⁴ They think it strange that you do not run with them into the same excess of dissipation, and they speak evil of you:

²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.

¹³ And not many days after the younger son gathered everything together, and took a journey into a far country, and there wasted his estate with riotous living.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and contradicted those things which were spoken by Paul, and reviled him.

⁶ And when they opposed and reviled him, he shook out his clothing, and said to them, May your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: henceforth I will go to the Gentiles.

¹³ Let us conduct ourselves properly, as in the day; not in carousing and drunkenness, not in debauchery and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.

¹⁸ And do not be drunk with wine, which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit;

¹² Conduct yourselves righteously among the Gentiles: that, though they speak against you as evildoers, they may behold your good works and glorify God on the day of visitation.

¹⁶ Keeping a good conscience, so that when you are falsely accused, those who revile your good behaviour in Christ may be ashamed.

¹² But these, like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of things they do not understand; and shall utterly perish with them in the same destruction;

²² But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog returns to its own vomit; and the sow that is washed returns to wallowing in the mire.

¹⁰ But these men speak evil of things which they do not understand: but what they know by instinct, like brute beasts, by these things they corrupt themselves.
