2 Samuel 11:8-15 And David said to Uriah , Go down to thy house , and wash thy feet . And Uriah departed out of the king's house , and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.

11 H223 And Uriah H559 said [H8799] H1732 unto David H727 , The ark H3478 , and Israel H3063 , and Judah H3427 , abide [H8802] H5521 in tents H113 ; and my lord H3097 Joab H5650 , and the servants H113 of my lord H2583 , are encamped [H8802] H6440 in the open H7704 fields H589 ; shall I H935 then go [H8799] H1004 into mine house H398 , to eat [H8800] H8354 and to drink [H8800] H7901 , and to lie [H8800] H802 with my wife H2416 ? as thou livest H5315 , and as thy soul H2416 liveth H6213 , I will not do [H8799] H1697 this thing.

12 H1732 And David H559 said [H8799] H223 to Uriah H3427 , Tarry [H8798] H3117 here to day H4279 also, and to morrow H7971 I will let thee depart [H8762] H223 . So Uriah H3427 abode [H8799] H3389 in Jerusalem H3117 that day H4283 , and the morrow.

13 H1732 And when David H7121 had called [H8799] H398 him, he did eat [H8799] H8354 and drink [H8799] H6440 before H7937 him; and he made him drunk [H8762] H6153 : and at even H3318 he went out [H8799] H7901 to lie [H8800] H4904 on his bed H5650 with the servants H113 of his lord H3381 , but went not down [H8804] H1004 to his house.

14 H1242 And it came to pass in the morning H1732 , that David H3789 wrote [H8799] H5612 a letter H3097 to Joab H7971 , and sent [H8799] H3027 it by the hand H223 of Uriah.

15 H3789 And he wrote [H8799] H5612 in the letter H559 , saying [H8800] H3051 , Set [H8798] H223 ye Uriah H6440 in the forefront H4136 H2389 of the hottest H4421 battle H7725 , and retire [H8804] H310 ye from him H5221 , that he may be smitten [H8738] H4191 , and die [H8804] .
