1 Samuel 21 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

1 H935 Then came H1732 David H5011 to Nob H288 to Ahimelech H3548 the priest: H288 and Ahimelech H7125 came to meet H1732 David H2729 trembling, H559 and said H376 unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

2 H1732 And David H559 said H288 unto Ahimelech H3548 the priest, H4428 The king H6680 hath commanded H1697 me a business, H559 and hath said H376 unto me, Let no man H3045 know H3972 anything H1697 of the business H7971 whereabout I send H6680 thee, and what I have commanded H6680 thee: and I have appointed H5288 the young men H6423 to such H492 and such H4725 a place.

3 H3426 Now therefore what is H3027 under thy hand? H5414 give H2568 me five H3899 loaves of bread H3027 in my hand, H4672 or whatsoever there is present.

4 H3548 And the priest H6030 answered H1732 David, H559 and said, H2455 There is no common H3899 bread H3027 under my hand, H3426 but there is H6944 holy H3899 bread; H5288 if only the young men H8104 have kept H389 themselves from H802 women.

5 H1732 And David H6030 answered H3548 the priest, H559 and said H518 unto him, Of a truth H802 women H6113 have been kept H8032 from us about these three H8543 days; H3318 when I came out, H3627 the vessels H5288 of the young men H6944 were holy, H2455 though it was but a common H1870 journey; H3117 how much more then to-day H3627 shall their vessels H6942 be holy?

6 H3548 So the priest H5414 gave H6944 him holy H3899 bread; for there was no bread H3899 there but the showbread, H5493 that was taken H6440 from before H3068 Jehovah, H7760 to put H2527 hot H3899 bread H3117 in the day H3947 when it was taken away.

7 H376 Now a certain man H5650 of the servants H7586 of Saul H3117 was there that day, H6113 detained H6440 before H3068 Jehovah; H8034 and his name H1673 was Doeg H130 the Edomite, H47 the chiefest H7462 of the herdsmen H7586 that belonged to Saul.

8 H1732 And David H559 said H288 unto Ahimelech, H3426 And is there H371 not H3027 here under thy hand H2595 spear H2719 or sword? H3947 for I have neither brought H2719 my sword H3627 nor my weapons H3027 with me, H4428 because the king's H1697 business H1961 required H5169 haste.

9 H3548 And the priest H559 said, H2719 The sword H1555 of Goliath H6430 the Philistine, H5221 whom thou slewest H6010 in the vale H425 of Elah, H3874 behold, it is here wrapped H8071 in a cloth H310 behind H646 the ephod: H3947 if thou wilt take H3947 that, take H312 it; for there is no other H2108 save H2088 that here. H1732 And David H559 said, H5414 There is none like that; give it me.

10 H1732 And David H6965 arose, H1272 and fled H3117 that day H6440 for fear H7586 of Saul, H935 and went H397 to Achish H4428 the king H1661 of Gath.

11 H5650 And the servants H397 of Achish H559 said H1732 unto him, Is not this David H4428 the king H776 of the land? H6030 did they not sing H2088 one to another of him H4246 in dances, H559 saying, H7586 Saul H5221 hath slain H505 his thousands, H1732 And David H7233 his ten thousands?

12 H1732 And David H7760 laid up H1697 these words H3824 in his heart, H3966 and was sore H3372 afraid H6440 of H397 Achish H4428 the king H1661 of Gath.

13 H8138 And he changed H2940 his behavior H5869 before H1984 them, and feigned himself mad H3027 in their hands, H8427 and scrabbled H1817 on the doors H8179 of the gate, H7388 and let his spittle H3381 fall down H2206 upon his beard.

14 H559 Then said H397 Achish H5650 unto his servants, H7200 Lo, ye see H376 the man H7696 is mad; H935 wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

15 H2638 Do I lack H7696 madmen, H935 that ye have brought H7696 this fellow to play the madman H935 in my presence? shall this fellow come H1004 into my house?
