Deuteronomy 5

VIN(i) 1 Moses called all the people of Israel, and said: "Hear, O Israel, the regulations and laws I declare to you today. Learn them and obey them! 2 the LORD our God made a covenant with us at Horeb. 3 It was not with our ancestors that the LORD made this covenant, but with these of us who are here alive today. 4 The LORD spoke to you face to face on the mountain from the fire. 5 I stood at that time as mediator between the LORD and you to declare his message to you, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain. He said: 6 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 7 You shall have no other gods before me. 8 "'Do not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above, or on the earth below, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: 9 You shall not bow down to them in worship or serve them; because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the iniquity of their parents, to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, 10 but showing gracious love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. 11 “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name. 12 Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God: you will not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maid-servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates, that your manservant and your maid-servant may rest as well as you. 15 Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm: therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. 16 Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be made longer, and that it may go well with you in the land which the LORD your God gives you. 17 You shall not murder. 18 You shall not commit adultery. 19 You shall not steal. 20 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 21 “You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. Neither shall you desire your neighbor's house, his field, or his male servant, or his female servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.” 22 "These commands the LORD declared in a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from out of the fire and dark clouds, and nothing more was added. He inscribed them on two tablets of stones and gave them to me. 23 And after hearing the voice which came out of the dark while the mountain was burning with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your chiefs came to me, 24 and ye said, 'Behold, the LORD our God hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the fire, and we have seen this day that God may talk with a man and he yet live. 25 Now therefore, why should we die? This great fire will consume us. If we continue to listen to the voice of the LORD our God any longer, we'll die. 26 For what mortal man has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire like we did, and lived? 27 "'They spoke to Moses: 'Moses, go and listen to everything that the LORD our God says. Then tell us whatever the LORD our God tells you. We will listen and obey.' 28 "the LORD heard the words you spoke to me. He told me: 'I have heard what the people said to you. Everything they said was good. 29 Oh that they had such a heart with them to fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might go well with them and with their children forever. 30 "'Go and tell them to return to their tents, 31 But you stay here with me. I will give you all the commands, laws, and rules that you must teach them to obey in the land I will give them to possess. 32 Be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you. Never turn to the right or to the left. 33 Walk in every way that the LORD your God commanded you, so that life may go well for you, and so that you will prolong your days in the land that you will possess.'"
