8 H935 then they came H1436 to Gedaliah H4708 to Mizpah, H3458 Ishmael H1121 the son H5418 of Nethaniah, H3110 and Johanan H3129 and Jonathan H1121 the sons H7143 of Kareah, H8304 and Seraiah H1121 the son H8576 of Tanhumeth, H1121 and the sons H5778 of Ephai H5200 the Netophathite, H3153 and Jezaniah H1121 the son H4602 of the Maacathite, H582 they and their men.

9 H1436 Gedaliah H1121 the son H296 of Ahikam H1121 the son H8227 of Shaphan H7650 swore H582 to them and to their men, H559 saying, H3372 Don't be afraid H5647 to serve H3778 the Chaldeans: H3427 dwell in H776 the land, H5647 and serve H4428 the king H894 of Babylon, H3190 and it shall be well with you.

10 H3427 As for me, behold, I will dwell H4709 at Mizpah, H5975 to stand H3778 before the Chaldeans H935 who shall come H622 to us: but you, gather H3196 wine H7019 and summer fruits H8081 and oil, H7760 and put H3627 them in your vessels, H3427 and dwell H5892 in your cities H8610 that you have taken.

13 H3110 Moreover Johanan H1121 the son H7143 of Kareah, H8269 and all the captains H2428 of the forces H7704 who were in the fields, H935 came H1436 to Gedaliah H4708 to Mizpah,

14 H559 and said H3045 to him, Do H3045 you know H1185 that Baalis H4428 the king H1121 of the children of Ammon H7971 has sent H3458 Ishmael H1121 the son H5418 of Nethaniah H5221 to take H1436 your life? But Gedaliah H1121 the son H296 of Ahikam H539 didn't believe them.

15 H3110 Then Johanan H1121 the son H7143 of Kareah H559 spoke H1436 to Gedaliah H4709 in Mizpah H5643 secretly, H559 saying, H3212 Please let me go, H5221 and I will kill H3458 Ishmael H1121 the son H5418 of Nethaniah, H376 and no man H3045 shall know H5221 it: why should he take H3064 your life, that all the Jews H6908 who are gathered H6327 to you should be scattered, H7611 and the remnant H3063 of Judah H6 perish?

16 H1436 But Gedaliah H1121 the son H296 of Ahikam H559 said H3110 to Johanan H1121 the son H7143 of Kareah, H6213 You shall not do H1697 this thing; H1696 for you speak H8267 falsely H3458 of Ishmael.
