2 Samuel 12 And the LORD sent Nathan unto David . And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city ; the one rich , and the other poor .

1 H3068 And the LORD H7971 sent [H8799] H5416 Nathan H1732 unto David H935 . And he came [H8799] H559 unto him, and said [H8799] H8147 unto him, There were two H582 men H259 in one H5892 city H259 ; the one H6223 rich H259 , and the other H7326 poor [H8802] .

2 H6223 The rich H3966 man had exceeding H7235 many [H8687] H6629 flocks H1241 and herds:

3 H7326 But the poor [H8802] H259 man had nothing, save one H6996 little H3535 ewe lamb H7069 , which he had bought [H8804] H2421 and nourished up [H8762] H1431 : and it grew up [H8799] H3162 together H1121 with him, and with his children H398 ; it did eat [H8799] H6595 of his own meat H8354 , and drank [H8799] H3563 of his own cup H7901 , and lay [H8799] H2436 in his bosom H1323 , and was unto him as a daughter.

4 H935 And there came [H8799] H1982 a traveller H6223 unto the rich H376 man H2550 , and he spared [H8799] H3947 to take [H8800] H6629 of his own flock H1241 and of his own herd H6213 , to dress [H8800] H732 for the wayfaring man [H8802] H935 that was come [H8802] H3947 unto him; but took [H8799] H7326 the poor [H8802] H376 man's H3535 lamb H6213 , and dressed [H8799] H376 it for the man H935 that was come [H8802] to him.

5 H1732 And David's H639 anger H3966 was greatly H2734 kindled [H8799] H376 against the man H559 ; and he said [H8799] H5416 to Nathan H3068 , As the LORD H2416 liveth H376 , the man H6213 that hath done [H8802] H1121 this thing shall surely H4194 die:

6 H7999 And he shall restore [H8762] H3535 the lamb H706 fourfold H6118 , because H6213 he did [H8804] H1697 this thing H834 , and because H2550 he had no pity [H8804] .

7 H5416 And Nathan H559 said [H8799] H1732 to David H376 , Thou art the man H559 . Thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H4886 , I anointed [H8804] H4428 thee king H3478 over Israel H5337 , and I delivered [H8689] H3027 thee out of the hand H7586 of Saul;

8 H5414 And I gave [H8799] H113 thee thy master's H1004 house H113 , and thy master's H802 wives H2436 into thy bosom H5414 , and gave [H8799] H1004 thee the house H3478 of Israel H3063 and of Judah H4592 ; and if that had been too little H3254 , I would moreover have given [H8686] H2007 unto thee such H2007 and such things.

9 H959 Wherefore hast thou despised [H8804] H1697 the commandment H3068 of the LORD H6213 , to do [H8800] H7451 evil H5869 in his sight H5221 ? thou hast killed [H8689] H223 Uriah H2850 the Hittite H2719 with the sword H3947 , and hast taken [H8804] H802 his wife H802 to be thy wife H2026 , and hast slain [H8804] H2719 him with the sword H1121 of the children H5983 of Ammon.

10 H2719 Now therefore the sword H5704 shall never H5769 H5493 depart [H8799] H1004 from thine house H6118 ; because H959 thou hast despised [H8804] H3947 me, and hast taken [H8799] H802 the wife H223 of Uriah H2850 the Hittite H802 to be thy wife.

11 H559 Thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H6965 , Behold, I will raise up [H8688] H7451 evil H1004 against thee out of thine own house H3947 , and I will take [H8804] H802 thy wives H5869 before thine eyes H5414 , and give [H8804] H7453 them unto thy neighbour H7901 , and he shall lie [H8804] H802 with thy wives H5869 in the sight H8121 of this sun.

12 H6213 For thou didst [H8804] H5643 it secretly H6213 : but I will do [H8799] H1697 this thing H3478 before all Israel H8121 , and before the sun.

13 H1732 And David H559 said [H8799] H5416 unto Nathan H2398 , I have sinned [H8804] H3068 against the LORD H5416 . And Nathan H559 said [H8799] H1732 unto David H3068 , The LORD H5674 also hath put away [H8689] H2403 thy sin H4191 ; thou shalt not die [H8799] .

14 H657 Howbeit H1697 , because by this deed H5006 thou hast given H5006 great occasion [H8763] H341 to the enemies [H8802] H3068 of the LORD H5006 to blaspheme [H8765] H1121 , the child H3209 also that is born H4191 unto thee shall surely [H8800] H4191 die [H8799] .

15 H5416 And Nathan H3212 departed [H8799] H1004 unto his house H3068 . And the LORD H5062 struck [H8799] H3206 the child H223 that Uriah's H802 wife H3205 bare [H8804] H1732 unto David H605 , and it was very sick [H8735] .

16 H1732 David H1245 therefore besought [H8762] H430 God H5288 for the child H1732 ; and David H6684 fasted [H8799] H6685 H935 , and went in [H8804] H7901 , and lay [H8804] H3885 all night [H8804] H776 upon the earth.

17 H2205 And the elders H1004 of his house H6965 arose [H8799] H6965 , and went to him, to raise him up [H8687] H776 from the earth H14 : but he would [H8804] H1262 not, neither did he eat [H8804] H3899 bread with them.

18 H7637 And it came to pass on the seventh H3117 day H3206 , that the child H4191 died [H8799] H5650 . And the servants H1732 of David H3372 feared [H8799] H5046 to tell [H8687] H3206 him that the child H4191 was dead [H8804] H559 : for they said [H8804] H3206 , Behold, while the child H2416 was yet alive H1696 , we spake [H8765] H8085 unto him, and he would not hearken [H8804] H6963 unto our voice H6213 : how will he then H7451 vex H6213 himself [H8804] H559 , if we tell [H8799] H3206 him that the child H4191 is dead [H8804] ?

19 H1732 But when David H7200 saw [H8799] H5650 that his servants H3907 whispered [H8693] H1732 , David H995 perceived [H8799] H3206 that the child H4191 was dead [H8804] H1732 : therefore David H559 said [H8799] H5650 unto his servants H3206 , Is the child H4191 dead [H8804] H559 ? And they said [H8799] H4191 , He is dead [H8804] .

20 H1732 Then David H6965 arose [H8799] H776 from the earth H7364 , and washed [H8799] H5480 , and anointed [H8686] H2498 himself, and changed [H8762] H8071 his apparel H935 , and came [H8799] H1004 into the house H3068 of the LORD H7812 , and worshipped [H8691] H935 : then he came [H8799] H1004 to his own house H7592 ; and when he required [H8799] H7760 , they set [H8799] H3899 bread H398 before him, and he did eat [H8799] .

21 H559 Then said [H8799] H5650 his servants H1697 unto him, What thing H6213 is this that thou hast done [H8804] H6684 ? thou didst fast [H8804] H1058 and weep [H8799] H3206 for the child H2416 , while it was alive H3206 ; but when the child H4191 was dead [H8804] H6965 , thou didst rise [H8804] H398 and eat [H8799] H3899 bread.

22 H559 And he said [H8799] H3206 , While the child H2416 was yet alive H6684 , I fasted [H8804] H1058 and wept [H8799] H559 : for I said [H8804] H3045 , Who can tell [H8802] H3068 whether GOD H2603 will be gracious [H8804] [H8675] H2603 [H8762] H3206 to me, that the child H2416 may live?

23 H4191 But now he is dead [H8804] H6684 , wherefore should I fast [H8802] H3201 ? can [H8799] H7725 I bring him back again [H8687] H1980 ? I shall go [H8802] H7725 to him, but he shall not return [H8799] to me.

24 H1732 And David H5162 comforted [H8762] H1339 Bathsheba H802 his wife H935 , and went in [H8799] H7901 unto her, and lay [H8799] H3205 with her: and she bare [H8799] H1121 a son H7121 , and he called [H8799] H8034 his name H8010 Solomon H3068 : and the LORD H157 loved [H8804] him.

25 H7971 And he sent [H8799] H3027 by the hand H5416 of Nathan H5030 the prophet H7121 ; and he called [H8799] H8034 his name H3041 Jedidiah H3068 , because of the LORD.

26 H3097 And Joab H3898 fought [H8735] H7237 against Rabbah H1121 of the children H5983 of Ammon H3920 , and took [H8799] H4410 the royal H5892 city.

27 H3097 And Joab H7971 sent [H8799] H4397 messengers H1732 to David H559 , and said [H8799] H3898 , I have fought [H8738] H7237 against Rabbah H3920 , and have taken [H8804] H5892 the city H4325 of waters.

28 H622 Now therefore gather H3499 the rest H5971 of the people H622 together [H8798] H2583 , and encamp [H8798] H5892 against the city H3920 , and take [H8798] H3920 it: lest I take [H8799] H5892 the city H7121 , and it be called [H8738] H8034 after my name.

29 H1732 And David H622 gathered H5971 all the people H622 together [H8799] H3212 , and went [H8799] H7237 to Rabbah H3898 , and fought [H8735] H3920 against it, and took [H8799] it.

30 H3947 And he took [H8799] H4428 their king's H5850 crown H7218 from off his head H4948 , the weight H3603 whereof was a talent H2091 of gold H3368 with the precious H68 stones H1732 : and it was set on David's H7218 head H3318 . And he brought forth [H8689] H7998 the spoil H5892 of the city H3966 in great H7235 abundance [H8687] .

31 H3318 And he brought forth [H8689] H5971 the people H7760 that were therein, and put [H8799] H4050 them under saws H2757 , and under harrows H1270 of iron H4037 , and under axes H1270 of iron H5674 , and made them pass [H8689] H4404 through the brickkiln H6213 : and thus did [H8799] H5892 he unto all the cities H1121 of the children H5983 of Ammon H1732 . So David H5971 and all the people H7725 returned [H8799] H3389 unto Jerusalem.
