Samuel 1

KJV_Strongs(i)
H259 Now there was a certain H376 man H7436 of Ramathaimzophim H2022 , of mount H669 Ephraim H8034 , and his name H511 was Elkanah H1121 , the son H3395 of Jeroham H1121 , the son H453 of Elihu H1121 , the son H8459 of Tohu H1121 , the son H6689 of Zuph H673 , an Ephrathite:
H8147 And he had two H802 wives H8034 ; the name H259 of the one H2584 was Hannah H8034 , and the name H8145 of the other H6444 Peninnah H6444 : and Peninnah H3206 had children H2584 , but Hannah H3206 had no children.
H1931 And this H376 man H5927 went up [H8804]   H5892 out of his city H3117 yearly H3117   H7812 to worship [H8692]   H2076 and to sacrifice [H8800]   H3068 unto the LORD H6635 of hosts H7887 in Shiloh H8147 . And the two H1121 sons H5941 of Eli H2652 , Hophni H6372 and Phinehas H3548 , the priests H3068 of the LORD, were there.
H3117 And when the time H511 was that Elkanah H2076 offered [H8799]   H5414 , he gave [H8804]   H6444 to Peninnah H802 his wife H1121 , and to all her sons H1323 and her daughters H4490 , portions:
H2584 But unto Hannah H5414 he gave [H8799]   H259 a H639 worthy H4490 portion H157 ; for he loved [H8804]   H2584 Hannah H3068 : but the LORD H5462 had shut up [H8804]   H7358 her womb.
H6869 And her adversary H3707 also provoked [H8765]   H3708 her sore H7481 , for to make her fret [H8687]   H3068 , because the LORD H5462 had shut [H8804]   H1157 up H7358 her womb.
H6213 And as he did [H8799]   H8141 so year H8141 by year H1767 , when H5927 she went up [H8800]   H1004 to the house H3068 of the LORD H3707 , so she provoked [H8686]   H1058 her; therefore she wept [H8799]   H398 , and did not eat [H8799]  .
H559 Then said [H8799]   H511 Elkanah H376 her husband H2584 to her, Hannah H1058 , why weepest [H8799]   H398 thou? and why eatest [H8799]   H3824 thou not? and why is thy heart H3415 grieved [H8799]   H2896 ? am not I better H6235 to thee than ten H1121 sons?
H2584 So Hannah H6965 rose up [H8799]   H310 after H398 they had eaten [H8800]   H7887 in Shiloh H310 , and after H8354 they had drunk [H8800]   H5941 . Now Eli H3548 the priest H3427 sat [H8802]   H3678 upon a seat H4201 by a post H1964 of the temple H3068 of the LORD.
H4751 And she was in bitterness H5315 of soul H6419 , and prayed [H8691]   H3068 unto the LORD H1058 , and wept [H8799]   H1058 sore [H8800]  .
H5087 And she vowed [H8799]   H5088 a vow H559 , and said [H8799]   H3068 , O LORD H6635 of hosts H7200 , if thou wilt indeed [H8800]   H7200 look [H8799]   H6040 on the affliction H519 of thine handmaid H2142 , and remember [H8804]   H7911 me, and not forget [H8799]   H519 thine handmaid H5414 , but wilt give [H8804]   H519 unto thine handmaid H582 a man H2233 child H5414 , then I will give [H8804]   H3068 him unto the LORD H3117 all the days H2416 of his life H4177 , and there shall no razor H5927 come [H8799]   H7218 upon his head.
H7235 And it came to pass, as she continued [H8689]   H6419 praying [H8692]   H6440 before H3068 the LORD H5941 , that Eli H8104 marked [H8802]   H6310 her mouth.
H2584 Now Hannah H1696 , she spake [H8764]   H3820 in her heart H8193 ; only her lips H5128 moved [H8801]   H6963 , but her voice H8085 was not heard [H8735]   H5941 : therefore Eli H2803 thought [H8799]   H7910 she had been drunken.
H5941 And Eli H559 said [H8799]   H7937 unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken [H8691]   H5493 ? put away [H8685]   H3196 thy wine from thee.
H2584 And Hannah H6030 answered [H8799]   H559 and said [H8799]   H113 , No, my lord H802 , I am a woman H7186 of a sorrowful H7307 spirit H8354 : I have drunk [H8804]   H3196 neither wine H7941 nor strong drink H8210 , but have poured out [H8799]   H5315 my soul H6440 before H3068 the LORD.
H5414 Count [H8799]   H519 not thine handmaid H6440 for H1323 a daughter H1100 of Belial H7230 : for out of the abundance H7879 of my complaint H3708 and grief H1696 have I spoken [H8765]   hitherto.
H5941 Then Eli H6030 answered [H8799]   H559 and said [H8799]   H3212 , Go [H8798]   H7965 in peace H430 : and the God H3478 of Israel H5414 grant [H8799]   H7596 thee thy petition H7592 that thou hast asked [H8804]   of him.
H559 And she said [H8799]   H8198 , Let thine handmaid H4672 find [H8799]   H2580 grace H5869 in thy sight H802 . So the woman H3212 went [H8799]   H1870 her way H398 , and did eat [H8799]   H6440 , and her countenance was no more sad .
H7925 And they rose up H1242 in the morning H7925 early [H8686]   H7812 , and worshipped [H8691]   H6440 before H3068 the LORD H7725 , and returned [H8799]   H935 , and came [H8799]   H1004 to their house H7414 to Ramah H511 : and Elkanah H3045 knew [H8799]   H2584 Hannah H802 his wife H3068 ; and the LORD H2142 remembered [H8799]   her.
H3117 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time H8622 was come H2584 about after Hannah H2029 had conceived [H8799]   H3205 , that she bare [H8799]   H1121 a son H7121 , and called [H8799]   H8034 his name H8050 Samuel H7592 , saying, Because I have asked [H8804]   H3068 him of the LORD.
H376 And the man H511 Elkanah H1004 , and all his house H5927 , went up [H8799]   H2076 to offer [H8800]   H3068 unto the LORD H3117 the yearly H2077 sacrifice H5088 , and his vow.
H2584 But Hannah H5927 went not up [H8804]   H559 ; for she said [H8804]   H376 unto her husband H5288 , I will not go up until the child H1580 be weaned [H8735]   H935 , and then I will bring [H8689]   H7200 him, that he may appear [H8738]   H6440 before H3068 the LORD H3427 , and there abide [H8804]   H5704 for H5769 ever.
H511 And Elkanah H376 her husband H559 said [H8799]   H6213 unto her, Do [H8798]   H5869 what seemeth H2896 thee good H3427 ; tarry [H8798]   H1580 until thou have weaned [H8800]   H3068 him; only the LORD H6965 establish [H8686]   H1697 his word H802 . So the woman H3427 abode [H8799]   H1121 , and gave her son H3243 suck [H8686]   H1580 until she weaned [H8800]   him.
H1580 And when she had weaned [H8804]   H5927 him, she took him up [H8686]   H7969 with her, with three H6499 bullocks H259 , and one H374 ephah H7058 of flour H5035 , and a bottle H3196 of wine H935 , and brought [H8686]   H1004 him unto the house H3068 of the LORD H7887 in Shiloh H5288 : and the child H5288 was young.
H7819 And they slew [H8799]   H6499 a bullock H935 , and brought [H8686]   H5288 the child H5941 to Eli.
H559 And she said [H8799]   H994 , Oh H113 my lord H5315 , as thy soul H2416 liveth H113 , my lord H802 , I am the woman H5324 that stood [H8737]   H6419 by thee here, praying [H8692]   H3068 unto the LORD.
H5288 For this child H6419 I prayed [H8694]   H3068 ; and the LORD H5414 hath given [H8799]   H7596 me my petition H7592 which I asked [H8804]   of him:
H7592 Therefore also I have lent [H8689]   H3068 him to the LORD H3117 ; as long as he liveth H7592 he shall be lent [H8803]   H3068 to the LORD H7812 . And he worshipped [H8691]   H3068 the LORD there.
ERV(i) 1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite: 2 and he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. 3 And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests unto the LORD, were there. 4 And when the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters portions: 5 but unto Hannah he gave a double portion: for he loved Hannah, but the LORD had shut up her womb. 6 And her rival provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb. 7 And [as] he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. 8 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons? 9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon his seat by the door post of the temple of the LORD. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore. 11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. 12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth. 13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken. 14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee. 15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before the LORD. 16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation have I spoken hitherto. 17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thy petition that thou hast asked of him. 18 And she said, Let thy servant find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more [sad]. 19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her. 20 And it came to pass, when the time was come about, that Hannah conceived, and bare a son; and she called his name Samuel, [saying], Because I have asked him of the LORD. 21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. 22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, [I will not go up] until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever. 23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman tarried and gave her son suck, until she weaned him. 24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young. 25 And they slew the bullock, and brought the child to Eli. 26 And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD. 27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: 28 wherefore I also have granted him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he is granted to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.
