¹ But when Sanabalat heard that we buylded the wall, he was wroth, and toke great indignacion and mocked the Iewes,

¹ But when the aduersaries of Iuda and Ben Iamin hearde, that the children of the captiuite builded the temple vnto the Lorde God of Israel, ² they came to Zorobabel and to the principal fathers, and saide vnto them: We wyl buylde with you: for we seke the Lorde youre God lyke as ye do. And we haue done sacrifice vnto him, sence the tyme that Asor Hadon the Kinge of Assur broughte vs vp hyther. ³ But Zorobabel and Iesua and the other auncient fathers of Israel answered them: It belongeth not to you, but to vs to buylde the house vnto oure God: for we oure selues wil buylde alone vnto the Lorde oure God of Israel, as Cyrus the kinge of Persia hathe commaunded vs. ⁴ Then the folke of the lande hindered the people of Iuda, and made them afrayed to buylde, ⁵ and hyred councelers agaynst them, and hindred their deuyce, as longe as Cyrus the Kynge of Persia lyued, vntyll the raigne of Darius kynge of Persia.

¹⁰ But when Sanabalat the Horonite and Tobiah the seruaunt of the Ammonites heard that, it greued them sore, that there was come a man which soughte the welth of the chyldren of Israel.

¹⁹ But when Senabalat the Horonite, and Tobiah the seruaunte of the Ammonites, and Gesem the Arabian hearde it, they laughed vs to skorne, and despysed vs, & sayde: what is thys that ye do? Wyll ye fall away againe from the kynge?

¹⁵ But in myne aduersitie they reioyse, & gather them together. Yea, the very lame come together agaynste me vnwares, makynge mowes at me, and ceasse not. ¹⁶ With the gredy and scorneful hypocrites they gnasshed vpon me with their teeth.

¹³ Thou makeste vs to be rebuked of oure neyghboures, to be laughed to scorne & had in derision, of them that are rounde about v ¹⁴ Thou hast made vs, a very by word among the Heathen, and that the people shake their heades at vs.

²⁹ and platted a croune of thornes & put vpon his head, and a reed in his ryght hande, & bowed their knees before him and mocked hym, sayinge: hayle kinge of the Iewes,

¹⁷ Then the chiefe Prieste arose vp & al they that were with hym (which is the seete of the Saduces) and were full of indignacion,

³⁶ Other tasted of mockynges and scourgynges, moreouer of bondes and prysonmente,
