THE WORD OF YAH VEH TO YONAH
And so be the word of Yah Veh to Yonah the son of Amittay, saying, 2 Rise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it; for their evil ascends at my face. 3
YONAH FLEES FROM YAH VEH
And Yonah rises to flee from the face of Yah Veh to Tarshish; and descends to Yapho; and he finds a ship going to Tarshish: so he gives the hire and descends into it to go with them to Tarshish from the face of Yah Veh. 4 And Yah Veh casts a great wind on the sea, and there is a great storm in the sea, so that the ship fabricates to be broken: 5 and the mariners awe and every man cries to his elohim; and cast the instruments in the ship into the sea to lighten it by them: and Yonah descends into the flanks of the ship; and he lies down and sleeps soundly: 6 and the great sailer approaches him, and says to him, What mean you, O sound sleeper? Rise, call on your Elohim, if so be that Elohim shine on us that we not destruct. 7 And every man says to his friend, Come, and we fell pebbles, so that we know on whose account this evil is on us. - and they fell pebbles and the pebble falls on Yonah. 8 And they say to him, Tell us, we beseech you, for whose cause this evil is on us! What is your work? And whence come you? What is your land? And of what people are you? 9 And he says to them, I - a Hebrew; and I fear Yah Veh Elohim of the heavens, who worked the sea and the dry. 10 And the men awe an awe, and say to him, Why work you this? - for the men know he flees from the face of Yah Veh - because he told them. 11 And they say to him, What work we to you, to subside the sea to us? - for the sea works and storms. 12
YONAH SWALLOWED BY A GREAT FISH
And he says to them, Take me and cast me into the sea; and thus the sea subsides to you: for I know that on my account this great storm is on you. 13 And the men paddle hard to return to the dry; and they cannot: for the sea works and storms against them. 14 And they call out to Yah Veh, and say, We beseech you, O Yah Veh, we beseech you, that we not destruct for the soul of this man, and give not innocent blood on us: for you, O Yah Veh, work as it delights you. 15 So they lift Yonah, and cast him into the sea and the sea stands from her raging: 16 and the men awe an awe to Yah Veh and sacrifice a sacrifice and vow vows to Yah Veh: 17 and Yah Veh numbers a great fish to swallow Yonah: and Yonah is in the inwards of the fish three days and three nights.
