¹ To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David. ¶ O LORD, thou hast searched me and known me. ² Thou knowest my sitting down and my rising up, thou dost understand my thoughts from afar. ³ Thou hast girded my walk and my rest, and hast prepared all my ways. ⁴ For the word is not even upon my tongue, and, behold, O LORD, thou dost know it altogether. ⁵ Thou hast formed my face and my insides and laid thine hand upon me. ⁶ Thy knowledge is wonderful beyond my ability to comprehend; it is high, I cannot understand it. ⁷ ¶ Where shall I go from thy spirit? or where shall I flee from thy presence? ⁸ If I ascend to the heavens, thou art there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there. ⁹ If I take the wings of the dawn and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, ¹⁰ even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. ¹¹ If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall shine because of me. ¹² Even the darkness does not hide from thee; but the night shines as the day; the darkness is as the light. ¹³ For thou hast possessed my kidneys: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. ¹⁴ I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are thy works, and that, my soul knows right well. ¹⁵ My body was not hid from thee, even though I was made in secret and brought together in the lowest parts of the earth. ¹⁶ Thine eyes did see my substance yet being imperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which were then formed, without lacking one of them. ¹⁷ ¶ Therefore, how precious are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! ¹⁸ If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with thee. ¹⁹ Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God; depart from me therefore, ye bloodthirsty men. ²⁰ For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. ²¹ Do I not hate all those, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? ²² I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them mine enemies. ²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts ²⁴ and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way eternal.

³⁹ then thou shalt hear in the heavens, in the habitation of thy dwelling place, and forgive and do and give to each one according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the sons of men),

⁹ And thou, Solomon, my son, know thou the God of thy father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing soul, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

⁴ ¶ The LORD is in the temple of his holiness, the LORD’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try the children of men. ⁵ The LORD tries the righteous, but the wicked and he that loves violence his soul hates.

³ Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast refined me and hast found no iniquity; that which I thought did not pass through my mouth.

²¹ shall not God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts

³ But thou, O LORD, dost know me; thou hast seen me and tried my heart toward thee; pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and mark them for the day of slaughter.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who shall know it? ¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart; I try the kidneys, even to give each man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings.

¹⁷ He said unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.

¹³ Neither is there any created thing that is not manifested in his presence, but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him of whom we speak.

¹⁸ ¶ And unto the angel of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} in Thyatira write; These things, saith the Son of God, who has his eyes like unto a flame of fire and his feet like unto brilliant metal:

²³ And I will kill her children with death, and all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} shall know that I AM he that searches the kidneys and hearts, and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.

¹³ And she called the name of the LORD that spoke unto her, Thou God that is seen: for she said, Have I not also here seen the back of him that sees me?

¹² Then one of his slaves said, None, my lord, O king, but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

²⁷ But I know thy abode and thy going out and thy coming in and thy rage against me.

⁸ ¶ Thou tellest my wanderings; put my tears into thy bottle; are they not in thy book?

¹¹ The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

³ ¶ The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding those who are evil and those who are good.

²⁸ I have understood thy state, thy going out and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.

¹⁰ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: It shall also come to pass in that day, that words shall rise up in thy heart, and thou shalt conceive an evil thought: ¹¹ and thou shalt say, I will go up against the land of unwalled villages; I will go against those that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

¹⁷ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Art thou not he of whom I have spoken in days past by my slaves the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those times that I would have to bring thee upon them?

¹⁰ For who has despised the day of small beginnings? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel. Those seven are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

⁴ And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Why think ye evil in your hearts?

⁴⁷ But Jesus, seeing the thoughts of their heart, took a child and set him by him,

²⁴ But Jesus did not trust himself unto them because he knew all men ²⁵ and needed not that any man should give testimony, for he knew what was in man.

⁵ Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each one have praise of God.

¹⁰ ¶ And Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. ¹¹ And he found a certain place and slept there all night because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place and put them for his pillows and lay down in that place to sleep. ¹² And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. ¹³ And, behold, the LORD stood above it and said, I AM the God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac; the land upon which thou dost lie, to thee will I give it and to thy seed; ¹⁴ and thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt multiply to the west and to the east and to the Aquilon and to the Negev; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. ¹⁵ And, behold, I am with thee and will keep thee in all places where thou goest and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. ¹⁶ ¶ And Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place, and I knew it not. ¹⁷ And he was afraid and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

¹⁴ And he put garrisons in Edom; he put garrisons throughout all Edom, and all those of Edom became David’s slaves. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.

² And it came to pass one evening, that David arose from off his bed and walked upon the roof of the king’s house, and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself, and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. ³ And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah, the Hittite? ⁴ And David sent messengers and took her, and she came in unto him, and he lay with her. Then she purified herself from her uncleanness, and she returned unto her house. ⁵ And the woman conceived and sent and told David and said, I am with child.

²⁷ And when the mourning was past, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and gave birth to a son unto him. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

⁹ Why, therefore, hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast killed Uriah, the Hittite, with the sword and hast taken his wife to be thy wife and hast slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house because thou hast despised me and hast taken the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be thy wife. ¹¹ Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For thou hast done it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.

²⁶ Why dost thou write bitter things against me and make me carry the iniquities of my youth. ²⁷ Thou dost put my feet also in the stocks and look narrowly unto all my paths; thou dost set a print upon the heels of my feet.

¹⁶ ¶ For now thou dost number my steps; thou dost not open up my sin. ¹⁷ My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou dost sew up my iniquity.

⁴ Does he not see my ways and count all my steps?

³ He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; he that keeps thee will not slumber. ⁴ Behold, he that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. ⁵ The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. ⁶ The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. ⁷ The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil; he shall preserve thy soul. ⁸ The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

¹⁸ If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with thee.

²⁰ And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a woman belonging to someone else, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? ²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he weighs all his goings.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work to judgment with every secret thing, whether it is good or whether it is evil.

¹⁵ Woe unto those that hide themselves from the LORD, covering the counsel; and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? and who knows us?

²⁴ Can any hide himself in hiding places that I shall not see him? said the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? said the LORD.

¹² whose fan is in his hand; and he will thoroughly purge his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with fire that shall never be quenched.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon, for it was he that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

² And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,

²¹ When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

³ But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to defraud of the price of the land? ⁴ Retaining it, was it not thy own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thy heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

² How long wilt thou speak such things and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

² Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

³ Who is he that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore, I have denounced that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

⁶ Therefore, I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes. ⁷ ¶ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz, the Temanite, My wrath has been kindled against thee, and against thy two friends; for ye have not spoken by me in uprightness, as my slave Job has. ⁸ Therefore, take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my slave Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my slave Job shall pray for you; for only because I will accept him, I shall not deal with you according to your folly, in that ye have not spoken by me in uprightness, like my slave Job.

¹⁴ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

¹⁹ Thou didst give thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frames deceit. ²⁰ Thou didst sit and speak against thy brother; thou didst slander thine own mother’s son. ²¹ These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou didst think that I was altogether such a one as thyself, but I will reprove thee and set them in order before thine eyes.

²³ because they have committed villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken a word falsely in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know and am a witness, saith the LORD.

¹² And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps and make a visitation upon the men that are settled on their lees, that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

¹³ ¶ Your words have prevailed against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken against thee? ¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God, and what profit is it that we have kept his law and that we walk mournfully before the LORD of the hosts? ¹⁵ We say, therefore, now, that blessed are the proud and even that those that work wickedness are prospered; those that tempted God have escaped. ¹⁶ Then those that feared the LORD spoke one to another, and the LORD hearkened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for those that feared the LORD and for those that think in his name.

³⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things, and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. ³⁶ But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

¹² For the word of God is alive and efficient and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ¹³ Neither is there any created thing that is not manifested in his presence, but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him of whom we speak.

²⁶ If anyone among you thinks to be religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, his religion is vain.

² For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint. ³ Behold, we put bits (or restraint) in the horses’ mouths to persuade them, and we govern their whole body. ⁴ Behold also the ships, which though they are so great are driven of fierce winds, yet they are governed with a very small rudder, wherever the governor desires. ⁵ In the same manner, the tongue is a very small member and boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every nature of beasts and of birds and of serpents and of beings in the sea may be tamed and is tamed by mankind, ⁸ but no man can tame the tongue, which is an evil that cannot be restrained and is full of deadly poison. ⁹ With it we bless God, even the Father; and with it we curse men, who are made in the image of God. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

¹¹ But he did not lay his hand upon the princes of the sons of Israel, and they saw God and ate and drank.

²⁷ The habitation of God is eternal, and underneath the everlasting arms; he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee and shall say, Destroy them.

³³ Neither is there any arbiter between us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

⁸ ¶ Behold, I shall go to the east and not find him; and to the west, but I cannot perceive him; ⁹ if he is working to the north, I shall not see him; to the south, he hides himself, that I shall not see him.

⁷ Zain The angel of the LORD encamps round about those that fear him and delivers them.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I AM the first and the last,

⁷ ¶ Canst thou by searching find out God? Canst thou come unto the perfection of the Almighty? ⁸ It is higher than the heavens; what canst thou do? It is deeper than Sheol; how canst thou know it? ⁹ The measure of it is longer than the earth and broader than the sea.

¹⁴ Behold, these are parts of his ways; but how little a portion have we heard of him? For the thunder of his power, who shall understand?

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm of David. ¶ How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

⁵ Thou hast increased, O LORD my God, thy wonderful works which thou hast done and thy thoughts regarding us; they are beyond our ability to express, declare, or speak; they cannot be told.

² Surely I am more carnal than any man and have not the understanding of a man. ³ I neither learned wisdom nor have the knowledge of the holy. ⁴ Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? who has gathered the wind in his fists? who has bound the waters in a garment? who has established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?

³³ ¶ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments and his ways past finding out!

²³ Am I a God of the near only, said the LORD, and not a God of the far? ²⁴ Can any hide himself in hiding places that I shall not see him? said the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? said the LORD.

³ But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD and went down to Joppa, and he found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare thereof and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish fleeing from the presence of the LORD.

¹⁰ Then the men were exceedingly afraid and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD because he had told them.

⁹ Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried thy husband are at the door and shall carry thee out.

⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and hell has no covering.

²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps. ²² There is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

¹¹ ¶ Sheol and hell are before the LORD; how much more then the hearts of men?

¹² Son of man, raise up lamentations upon the king of Tyre and say unto him, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Thou dost seal up the sum of perfection, full of wisdom, and completed in beauty. ¹³ Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering: the sardius, topaz, diamond, turquoise, onyx, and beryl, the sapphire, ruby, and emerald, and gold; the works of thy tambourines and of thy pipes were prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. ¹⁴ Thou, great cherubim, wast covered, and I placed thee; thou wast in the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked among stones of fire. ¹⁵ Thou wast perfect in all thy ways from the day that thou wast created, until iniquity was found in thee. ¹⁶ Because of the multitude of thy trafficking thou wast filled with violence, and thou hast sinned; and I cast thee out of the mountain of God, and I cast thee unto evil from among the stones of fire, O cherubim that wast covered. ¹⁷ Thine heart lifted thee up because of thy beauty; thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness; I will cast thee to the earth; I will expose thee before the kings, that they may behold thee.

² Though they dig unto Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down; ³ and though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out of there; and though they hide from my sight in the bottom of the sea, from there will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them: ⁴ and though they go into captivity before their enemies, from there I will command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set my eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.

⁴ Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle and though thou set thy nest among the stars, from there I will bring thee down, said the LORD.

² and said, I cried by reason of my tribulation unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and thou didst hear my voice.

¹⁰ And he rode upon a cherub and flew: yea, he flew upon the wings of the wind.

⁶ His going forth is from the end of the heavens, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

¹⁶ The day is thine, the night also is thine; thou hast prepared the light and the sun. ¹⁷ Thou hast set all the borders of the earth; thou hast made summer and winter.

¹⁴ These shall lift up their voice; they shall sing joyfully in the majesty of the LORD; they shall lift up their voice from the sea. ¹⁵ Therefore glorify ye the LORD in the valleys; let the LORD God of Israel be called upon by name in the isles of the sea. ¹⁶ ¶ From the uttermost part of the earth we have heard psalms, Glory to the righteous one. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! The treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

² But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness be born, and in his wings he shall bring saving health; and ye shall go forth and jump like calves of the herd.

³ He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

⁸ My soul has followed hard after thee; thy right hand has upheld me.

²³ Nevertheless I was continually with thee; thou hast apprehended me by my right hand.

⁹ Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; I flee unto thee. ¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Let thy good Spirit lead me into the land of uprightness.

¹³ For I am the LORD thy God that holds thy right hand saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

²² He uncovers the depths of the darkness and brings out to light the shadow of death.

¹² Is not God in the height of the heavens? Behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And thou shalt say, What does God know? How can he judge through the darkness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are his hiding place, and he does not see; and he walks in the circuit of heaven.

¹¹ He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; he hides his face; he will never see it. ¹² ¶ Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand; forget not the humble. ¹³ In what does the wicked irritate God? He has said in his heart, Thou wilt not require accountability.

⁷ Yet they say, JAH shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

²⁰ And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it lit up the night unto Israel; and all that night the one side never came near the other.

²¹ Then the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

²² There is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

²² He reveals that which is deep and hidden; he knows what is in darkness, and the light dwells with him.

⁹ Remember now that thou hast formed me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again? ¹⁰ Hast thou not poured me out as milk and curdled me like cheese? ¹¹ Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh and hast hedged me with bones and sinews. ¹² Thou hast granted me life and mercy, and thy visitation has kept my spirit.

¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the belly also make him? And did not the same one fashion us in the womb?

⁹ But thou art he that took me out of the womb; thou hast made me wait upon thee since I was upon my mother’s breasts. ¹⁰ I was cast upon thee from the womb; thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

⁶ By thee have I been sustained from the womb; thou art he that took me out of my mother’s bowels; my praise has been continually of thee.

⁷³ ¶ JOD. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, and I shall learn thy commandments.

² Thus saith the LORD that made thee and formed thee from the womb, who will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my slave, and thou, Jesurun, {Heb. the upright one}, whom I have chosen.

³ Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:

⁵ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the Gentiles.

²⁶ ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over the beasts and over all the earth and over every serpent that moves upon the earth. ²⁷ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

⁹ who does great things that no one can understand, and marvels that have no explanation;

⁴ For thou, O LORD, hast made me glad with thy work; I will delight in the works of thy hands. ⁵ O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

²⁴ O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom thou hast made them all; the earth is full of thy riches.

² Gimel The works of the LORD are great, Daleth sought out by all those that have pleasure therein.

³ And they sing the song of Moses, the slave of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

⁵ and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sits upon his throne even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill and all the firstborn of beasts.

⁸ ¶ Thine hands have formed me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me. ⁹ Remember now that thou hast formed me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again? ¹⁰ Hast thou not poured me out as milk and curdled me like cheese? ¹¹ Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh and hast hedged me with bones and sinews.

⁹ But those that sought my soul, to destroy it, descended into the lower parts of the earth.

¹³ For thou hast possessed my kidneys: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

⁵ As thou dost not know what is the way of the spirit nor how the bones grow in the womb of her that is with child, even so thou dost not know the works of God who makes all.

⁹ (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

¹⁶ Then those that feared the LORD spoke one to another, and the LORD hearkened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for those that feared the LORD and for those that think in his name.

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened; which is the book of life; and the dead were judged by those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

¹⁹ ¶ Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for those that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for those that wait in thee before the sons of men!

⁷ How excellent is thy mercy, O God! therefore the sons of Adam cover themselves in the shadow of thy wings.

⁵ O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

³¹ I am content in the circumference of his earth, and my contentment is with the sons of men.

⁸ For my thoughts are not as your thoughts, neither are your ways as my ways, saith the LORD. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts more than your thoughts.

¹¹ For I know the thoughts that I think concerning you, said the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you the end that you wait for.

⁹ and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the ages has been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} the manifold wisdom of God,

⁵ I laid me down and slept; I awaked, for the LORD sustained me.

⁸ ¶ I have set the LORD always before me: because when he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. ⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices: my flesh also shall rest secure. ¹⁰ For thou wilt not leave my soul in Sheol; neither wilt thou suffer thy Merciful One to see corruption. ¹¹ Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; in thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness.

¹² For innumerable evils have compassed me about; my iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to see; they are more than the hairs of my head; therefore my heart fails me.

⁶ When I remember thee upon my bed and meditate on thee in the night watches. ⁷ ¶ Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

³ Thou hast girded my walk and my rest, and hast prepared all my ways.

¹⁹ Thy dead shall live, and together with my body they shall arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the covering of light, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall be awakened, some for eternal life, and some for shame and everlasting confusion.

¹⁰ who died for us, that whether we watch or sleep, we should live together with him.

⁶ Thou shalt destroy those that speak lies: the LORD will abominate the bloody and deceitful man.

⁸ ¶ Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.

¹⁷ The wicked shall be put into Sheol, all the Gentiles that forget God.

²³ But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of the grave; bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in thee.

⁷ ¶ But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.

²³ And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.

¹¹⁵ ¶ Depart from me, ye evildoers; for I will keep the commandments of my God.

⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the spirit of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

²³ And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

⁴¹ Then he shall also say unto those who shall be on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels;

¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone that takes his name in vain.

¹⁴ Therefore, they say unto God, Depart from us; for we do not desire the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have if we pray unto him?

¹ ¶ Why do the Gentiles rage, and the peoples imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, ³ let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from us.

⁸ They are lawless and speak wickedly of doing violence; they speak loftily. ⁹ They set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue walks through the earth.

¹⁸ ¶ Remember this, that the enemy has spoken against the LORD and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.

²² Arise, O God, plead thine own cause; remember how the foolish man reproaches thee daily. ²³ Forget not the voices of thine enemies; the tumult of those that rise up against thee increases continually.

²³ Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

²⁸ I have understood thy state, thy going out and thy coming in, and thy rage against me. ²⁹ Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou didst come.

¹⁵ ¶ to execute judgment upon all and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have unfaithfully committed and of all the hard words which the unfaithful sinners have spoken against him.

⁶ And it opened its mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name and his tabernacle and those that dwell in heaven.

² And Jehu, the son of Hanani, the seer, went out to meet him and said to king Jehoshaphat, Should thou help the ungodly and love those that hate the LORD? Therefore, the wrath of the presence of the LORD shall be upon thee.

⁴ In whose eyes the vile person is not esteemed; but he honours those that fear the LORD. He that swears to his own hurt and does not change.

⁵ I have hated the congregation of evil doers and will not sit with the wicked.

⁶ I have hated those that regard lying vanities; but I wait in the LORD.

¹³⁶ ¶ Rivers of waters ran down my eyes because they did not keep thy law.

¹⁵⁸ ¶ I beheld the transgressors and was grieved because they did not keep thy words.

¹⁷ But if ye will not hear this, my soul shall weep in secret because of your pride; and weeping bitterly, my eyes shall be undone in tears because the LORD’s flock was carried away captive.

⁵ And looking round about on them with anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out and his hand was restored whole as the other.

⁴¹ ¶ And when he was come near, he beheld the city and wept over it,

¹ ¶ I say the truth in Christ, I do not lie, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, ² that I have great sorrow and continual pain in my heart. ³ For I could wish that myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren, those who are my kinsmen according to the flesh,

² I know thy works and thy labour and thy patience and how thou canst not bear those who are evil; and thou hast tried those who say they are apostles and are not and hast found them liars,

⁶ But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

³ I will set nothing of Belial before my eyes: I hate the work of those that betray; it shall not cleave to me. ⁴ A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know a wicked person. ⁵ Whosoever secretly slanders his neighbour, I will cut off; he that has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer. ⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he that walks in the way of perfection, he shall serve me. ⁷ He that works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he that tells lies shall not tarry in my sight. ⁸ I will early destroy all the wicked of the land, that I may cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of the LORD.

²⁶ If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, and even his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

² And thou shalt remember all the way by which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness to afflict thee and to prove thee to know what was in thine heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.

¹⁶ who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, a food which thy fathers knew not, afflicting thee and proving thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

⁶ let me be weighed in a just balance, that God may know my integrity.

² Examine me, O LORD and prove me; melt my kidneys and my heart.

¹ To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David. ¶ O LORD, thou hast searched me and known me.

³ ¶ The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tries the hearts.

²⁰ But, O LORD of the hosts, that judges righteously, that tries the kidneys and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them, for unto thee I have uncovered my cause.

⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

² But who may abide the time of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he shall be like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap: ³ And he shall sit to refine and to purify the silver: for he shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them as gold and silver that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest;

⁸ Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

³ O LORD my God, if I have done this: if there is iniquity in my hands, ⁴ if I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me, then let my persecutor escape without retribution.

¹¹ Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; in thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

⁸ ¶ Cheth Good and upright is the LORD: therefore he will teach sinners in the way. ⁹ Teth He will cause the humble to pass through the judgment, and the meek he will teach his way.

¹ ¶ ALEPH. Blessed are those who walk in the perfect way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

³² I will run the way of thy commandments when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

⁸ Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning, for in thee do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto thee.

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Let thy good Spirit lead me into the land of uprightness.

⁹ ¶ The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD, but he loves him that follows after righteousness.

²⁶ ¶ He that trusts in his own heart is a fool, but whosoever walks in wisdom, he shall be saved.

¹⁴ because narrow is the gate, and confined is the way which leads unto life, and there are few that find it.

⁶ Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.

⁶ Therefore in the manner in which ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him,

¹⁵ looking diligently that no one deviate from the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up impede you, and thereby many be defiled, ¹⁶ lest there be any fornicator or profane person as Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.
