1 Samuel 21 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest : and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David , and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

2 H1732 And David H559 said [H8799] H288 unto Ahimelech H3548 the priest H4428 , The king H6680 hath commanded [H8765] H1697 me a business H559 , and hath said [H8799] H376 unto me, Let no man H3045 know [H8799] H3972 any thing H1697 of the business H7971 whereabout I send [H8802] H6680 thee, and what I have commanded [H8765] H3045 thee: and I have appointed [H8776] H5288 my servants H6423 to such H492 and such H4725 a place.

3 H3426 Now therefore what is H3027 under thine hand H5414 ? give [H8798] H2568 me five H3899 loaves of bread H3027 in mine hand H4672 , or what there is present [H8737] .

4 H3548 And the priest H6030 answered [H8799] H1732 David H559 , and said [H8799] H2455 , There is no common H3899 bread H3027 under mine hand H3426 , but there is H6944 hallowed H3899 bread H5288 ; if the young men H8104 have kept [H8738] H389 themselves at least H802 from women.

5 H1732 And David H6030 answered [H8799] H3548 the priest H559 , and said [H8799] H518 unto him, Of a truth H802 women H6113 have been kept [H8803] H8032 from us about these three H8543 days H3318 , since I came out [H8800] H3627 , and the vessels H5288 of the young men H6944 are holy H1870 , and the bread is in a manner H2455 common H6942 , yea, though it were sanctified [H8799] H3117 this day H3627 in the vessel.

6 H3548 So the priest H5414 gave [H8799] H6944 him hallowed H3899 bread : for there was no bread H3899 there but the shewbread H6440 H5493 , that was taken [H8716] H6440 from before H3068 the LORD H7760 , to put [H8800] H2527 hot H3899 bread H3117 in the day H3947 when it was taken away [H8736] .

7 H376 Now a certain man H5650 of the servants H7586 of Saul H3117 was there that day H6113 , detained [H8737] H6440 before H3068 the LORD H8034 ; and his name H1673 was Doeg H130 , an Edomite H47 , the chiefest H7462 of the herdmen [H8802] H7586 that belonged to Saul.

8 H1732 And David H559 said [H8799] H288 unto Ahimelech H3426 , And is there H371 not H3027 here under thine hand H2595 spear H2719 or sword H3947 ? for I have neither brought [H8804] H2719 my sword H3627 nor my weapons H3027 with me H4428 , because the king's H1697 business H1961 required [H8804] H5169 haste [H8803] .

9 H3548 And the priest H559 said [H8799] H2719 , The sword H1555 of Goliath H6430 the Philistine H5221 , whom thou slewest [H8689] H6010 in the valley H425 of Elah H3874 , behold, it is here wrapped [H8803] H8071 in a cloth H310 behind H646 the ephod H3947 : if thou wilt take [H8799] H3947 that, take [H8798] H312 it : for there is no other H2108 save H2088 that here H1732 . And David H559 said [H8799] H5414 , There is none like that; give [H8798] it me.

10 H1732 And David H6965 arose [H8799] H1272 , and fled [H8799] H3117 that day H6440 for fear H7586 of Saul H935 , and went [H8799] H397 to Achish H4428 the king H1661 of Gath.

11 H5650 And the servants H397 of Achish H559 said [H8799] H1732 unto him, Is not this David H4428 the king H776 of the land H6030 ? did they not sing [H8799] H2088 one to another of him H4246 in dances H559 , saying [H8800] H7586 , Saul H5221 hath slain [H8689] H505 his thousands H1732 , and David H7233 his ten thousands?

12 H1732 And David H7760 laid up [H8799] H1697 these words H3824 in his heart H3966 , and was sore H3372 afraid [H8799] H6440 of H397 Achish H4428 the king H1661 of Gath.

13 H8138 And he changed [H8762] H2940 his behaviour H5869 before H1984 them, and feigned himself mad [H8704] H3027 in their hands H8427 , and scrabbled [H8762] H1817 on the doors H8179 of the gate H7388 , and let his spittle H3381 fall down [H8686] H2206 upon his beard.

14 H559 Then said [H8799] H397 Achish H5650 unto his servants H7200 , Lo, ye see [H8799] H376 the man H7696 is mad [H8693] H935 : wherefore then have ye brought [H8686] him to me?

15 H2638 Have I need H7696 of mad men [H8794] H935 , that ye have brought [H8689] H7696 this fellow to play the mad man [H8692] H935 in my presence? shall this fellow come [H8799] H1004 into my house?
