Mark 6:19-27

VIN(i) 19 So Herodias held a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she had been unable, 20 because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing he was a righteous and holy man. When he heard John’s words, he was greatly perplexed; yet he listened to him gladly. 21 But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his high officers and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee. 22 And when the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, "Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you." 23 And he vowed to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom." 24 So she came out and said to her mother, "What shall I ask for?" "The head of John the Baptist," she replied. 25 Immediately the girl hurried back to the king with her request, "I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter." 26 The king was overwhelmed with sorrow, but because of his oaths and his guests, he did not want to refuse her. 27 So he immediately sent one of the guardsmen with orders to bring John's head. The soldier went and beheaded him in the prison
