YERU SHALEM IS VISITED
O you sons of Ben Yamin, withdraw yourselves to flee from midst Yeru Shalem: and blast the shophar in Teqoa and lift a burden in Beth Hak Kerem: for evil looks from the north, and great breaking. 2 I severed the delicate daughter of Siyon to a habitation of rest: 3 the tenders with their droves come to her; they stake their tents against her all round; every man tends at his hand. 4 You, hallow war against her! Rise! We ascend at noon! Woe to us! For the day faces away; for the shadows of the evening spread. 5 Rise! We ascend by night and ruin her citadels. 6 For thus says Yah Veh Sabaoth, Cut down trees; and pour a mound against Yeru Shalem - the city to visit; total oppression is in her midst. 7 As digging a well for waters, thus she digs her evil: violence and ravage is heard in her; at my face continually is sickness and wounds. 8 Be instructed, O Yeru Shalem, lest my soul depart from you; lest I set you desolate - a land not settled. 9 Thus says Yah Veh Sabaoth, They throughly glean, as a vine, the survivors of Yisra El: turn back your hand, as a clipper, into the baskets. 10 To whom word I, and witness to them to hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of Yah Veh is their reproach; they delight not therein: 11 and I am filled with the fury of Yah Veh; I am weary of containing: I pour it out on the suckling in the outways and on the private counsel of youths together: for they even capture the man with the woman - the elder with him who is full of days: 12 and turn their houses to others together with their fields and women: for I spread my hand on the settlers of the land - an oracle of Yah Veh. 13 For from their least, even to their greatest, every one greedily gains to greedy gain; and from the prophet, even to the priest, every one works falsely: 14 and they heal the breeching of my people slightly, saying, Shalom! Shalom! when there is no shalom. 15 Shame they when they work abhorrence? No! In shaming, they neither shame nor know how to shame: so they fall among the fallen: at the time I visit them, they falter, says Yah Veh. 16 Thus says Yah Veh, You, stand in the ways, and see; and ask for the eternal paths where the good way is and walk therein; and find a resting place for your souls. And they say, We walk not. 17 And I raise watchers over you, Hearken to the voice of the shophar. And they say, We hearken not. 18 So hear, you goyim, and know, O witness, what is among them. 19 Hear, O earth! Behold, I bring evil on this people - the fruit of their fabrications because they hearken not to my words, and my torah, they spurn. 20 Why to me, this incense from Sheba? And the good stalk from a far land? neither are your holocausts pleasing nor your sacrifices pleasing to me. 21 So thus says Yah Veh, Behold, I give stumblingblocks in front of this people; and the fathers and the sons together falter on them; the fellow tabernacler and his friend destruct. 22 Thus says Yah Veh, Behold, a people comes from the north land and a great goyim wakens from the flanks of the earth: 23 they lay hold on bow and dart; they are cruel, and mercy not; their voice roars as the sea; and they ride on horses - lined up as men for war against you, O daughter of Siyon. 24 We hear the fame: our hands slacken: tribulation takes hold of us - pang, as in birthing. 25 Neither go forth into the field nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and terror is all around. 26 O daughter of my people, gird with saq, and wallow yourself in ashes: work your mourning, as for an only son - a chopping most bitter: for the ravager comes on us suddenly. 27 I give you for a tower and a fortress among my people, so that you know and proof their way. 28 They all are turned aside by revolters; walking with talebearers: they are copper and iron; they all are ruiners: 29 the bellows are scorched, the lead is consumed by the fire; the refiner refines in vain; for the evil are not torn away: 30 Refuse silver, they are called, because Yah Veh refused them.
