1 Kings 12:1-24

  1 H7346 And Rehoboam H3212 [H8799] went H7927 to Shechem: H3478 for all Israel H935 [H8804] had come H7927 to Shechem H4427 [H8687] to make him king.
  2 H3379 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat, H4714 who was yet in Egypt, H8085 [H8800] heard H1272 [H8804] of it, (for he had fled H6440 from the face H4428 of king H8010 Solomon, H3379 and Jeroboam H3427 [H8799] dwelt H4714 in Egypt;)
  3 H7971 [H8799] That they sent H7121 [H8799] and called H3379 him. And Jeroboam H6951 and all the congregation H3478 of Israel H935 [H8799] came, H1696 [H8762] and spoke H7346 to Rehoboam, H559 [H8800] saying,
  4 H1 Thy father H7185 0 made H5923 our yoke H7185 [H8689] grievous: H7186 now therefore make thou the grievous H5656 service H1 of thy father, H3515 and his heavy H5923 yoke H5414 [H8804] which he put H7043 [H8685] upon us, lighter, H5647 [H8799] and we will serve thee.
  5 H559 [H8799] And he said H3212 [H8798] to them, Depart H7969 yet for three H3117 days, H7725 [H8798] then come again H5971 to me. And the people H3212 [H8799] departed.
  6 H4428 And king H7346 Rehoboam H3289 [H8735] consulted H2205 with the old men, H5975 [H8802] that stood H6440 at the face of H8010 Solomon H1 his father H2416 while he yet lived, H559 [H8800] and said, H3289 [H8737] How do ye advise H7725 [H8687] that I may H1697 answer H5971 this people?
  7 H1696 [H8762] And they spoke H559 [H8800] to him, saying, H5650 If thou wilt be a servant H5971 to this people H3117 this day, H5647 [H8804] and wilt serve H6030 [H8804] them, and answer H1696 [H8765] them, and speak H2896 good H1697 words H5650 to them, then they will be thy servants H3117 for ever.
  8 H5800 [H8799] But he forsook H6098 the counsel H2205 of the old men, H3289 [H8804] which they had given H3289 [H8735] him, and consulted H3206 with the young men H1431 [H8804] that had grown up H5975 [H8802] with him, and who stood H6440 at the face of him:
  9 H559 [H8799] And he said H3289 [H8737] to them, What counsel give H7725 [H8686] ye that we may H1697 answer H5971 this people, H1696 [H8765] who have spoken H559 [H8800] to me, saying, H7043 0 Make H5923 the yoke H1 which thy father H5414 [H8804] did put H7043 [H8685] upon us lighter?
  10 H3206 And the young men H1431 [H8804] that had grown up H1696 [H8762] with him spoke H559 [H8800] to him, saying, H559 [H8799] Thus shalt thou speak H5971 to this people H1696 [H8765] who spoke H559 [H8800] to thee, saying, H1 Thy father H3513 0 made H5923 our yoke H3513 [H8689] heavy, H7043 [H8685] but make thou it lighter H1696 [H8762] to us; thus shalt thou say H6995 to them, My little H5666 [H8804] finger shall be thicker H1 than my father's H4975 loins.
  11 H9002 And H6258 now H9020 though my H1 father H6006 [H8689] loaded H5921 upon H9036 you H3515 a heavy H5923 yoke, H589 I H3254 [H8686] will add H5921 to H9026 your H5923 yoke: H9020 my H1 father H3256 [H8765] hath chastised H9036 you H9003 with H7752 whips, H9002 but H589 I H3256 [H8762] will chastise H9036 you H9003 with H6137 scorpions.
  12 H3379 So Jeroboam H5971 and all the people H935 [H8799] came H7346 to Rehoboam H7992 the third H3117 day, H4428 as the king H1696 [H8765] had appointed, H559 [H8800] saying, H7725 [H8798] Come to me again H7992 the third H3117 day.
  13 H4428 And the king H6030 [H8799] answered H5971 the people H7186 roughly, H5800 [H8799] and forsook H2205 the old men's H6098 counsel H3289 [H8804] that they gave him;
  14 H1696 [H8762] And spoke H6098 to them after the counsel H3206 of the young men, H559 [H8800] saying, H1 My father H3513 0 made H5923 your yoke H3513 [H8689] heavy, H3254 [H8686] and I will add H5923 to your yoke: H1 my father H3256 [H8765] also chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 [H8762] but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.
  15 H4428 Therefore the king H8085 [H8804] hearkened H5971 not to the people; H5438 for the cause H3068 was from the LORD, H6965 [H8687] that he might raise H1697 his saying, H3068 which the LORD H1696 [H8765] spoke H3027 by H281 Ahijah H7888 the Shilonite H3379 to Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat.
  16 H7725 [H8686] So H3478 when all Israel H7200 [H8799] saw H4428 that the king H8085 [H8804] hearkened H5971 not to them, the people H1697 answered H4428 the king, H559 [H8800] saying, H2506 What portion H1732 have we in David? H5159 neither have we inheritance H1121 in the son H3448 of Jesse: H168 to your tents, H3478 O Israel: H7200 [H8798] now see H1004 to thy own house, H1732 David. H3478 So Israel H3212 [H8799] departed H168 to their tents.
  17 H1121 But as for the sons H3478 of Israel H3427 [H8802] who dwelt H5892 in the cities H3063 of Judah, H7346 Rehoboam H4427 [H8799] reigned over them.
  18 H4428 Then king H7346 Rehoboam H7971 [H8799] sent H151 Adoram, H4522 who was over the forced labour; H3478 and all Israel H7275 [H8799] stoned H68 him with stones, H4191 [H8799] that he died. H4428 Therefore king H7346 Rehoboam H553 [H8694] made speed H5927 [H8800] to enter H4818 his chariot, H5127 [H8800] to flee H3389 to Jerusalem.
  19 H3478 So Israel H6586 [H8799] rebelled H1004 against the house H1732 of David H3117 to this day.
  20 H3605 And it came to pass, when all H3478 Israel H8085 [H8800] heard H3379 that Jeroboam H7725 [H8804] had come again, H7971 [H8799] that they sent H7121 [H8799] and called H9033 him H413 to H9009 the H5712 company, H4427 [H8686] and made him king H3478 over all Israel: H310 there was none that followed H1004 the house H1732 of David, H2108 but H7626 the tribe H3063 of Judah only.
  21 H7346 And when Rehoboam H935 [H8799] had come H3389 to Jerusalem, H6950 [H8686] he congregated H1004 all the house H3063 of Judah, H7626 with the tribe H1144 of Benjamin, H3967 an hundred H8084 and eighty H505 thousand H977 [H8803] chosen men, H6213 H4421 [H8802] who were warriors, H3898 [H8736] to fight H1004 against the house H3478 of Israel, H7725 0 to bring H4410 the kingdom H7725 [H8687] again H7346 to Rehoboam H1121 the son H8010 of Solomon.
  22 H1697 But the word H430 of God H8098 came to Shemaiah H376 the man H430 of God, H559 [H8800] saying,
  23 H559 [H8798] Speak H7346 to Rehoboam, H1121 the son H8010 of Solomon, H4428 king H3063 of Judah, H1004 and to all the house H3063 of Judah H1144 and Benjamin, H3499 and to the remnant H5971 of the people, H559 [H8800] saying,
  24 H559 [H8804] Thus saith H3068 the LORD, H5927 [H8799] Ye shall not go up, H3898 [H8735] nor fight H251 against your brethren H1121 the sons H3478 of Israel: H7725 [H8798] return H376 every man H1004 to his house; H1697 for this thing H1961 [H8738] is H8085 [H8799] from me. They hearkened H1697 therefore to the word H3068 of the LORD, H7725 [H8799] and returned H3212 [H8800] to depart, H1697 according to the word H3068 of the LORD.
