ (to the one) πιστεύοντι (believing).”

²² Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἔχετε (Have) πίστιν (faith) θεοῦ (from God). ²³ ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) εἴπῃ (shall say) τῷ (to the) ὄρει (mountain) τούτῳ (this), ‘Ἄρθητι (Be you taken away) καὶ (and) βλήθητι (be you cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea),’ καὶ (and) μὴ (not) διακριθῇ (shall doubt) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἀλλὰ (but) πιστεύῃ (shall believe) ὅτι (that) ὃ (what) λαλεῖ (he says) γίνεται (takes place), ἔσται (it will be done) αὐτῷ (for him).

¹⁹ ὁμοία (Like) ἐστὶν (it is) κόκκῳ (to a grain) σινάπεως (of mustard), ὃν (which) λαβὼν (having taken), ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἔβαλεν (cast) εἰς (into) κῆπον (garden) ἑαυτοῦ (his); καὶ (and) ηὔξησεν (it grew) καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (came) εἰς (into) δένδρον (a tree), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) τοῦ (of the) οὐρανοῦ (air) κατεσκήνωσεν (encamped) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) κλάδοις (branches) αὐτοῦ (of it).”

⁴ καὶ (And) προδραμὼν (having run) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) ἔμπροσθεν (front) ἀνέβη (he went up) ἐπὶ (into) συκομορέαν (a sycamore-fig tree), ἵνα (so that) ἴδῃ (he might see) αὐτόν (Him), ὅτι (for) ἐκείνης (that way) ἤμελλεν (He was about) διέρχεσθαι (to pass).

² καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) ἔχω (I should have) προφητείαν (prophecy) καὶ (and) εἰδῶ (understand) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) πάντα (all), καὶ (and) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) γνῶσιν (knowledge), καὶ (and) ἐὰν (if) ἔχω (I should have) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith), ὥστε (so as) ὄρη (mountains) μεθιστάναι (to remove), ἀγάπην (love) δὲ (however) μὴ (not) ἔχω (have), οὐθέν (nothing) εἰμι (I am).

¹¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τίς (What) ἔσται (will there be) ἐξ (among) ὑμῶν (you) ἄνθρωπος (man), ὃς (who) ἕξει (will have) πρόβατον (sheep) ἕν (one), καὶ (and) ἐὰν (if) ἐμπέσῃ (falls) τοῦτο (it) τοῖς (on the) σάββασιν (Sabbaths) εἰς (into) βόθυνον (a pit), οὐχὶ (not) κρατήσει (will he take hold of) αὐτὸ (it) καὶ (and) ἐγερεῖ (will raise it up)?

¹⁵ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) δὲ (therefore) αὐτῷ (him) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Ὑποκριταί (Hypocrites)! ἕκαστος (Each one) ὑμῶν (of you) τῷ (on the) σαββάτῳ (Sabbath), οὐ (not) λύει (does he untie) τὸν (the) βοῦν (ox) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἢ (or) τὸν (the) ὄνον (donkey), ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) φάτνης (stall), καὶ (and) ἀπαγαγὼν (having led it away), ποτίζει (give it to drink)?

⁵ καὶ (And) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) εἶπεν (He said), “Τίνος (Which) ὑμῶν (of you) υἱὸς (a son) ἢ (or) βοῦς (an ox) εἰς (into) φρέαρ (a pit) πεσεῖται (will fall), καὶ (also) οὐκ (not) εὐθέως (immediately) ἀνασπάσει (he will pull up) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (on) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τοῦ (the) σαββάτου (Sabbath)?”

³⁷ μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (the) δοῦλοι (servants) ἐκεῖνοι (those), οὓς (whom) ἐλθὼν (having come), ὁ (the) κύριος (master) εὑρήσει (will find) γρηγοροῦντας (watching). ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) περιζώσεται (he will gird himself) καὶ (and) ἀνακλινεῖ (will make recline) αὐτοὺς (them), καὶ (and) παρελθὼν (having come up), διακονήσει (will serve) αὐτοῖς (them).

³⁰ καὶ (And) τὸν (the) ἀχρεῖον (worthless) δοῦλον (servant), ἐκβάλετε (cast out) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) σκότος (darkness) τὸ (-) ἐξώτερον (outer); ἐκεῖ (there) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) κλαυθμὸς (weeping) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) βρυγμὸς (gnashing) τῶν (of the) ὀδόντων (teeth).’

³⁷ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσονται (will answer) αὐτῷ (Him) οἱ (the) δίκαιοι (righteous), λέγοντες (saying), ‘Κύριε (Lord), πότε (when) σε (You) εἴδομεν (saw we) πεινῶντα (hungering), καὶ (and) ἐθρέψαμεν (fed You)? ἢ (Or) διψῶντα (thirsting), καὶ (and) ἐποτίσαμεν (gave You to drink)? ³⁸ πότε (When) δέ (now) σε (You) εἴδομεν (saw we) ξένον (a stranger), καὶ (and) συνηγάγομεν (took You in)? ἢ (Or) γυμνὸν (naked), καὶ (and) περιεβάλομεν (clothed You)? ³⁹ πότε (When) δέ (now) σε (You) εἴδομεν (saw we) ἀσθενοῦντα (ailing) ἢ (or) ἐν (in) φυλακῇ (prison), καὶ (and) ἤλθομεν (came) πρός (to) σε (You)?’ ⁴⁰ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) ἐρεῖ (will say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (as much as) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) μου (of Me) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (you did it).’

¹² πάντες (All) ἐξέκλιναν (have turned away), ἅμα (together they) ἠχρεώθησαν (have become worthless); οὐκ (none) ἔστιν (there is) ὁ (who) ποιῶν (is practicing) χρηστότητα (good), οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἕως (so much as) ἑνός (one).

³⁵ “Ἢ (Or) τίς (who) προέδωκεν (has first given) αὐτῷ (to Him), καὶ (and) ἀνταποδοθήσεται (it will be recompensed) αὐτῷ (to him)?”

¹⁶ Ἐὰν (If) γὰρ (for) εὐαγγελίζωμαι (I preach the gospel), οὐκ (nothing) ἔστιν (there is) μοι (to me) καύχημα (boasting); ἀνάγκη (necessity) γάρ (for) μοι (me) ἐπίκειται (is laid upon). οὐαὶ (Woe) γάρ (however) μοί (to me) ἐστιν (be), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) εὐαγγελίσωμαι (I should preach the gospel). ¹⁷ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἑκὼν (willingly) τοῦτο (this) πράσσω (I do), μισθὸν (a reward) ἔχω (I have); εἰ (if) δὲ (however) ἄκων (unwillingly), οἰκονομίαν (a stewardship) πεπίστευμαι (I am entrusted with).

⁹ Ἐγὼ (I) γάρ (for) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) ἐλάχιστος (least) τῶν (of the) ἀποστόλων (apostles), ὃς (who) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (am) ἱκανὸς (fit) καλεῖσθαι (to be called) ἀπόστολος (an apostle), διότι (because) ἐδίωξα (I persecuted) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ¹⁰ χάριτι (By the grace) δὲ (however) Θεοῦ (of God), εἰμι (I am) ὅ (what) εἰμι (I am), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἡ (-) εἰς (toward) ἐμὲ (me) οὐ (not) κενὴ (void) ἐγενήθη (has been). ἀλλὰ (Rather), περισσότερον (more abundantly) αὐτῶν (than them) πάντων (all) ἐκοπίασα (I toiled), οὐκ (not) ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ‹ἡ› (that was) σὺν (with) ἐμοί (me).

⁸ ἀλλὰ (But) μὲν‿ (-), οὖν‿ (therefore) γε (indeed), καὶ (also) ἡγοῦμαι (I count) πάντα (all things) ζημίαν (loss) εἶναι (to be) διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) ὑπερέχον (excelling) τῆς (-) γνώσεως (knowledge) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) μου (of me), δι’ (because of) ὃν (whom) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) ἐζημιώθην (I have lost), καὶ (and) ἡγοῦμαι (esteem them) σκύβαλα (rubbish), ἵνα (that) Χριστὸν (Christ) κερδήσω (I may gain) ⁹ καὶ (and) εὑρεθῶ (be found) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him), μὴ (not) ἔχων (having) ἐμὴν (my own) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), τὴν (which is) ἐκ (of) νόμου (the Law), ἀλλὰ (but) τὴν (that) διὰ (through) πίστεως (faith) Χριστοῦ (from Christ), τὴν (the) ἐκ (of) Θεοῦ (God) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) ἐπὶ (on the basis of) τῇ (-) πίστει (faith),

¹¹ τόν (-) ποτέ (once) σοι (to you) ἄχρηστον (useless), νυνὶ (now) δὲ (however) καὶ (both) σοὶ (to you) καὶ (and) ἐμοὶ (to me) εὔχρηστον (useful),

⁵ Ὁμοίως (Likewise), νεώτεροι (younger ones), ὑποτάγητε (be subject) πρεσβυτέροις (to your elders). πάντες (All) δὲ (now) ἀλλήλοις (one to another) τὴν (-) ταπεινοφροσύνην (humility) ἐγκομβώσασθε (gird on), ὅτι (because), “Ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ὑπερηφάνοις (the proud) ἀντιτάσσεται (opposes), ταπεινοῖς (to the humble) δὲ (however) δίδωσιν (He gives) χάριν (grace).” ⁶ Ταπεινώθητε (Be humbled) οὖν (therefore) ὑπὸ (under) τὴν (the) κραταιὰν (mighty) χεῖρα (hand) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἵνα (so that) ὑμᾶς (you) ὑψώσῃ (He may exalt) ἐν (in) καιρῷ (due time),

⁵¹ Ἐγένετο (It came to pass) δὲ (then) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) συμπληροῦσθαι (completing) τὰς (the) ἡμέρας (days) τῆς (of the) ἀναλήμψεως (ascension) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (that) αὐτὸς (He) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) ἐστήρισεν (steadfastly set) τοῦ (-) πορεύεσθαι (to go) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem). ⁵² καὶ (And) ἀπέστειλεν (He sent) ἀγγέλους (messengers) πρὸ (before) προσώπου (the face) αὐτοῦ (of Him). καὶ (And) πορευθέντες (having gone), εἰσῆλθον (they entered) εἰς (into) κώμην (a village) Σαμαριτῶν (of the Samaritans), ὡς* (so as) ἑτοιμάσαι (to make ready) αὐτῷ (for Him).

³ ἀφῆκεν (He left) τὴν (-) Ἰουδαίαν (Judea), καὶ (and) ἀπῆλθεν (went away) πάλιν (again) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee). ⁴ Ἔδει (It was necessary for) δὲ (now) αὐτὸν (Him) διέρχεσθαι (to pass) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) Σαμαρείας (Samaria).

¹² Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) εἶναι (being) αὐτὸν (His) ἐν (in) μιᾷ (one) τῶν (of the) πόλεων (cities), καὶ (that) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἀνὴρ (a man) πλήρης (full) λέπρας (of leprosy), ἰδὼν (having seen) δὲ (then) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), πεσὼν (having fallen) ἐπὶ (upon) πρόσωπον (his face), ἐδεήθη (begged) αὐτοῦ (Him), λέγων (saying), “Κύριε (Lord), ἐὰν (if) θέλῃς (You would be willing), δύνασαί (You are able) με (me) καθαρίσαι (to cleanse).”

¹³ Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) τελώνης (the tax collector), μακρόθεν (afar off) ἑστὼς (standing), οὐκ (not) ἤθελεν (was willing) οὐδὲ (not even) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἐπᾶραι (to lift up) εἰς (to) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven), ἀλλ’ (but) ἔτυπτεν (was striking) τὸ (the) στῆθος (breast) αὐτοῦ (of himself), λέγων (saying) Ὁ (-), ‘Θεός (God), ἱλάσθητί (be merciful) μοι (to me), τῷ (the) ἁμαρτωλῷ (sinner)!’

²⁷ Καὶ (And) παράγοντι (passing on) ἐκεῖθεν (from there) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ἠκολούθησαν (followed) ‹αὐτῷ› (Him) δύο (two) τυφλοὶ (blind men), κράζοντες (crying out) καὶ (and) λέγοντες (saying), “Ἐλέησον (Have mercy on) ἡμᾶς (us), υἱὸς (Son) Δαυίδ (of David).”

²² καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), γυνὴ (a woman) Χαναναία (Canaanite) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ὁρίων (region) ἐκείνων (same), ἐξελθοῦσα (having approached), ἔκραζεν (was crying out), λέγουσα (saying), “Ἐλέησόν (Have mercy on) με (me), Κύριε (Lord), υἱὸς (Son) Δαυίδ (of David); ἡ (the) θυγάτηρ (daughter) μου (of me) κακῶς (miserably) δαιμονίζεται (is possessed by a demon).”

³⁰ καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), δύο (two) τυφλοὶ (blind men) καθήμενοι (sitting) παρὰ (beside) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), ἀκούσαντες (having heard) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) παράγει (is passing by), ἔκραξαν (cried out), λέγοντες (saying), “Κύριε (Lord), «ἐλέησον (Have mercy on) ἡμᾶς» (us), υἱὸς (Son) Δαυίδ (of David).” ³¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ὄχλος (the crowd) ἐπετίμησεν (rebuked) αὐτοῖς (them), ἵνα (that) σιωπήσωσιν (they should be silent). οἱ (-) δὲ (But) μεῖζον (all the more) ἔκραξαν (they cried out), λέγοντες (saying), “Κύριε (Lord), «ἐλέησον (have mercy on) ἡμᾶς» (us), υἱὸς (Son) Δαυίδ (of David).”

²² καὶ (And) πολλάκις (often) καὶ (both) εἰς (into) πῦρ (fire) αὐτὸν (him) ἔβαλεν (it casts), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ὕδατα (waters), ἵνα (that) ἀπολέσῃ (it might destroy) αὐτόν (him). ἀλλ’ (But) εἴ (if) τι (anything) δύνῃ (You are able to do), βοήθησον (help) ἡμῖν (us), σπλαγχνισθεὶς (having compassion) ἐφ’ (on) ἡμᾶς (us).”

⁵ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), Σίμων (Simon) εἶπεν (said), “Ἐπιστάτα (Master), δι’ (through) ὅλης (whole) νυκτὸς (night) κοπιάσαντες (having toiled), οὐδὲν (nothing) ἐλάβομεν (have we taken); ἐπὶ (at) δὲ (however) τῷ (the) ῥήματί (word) σου (of You), χαλάσω (I will let down) τὰ (the) δίκτυα (nets).”

³⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐβόησεν (he called out) λέγων (saying), “Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), υἱὲ (Son) Δαυίδ (of David), ἐλέησόν (have mercy on) με (me).” ³⁹ Καὶ (And) οἱ (those) προάγοντες (going before) ἐπετίμων (were rebuking) αὐτῷ (him), ἵνα (that) σιγήσῃ (he should be silent). αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (however) πολλῷ (much) μᾶλλον (more) ἔκραζεν (kept crying out), “Υἱὲ (Son) Δαυίδ (of David), ἐλέησόν (have mercy on) με (me).”

¹⁵ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering), δὲ (however), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) ‹πρὸς (unto) αὐτόν› (him), “Ἄφες (Permit it) ἄρτι (presently); οὕτως (thus) γὰρ (for) πρέπον (fitting) ἐστὶν (it is) ἡμῖν (to us) πληρῶσαι (to fulfill) πᾶσαν (all) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness).” τότε (Then) ἀφίησιν (he permits) αὐτόν (Him).

³ Καὶ (And) ἐκτείνας (having stretched out) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand), ἥψατο (He touched) αὐτοῦ (him), λέγων (saying), “Θέλω (I am willing); καθαρίσθητι (be you cleansed)!” καὶ (And) εὐθέως (immediately) ἐκαθαρίσθη* (was cleansed) αὐτοῦ (his) ἡ (-) λέπρα (leprosy). ⁴ καὶ (And) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ὅρα (See that) μηδενὶ (no one) εἴπῃς (you tell). ἀλλὰ (But) ὕπαγε (go), σεαυτὸν (yourself) δεῖξον (show) τῷ (to the) ἱερεῖ (priest), καὶ (and) προσένεγκον (offer) τὸ (the) δῶρον (gift) ὃ (that) προσέταξεν (commanded) Μωϋσῆς (Moses), εἰς (for) μαρτύριον (a testimony) αὐτοῖς (to them).”

¹⁴ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (He) παρήγγειλεν (ordered) αὐτῷ (him) μηδενὶ (no one) εἰπεῖν (to tell): “Ἀλλὰ (But) ἀπελθὼν (having gone), δεῖξον (show) σεαυτὸν (yourself) τῷ (to the) ἱερεῖ (priest), καὶ (and) προσένεγκε (offer) περὶ (for) τοῦ (the) καθαρισμοῦ (cleansing) σου (of you), καθὼς (as) προσέταξεν (commanded) Μωϋσῆς (Moses), εἰς (for) μαρτύριον (a testimony) αὐτοῖς (to them).”

⁵ Λέγει (Says) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τοῖς (to the) διακόνοις (servants), “Ὅ (Whatever) τι (anyhow) ἂν (-) λέγῃ (He may say) ὑμῖν (to you), ποιήσατε (do).”

⁵⁰ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Πορεύου (Go), ὁ (the) υἱός (son) σου (of you) ζῇ (lives).” Ἐπίστευσεν (Believed) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) τῷ (the) λόγῳ (word) ὃν (that) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), καὶ (and) ἐπορεύετο (he went on his way). ⁵¹ ἤδη (Already) δὲ (then) αὐτοῦ (as he) καταβαίνοντος (is going down), οἱ (the) δοῦλοι (servants) ‹αὐτοῦ› (of him) ὑπήντησαν (met) αὐτῷ (him), λέγοντες (saying) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) παῖς (boy) αὐτοῦ (of him) ζῇ (lives). ⁵² Ἐπύθετο (He inquired) οὖν (therefore) τὴν (the) ὥραν (hour) παρ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them) ἐν (in) ᾗ (which) κομψότερον (better) ἔσχεν (he got). εἶπαν (They said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (to him) ὅτι (-), “Ἐχθὲς (Yesterday) ὥραν (at the hour) ἑβδόμην (seventh), ἀφῆκεν (left) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (the) πυρετός (fever).” ⁵³ Ἔγνω (Knew) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (the) πατὴρ (father) ὅτι (that it was) [ἐν] (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (the) ὥρᾳ (hour) ἐν (at) ᾗ (which) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ὁ (The) υἱός (son) σου (of You) ζῇ (lives).” καὶ (And) ἐπίστευσεν (he believed) αὐτὸς (himself), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) οἰκία (household) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὅλη (all).

⁷ καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ὕπαγε (Go), νίψαι (wash) εἰς (in) τὴν (the) κολυμβήθραν (pool) τοῦ (-) Σιλωάμ (of Siloam),” ὃ (which) ἑρμηνεύεται (means) Ἀπεσταλμένος (Sent). ἀπῆλθεν (He went) οὖν (therefore) καὶ (and) ἐνίψατο (washed), καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (came back) βλέπων (seeing).

¹⁰ ἐὰν (if) δέ (however) τις (anyone) περιπατῇ (walks) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) νυκτί (night), προσκόπτει (he stumbles), ὅτι (because) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him).”

⁸ Ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (now), οἱ (the) ὄχλοι (crowds) ἐφοβήθησαν (marveled) καὶ (and) ἐδόξασαν (glorified) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), τὸν (the One) δόντα (having given) ἐξουσίαν (authority) τοιαύτην (such) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (to men).

¹⁷ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Having answered) δὲ (then), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Οὐχὶ* (Not) οἱ (the) δέκα (ten) ἐκαθαρίσθησαν (were cleansed)? οἱ (-) δὲ (But) ἐννέα (the nine) ποῦ (are where)? ¹⁸ οὐχ (None) εὑρέθησαν (was there found) ὑποστρέψαντες (having returned) δοῦναι (to give) δόξαν (glory) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) ἀλλογενὴς (foreigner) οὗτος (this)?”

¹⁴ Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) εὑρίσκει (finds) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἴδε (Behold), ὑγιὴς (well) γέγονας (you have become); μηκέτι (no more) ἁμάρτανε (sin), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) χεῖρόν (worse) σοί (to you) τι (something) γένηται (happens).”

³⁸ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἔφη (he was saying), “Πιστεύω (I believe), Κύριε (Lord).” καὶ (And) προσεκύνησεν (he worshiped) αὐτῷ (Him).

¹¹ καὶ (And) ἐλθόντες (having come) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house), εἶδον (they found) τὸ (the) παιδίον (Child) μετὰ (with) Μαρίας (Mary) τῆς (the) μητρὸς (mother) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) πεσόντες (having fallen down), προσεκύνησαν (they worshiped) αὐτῷ (Him); καὶ (and) ἀνοίξαντες (having opened) τοὺς (the) θησαυροὺς (treasures) αὐτῶν (of them), προσήνεγκαν (they offered) αὐτῷ (to Him) δῶρα (gifts), χρυσὸν (gold) καὶ (and) λίβανον (frankincense) καὶ (and) σμύρναν (myrrh).

⁵ Τούτους (These) τοὺς (-) δώδεκα (twelve) ἀπέστειλεν (sent forth) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), παραγγείλας (having instructed) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), “Εἰς (Into) ὁδὸν (the way) ἐθνῶν (of the Gentiles) μὴ (not) ἀπέλθητε (go off), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) πόλιν (any city) Σαμαριτῶν (of the Samaritans) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθητε (enter);

³³ ἡ (-) δὲ (And) γυνὴ (the woman), φοβηθεῖσα (having been frightened) καὶ (and) τρέμουσα (trembling), εἰδυῖα (knowing) ὃ (what) γέγονεν (had been done) αὐτῇ (to her), ἦλθεν (came) καὶ (and) προσέπεσεν (fell down before) αὐτῷ (Him) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (told) αὐτῷ (Him) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth).

⁸ Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (now), Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) προσέπεσεν (fell at) τοῖς (the) γόνασιν (knees) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus), λέγων (saying), “Ἔξελθε (Depart) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (me), ὅτι (for) ἀνὴρ (a man) ἁμαρτωλός (sinful) εἰμι (am I), Κύριε (Lord).”

⁵² καὶ (And) ἀπέστειλεν (He sent) ἀγγέλους (messengers) πρὸ (before) προσώπου (the face) αὐτοῦ (of Him). καὶ (And) πορευθέντες (having gone), εἰσῆλθον (they entered) εἰς (into) κώμην (a village) Σαμαριτῶν (of the Samaritans), ὡς* (so as) ἑτοιμάσαι (to make ready) αὐτῷ (for Him). ⁵³ καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἐδέξαντο (they did receive) αὐτόν (Him), ὅτι (because) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἦν (was as) πορευόμενον (going) εἰς (toward) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem). ⁵⁴ Ἰδόντες (Having seen it) δὲ (now), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) Ἰάκωβος (James) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John) εἶπαν (said), “Κύριε (Lord), θέλεις (will You that) εἴπωμεν (we should call) πῦρ (fire) καταβῆναι (to come down) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) ἀναλῶσαι (to consume) αὐτούς (them)?” ⁵⁵ Στραφεὶς (Having turned) δὲ (then), ἐπετίμησεν (He rebuked) αὐτοῖς (them). ⁵⁶ καὶ (And) ἐπορεύθησαν (they went) εἰς (to) ἑτέραν (another) κώμην (village).

³² Ὁμοίως (Likewise) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) Λευίτης (a Levite) [γενόμενος] (having come) κατὰ (to) τὸν (the) τόπον (spot), ἐλθὼν (having come) καὶ (and) ἰδὼν (having seen him), ἀντιπαρῆλθεν (passed by on the opposite side). ³³ Σαμαρίτης (A Samaritan) δέ (however), τις (one) ὁδεύων (journeying), ἦλθεν (came) κατ’ (to) αὐτὸν (him), καὶ (and) ἰδὼν (having seen) ἐσπλαγχνίσθη (was moved with compassion), ³⁴ καὶ (and) προσελθὼν (having approached), κατέδησεν (he bound up) τὰ (the) τραύματα (wounds) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἐπιχέων (pouring on) ἔλαιον (oil) καὶ (and) οἶνον (wine); ἐπιβιβάσας (having put) δὲ (then) αὐτὸν (him) ἐπὶ (on) τὸ (the) ἴδιον (own) κτῆνος (beast), ἤγαγεν (he brought) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (to) πανδοχεῖον (an inn) καὶ (and) ἐπεμελήθη (took care) αὐτοῦ (of him). ³⁵ Καὶ (And) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) αὔριον (next day), ἐκβαλὼν (having taken out) «δύο (two) δηνάρια» (denarii), ἔδωκεν (he gave them) τῷ (to the) πανδοχεῖ (innkeeper) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), ‘Ἐπιμελήθητι (Take care) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) ὅ (whatever) τι (more) ἂν (-) προσδαπανήσῃς (you might expend), ἐγὼ (of me) ἐν (on) τῷ (-) ἐπανέρχεσθαί (returning), με (I) ἀποδώσω (will repay) σοι (you).’

⁹ Λέγει (Says) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἡ (-) Σαμαρῖτις (Samaritan), “Πῶς (How) σὺ (You) Ἰουδαῖος (a Jew) ὢν (being), παρ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (me) πεῖν (to drink) αἰτεῖς (do ask), γυναικὸς (a woman) Σαμαρίτιδος (Samaritan) οὔσης (being)?” οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) συνχρῶνται (have association) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) Σαμαρίταις (with Samaritans).

²¹ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Πίστευέ (Believe) μοι (Me), γύναι (woman), ὅτι (that) ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour) ὅτε (when) οὔτε (neither) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) ὄρει (mountain) τούτῳ (this), οὔτε (nor) ἐν (in) Ἱεροσολύμοις (Jerusalem), προσκυνήσετε (will you worship) τῷ (the) Πατρί (Father). ²² ὑμεῖς (You) προσκυνεῖτε (worship) ὃ (what) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (you know); ἡμεῖς (we) προσκυνοῦμεν (worship) ὃ (what) οἴδαμεν (we know), ὅτι (for) ἡ (-) σωτηρία (salvation) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews) ἐστίν (is).

³⁹ Ἐκ (Out of) δὲ (now) τῆς (the) πόλεως (city) ἐκείνης (that), πολλοὶ (many) ἐπίστευσαν (believed) εἰς (in) αὐτὸν (Him) τῶν (of the) Σαμαριτῶν (Samaritans), διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τῆς (of the) γυναικὸς (woman) μαρτυρούσης (testifying) ὅτι (-), “Εἶπέν (He told) μοι (me) πάντα (all things) ἃ (whatever) ἐποίησα (I did).” ⁴⁰ ὡς (When) οὖν (therefore) ἦλθον (came) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) Σαμαρῖται (Samaritans), ἠρώτων (they were asking) αὐτὸν (Him) μεῖναι (to abide) παρ’ (with) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (and) ἔμεινεν (He stayed) ἐκεῖ (there) δύο (two) ἡμέρας (days). ⁴¹ Καὶ (And) πολλῷ (many) πλείους (more) ἐπίστευσαν (believed), διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) αὐτοῦ (of Him); ⁴² τῇ (-) τε (and) γυναικὶ (to the woman) ἔλεγον (they were saying) ὅτι (-), “Οὐκέτι (No longer) διὰ (because of) τὴν (-) σὴν (your) λαλιὰν (speech) πιστεύομεν (we believe); αὐτοὶ (we ourselves) γὰρ (for) ἀκηκόαμεν (have heard), καὶ (and) οἴδαμεν (we know) ὅτι (that) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ἀληθῶς (truly) ὁ (the) Σωτὴρ (Savior) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world).”

²³ ἵνα (so that) πάντες (all) τιμῶσι (may honor) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), καθὼς (even as) τιμῶσι (they honor) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ὁ (He who) μὴ (not) τιμῶν (is honoring) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), οὐ (not) τιμᾷ (is honoring) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), τὸν (the One) πέμψαντα (having sent) αὐτόν (Him).

⁴⁸ Ἀπεκρίθησαν (Answered) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) καὶ (and) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Οὐ (Not) καλῶς (rightly) λέγομεν (say) ἡμεῖς (we) ὅτι (that) Σαμαρίτης (a Samaritan) εἶ (are) σὺ (You), καὶ (and) δαιμόνιον (a demon) ἔχεις (have)?”

⁸ ἀλλὰ (But) λήμψεσθε (you will receive) δύναμιν (power), ἐπελθόντος (having come) τοῦ (the) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματος (Spirit) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) ἔσεσθέ (you will be) μου (for Me) μάρτυρες (witnesses), ἔν (in) τε (both) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea), καὶ (and) Σαμαρείᾳ (Samaria), καὶ (and) ἕως (to) ἐσχάτου (the uttermost part) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth).”

⁵ Φίλιππος (Philip) δὲ (now), κατελθὼν (having gone down) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) πόλιν (a city) τῆς (-) Σαμαρείας (of Samaria), ἐκήρυσσεν (was proclaiming) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸν (the) Χριστόν (Christ). ⁶ προσεῖχον (Were giving heed) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) ὄχλοι (crowds) τοῖς (to the things) λεγομένοις (being spoken) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) Φιλίππου (Philip) ὁμοθυμαδὸν (with one accord), ἐν (in) τῷ (the time) ἀκούειν (to hear) αὐτοὺς (them) καὶ (and) βλέπειν (to see) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἃ (that) ἐποίει (he was performing). ⁷ πολλοὶ (Many) γὰρ (for) τῶν (of those) ἐχόντων (having) πνεύματα (spirits) ἀκάθαρτα (unclean), βοῶντα (crying) φωνῇ (voice) μεγάλῃ (in a loud), ἐξήρχοντο (they were coming out of them); πολλοὶ (many) δὲ (now), παραλελυμένοι (having been paralyzed) καὶ (and) χωλοὶ (lame), ἐθεραπεύθησαν (were healed). ⁸ ἐγένετο (There was) δὲ (then) πολλὴ (great) χαρὰ (joy) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πόλει (city) ἐκείνῃ (that). ⁹ Ἀνὴρ (A man) δέ (now) τις (certain), ὀνόματι (named) Σίμων (Simon), προϋπῆρχεν (had been formerly) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πόλει (city) μαγεύων (practicing sorcery) καὶ (and) ἐξιστάνων (amazing) τὸ (the) ἔθνος (people) τῆς (-) Σαμαρείας (of Samaria), λέγων (declaring) εἶναί (to be) τινα (someone) ἑαυτὸν (himself) μέγαν (great), ¹⁰ ᾧ (to whom) προσεῖχον (were giving heed) πάντες (all), ἀπὸ (from) μικροῦ (small) ἕως (to) μεγάλου (great), λέγοντες (saying), “Οὗτός (This one) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) δύναμις (power) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἡ (that) καλουμένη (is called) Μεγάλη (Great).” ¹¹ προσεῖχον (They were giving heed) δὲ (now) αὐτῷ (to him), διὰ (because) τὸ (the) ἱκανῷ (long) χρόνῳ (time) ταῖς (with the) μαγείαις* (magic arts) ἐξεστακέναι (he had amazed) αὐτούς (them). ¹² Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἐπίστευσαν (they believed) τῷ (-) Φιλίππῳ (Philip), εὐαγγελιζομένῳ (proclaiming the gospel) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματος (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ἐβαπτίζοντο (they were baptized), ἄνδρες (men) τε (both) καὶ (and) γυναῖκες (women). ¹³ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Σίμων (Simon) καὶ (also) αὐτὸς (himself) ἐπίστευσεν (believed), καὶ (and) βαπτισθεὶς (having been baptized), ἦν (was) προσκαρτερῶν (steadfastly continuing) τῷ (-) Φιλίππῳ (with Philip). θεωρῶν (Beholding) τε (then) σημεῖα (the signs) καὶ (and) δυνάμεις (miracles) μεγάλας (great) γινομένας (being performed), ἐξίστατο (he was amazed). ¹⁴ Ἀκούσαντες (Having heard) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) ἐν (in) Ἱεροσολύμοις (Jerusalem) ἀπόστολοι (apostles) ὅτι (that) δέδεκται (had received) ἡ (-) Σαμάρεια (Samaria) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀπέστειλαν (they sent) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) Πέτρον (Peter) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννην (John), ¹⁵ οἵτινες (who) καταβάντες (having come down), προσηύξαντο (prayed) περὶ (for) αὐτῶν (them) ὅπως (that) λάβωσιν (they might receive the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) Ἅγιον (Holy). ¹⁶ οὐδέπω (Not yet) γὰρ (for) ἦν (He was) ἐπ’ (upon) οὐδενὶ (any) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπιπεπτωκός (fallen); μόνον (only) δὲ (however) βεβαπτισμένοι (baptized) ὑπῆρχον (they had been) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ¹⁷ τότε (Then) ἐπετίθεσαν (they began laying) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτούς (them), καὶ (and) ἐλάμβανον (they received) Πνεῦμα (the Spirit) Ἅγιον (Holy). ¹⁸ Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) Σίμων (of Simon) ὅτι (that) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐπιθέσεως (laying on) τῶν (of the) χειρῶν (hands) τῶν (of the) ἀποστόλων (apostles) δίδοται (was given) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit), προσήνεγκεν (he offered) αὐτοῖς (to them) χρήματα (money), ¹⁹ λέγων (saying), “Δότε (Give) κἀμοὶ (also to me) τὴν (the) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ταύτην (this), ἵνα (that) ᾧ (on whom) ἐὰν (if) ἐπιθῶ (I may lay) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands), λαμβάνῃ (he may receive) Πνεῦμα (the Spirit) Ἅγιον (Holy).” ²⁰ Πέτρος (Peter) δὲ (however) εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (him), “Τὸ (The) ἀργύριόν (silver) σου (of you), σὺν (with) σοὶ (you) εἴη (may it be) εἰς (to) ἀπώλειαν (destruction), ὅτι (because) τὴν (the) δωρεὰν (gift) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐνόμισας (you thought) διὰ (by) χρημάτων (money) κτᾶσθαι (to be obtained)! ²¹ οὐκ (No) ἔστιν (there is) σοι (to you) μερὶς (part), οὐδὲ (nor) κλῆρος (lot), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) λόγῳ (matter) τούτῳ (this); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) καρδία (heart) σου (of you) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) εὐθεῖα (right) ἔναντι (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God). ²² μετανόησον (Repent) οὖν (therefore) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) κακίας (wickedness) σου (of yours) ταύτης (this), καὶ (and) δεήθητι (pray earnestly to) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord), εἰ (if) ἄρα (indeed) ἀφεθήσεταί (will be forgiven) σοι (you) ἡ (the) ἐπίνοια (intent) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) σου (of you); ²³ εἰς (in) γὰρ (for) χολὴν (the gall) πικρίας (of bitterness) καὶ (and) σύνδεσμον (the bond) ἀδικίας (of iniquity), ὁρῶ (I see) σε (you) ὄντα (being).” ²⁴ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Σίμων (Simon) εἶπεν (said), “Δεήθητε (Pray earnestly) ὑμεῖς (you) ὑπὲρ (on behalf) ἐμοῦ (of me) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord), ὅπως (so that) μηδὲν (nothing) ἐπέλθῃ (may come) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me) ὧν (of which) εἰρήκατε (you have spoken).” ²⁵ Οἱ (They) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (therefore) διαμαρτυράμενοι (having earnestly testified), καὶ (and) λαλήσαντες (having spoken) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), ὑπέστρεφον (traveled back) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem), πολλάς (to many) τε (then) κώμας (villages) τῶν (of the) Σαμαριτῶν (Samaritans) εὐηγγελίζοντο (they were preaching the gospel).

²⁵ Ὡς (As) δὲ (then) ἐγένετο (was) τοῦ (-) εἰσελθεῖν (entering) τὸν (-) Πέτρον (Peter), συναντήσας (having met) αὐτῷ (him) ὁ (-) Κορνήλιος (Cornelius), πεσὼν (having fallen) ἐπὶ (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet), προσεκύνησεν (worshiped him). ²⁶ ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Πέτρος (Peter) ἤγειρεν (lifted up) αὐτὸν (him), λέγων (saying), “Ἀνάστηθι (Rise up), καὶ (also) ἐγὼ (I) αὐτὸς (myself) ἄνθρωπός (a man) εἰμι (am).”

¹⁰ πεσοῦνται (will fall) οἱ (the) εἴκοσι (twenty) τέσσαρες (four) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the One) καθημένου (sitting) ἐπὶ (upon) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), καὶ (and) προσκυνήσουσιν (they will worship) τῷ (the One) ζῶντι (living) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) βαλοῦσιν (they will cast) τοὺς (the) στεφάνους (crowns) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), λέγοντες (saying):

¹⁴ Καὶ (And) τὰ (the) τέσσαρα (four) ζῷα (living creatures) ἔλεγον (kept saying), “Ἀμήν (Amen).” καὶ (And) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) ἔπεσαν (fell down) καὶ (and) προσεκύνησαν (worshiped).

⁴ Καὶ (And) ἔπεσαν (fell down) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) οἱ (-) εἴκοσι (twenty) τέσσαρες (four) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) τέσσαρα (four) ζῷα (living creatures), καὶ (and) προσεκύνησαν (they worshiped) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God), τῷ (the One) καθημένῳ (sitting) ἐπὶ (on) τῷ (the) θρόνῳ (throne), λέγοντες (saying): “Ἀμήν (Amen), Ἁλληλουϊά (Hallelujah)!” ⁵ Καὶ (And) φωνὴ (a voice) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne) ἐξῆλθεν (came forth), λέγουσα (saying): “Αἰνεῖτε (Praise) τῷ (the) Θεῷ (God) ἡμῶν (of us), πάντες (all) οἱ (the) δοῦλοι (servants) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ‹καὶ› (and) οἱ (those) φοβούμενοι (fearing) αὐτόν (Him), οἱ (the) μικροὶ (small) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) μεγάλοι (great)!”

¹⁰ Καὶ (And) ἔπεσα (I fell) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τῶν (the) ποδῶν (feet) αὐτοῦ (of him) προσκυνῆσαι (to worship) αὐτῷ (him). καὶ (And) λέγει (he says) μοι (to me), “Ὅρα (See that you) μή (not). σύνδουλός (A fellow servant) σού (with you) εἰμι (I am), καὶ (and) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) σου (of you), τῶν (-) ἐχόντων (holding) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus). τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God) προσκύνησον (worship)! ἡ (The) γὰρ (for) μαρτυρία (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) τῆς (-) προφητείας (of prophecy).”

⁷ Ὡς (As) δὲ (however) ἐπέμενον (they continued) ἐρωτῶντες (asking) αὐτόν (Him), [ἀνέκυψεν (having lifted Himself up) καὶ (also), εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς] (to them), “Ὁ (The one) ἀναμάρτητος (sinless) ὑμῶν (among you), πρῶτος (the first) 〈τὸν〉 (-) λίθον (stone) «ἐπ’ (at) αὐτῇ (her) βαλέτω» (let him cast).” ⁸ καὶ (And) πάλιν (again) κάτω¦κύψας (having stooped down), ἔγραφεν (He continued to write) εἰς (on) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground). ⁹ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἀκούσαντες (having heard), ἐξήρχοντο (they began to go away) εἷς (one) καθ‿ (by) εἷς (one) ἀρξάμενοι (having begun) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elder ones) 〈ἕως (until) τῶν (the) ἐσχάτων〉 (last), καὶ (and) κατελείφθη (He was left) μόνος (alone), 〈ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς〉 (Jesus) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) οὖσα* (being). ¹⁰ ἀνακύψας (Having lifted up) δὲ (then), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῇ (to her), 〈Ἡ〉 (-) “Γύναι* (Woman), ποῦ (where) εἰσιν (are) 〈ἐκεῖνοι (they) οἱ (who) κατήγοροί (accuse) σου〉 (you)? οὐδείς (No one) σε (you) κατέκρινεν (has condemned)?”

²¹ Διότι (For) γνόντες (having known) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), οὐχ (not) ὡς (as) Θεὸν (God) ἐδόξασαν (they glorified Him), ἢ (or) ηὐχαρίστησαν (were thankful), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐματαιώθησαν (they became futile) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) διαλογισμοῖς (thinking) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ἐσκοτίσθη (was darkened) ἡ (the) ἀσύνετος (foolish) αὐτῶν (of them) καρδία (heart).

¹⁰ Ἀκούσας (Having heard) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐθαύμασεν (marveled), καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) τοῖς (to those) ἀκολουθοῦσιν (following), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), παρ’ (except) οὐδενὶ (no one) τοσαύτην (so great) πίστιν (faith) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Ἰσραὴλ (Israel) εὗρον (have I found).

¹² οἱ (the) δὲ (however) υἱοὶ (sons) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) ἐκβληθήσονται (will be cast out), εἰς (into) τὸ (the) σκότος (darkness) τὸ (the) ἐξώτερον (outer), ἐκεῖ (there) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) κλαυθμὸς (weeping) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) βρυγμὸς (gnashing) τῶν (of the) ὀδόντων (teeth).”

²⁴ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) εἶπεν (He said), “Οὐκ (Not) ἀπεστάλην (I was sent), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) πρόβατα (sheep) τὰ (-) ἀπολωλότα (being lost) οἴκου (of the house) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel).” ²⁵ Ἡ (-) δὲ (And) ἐλθοῦσα (having come), προσεκύνει (she was worshiping) αὐτῷ (Him), λέγουσα (saying), “Κύριε (Lord), βοήθει (help) μοι (me)!” ²⁶ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said), “Οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (it is) καλὸν (right) λαβεῖν (to take) τὸν (the) ἄρτον (bread) τῶν (of the) τέκνων (children), καὶ (and) βαλεῖν (to cast it) τοῖς (to the) κυναρίοις (dogs).” ²⁷ Ἡ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (she said), “Ναί (Yes), κύριε (Lord); καὶ (even) γὰρ (however) τὰ (the) κυνάρια (dogs) ἐσθίει (eat) ἀπὸ (of) τῶν (the) ψιχίων (crumbs) τῶν (-) πιπτόντων (falling) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) τραπέζης (table) τῶν (of the) κυρίων (masters) αὐτῶν (of them).” ²⁸ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῇ (to her), “Ὦ (O) γύναι (woman), μεγάλη (great is) σου (of you) ἡ (the) πίστις (faith)! γενηθήτω (Be it) σοι (to you) ὡς (as) θέλεις (you desire).” καὶ (And) ἰάθη (was healed) ἡ (the) θυγάτηρ (daughter) αὐτῆς (of her) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ὥρας (hour) ἐκείνης (that).

³⁰ Πολλοὶ (Many) δὲ (however) ἔσονται (will be) πρῶτοι (first) ἔσχατοι (last), καὶ (and) ἔσχατοι (last) πρῶτοι (first).

¹⁶ Οὕτως (Thus) ἔσονται (will be) οἱ (the) ἔσχατοι (last) πρῶτοι (first), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρῶτοι (first), ἔσχατοι (last).”

⁷ λέγων (saying) ἐν (in) φωνῇ (a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), “Φοβήθητε (Fear) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), καὶ (and) δότε (give) αὐτῷ (Him) δόξαν (glory), ὅτι (because) ἦλθεν (has come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour) τῆς (of the) κρίσεως (judgment) αὐτοῦ (of Him). καὶ (And) προσκυνήσατε (worship) τῷ (the One) ποιήσαντι (having made) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) θάλασσαν (sea), καὶ (and) πηγὰς (springs) ὑδάτων (of waters).”

²² Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), στραφεὶς (having turned) καὶ (and) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὴν (her), εἶπεν (said), “Θάρσει (Take courage), θύγατερ (daughter); ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has cured) σε (you).” καὶ (And) ἐσώθη (was cured) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ὥρας (hour) ἐκείνης (very).

³⁴ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῇ (to her), “Θυγάτηρ (Daughter), ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has healed) σε (you); ὕπαγε (go) εἰς (in) εἰρήνην (peace) καὶ (and) ἴσθι (be) ὑγιὴς (sound) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) μάστιγός (affliction) σου (of you).”

⁵² Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ὕπαγε (Go), ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has healed) σε (you).” καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἀνέβλεψεν (he received sight), καὶ (and) ἠκολούθει (he began following) αὐτῷ (Him) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ὁδῷ (way).

⁵⁰ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (woman), “Ἡ (The) πίστις (faith) σου (of You) σέσωκέν (has saved) σε (you); πορεύου (go) εἰς (in) εἰρήνην (peace).”

⁴⁸ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῇ (to her), “Θυγάτηρ (Daughter), ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has healed) σε (you); πορεύου (go) εἰς (in) εἰρήνην (peace).”

⁴² Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἀνάβλεψον (Receive sight)! ἡ (The) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has healed) σε (you).”

¹¹ ‘Καὶ (Even) τὸν (the) κονιορτὸν (dust) τὸν (-) κολληθέντα (having clung) ἡμῖν (to us) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) πόλεως (city) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet), ἀπομασσόμεθα (we wipe off) ὑμῖν (against you); πλὴν (yet) τοῦτο (this) γινώσκετε (know), ὅτι (that) ἤγγικεν (has drawn near) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).’

¹⁶ Ὁ (The) νόμος (law) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) προφῆται (prophets were) μέχρι (until) Ἰωάννου (John); ἀπὸ (from) τότε (that time) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) εὐαγγελίζεται (is proclaimed), καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) εἰς (into) αὐτὴν (it) βιάζεται (forces his way).

²³ καὶ (And) ἐροῦσιν (they will say) ὑμῖν (to you), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ἐκεῖ (there),’ [ἤ] (or) ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ὧδε (here).’ μὴ (Not) ἀπέλθητε (go forth) μηδὲ (nor) διώξητε (follow). ²⁴ ὥσπερ (As) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) ἀστραπὴ (lightning) ἀστράπτουσα (flashing) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the one end) ὑπὸ (of) τὸν (the) οὐρανὸν (sky) εἰς (to) τὴν (the other end) ὑπ’ (of the) οὐρανὸν (sky) λάμπει (shines), οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

¹¹ Ἀκουόντων (Were hearing) δὲ (while) αὐτῶν (they) ταῦτα (these things), προσθεὶς (having proceeded), εἶπεν (He spoke) παραβολὴν (a parable), διὰ (because) τὸ (-) ἐγγὺς (near) εἶναι (being) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) αὐτὸν (of His), καὶ (and) δοκεῖν (thinking) αὐτοὺς (their) ὅτι (that) παραχρῆμα (immediately) μέλλει (is about) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἀναφαίνεσθαι (to appear).

³⁶ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἡ (The) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (My) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this); εἰ (if) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this) ἦν (were) ἡ (-) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἡ (-) ἐμή (My), οἱ (-) ὑπηρέται (attendants) ἄν (-) «οἱ (-) ἐμοὶ (My) ἠγωνίζοντο» (would fight) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) παραδοθῶ (I might be betrayed) τοῖς (to the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews). νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) ἡ (-) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (My) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐντεῦθεν (from here).”

⁶ Οἱ (Those) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (therefore) συνελθόντες (having come together), ἠρώτων (were asking) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Κύριε (Lord), εἰ (if) ἐν (at) τῷ (the) χρόνῳ (time) τούτῳ (this), ἀποκαθιστάνεις (are you restoring) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῷ (-) Ἰσραήλ (to Israel)?” ⁷ Εἶπεν (He said) ‹δὲ› (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Οὐχ (Not) ὑμῶν (yours) ἐστιν (it is) γνῶναι (to know) χρόνους (times) ἢ (or) καιροὺς (seasons) οὓς (which) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἔθετο (put in place) ἐν (by) τῇ (-) ἰδίᾳ (His own) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority).

²⁸ εἰ (If) δὲ (however) ἐν (by the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐγὼ (I) ἐκβάλλω (cast out) τὰ (-) δαιμόνια (demons), ἄρα (then) ἔφθασεν (has come) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

²³ Τότε (Then) ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ὑμῖν (to you) εἴπῃ (says), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ὧδε (here is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ),’ ἤ (or) ‘Ὧδε (Here),’ μὴ (not) πιστεύσητε (believe it). ²⁴ ἐγερθήσονται (There will arise) γὰρ (for) ψευδόχριστοι (false Christs) καὶ (and) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets), καὶ (and) δώσουσιν (they will give) σημεῖα (signs) μεγάλα (great), καὶ (and) τέρατα (wonders), ὥστε (so as) πλανῆσαι (to mislead), εἰ (if) δυνατὸν (possible), καὶ (even) τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτούς (elect). ²⁵ ἰδοὺ (Behold), προείρηκα (I have foretold it) ὑμῖν (to you). ²⁶ Ἐὰν (If) οὖν (therefore) εἴπωσιν (they say) ὑμῖν (to you), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (wilderness) ἐστίν (He is),’ μὴ (not) ἐξέλθητε (go forth); Ἰδοὺ (or ‘Behold), ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ταμείοις (inner rooms),’ μὴ (not) πιστεύσητε (believe it). ²⁷ ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) ἀστραπὴ (lightning) ἐξέρχεται (comes forth) ἀπὸ (from the) ἀνατολῶν (east) καὶ (and) φαίνεται (shines) ἕως (as far as the) δυσμῶν (west), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man). ²⁸ ὅπου (For wherever) ἐὰν (if) ᾖ (may be) τὸ (the) πτῶμα (carcass), ἐκεῖ (there) συναχθήσονται (will be gathered) οἱ (the) ἀετοί (vultures).

²¹ Καὶ (And) τότε (then) ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ὑμῖν (to you) εἴπῃ (says), ‘Ἴδε (Behold), ὧδε (here is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ)! Ἴδε (Behold), ἐκεῖ (there)!’ μὴ (not) πιστεύετε (you shall believe it).

⁹ καὶ (And) θεραπεύετε (heal) τοὺς (-) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it) ἀσθενεῖς (the sick), καὶ (and) λέγετε (say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἤγγικεν (Has drawn near) ἐφ’ (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).’ ¹⁰ Εἰς (Into) ἣν (whatever) δ’ (now) ἂν (-) πόλιν (city) εἰσέλθητε (you might enter), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) δέχωνται (they receive) ὑμᾶς (you), ἐξελθόντες (having gone out) εἰς (into) τὰς (the) πλατείας (streets) αὐτῆς (of it), εἴπατε (say), ¹¹ ‘Καὶ (Even) τὸν (the) κονιορτὸν (dust) τὸν (-) κολληθέντα (having clung) ἡμῖν (to us) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) πόλεως (city) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet), ἀπομασσόμεθα (we wipe off) ὑμῖν (against you); πλὴν (yet) τοῦτο (this) γινώσκετε (know), ὅτι (that) ἤγγικεν (has drawn near) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).’

²³ καὶ (And) ἐροῦσιν (they will say) ὑμῖν (to you), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ἐκεῖ (there),’ [ἤ] (or) ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ὧδε (here).’ μὴ (Not) ἀπέλθητε (go forth) μηδὲ (nor) διώξητε (follow).

⁸ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said), “Βλέπετε (Take heed), μὴ (lest) πλανηθῆτε (you be led astray); πολλοὶ (many) γὰρ (for) ἐλεύσονται (will come) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) μου (of Me), λέγοντες (saying), ‘Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He),’ καί (and) ‘Ὁ (The) καιρὸς (time) ἤγγικεν (is drawn near).’ μὴ (Not) πορευθῆτε (go) ὀπίσω (after) αὐτῶν (them).

²⁶ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) αὐτοῖς (them) ὁ (-) Ἰωάννης (John) λέγων (saying), “Ἐγὼ (I) βαπτίζω (baptize) ἐν (with) ὕδατι (water); μέσος (but in the midst) ὑμῶν (of you) ἕστηκεν* (stands One) ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know),

¹⁷ οὐ (Not) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) βρῶσις (eating) καὶ (and) πόσις (drinking), ἀλλὰ (but) δικαιοσύνη (righteousness) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) καὶ (and) χαρὰ (joy) ἐν (in the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy).

²⁷ οἷς (to whom) ἠθέλησεν (has willed) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) γνωρίσαι (to make known) τί (what is) τὸ (the) πλοῦτος (riches) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (of the) μυστηρίου (mystery) τούτου (this) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles), ὅ* (which) ἐστιν (is) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), ἡ (the) ἐλπὶς (hope) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory),

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μὴ (Not) δύνανται (can) οἱ (the) υἱοὶ (sons) τοῦ (of the) νυμφῶνος (bridechamber) πενθεῖν (mourn) ἐφ’ (as) ὅσον (long as) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom)? ἐλεύσονται (Will come) δὲ (however) ἡμέραι (days) ὅταν (when) ἀπαρθῇ (shall have been taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom), καὶ (and) τότε (then) νηστεύσουσιν (they will fast).

²⁰ ἐλεύσονται (Will come) δὲ (however) ἡμέραι (the days) ὅταν (when) ἀπαρθῇ (will have been taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom), καὶ (and) τότε (then) νηστεύσουσιν (they will fast) ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (those) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (days).

³⁵ ἐλεύσονται (Will come) δὲ (however) ἡμέραι (days) καὶ (also) ὅταν (when) ἀπαρθῇ (shall be taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom); τότε (then) νηστεύσουσιν (they will fast) ἐν (in) ἐκείναις (those) ταῖς (-) ἡμέραις (days).”

³⁵ ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀφίεται (is left) ὑμῖν (to you) ὁ (the) οἶκος (house) ὑμῶν (of you). λέγω (I say) δὲ (now) ὑμῖν (to you), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἴδητέ (shall you see) με (Me) ἕως (until) ἥξει (the time comes) ὅτε (when) εἴπητε (you say), ‘Εὐλογημένος (Blessed is) ὁ (the One) ἐρχόμενος (coming) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Κυρίου (of the Lord).’”

³³ εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἔτι (Yet) χρόνον (time) μικρὸν (a little) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) εἰμι (I am), καὶ (and) ὑπάγω (I go) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the One) πέμψαντά (having sent) με (Me). ³⁴ ζητήσετέ (You will seek) με (Me) καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) εὑρήσετέ (will find) [με] (Me); καὶ (and) ὅπου (where) εἰμὶ (am) ἐγὼ (I), ὑμεῖς (you) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (are able) ἐλθεῖν (to come).” ³⁵ Εἶπον (Said) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) πρὸς (among) ἑαυτούς (themselves), “Ποῦ (Where) οὗτος (He) μέλλει (is about) πορεύεσθαι (to go) ὅτι (that) ἡμεῖς (we) οὐχ (not) εὑρήσομεν (will find) αὐτόν (Him)? μὴ (Not) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) Διασπορὰν (Dispersion) τῶν (among the) Ἑλλήνων (Greeks) μέλλει (is He about) πορεύεσθαι (to go) καὶ (and) διδάσκειν (to teach) τοὺς (the) Ἕλληνας (Greeks)? ³⁶ τίς (What) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) οὗτος (this) ὃν (that) εἶπεν (He said), ‘Ζητήσετέ (You will seek) με (Me), καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) εὑρήσετέ (will find) [με] (Me),’ καὶ (and) ‘Ὅπου (Where) εἰμὶ (am) ἐγὼ (I) ὑμεῖς (you) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (are able) ἐλθεῖν (to come)’?”

²¹ Εἶπεν (He said) οὖν (then) πάλιν (again) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἐγὼ (I) ὑπάγω (am going away) καὶ (and) ζητήσετέ (you will seek) με (Me), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἁμαρτίᾳ (sin) ὑμῶν (of you), ἀποθανεῖσθε (you will die); ὅπου (where) ἐγὼ (I) ὑπάγω (go), ὑμεῖς (you) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (are able) ἐλθεῖν (to come).” ²² Ἔλεγον (Were saying) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews), “Μήτι (Not) ἀποκτενεῖ (will He kill) ἑαυτὸν (Himself), ὅτι (that) λέγει (He says), ‘Ὅπου (Where) ἐγὼ (I) ὑπάγω (go), ὑμεῖς (you) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (are able) ἐλθεῖν (to come)’?” ²³ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (from) τῶν (-) κάτω (below) ἐστέ (are); ἐγὼ (I) ἐκ (from) τῶν (-) ἄνω (above) εἰμί (am). ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (of) τούτου (this) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) ἐστέ (are), ἐγὼ (I) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (am) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this). ²⁴ εἶπον (I said) οὖν (therefore) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ἀποθανεῖσθε (you will die) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἁμαρτίαις (sins) ὑμῶν (of you); ἐὰν (if) γὰρ (for) μὴ (not) πιστεύσητε (you believe) ὅτι (that) ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He), ἀποθανεῖσθε (you will die) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἁμαρτίαις (sins) ὑμῶν (of you).”

³⁵ Εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἔτι (Yet) μικρὸν (a little) χρόνον (while) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) ἐν (with) ὑμῖν (you) ἐστιν (is). περιπατεῖτε (Walk) ὡς (while) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) ἔχετε (you have), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) σκοτία (darkness) ὑμᾶς (you) καταλάβῃ (might overtake). καὶ (And) ὁ (the one) περιπατῶν (walking) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σκοτίᾳ (darkness) οὐκ (not) οἶδεν (knows) ποῦ (where) ὑπάγει (he is going).

³³ Τεκνία (Little children), ἔτι (yet) μικρὸν (a little while) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) εἰμι (I am). ζητήσετέ (You will seek) με (Me); καὶ (and), καθὼς (as) εἶπον (I said) τοῖς (to the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews) ὅτι (-): ‘Ὅπου (Where) ἐγὼ (I) ὑπάγω (go), ὑμεῖς (you) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (are able) ἐλθεῖν (to come),’ καὶ (also) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγω (I say) ἄρτι (now).

⁵ Νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) ὑπάγω (I go) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the One) πέμψαντά (having sent) με (Me), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (none) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you) ἐρωτᾷ (asks) με (Me), ‘Ποῦ (Where) ὑπάγεις (are You going)?’ ⁶ ἀλλ’ (But) ὅτι (because) ταῦτα (these things) λελάληκα (I have said) ὑμῖν (to you), ἡ (-) λύπη (sorrow) πεπλήρωκεν (has filled) ὑμῶν (your) τὴν (-) καρδίαν (heart). ⁷ ἀλλ’ (But) ἐγὼ (I) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth) λέγω (say) ὑμῖν (to you), συμφέρει (it is profitable) ὑμῖν (for you) ἵνα (that) ἐγὼ (I) ἀπέλθω (should go away). ἐὰν (If) γὰρ (for) μὴ (not) ἀπέλθω (I go away), ὁ (the) Παράκλητος (Helper) οὐ (no) μὴ (not at all) ἔλθῃ (will come) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you); ἐὰν (if) δὲ (however) πορευθῶ (I go), πέμψω (I will send) αὐτὸν (Him) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you).

¹⁶ Μικρὸν (A little while) καὶ (and) οὐκέτι (no longer) θεωρεῖτέ (you do behold) με (Me); καὶ (and) πάλιν (again) μικρὸν (a little while) καὶ (and) ὄψεσθέ (you will see) με (Me).” ¹⁷ Εἶπαν (Said) οὖν (therefore) ἐκ (some of) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of him) πρὸς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another), “Τί (What) ἐστιν (is) τοῦτο (this) ὃ (that) λέγει (He says) ἡμῖν (to us), ‘Μικρὸν (A little while) καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θεωρεῖτέ (you do behold) με (Me); καὶ (and), πάλιν (again) μικρὸν (a little while) καὶ (and) ὄψεσθέ (you will see) με (Me)’ καί (and) ‘Ὅτι (Because) ὑπάγω (I am going) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father)’?” ¹⁸ ἔλεγον (They were saying) οὖν (therefore), “Τοῦτο (This) «τί (what) ἐστιν» (is) ὃ (that) λέγει (He says), ‘Τὸ (a) μικρόν (little while)’? οὐκ (Not) οἴδαμεν (we do know) τί (what) λαλεῖ (He is saying).” ¹⁹ Ἔγνω (Knew) [ὁ] (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὅτι (that) ἤθελον (they were desiring) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐρωτᾶν (to ask), καὶ (and) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Περὶ (Concerning) τούτου (this) ζητεῖτε (do you inquire) μετ’ (among) ἀλλήλων (one another) ὅτι (that) εἶπον (I said), ‘Μικρὸν (A little while) καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θεωρεῖτέ (you do behold) με (Me), καὶ (and) πάλιν (again) μικρὸν (a little while) καὶ (and) ὄψεσθέ (you will see) με (Me)’? ²⁰ ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) κλαύσετε (will weep) καὶ (and) θρηνήσετε (will lament) ὑμεῖς (you), ὁ (-) δὲ (but) κόσμος (the world) χαρήσεται (will rejoice). ὑμεῖς (You) λυπηθήσεσθε (will be grieved), ἀλλ’ (but) ἡ (the) λύπη (grief) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) χαρὰν (joy) γενήσεται (will turn). ²¹ ἡ (The) γυνὴ (woman) ὅταν (when) τίκτῃ (she is giving birth), λύπην (pain) ἔχει (has), ὅτι (because) ἦλθεν (has come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour) αὐτῆς (of her); ὅταν (when) δὲ (however) γεννήσῃ (she brings forth) τὸ (the) παιδίον (child), οὐκέτι (no longer) μνημονεύει (she remembers) τῆς (the) θλίψεως (tribulation), διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) χαρὰν (joy) ὅτι (that) ἐγεννήθη (has been born) ἄνθρωπος (a man) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world). ²² καὶ (Also) ὑμεῖς (you) οὖν (therefore), νῦν (now) μὲν (indeed) λύπην (grief) ἔχετε (have); πάλιν (again) δὲ (however) ὄψομαι (I will see) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) χαρήσεται (will rejoice) ὑμῶν (your) ἡ (-) καρδία (heart), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) χαρὰν (joy) ὑμῶν (of you) οὐδεὶς (no one) αἴρει (will take) ἀφ’ (from) ὑμῶν (you).

Πάτερ (Father) ἅγιε (Holy), τήρησον (keep) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) σου (of You), ᾧ (which) δέδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me), ἵνα (that) ὦσιν (they may be) ἓν (one) καθὼς (as) ἡμεῖς (we are). ¹² ὅτε (When) ἤμην (I was) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them), ἐγὼ (I) ἐτήρουν (was keeping) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) σου (of You), ᾧ (which) δέδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me). καὶ (And) ἐφύλαξα (I guarded them), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (none) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) ἀπώλετο (has perished), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) τῆς (-) ἀπωλείας (of destruction), ἵνα (that) ἡ (the) γραφὴ (Scripture) πληρωθῇ (might be fulfilled). ¹³ Νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) πρὸς (to) σὲ (You) ἔρχομαι (I am coming); καὶ (and) ταῦτα (these things) λαλῶ (I speak) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world), ἵνα (so that) ἔχωσιν (they may have) τὴν (-) χαρὰν (joy) τὴν (-) ἐμὴν (My) πεπληρωμένην (fulfilled) ἐν (within) ἑαυτοῖς (them).

Ἴδε (Behold), ἐκεῖ (there)!’ μὴ (not) πιστεύετε (you shall believe it). ²² ἐγερθήσονται (There will arise) γὰρ* (for) ψευδόχριστοι (false Christs) καὶ (and) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets), καὶ (and) δώσουσιν* (will give) σημεῖα (signs) καὶ (and) τέρατα (wonders), πρὸς (so as) τὸ (-) ἀποπλανᾶν (to deceive) εἰ (if) δυνατὸν (possible), τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτούς (elect). ²³ ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) βλέπετε (take heed); προείρηκα (I have foretold) ὑμῖν (to you) πάντα (all things).

²¹ οὐδὲ (nor) ἐροῦσιν (will they say), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ὧδε (here),’ ἤ (or) ‘Ἐκεῖ (There).’ ἰδοὺ (Behold) γὰρ (for), ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐντὸς (in the midst) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐστιν (is).”

²⁷ ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) ἀστραπὴ (lightning) ἐξέρχεται (comes forth) ἀπὸ (from the) ἀνατολῶν (east) καὶ (and) φαίνεται (shines) ἕως (as far as the) δυσμῶν (west), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

³⁰ Καὶ (And) τότε (then) φανήσεται (will appear) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) ‹τῷ› (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), καὶ (and) τότε (then) κόψονται (will mourn) πᾶσαι (all) αἱ (the) φυλαὶ (tribes) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) ὄψονται (they will see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐπὶ (on) τῶν (the) νεφελῶν (clouds) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (of heaven) μετὰ (with) δυνάμεως (power) καὶ (and) δόξης (glory) πολλῆς (great).

³¹ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἔλθῃ (comes) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) πάντες (all) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him), τότε (then) καθίσει (He will sit) ἐπὶ (upon the) θρόνου (throne) δόξης (of glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

⁶⁴ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Σὺ (You) εἶπας (have said). πλὴν (But) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀπ’ (from) ἄρτι (now) ὄψεσθε (you will see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand) τῆς (-) δυνάμεως (of Power) καὶ (and) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐπὶ (upon) τῶν (the) νεφελῶν (clouds) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (of heaven).”

² αὐτοὶ (Yourselves) γὰρ (for) ἀκριβῶς (fully) οἴδατε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἡμέρα (the day) Κυρίου (of the Lord), ὡς (as) κλέπτης (a thief) ἐν (by) νυκτὶ (night), οὕτως (in this manner) ἔρχεται (comes).

² εἰς (for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ταχέως (quickly) σαλευθῆναι (to be shaken) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀπὸ (in) τοῦ (-) νοὸς (mind) μηδὲ (nor) θροεῖσθαι (to be troubled), μήτε (neither) διὰ (by) πνεύματος (spirit), μήτε (nor) διὰ (by) λόγου (word), μήτε (nor) δι’ (by) ἐπιστολῆς (letter), ὡς (as if) δι’ (by) ἡμῶν (us), ὡς (as) ὅτι (that) ἐνέστηκεν (is present) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord).

⁸ καὶ (And) τότε (then) ἀποκαλυφθήσεται (will be revealed) ὁ (the) ἄνομος (lawless one), ὃν (whom) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀνελεῖ (will slay) τῷ (with the) πνεύματι (breath) τοῦ (of the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) καταργήσει (will annul) τῇ (by the) ἐπιφανείᾳ (appearing) τῆς (of the) παρουσίας (coming) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

⁸ μακροθυμήσατε (Be patient) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you); στηρίξατε (strengthen) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you), ὅτι (because) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἤγγικεν (has drawn near).

¹⁰ Ἥξει (Will come) δὲ (however) ἡμέρα (the day) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ὡς (like) κλέπτης (a thief), ἐν (in) ᾗ (which) οἱ (the) οὐρανοὶ (heavens) ῥοιζηδὸν (with a roar) παρελεύσονται (will pass away), στοιχεῖα (elements) δὲ (then) καυσούμενα (burning with heat) λυθήσεται (will be dissolved), καὶ (and) γῆ (the earth) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it) ἔργα (works) [οὐχ] (not) εὑρεθήσεται (will be found).

²¹ Ἀπὸ (From) τότε (that time) ἤρξατο (began) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) δεικνύειν (to show) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) αὐτὸν (Him) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) ἀπελθεῖν (to go away), καὶ (and) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθῆναι (to be raised).

²² Συστρεφομένων (Were abiding) δὲ (now) αὐτῶν (they) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Γαλιλαίᾳ (Galilee), εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μέλλει (Is about) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοσθαι (to be betrayed) εἰς (into) χεῖρας (the hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men), ²³ καὶ (and) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθήσεται (He will be raised up).” καὶ (And) ἐλυπήθησαν (they were grieved) σφόδρα (deeply).

¹⁸ “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀναβαίνομεν (we go up) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδοθήσεται (will be betrayed) τοῖς (to the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματεῦσιν (scribes), καὶ (and) κατακρινοῦσιν (they will condemn) αὐτὸν (Him) 〈εἰς〉 (to) θανάτῳ* (death), ¹⁹ καὶ (and) παραδώσουσιν (they will betray) αὐτὸν (Him) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) εἰς (unto), τὸ (-) ἐμπαῖξαι (to mock) καὶ (and) μαστιγῶσαι (to flog) καὶ (and) σταυρῶσαι (to crucify); καὶ (and) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθήσεται (He will rise again).”

⁴² Λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐδέποτε (Never) ἀνέγνωτε (did you read) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) γραφαῖς (Scriptures): ‘Λίθον (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), Οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (the) κεφαλὴν (chief) γωνίας (corner). Παρὰ (From) Κυρίου (the Lord) ἐγένετο (was) αὕτη (this), Καὶ (and) ἔστιν (it is) θαυμαστὴ (marvelous) ἐν (in) ὀφθαλμοῖς (the eyes) ἡμῶν (of us)?’?

³¹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) αὐτοὺς (them) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer), καὶ (and) ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι (to be rejected) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) μετὰ (after) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) ἀναστῆναι (to rise again).

³¹ ἐδίδασκεν (He was teaching) γὰρ (for) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὅτι (-), “Ὁ (The) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοται (is delivered) εἰς (into the) χεῖρας (hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men), καὶ (and) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him); καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθεὶς (having been killed), μετὰ (on the) τρεῖς (third) ἡμέρας (day) ἀναστήσεται (He will arise).”

³³ ὅτι (-) “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀναβαίνομεν (we go up) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδοθήσεται (will be betrayed) τοῖς (to the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) καὶ (and) τοῖς (to the) γραμματεῦσιν (scribes), καὶ (and) κατακρινοῦσιν (they will condemn) αὐτὸν (Him) θανάτῳ (to death), καὶ (and) παραδώσουσιν (will betray) αὐτὸν (Him) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles).

¹⁰ οὐδὲ (Not even) τὴν (the) γραφὴν (Scripture) ταύτην (this) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read): ‘Λίθον (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), Οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (the) κεφαλὴν (chief) γωνίας (corner);

²² εἰπὼν (having said) ὅτι (-), “Δεῖ (It is necessary for) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer), καὶ (and) ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι (to be rejected) ἀπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθῆναι (to be raised).”

³¹ Παραλαβὼν (Having taken aside) δὲ (then) τοὺς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve), εἶπεν (He said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀναβαίνομεν (we go up) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) τελεσθήσεται (will be accomplished) πάντα (all things) τὰ (-) γεγραμμένα (having been written) διὰ (by) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (prophets) τῷ (about the) Υἱῷ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

³³ καὶ (And) μαστιγώσαντες (having flogged Him), ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him); καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (-) τρίτῃ (third) ἀναστήσεται (He will rise again).”

²⁵ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (He) εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ὦ (O) ἀνόητοι (foolish) καὶ (and) βραδεῖς (slow) τῇ (-) καρδίᾳ (of heart) τοῦ (-) πιστεύειν (to believe) ἐπὶ (in) πᾶσιν (all) οἷς (that) ἐλάλησαν (have spoken) οἱ (the) προφῆται (prophets). ²⁶ οὐχὶ (Not) ταῦτα (these things) ἔδει (was it necessary for) παθεῖν (to suffer) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ) καὶ (and) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him)?”

⁴⁶ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὅτι (-), “Οὕτως (Thus) γέγραπται (it has been written): παθεῖν (Was to suffer) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ), καὶ (and) ἀναστῆναι (to rise) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day);

¹¹ εἰς (To) τὰ (the) ἴδια (own) ἦλθεν (He came), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἴδιοι (own) αὐτὸν (Him) οὐ (not) παρέλαβον (received).

³⁸ ἵνα (so that) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) Ἠσαΐου (of Isaiah) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet) πληρωθῇ (might be fulfilled) ὃν (that) εἶπεν (said): “Κύριε (Lord), τίς (who) ἐπίστευσεν (has believed) τῇ (the) ἀκοῇ (report) ἡμῶν (of us)? καὶ (And) ὁ (the) βραχίων (arm) Κυρίου (of the Lord) τίνι (to whom) ἀπεκαλύφθη (has been revealed)?”

³⁷ ὥσπερ (As were) γὰρ (for) αἱ (the) ἡμέραι (days) τοῦ (-) Νῶε (of Noah), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man). ³⁸ ὡς (As) γὰρ (for) ἦσαν (they were) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) ἐκείναις (those) ταῖς (-) πρὸ (before) τοῦ (the) κατακλυσμοῦ (flood), τρώγοντες (eating) καὶ (and) πίνοντες (drinking), γαμοῦντες (marrying) καὶ (and) γαμίζοντες (giving in marriage), ἄχρι (until) ἧς (that) ἡμέρας (day) εἰσῆλθεν (entered) Νῶε (Noah) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κιβωτόν (ark). ³⁹ καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔγνωσαν (they knew), ἕως (until) ἦλθεν (came) ὁ (the) κατακλυσμὸς (flood) καὶ (and) ἦρεν (took away) ἅπαντας (all); οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (will be) καὶ (also) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

²² Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητάς (disciples), “Ἐλεύσονται (Will come) ἡμέραι (days) ὅτε (when) ἐπιθυμήσετε (you will desire) μίαν (one) τῶν (of the) ἡμερῶν (days) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἰδεῖν (to see), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ὄψεσθε (you will see it).

²⁴ ὥσπερ (As) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) ἀστραπὴ (lightning) ἀστράπτουσα (flashing) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the one end) ὑπὸ (of) τὸν (the) οὐρανὸν (sky) εἰς (to) τὴν (the other end) ὑπ’ (of the) οὐρανὸν (sky) λάμπει (shines), οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

⁸ λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ποιήσει (He will execute) τὴν (the) ἐκδίκησιν (avenging) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (in) τάχει (quickness). πλὴν (Nevertheless), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐλθὼν (having come), ἆρα (indeed) εὑρήσει (will He find) τὴν (-) πίστιν (faith) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth)?”

⁷ Πίστει (By faith) χρηματισθεὶς (having been divinely instructed) Νῶε (Noah) περὶ (concerning) τῶν (the things) μηδέπω (not yet) βλεπομένων (seen), εὐλαβηθεὶς (having been moved with fear), κατεσκεύασεν (prepared) κιβωτὸν (an ark) εἰς (for) σωτηρίαν (the salvation) τοῦ (of the) οἴκου (household) αὐτοῦ (of him), δι’ (by) ἧς (which) κατέκρινεν (he condemned) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) κατὰ (according to) πίστιν (faith) δικαιοσύνης (righteousness that is), ἐγένετο (he became) κληρονόμος (heir).

¹⁹ ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) καὶ (also) τοῖς (to the) ἐν (in) φυλακῇ (prison) πνεύμασιν (spirits), πορευθεὶς (having gone) ἐκήρυξεν (He preached), ²⁰ ἀπειθήσασίν (having disobeyed) ποτε (at one time), ὅτε (when) ἀπεξεδέχετο (was waiting) ἡ (the) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) μακροθυμία (longsuffering) ἐν (in) ἡμέραις (the days) Νῶε (of Noah), κατασκευαζομένης (being prepared) κιβωτοῦ (of the ark), εἰς (in) ἣν (which) ὀλίγοι (a few) — τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), ὀκτὼ (eight) ψυχαί (souls) — διεσώθησαν (were saved) δι’ (through) ὕδατος (water),

⁵ καὶ (and) ἀρχαίου (the ancient) κόσμου (world) οὐκ (not) ἐφείσατο (He spared), ἀλλὰ (but) ὄγδοον (one of eight), Νῶε (Noah) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness) κήρυκα (a herald) ἐφύλαξεν (preserved), κατακλυσμὸν (the flood upon) κόσμῳ (the world) ἀσεβῶν (of the ungodly) ἐπάξας (having brought in);

⁶ δι’ (through) ὧν (which) ὁ (the) τότε (at that time) κόσμος (world), ὕδατι (with water) κατακλυσθεὶς (having been deluged), ἀπώλετο (perished).

¹⁹ καὶ (And) ἐρῶ (I will say) τῇ (to the) ψυχῇ (soul) μου (of me), “Ψυχή (Soul), ἔχεις (you have) πολλὰ (many) ἀγαθὰ (good things) κείμενα (laid up) εἰς (for) ἔτη (years) πολλά (many); ἀναπαύου (take your rest); φάγε (eat), πίε (drink), εὐφραίνου (be merry).”’ ²⁰ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Θεός (God), ‘Ἄφρων (Fool)! ταύτῃ (This) τῇ (-) νυκτὶ (night), τὴν (the) ψυχήν (soul) σου (of you) ἀπαιτοῦσιν (is required) ἀπὸ (of) σοῦ (you); ἃ (what) δὲ (now) ἡτοίμασας (you did prepare)— τίνι (to whom) ἔσται (will it be)?’

¹⁹ Ἄνθρωπος (A man) δέ (now) τις (certain) ἦν (there was) πλούσιος (rich), καὶ (and) ἐνεδιδύσκετο (he was clothed in) πορφύραν (purple) καὶ (and) βύσσον (fine linen), εὐφραινόμενος (making good cheer) καθ’ (every) ἡμέραν (day) λαμπρῶς (in splendor). ²⁰ πτωχὸς (A poor man) δέ (now) τις (certain) ὀνόματι (named) Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ἐβέβλητο (was laid) πρὸς (at) τὸν (the) πυλῶνα (gate) αὐτοῦ (of him), εἱλκωμένος (being full of sores) ²¹ καὶ (and) ἐπιθυμῶν (desiring) χορτασθῆναι (to be fed) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (that) πιπτόντων (falling) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) τραπέζης (table) τοῦ (of the) πλουσίου (rich man); ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (even) οἱ (the) κύνες (dogs), ἐρχόμενοι (coming), ἐπέλειχον (were licking) τὰ (the) ἕλκη (sores) αὐτοῦ (of him). ²² Ἐγένετο (It came to pass that) δὲ (then) ἀποθανεῖν (died) τὸν (the) πτωχὸν (poor man), καὶ (and) ἀπενεχθῆναι (was carried away) αὐτὸν (he) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόλπον (bosom) Ἀβραάμ (of Abraham). ἀπέθανεν (Died) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) πλούσιος (rich man) καὶ (and) ἐτάφη (was buried). ²³ καὶ (And) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) ᾅδῃ (Hades), ἐπάρας (having lifted up) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of him), ὑπάρχων (being) ἐν (in) βασάνοις (torment), ὁρᾷ (he sees) Ἀβραὰμ (Abraham) ἀπὸ (from) μακρόθεν (afar), καὶ (and) Λάζαρον (Lazarus) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) κόλποις (bosom) αὐτοῦ (of him).

¹ Περὶ (Concerning) δὲ (now) τῶν (the) χρόνων (times) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) καιρῶν (seasons), ἀδελφοί (brothers), οὐ (no) χρείαν (need) ἔχετε (you have) ὑμῖν (to you) γράφεσθαι (to be written). ² αὐτοὶ (Yourselves) γὰρ (for) ἀκριβῶς (fully) οἴδατε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἡμέρα (the day) Κυρίου (of the Lord), ὡς (as) κλέπτης (a thief) ἐν (by) νυκτὶ (night), οὕτως (in this manner) ἔρχεται (comes). ³ ὅταν (For when) λέγωσιν (they might say), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) καὶ (and) ἀσφάλεια (security),” τότε (then) αἰφνίδιος (suddenly) αὐτοῖς (upon them) ἐφίσταται* (comes) ὄλεθρος (destruction), ὥσπερ (as) ἡ (the) ὠδὶν (labor pains) τῇ (to her) ἐν (in) γαστρὶ (womb) ἐχούσῃ (having); καὶ (and) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐκφύγωσιν (shall they escape).

¹ Ἄγε (Come) νῦν (now), οἱ (you) πλούσιοι (rich), κλαύσατε (weep), ὀλολύζοντες (wailing) ἐπὶ (over) ταῖς (the) ταλαιπωρίαις (miseries) ὑμῶν (upon you) ταῖς (that are) ἐπερχομέναις (coming). ² ὁ (The) πλοῦτος (riches) ὑμῶν (of You) σέσηπεν (have rotted), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) ὑμῶν (of you) σητόβρωτα (moth-eaten) γέγονεν (have become). ³ ὁ (The) χρυσὸς (gold) ὑμῶν (of you) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἄργυρος (silver) κατίωται (have corroded), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἰὸς (rust) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (for) μαρτύριον (a testimony) ὑμῖν (against you) ἔσται (will be), καὶ (and) φάγεται (will eat) τὰς (the) σάρκας (flesh) ὑμῶν (of you) ὡς (like) πῦρ (fire). Ἐθησαυρίσατε (You have treasured up) ἐν (in) ἐσχάταις (the last) ἡμέραις (days). ⁴ ἰδοὺ (Behold), ὁ (the) μισθὸς (wage) τῶν (of the) ἐργατῶν (workmen) τῶν (-) ἀμησάντων (having harvested) τὰς (the) χώρας (fields) ὑμῶν (of you), ὁ (-) ἀφυστερημένος (having been kept back) ἀφ’ (by) ὑμῶν (you), κράζει (cries out), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) βοαὶ (cries) τῶν (of those) θερισάντων (having harvested), εἰς (into) τὰ (the) ὦτα (ears) Κυρίου (of the Lord) Σαβαὼθ (of Hosts) εἰσεληλύθασιν* (have entered). ⁵ Ἐτρυφήσατε (You lived in luxury) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) ἐσπαταλήσατε (lived in self-indulgence). ἐθρέψατε (You have fattened) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (the day) σφαγῆς (of slaughter).

²³ Καὶ (And) σύ (you), Καφαρναούμ (Capernaum), μὴ (not) ἕως (to) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ὑψωθήσῃ (will be exalted), ἕως (to) ᾅδου (Hades) καταβήσῃ (will be brought down)! ὅτι (For) εἰ (if) ἐν (in) Σοδόμοις (Sodom) ἐγενήθησαν (had taken place) αἱ (the) δυνάμεις (miracles) αἱ (-) γενόμεναι (having taken place) ἐν (in) σοί (you), ἔμεινεν (it would have remained) ἂν (-) μέχρι (until) τῆς (the) σήμερον (day). ²⁴ πλὴν (But) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅτι (that) γῇ (for the land) Σοδόμων (of Sodom) ἀνεκτότερον (more tolerable) ἔσται (will it be) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (day) κρίσεως (of judgment) ἢ (than) σοί (for you).”

⁶ καὶ (and) πόλεις (the cities) Σοδόμων (of Sodom) καὶ (and) Γομόρρας (Gomorrah) τεφρώσας (having reduced to ashes), καταστροφῇ (to destruction) κατέκρινεν (He condemned them), ὑπόδειγμα (an example) μελλόντων (of what is coming on) ‹ἀσεβέσιν› (the ungodly) τεθεικώς (having set);

⁷ ὡς (just as) Σόδομα (Sodom) καὶ (and) Γόμορρα (Gomorrah) καὶ (and) αἱ (the) περὶ (around) αὐτὰς (them) πόλεις (cities), τὸν (-) ὅμοιον (in like) τρόπον (manner) τούτοις (with them) ἐκπορνεύσασαι (having indulged in sexual immorality) καὶ (and) ἀπελθοῦσαι (having gone) ὀπίσω (after) σαρκὸς (flesh) ἑτέρας (strange), πρόκεινται (are set forth as) δεῖγμα (an example) πυρὸς (of fire) αἰωνίου (eternal) δίκην (the penalty) ὑπέχουσαι (undergoing).

⁸ καὶ (And) τὸ (the) πτῶμα (body) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπὶ (will be upon) τῆς (the) πλατείας (street) τῆς (of) πόλεως (city) τῆς (the) μεγάλης (great), ἥτις (which) καλεῖται (is called) πνευματικῶς (figuratively) Σόδομα (Sodom) καὶ (and) Αἴγυπτος (Egypt), ὅπου (where) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐσταυρώθη (was crucified).

²⁷ μέλλει (Is about) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (of the) ἀνθρώπου (man) ἔρχεσθαι (to come) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) αὐτοῦ (of Him), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) αὐτοῦ (of Him); καὶ (and) τότε (then) ἀποδώσει (He will give) ἑκάστῳ (to each) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) πρᾶξιν (deeds) αὐτοῦ (of him).

³ Καθημένου (As was sitting) δὲ (now) αὐτοῦ (He) ἐπὶ (upon) τοῦ (the) ὄρους (Mount) τῶν (-) Ἐλαιῶν (of Olives), προσῆλθον (came to) αὐτῷ (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private), λέγοντες (saying), “Εἰπὲ (Tell) ἡμῖν (us), πότε (when) ταῦτα (these things) ἔσται (will be)? καὶ (And) τί (what is) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) τῆς (-) σῆς (of Your) παρουσίας (coming) καὶ (and) συντελείας (of the consummation) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age)?”

²⁷ ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) ἀστραπὴ (lightning) ἐξέρχεται (comes forth) ἀπὸ (from the) ἀνατολῶν (east) καὶ (and) φαίνεται (shines) ἕως (as far as the) δυσμῶν (west), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man). ²⁸ ὅπου (For wherever) ἐὰν (if) ᾖ (may be) τὸ (the) πτῶμα (carcass), ἐκεῖ (there) συναχθήσονται (will be gathered) οἱ (the) ἀετοί (vultures). ²⁹ Εὐθέως (Immediately) δὲ (then) μετὰ (after) τὴν (the) θλῖψιν (tribulation) τῶν (the) ἡμερῶν (days) ἐκείνων (of those): ‘Ὁ (The) ἥλιος (sun) σκοτισθήσεται (will be darkened), Καὶ (and) ἡ (the) σελήνη (moon) οὐ (not) δώσει (will give) τὸ (the) φέγγος (light) αὐτῆς (of it), Καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀστέρες (stars) πεσοῦνται (will fall) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) οὐρανοῦ (sky), Καὶ (and) αἱ (the) δυνάμεις (powers) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens) σαλευθήσονται (will be shaken).’ ³⁰ Καὶ (And) τότε (then) φανήσεται (will appear) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) ‹τῷ› (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), καὶ (and) τότε (then) κόψονται (will mourn) πᾶσαι (all) αἱ (the) φυλαὶ (tribes) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) ὄψονται (they will see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐπὶ (on) τῶν (the) νεφελῶν (clouds) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (of heaven) μετὰ (with) δυνάμεως (power) καὶ (and) δόξης (glory) πολλῆς (great). ³¹ καὶ (And) ἀποστελεῖ (He will send) τοὺς (the) ἀγγέλους (angels) αὐτοῦ (of Him) μετὰ (with) σάλπιγγος (a trumpet call) μεγάλης (great), καὶ (and) ἐπισυνάξουσιν (they will gather together) τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτοὺς (elect) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) τεσσάρων (four) ἀνέμων (winds), ἀπ’ (from) ἄκρων (the ends) οὐρανῶν (of the heavens) ἕως (to) ‹τῶν› (the) ἄκρων (ends) αὐτῶν (of them).

³⁷ ὥσπερ (As were) γὰρ (for) αἱ (the) ἡμέραι (days) τοῦ (-) Νῶε (of Noah), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

³⁹ καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔγνωσαν (they knew), ἕως (until) ἦλθεν (came) ὁ (the) κατακλυσμὸς (flood) καὶ (and) ἦρεν (took away) ἅπαντας (all); οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (will be) καὶ (also) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

²⁶ Καὶ (And) τότε (then) ὄψονται (will they see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐν (in) νεφέλαις (the clouds), μετὰ (with) δυνάμεως (power) πολλῆς (great) καὶ (and) δόξης (glory).

²² ὅτι (for) ἡμέραι (the days) ἐκδικήσεως (of avenging) αὗταί (these) εἰσιν (are), τοῦ (-) πλησθῆναι (to fulfill) πάντα (all things) τὰ (-) γεγραμμένα (having been written).

²⁷ καὶ (And) τότε (then) ὄψονται (will they see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐν (in) νεφέλῃ (a cloud), μετὰ (with) δυνάμεως (power) καὶ (and) δόξης (glory) πολλῆς (great).

³⁴ Προσέχετε (Take heed) δὲ (now) ἑαυτοῖς (to yourselves), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) βαρηθῶσιν (be burdened) ὑμῶν (of you) αἱ (the) καρδίαι (hearts) ἐν (with) κραιπάλῃ (dissipation) καὶ (and) μέθῃ (drunkenness) καὶ (and) μερίμναις (cares) βιωτικαῖς (of life) — καὶ (and) ἐπιστῇ (would come) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) αἰφνίδιος (suddenly) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) ἐκείνη (that) ὡς (as) παγίς (a snare). ³⁵ ἐπεισελεύσεται (It will come) γὰρ (for) ἐπὶ (upon) πάντας (all) τοὺς (those) καθημένους (sitting) ἐπὶ (upon) πρόσωπον (the face) πάσης (of all) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth). ³⁶ ἀγρυπνεῖτε (Watch) δὲ (also) ἐν (at) παντὶ (every) καιρῷ (season), δεόμενοι (praying) ἵνα (that) κατισχύσητε (you may have strength) ἐκφυγεῖν (to escape) ταῦτα (these things) πάντα (all) τὰ (that) μέλλοντα (are about) γίνεσθαι (to come to pass) καὶ (and) σταθῆναι (to stand) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).”

⁷ ὥστε (so as for) ὑμᾶς (you) μὴ (not) ὑστερεῖσθαι (to be lacking) ἐν (in) μηδενὶ (not one) χαρίσματι (gift), ἀπεκδεχομένους (eagerly awaiting) τὴν (the) ἀποκάλυψιν (revelation) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ),

⁷ καὶ (and) ὑμῖν (to you) τοῖς (-) θλιβομένοις (being oppressed), ἄνεσιν (repose) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us) ἐν (at) τῇ (the) ἀποκαλύψει (revelation) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), μετ’ (with) ἀγγέλων (the angels) δυνάμεως (mighty) αὐτοῦ (of Him)

⁷ ἵνα (so that) τὸ (the) δοκίμιον (proven genuineness) ὑμῶν (of your) τῆς (-) πίστεως (faith), πολυτιμότερον (more precious) χρυσίου (than gold), τοῦ (-) ἀπολλυμένου (perishing), διὰ (by) πυρὸς (fire) δὲ (though) δοκιμαζομένου (being refined), εὑρεθῇ (may be discovered) εἰς (to result in) ἔπαινον (praise) καὶ (and) δόξαν (glory) καὶ (and) τιμὴν (honor) ἐν (in) ἀποκαλύψει (the revelation) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ),

¹³ Διὸ (Therefore) ἀναζωσάμενοι (having girded up) τὰς (the) ὀσφύας (loins) τῆς (of the) διανοίας (mind) ὑμῶν (of you), νήφοντες (being sober-minded), τελείως (fully) ἐλπίσατε (set your hope) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) φερομένην (being brought) ὑμῖν (to you) χάριν (grace) ἐν (in) ἀποκαλύψει (the revelation) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ),

¹³ ἀλλὰ (But) καθὸ (as) κοινωνεῖτε (you have shared) τοῖς (in the) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) παθήμασιν (sufferings), χαίρετε (rejoice), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀποκαλύψει (revelation) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), χαρῆτε (you may rejoice) ἀγαλλιώμενοι (exulting).

⁷ Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἔρχεται (He is coming) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) νεφελῶν (clouds), καὶ (and) ὄψεται (will see) αὐτὸν (Him) πᾶς (every) ὀφθαλμὸς (eye), καὶ (and) οἵτινες (those who) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐξεκέντησαν (pierced), καὶ (and) κόψονται (will wail) ἐπ’ (because of) αὐτὸν (Him) πᾶσαι (all) αἱ (the) φυλαὶ (tribes) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth). ναί (Yes)! ἀμήν (Amen)!

²⁵ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), μὴ (not) μεριμνᾶτε (be anxious about) τῇ (the) ψυχῇ (life) ὑμῶν (of you), τί (what) φάγητε (you should eat) ἢ (or) τί (what) πίητε (you should drink); μηδὲ (nor) τῷ (the) σώματι (body) ὑμῶν (of you), τί (what) ἐνδύσησθε (you should put on). οὐχὶ (Not) ἡ (the) ψυχὴ (life) πλεῖόν (more) ἐστιν (is) τῆς (than the) τροφῆς (food), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) τοῦ (than) ἐνδύματος (clothing)?

²⁶ τί (What) γὰρ (for) ὠφεληθήσεται (will it profit) ἄνθρωπος (a man), ἐὰν (if) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ὅλον (whole) κερδήσῃ (he gains), τὴν (-) δὲ (but) ψυχὴν (the soul) αὐτοῦ (of him) ζημιωθῇ (loses)? ἢ (Or) τί (what) δώσει (will give) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἀντάλλαγμα (as an exchange for) τῆς (the) ψυχῆς (soul) αὐτοῦ (of him)?

¹⁷ ὁ (the one) ἐπὶ (on) τοῦ (the) δώματος (housetop), μὴ (not) καταβάτω (let him come down) ἆραι (to take) τὰ (anything) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) οἰκίας (house) αὐτοῦ (of him); ¹⁸ καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀγρῷ (field), μὴ (neither) ἐπιστρεψάτω (let him return) ὀπίσω (back) ἆραι (to take) τὸ (the) ἱμάτιον (cloak) αὐτοῦ (of him). ¹⁹ Οὐαὶ (Woe) δὲ (then) ταῖς (to those) ἐν (in) γαστρὶ (womb) ἐχούσαις (having), καὶ (and) ταῖς (to the ones) θηλαζούσαις (nursing infants) ἐν (in) ἐκείναις (those) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days). ²⁰ προσεύχεσθε (Pray) δὲ (however) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) γένηται (might be) ἡ (the) φυγὴ (flight) ὑμῶν (of you) χειμῶνος (in winter), μηδὲ (nor) σαββάτῳ (on a Sabbath). ²¹ ἔσται (There will be) γὰρ (for) τότε (then) θλῖψις (tribulation) μεγάλη (great), οἵα (such as) οὐ (not) γέγονεν (has been) ἀπ’ (from the) ἀρχῆς (beginning) κόσμου (of the world) ἕως (until) τοῦ (-) νῦν (now), οὐδ’ (no) οὐ (never) μὴ (not) γένηται (shall be).

¹⁴ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἴδητε (you see) τὸ (the) βδέλυγμα (abomination) τῆς (of the) ἐρημώσεως (desolation) ἑστηκότα (standing) ὅπου (where) οὐ (not) δεῖ (it should)— ὁ (the one) ἀναγινώσκων (reading), νοείτω (let him understand)— τότε (then) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea), φευγέτωσαν (let them flee) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ὄρη (mountains), ¹⁵ ὁ (the one) [δὲ] (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τοῦ (the) δώματος (housetop), μὴ (not) καταβάτω (let him come down), μηδὲ (nor) εἰσελθάτω (go in) τι (anything) ἆραι (to take) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) οἰκίας (house) αὐτοῦ (of him); ¹⁶ καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) εἰς (in) τὸν (the) ἀγρὸν (field), μὴ (not) ἐπιστρεψάτω (let him return) εἰς (to) τὰ (the things) ὀπίσω (behind), ἆραι (to take) τὸ (the) ἱμάτιον (clothing) αὐτοῦ (of him).

²¹ τότε (Then) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea), φευγέτωσαν (let them flee) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ὄρη (mountains); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (midst) αὐτῆς (of her), ἐκχωρείτωσαν (let them depart out); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) χώραις (countries), μὴ (not) εἰσερχέσθωσαν (let them enter) εἰς (into) αὐτήν (her);

⁷ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἅτινα (whatever things) ἦν (were) μοι (to me) κέρδη (gain), ταῦτα (these) ἥγημαι (I have esteemed), διὰ (because of) τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ), ζημίαν (loss). ⁸ ἀλλὰ (But) μὲν‿ (-), οὖν‿ (therefore) γε (indeed), καὶ (also) ἡγοῦμαι (I count) πάντα (all things) ζημίαν (loss) εἶναι (to be) διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) ὑπερέχον (excelling) τῆς (-) γνώσεως (knowledge) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) μου (of me), δι’ (because of) ὃν (whom) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) ἐζημιώθην (I have lost), καὶ (and) ἡγοῦμαι (esteem them) σκύβαλα (rubbish), ἵνα (that) Χριστὸν (Christ) κερδήσω (I may gain)

⁶ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now), τύποι (types) ἡμῶν (to us) ἐγενήθησαν (have become), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) εἶναι (to be) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐπιθυμητὰς (desirers) κακῶν (of evil things), καθὼς (as) κἀκεῖνοι (they also) ἐπεθύμησαν (desired). ⁷ μηδὲ (Neither) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters) γίνεσθε (are you to be), καθώς (as) τινες (some) αὐτῶν (of them); ὥσπερ (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ἐκάθισεν (Sat down) ὁ (the) λαὸς (people) φαγεῖν (to eat) καὶ (and) πεῖν (to drink), καὶ (and) ἀνέστησαν (rose up) παίζειν (to play).” ⁸ μηδὲ (Neither) πορνεύωμεν (should we commit sexual immorality), καθώς (as) τινες (some) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπόρνευσαν (committed sexual immorality), καὶ (and) ἔπεσαν (fell) μιᾷ (in one) ἡμέρᾳ (day) εἰκοσι (twenty) τρεῖς (three) χιλιάδες (thousand). ⁹ μηδὲ (Neither) ἐκπειράζωμεν (should we test) τὸν (the) Χριστόν* (Christ), καθώς (as) τινες (some) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπείρασαν (tested), καὶ (and) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (-) ὄφεων (serpents) ἀπώλλυντο (were destroyed). ¹⁰ μηδὲ (Neither) γογγύζετε (are you to grumble), καθάπερ (as) τινὲς (some) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐγόγγυσαν (grumbled), καὶ (and) ἀπώλοντο (perished) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) ὀλοθρευτοῦ (Destroyer). ¹¹ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) τυπικῶς (as types) συνέβαινεν (happened) ἐκείνοις (to them), ἐγράφη (were written) δὲ (then) πρὸς (for) νουθεσίαν (admonition) ἡμῶν (of us), εἰς (to) οὓς (whom) τὰ (the) τέλη (ends) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages) κατήντηκεν (are arrived). ¹² Ὥστε (Therefore) ὁ (the one) δοκῶν (thinking) ἑστάναι (to stand), βλεπέτω (let him take heed), μὴ (lest) πέσῃ (he fall).

³⁸ ὁ (The one) δὲ (however) δίκαιός (righteous) μου (of Mine) ἐκ (by) πίστεως (faith) ζήσεται (will live); καὶ (and) ἐὰν (if) ὑποστείληται (he might shrink back), οὐκ (not) εὐδοκεῖ (takes pleasure) ἡ (the) ψυχή (soul) μου (of Me) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him).” ³⁹ Ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) ἐσμὲν (are) ὑποστολῆς (of those drawing back) εἰς (to) ἀπώλειαν (destruction), ἀλλὰ (but) πίστεως (of faith) εἰς (to) περιποίησιν (the preserving) ψυχῆς (of the soul).

¹⁸ ὑπέρογκα (Arrogant) γὰρ (for) ματαιότητος (of vanity) φθεγγόμενοι (speaking words), δελεάζουσιν (they entice) ἐν (with) ἐπιθυμίαις (the passions) σαρκὸς (of the flesh) ἀσελγείαις (to sensuality) τοὺς (those) ὀλίγως (barely) ἀποφεύγοντας (escaping) τοὺς (from those) ἐν (in) πλάνῃ (error) ἀναστρεφομένους (living), ¹⁹ ἐλευθερίαν (freedom) αὐτοῖς (them) ἐπαγγελλόμενοι (promising), αὐτοὶ (themselves) δοῦλοι (slaves) ὑπάρχοντες (being) τῆς (-) φθορᾶς (of corruption). ᾧ (By what) γάρ (for) τις (anyone) ἥττηται (has been subdued), τούτῳ (by that) ‹καὶ› (also) δεδούλωται (he is enslaved). ²⁰ Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἀποφυγόντες (having escaped) τὰ (the) μιάσματα (pollutions) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐν (through) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τούτοις (in these) δὲ (now) πάλιν (again) ἐμπλακέντες (having been entangled) ἡττῶνται (they are subdued), γέγονεν (has become) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) ἔσχατα (last state) χείρονα (worse) τῶν (than the) πρώτων (first). ²¹ κρεῖττον (Better) γὰρ (for) ἦν (it would have been) αὐτοῖς (for them) μὴ (not) ἐπεγνωκέναι (to have known) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (way) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness), ἢ (than) ἐπιγνοῦσιν (having known it), ὑποστρέψαι (to have turned) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) παραδοθείσης (having been delivered) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἁγίας (holy) ἐντολῆς (commandment). ²² συμβέβηκεν (Has happened) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸ (the thing) τῆς (of the) ἀληθοῦς (true) παροιμίας (proverb): “Κύων (A dog) ἐπιστρέψας (having returned) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (its) ἴδιον (own) ἐξέραμα (vomit),” καί (and), “Ὗς (A sow) λουσαμένη (having washed), εἰς (to her) κυλισμὸν (rolling place) βορβόρου (in the mire).”

³⁹ ὁ (The one) εὑρὼν (having found) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἀπολέσει (will lose) αὐτήν (it); καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) ἀπολέσας (having lost) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἕνεκεν (on account of) ἐμοῦ (Me) εὑρήσει (will find) αὐτήν (it).

²⁵ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἐὰν (if) θέλῃ (might desire) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) σῶσαι (to save), ἀπολέσει (will lose) αὐτήν (it); ὃς (whoever) δ’ (however) ἂν (-) ἀπολέσῃ (might lose) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἕνεκεν (on account of) ἐμοῦ (Me), εὑρήσει (will find) αὐτήν (it).

³⁵ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἐὰν (if) θέλῃ (might desire) τὴν (-) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (his) σῶσαι (to save), ἀπολέσει (will lose) αὐτήν (it); ὃς (whoever) δ’ (now) ἂν (-) ἀπολέσει (will lose) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἕνεκεν (on account of) ἐμοῦ (Me) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel), σώσει (he will save) αὐτήν (it). ³⁶ Τί (What) γὰρ (for) ὠφελεῖ (does it profit) ἄνθρωπον (a man) κερδῆσαι (to gain) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ὅλον (whole) καὶ (and) ζημιωθῆναι (to lose) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (soul) αὐτοῦ (of him)? ³⁷ τί (What) γὰρ (for) δοῖ (shall give) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἀντάλλαγμα (as an exchange) τῆς (for the) ψυχῆς (soul) αὐτοῦ (of him)?

²⁴ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἂν* (-) θέλῃ (might desire) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) σῶσαι (to save), ἀπολέσει (will lose) αὐτήν (it); ὃς (whoever) δ’ (however) ἂν (-) ἀπολέσῃ (might lose) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἕνεκεν (on account of) ἐμοῦ (me), οὗτος (he) σώσει (will save) αὐτήν (it). ²⁵ Τί (What) γὰρ (for) ὠφελεῖται (is profited) ἄνθρωπος (a man), κερδήσας (having gained) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ὅλον (whole), ἑαυτὸν (himself) δὲ (now) ἀπολέσας (having destroyed), ἢ (or) ζημιωθείς (having suffered the loss of)?

²⁵ ὁ (The one) φιλῶν (loving) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἀπολλύει (loses) αὐτήν (it), καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) μισῶν (hating) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world) τούτῳ (this), εἰς (to) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) φυλάξει (will keep) αὐτήν (it).

¹⁰ Μηδὲν* (Not) φοβοῦ (fear) ἃ (what) μέλλεις (you are about) πάσχειν (to suffer). ἰδοὺ (Behold), μέλλει (is about) βάλλειν (to cast) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil) ἐξ (some of) ὑμῶν (you) εἰς (into) φυλακὴν (prison), ἵνα (so that) πειρασθῆτε (you might be tested); καὶ (and) ἕξετε (you shall have) θλῖψιν (tribulation) ἡμερῶν (days) δέκα (ten). γίνου (Be) πιστὸς (faithful) ἄχρι (unto) θανάτου (death), καὶ (and) δώσω (I will give) σοι (to you) τὸν (the) στέφανον (crown) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life).

²⁵ ἰδοὺ (Behold), προείρηκα (I have foretold it) ὑμῖν (to you).

⁴⁰ τότε (Then) ἔσονται (will be) δύο (two) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀγρῷ (field): εἷς (one) παραλαμβάνεται (is taken), καὶ (and) εἷς (one) ἀφίεται (is left). ⁴¹ δύο (Two women) ἀλήθουσαι (will be grinding) ἐν (at) τῷ (the) μύλῳ (mill): μία (one) παραλαμβάνεται (is taken), καὶ (and) μία (one) ἀφίεται (is left).

²³ ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) βλέπετε (take heed); προείρηκα (I have foretold) ὑμῖν (to you) πάντα (all things).

²⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πέτρος (Peter) ἔφη (was saying) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Εἰ (If) καὶ (even) πάντες (all) σκανδαλισθήσονται (will fall away), ἀλλ’ (yet) οὐκ (not) ἐγώ (I).”

³ οὐχί (No), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you); ἀλλ’ (but) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μετανοῆτε (you repent), πάντες (all) ὁμοίως (likewise) ἀπολεῖσθε (you will perish).

⁵ οὐχί (No), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you); ἀλλ’ (but) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μετανοῆτε* (you repent), πάντες (all) ὡσαύτως (likewise) ἀπολεῖσθε (you will perish).”

²⁴ “Ἀγωνίζεσθε (Strive) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter in) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) στενῆς (narrow) θύρας (door); ὅτι (for) πολλοί (many), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ζητήσουσιν (will seek) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter in), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἰσχύσουσιν (will be able).

⁴ Ἀλλὰ (But) τί (what was) λέγει (spoken) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (the) χρηματισμός (divine answer)? “Κατέλιπον (I have left) ἐμαυτῷ (to Myself) ἑπτακισχιλίους (seven thousand) ἄνδρας (men) οἵτινες (who) οὐκ (not) ἔκαμψαν (have bowed) γόνυ (the knee) τῇ (-) Βάαλ (to Baal).” ⁵ Οὕτως (Thus) οὖν (then) καὶ (also), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) νῦν (present) καιρῷ (time), λεῖμμα* (a remnant) κατ’ (according to) ἐκλογὴν (the election) χάριτος (of grace) γέγονεν (there has been). ⁶ εἰ (If) δὲ (now) χάριτι (by grace), οὐκέτι (no longer) ἐξ (from) ἔργων (works); ἐπεὶ (otherwise) ἡ (-) χάρις (grace) οὐκέτι (no longer) γίνεται (would be) χάρις (grace). ⁷ Τί (What) οὖν (then)? ὃ (What) ἐπιζητεῖ (is seeking) Ἰσραήλ (Israel), τοῦτο (this) οὐκ (not) ἐπέτυχεν (it has obtained); ἡ (-) δὲ (but) ἐκλογὴ (the elect) ἐπέτυχεν (obtained it). οἱ (The) δὲ (now) λοιποὶ (rest) ἐπωρώθησαν (were hardened),

¹⁶ ὅτι (because) αὐτὸς (Himself) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἐν (with) κελεύσματι (a loud command), ἐν (with) φωνῇ (the voice) ἀρχαγγέλου (of an archangel), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) σάλπιγγι (the trumpet) Θεοῦ (of God), καταβήσεται (will descend) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἀναστήσονται (will rise) πρῶτον (first). ¹⁷ ἔπειτα (Then) ἡμεῖς (we) οἱ (the) ζῶντες (living) οἱ (-) περιλειπόμενοι (remaining), ἅμα (together) σὺν (with) αὐτοῖς (them), ἁρπαγησόμεθα (will be caught away) ἐν (in) νεφέλαις (the clouds) εἰς (for) ἀπάντησιν (the meeting) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) εἰς (in) ἀέρα (the air); καὶ (and) οὕτως (so) πάντοτε (always) σὺν (with) Κυρίῳ (the Lord) ἐσόμεθα (we will be).

⁹ οἶδεν (then knows) Κύριος (the Lord) εὐσεβεῖς (the devout) ἐκ (out of) πειρασμοῦ (temptation) ῥύεσθαι (to deliver); ἀδίκους (the unrighteous) δὲ (then) εἰς (unto) ἡμέραν (the day) κρίσεως (of judgment) κολαζομένους (being punished) τηρεῖν (to keep);

⁴¹ δύο (Two women) ἀλήθουσαι (will be grinding) ἐν (at) τῷ (the) μύλῳ (mill): μία (one) παραλαμβάνεται (is taken), καὶ (and) μία (one) ἀφίεται (is left).

²⁸ ὅπου (For wherever) ἐὰν (if) ᾖ (may be) τὸ (the) πτῶμα (carcass), ἐκεῖ (there) συναχθήσονται (will be gathered) οἱ (the) ἀετοί (vultures).

¹⁶ κωλυόντων (hindering) ἡμᾶς (us) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) λαλῆσαι (to speak), ἵνα (that) σωθῶσιν (they might be saved), εἰς (so as) τὸ (-) ἀναπληρῶσαι (to fill up) αὐτῶν (their) τὰς (-) ἁμαρτίας (sins) πάντοτε (always). ἔφθασεν (Has come) δὲ (now) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτοὺς (them) ἡ (the) ὀργὴ (wrath) εἰς (to the) τέλος (utmost).

¹⁷ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἕνα (one) ἄγγελον (angel) ἑστῶτα (standing) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἡλίῳ (sun), καὶ (and) ἔκραξεν (he cried out) ἐν (in) φωνῇ (a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), λέγων (saying) πᾶσιν (to all) τοῖς (the) ὀρνέοις (birds) τοῖς (-) πετομένοις (flying) ἐν (in) μεσουρανήματι (mid-heaven), “Δεῦτε (Come), συνάχθητε (gather yourselves) εἰς (unto) τὸ (the) δεῖπνον (supper) τὸ (-) μέγα (great) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ¹⁸ ἵνα (so that) φάγητε (you may eat) σάρκας (the flesh) βασιλέων (of kings), καὶ (and) σάρκας (the flesh) χιλιάρχων (of commanders), καὶ (and) σάρκας (the flesh) ἰσχυρῶν (of mighty men), καὶ (and) σάρκας (the flesh) ἵππων (of horses) καὶ (and) τῶν (of those) καθημένων (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) σάρκας (the flesh) πάντων (of all), ἐλευθέρων (free) τε (both) καὶ (and) δούλων (slaves), καὶ (and) μικρῶν (small) καὶ (and) μεγάλων (great).”
