19 And Herodias held it against him, and wished to kill him, and was not able.
20 For Herod was afraid of John, knowing him a righteous and holy man; and he kept him safe. And having heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and heard him gladly.
21 And an opportune day having come, when Herod on his birthday made a banquet to his great men, and to the chief captains, and to the leading men of Galilee,
22 and the daughter of Herodias herself having come in, and having danced, pleased Herod and those reclining with him. And the king said the to the girl, “Ask me whatever you wish, and I will give to you.”
23 And he swore to her, “Whatever you might ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”
24 And she having gone out, said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the one baptizing.”
25 And having entered immediately with haste to the king, she asked, saying, “I desire that you give to me the head of John the Baptist upon a platter at once.”
26 And the king, having been made very sorrowful, on account of the oaths and those reclining with him, did not want to refuse her.
27 And immediately the king, having sent an executioner, commanded to be brought his head. And having gone, he beheaded him in the prison,
