Joshua 9:15-27

  15 H3091 And Joshua H6213 [H8799] made H7965 peace H3772 [H8799] with them, and made H1285 a league H2421 [H8763] with them, to let them live: H5387 and the princes H5712 of the company H7650 [H8735] swore to them.

  16 H7097 And it came to pass at the end H7969 of three H3117 days H310 after H3772 [H8804] they had made H1285 a league H8085 [H8799] with them, that they heard H7138 that they were their neighbours, H3427 [H8802] and that they dwelt H7130 among them.

  17 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H5265 [H8799] journeyed, H935 [H8799] and came H5892 to their cities H7992 on the third H3117 day. H5892 Now their cities H1391 were Gibeon, H3716 and Chephirah, H881 and Beeroth, H7157 and Kirjathjearim.

  18 H9002 And H1121 the sons H3478 of Israel H5221 [H8689] smote H9038 them H3808 not, H3588 because H5387 the princes H9009 of the H5712 company H7650 [H8738] had sworn H9008 to H9038 them H9003 by H3068 the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel. H9001 And H3605 all H9009 the H5712 company H3885 [H8735] murmured H5921 against H9009 the H5387 princes.

  19 H5387 But all the princes H559 [H8799] said H3605 to all H5712 the company, H7650 [H8738] We have sworn H3068 to them by the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel: H3201 [H8799] now therefore we may H5060 [H8800] not touch them.

  20 H6213 [H8799] This we will do H2421 [H8687] to them; we will even let them live, H7110 lest splintering rage H7621 be upon us, because of the oath H7650 [H8738] which we swore to them.

  21 H5387 And the princes H559 [H8799] said H2421 [H8799] to them, Let them live; H2404 [H8802] but let them be hewers H6086 of wood H7579 [H8802] and drawers H4325 of water H3605 to all H5712 the company; H5387 as the princes H1696 [H8765] had promised them.

  22 H3091 And Joshua H7121 [H8799] called H1696 [H8762] for them, and he spoke H559 [H8800] to them, saying, H7411 [H8765] Why have ye deceived H559 [H8800] us, saying, H3966 We are very H7350 far H3427 [H8802] from you; when ye dwell H7130 among us?

  23 H779 [H8803] Now therefore ye are cursed, H3772 [H8735] and there shall none of you be freed H5650 from being slaves, H2404 [H8802] and hewers H6086 of wood H7579 [H8802] and drawers H4325 of water H1004 for the house H430 of my God.

  24 H6030 [H8799] And they answered H3091 Joshua, H559 [H8799] and said, H5046 [H8715] Because it was certainly H5046 [H8717] told H5650 thy servants, H3068 how the LORD H430 thy God H6680 [H8765] commanded H5650 his servant H4872 Moses H5414 [H8800] to give H776 you all the land, H8045 [H8687] and to desolate H3427 [H8802] all the inhabitants H776 of the land H6440 from the face of H3966 you, therefore we were greatly H3372 [H8799] afraid H5315 for our lives H6440 because H6213 [H8799] of you, and have done H1697 this thing.

  25 H2009 And now, behold, we H3027 are in thine hand: H6213 [H8798] do H5869 as it seemeth H2896 good H3477 and right H6213 [H8800] to thee to do to us.

  26 H6213 [H8799] And so did H5337 [H8686] he to them, and delivered H3027 them out of the hand H1121 of the sons H3478 of Israel, H2026 [H8804] that they slew them not.

  27 H3091 And Joshua H5414 [H8799] made H3117 them that day H2404 [H8802] hewers H6086 of wood H7579 [H8802] and drawers H4325 of water H5712 for the company, H4196 and for the altar H3068 of the LORD, H3117 even to this day, H4725 in the place H977 [H8799] which he should choose.
