⁵³ They efface my life in a dungeon, which they block up over me with a stone;"

¹⁶ When Jeremiah has entered into the house of the dungeon, and unto the cells, then Jeremiah dwells there many days,

²⁰ And now, hearken, I pray you, my lord, O king, let my supplication fall, I pray you, before you, and cause me not to return [to] the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I die not there.'"

⁶ And they take Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah son of the king, that [is] in the court of the prison, and they send down Jeremiah with cords; and in the pit there is no water, but mire, and Jeremiah sinks in the mire."

⁹ `My lord, O king, these men have done evil [in] all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit, and he dies in his place because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.'"

¹⁷ And hither is brought a single stone and placed on the mouth of the vault. The king seals it with his signet ring and with the signet rings of his grandees, that there be no altering of his will in regard to Daniel."

⁶⁰ and places it in his new tomb which he quarries in the rock. And, rolling a large stone on to the door of the tomb, he came away."

⁶⁶ Now they, being gone, secure the sepulcher, sealing the stone, with the detail."
