1 Chronicles 17 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house , that David said to Nathan the prophet , Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars , but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.

2 H5416 Then Nathan H559 said [H8799] H1732 unto David H6213 , Do [H8798] H3824 all that is in thine heart H430 ; for God is with thee.

3 H3915 And it came to pass the same night H1697 , that the word H430 of God H5416 came to Nathan H559 , saying [H8800] ,

4 H3212 Go [H8798] H559 and tell [H8804] H1732 David H5650 my servant H559 , Thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H1129 , Thou shalt not build [H8799] H1004 me an house H3427 to dwell in [H8800] :

5 H3427 For I have not dwelt in [H8804] H1004 an house H3117 since the day H5927 that I brought up [H8689] H3478 Israel H3117 unto this day H168 ; but have gone from tent H168 to tent H4908 , and from one tabernacle to another .

6 H1980 Wheresoever I have walked [H8694] H3478 with all Israel H1696 , spake [H8765] H1697 I a word H259 to any H8199 of the judges [H8802] H3478 of Israel H6680 , whom I commanded [H8765] H7462 to feed [H8800] H5971 my people H559 , saying [H8800] H1129 , Why have ye not built [H8804] H1004 me an house H730 of cedars?

7 H559 Now therefore thus shalt thou say [H8799] H5650 unto my servant H1732 David H559 , Thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H3947 , I took [H8804] H5116 thee from the sheepcote H310 , even from following H6629 the sheep H5057 , that thou shouldest be ruler H5971 over my people H3478 Israel:

8 H1980 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked [H8804] H3772 , and have cut off [H8686] H341 all thine enemies [H8802] H6440 from before H6213 thee, and have made [H8804] H8034 thee a name H8034 like the name H1419 of the great men H776 that are in the earth.

9 H7760 Also I will ordain [H8804] H4725 a place H5971 for my people H3478 Israel H5193 , and will plant [H8804] H7931 them, and they shall dwell [H8804] H7264 in their place, and shall be moved [H8799] H1121 no more; neither shall the children H5766 of wickedness H1086 waste [H8763] H3254 them any more [H8686] H7223 , as at the beginning,

10 H3117 And since the time H6680 that I commanded [H8765] H8199 judges [H8802] H5971 to be over my people H3478 Israel H3665 . Moreover I will subdue [H8689] H341 all thine enemies [H8802] H5046 . Furthermore I tell [H8686] H3068 thee that the LORD H1129 will build [H8799] H1004 thee an house.

11 H3117 And it shall come to pass, when thy days H4390 be expired [H8804] H3212 that thou must go [H8800] H1 to be with thy fathers H6965 , that I will raise up [H8689] H2233 thy seed H310 after H1121 thee, which shall be of thy sons H3559 ; and I will establish [H8689] H4438 his kingdom.

12 H1129 He shall build [H8799] H1004 me an house H3559 , and I will stablish [H8790] H3678 his throne H5704 for H5769 ever.

13 H1 I will be his father H1121 , and he shall be my son H5493 : and I will not take H2617 my mercy H5493 away [H8686] H5493 from him, as I took [H8689] H6440 it from him that was before thee:

14 H5975 But I will settle [H8689] H1004 him in mine house H4438 and in my kingdom H5769 for ever H3678 : and his throne H3559 shall be established [H8737] H5704 for H5769 evermore.

15 H1697 According to all these words H2377 , and according to all this vision H5416 , so did Nathan H1696 speak [H8765] H1732 unto David.

16 H1732 And David H4428 the king H935 came [H8799] H3427 and sat [H8799] H6440 before H3068 the LORD H559 , and said [H8799] H3068 , Who am I, O LORD H430 God H1004 , and what is mine house H935 , that thou hast brought [H8689] H1988 me hitherto?

17 H6994 And yet this was a small thing [H8799] H5869 in thine eyes H430 , O God H1696 ; for thou hast also spoken [H8762] H5650 of thy servant's H1004 house H7350 for a great while to come H7200 , and hast regarded [H8804] H8448 me according to the estate H120 of a man H4609 of high degree H3068 , O LORD H430 God.

18 H3254 What can H1732 David H3254 speak more [H8686] H3519 to thee for the honour H5650 of thy servant H3045 ? for thou knowest [H8804] H5650 thy servant.

19 H3068 O LORD H5650 , for thy servant's H3820 sake, and according to thine own heart H6213 , hast thou done [H8804] H1420 all this greatness H3045 , in making known [H8687] H1420 all these great things.

20 H3068 O LORD H430 , there is none like thee, neither is there any God H2108 beside H8085 thee, according to all that we have heard [H8804] H241 with our ears.

21 H259 And what one H1471 nation H776 in the earth H5971 is like thy people H3478 Israel H430 , whom God H1980 went [H8804] H6299 to redeem [H8800] H5971 to be his own people H7760 , to make [H8800] H8034 thee a name H1420 of greatness H3372 and terribleness [H8737] H1644 , by driving out [H8763] H1471 nations H6440 from before H5971 thy people H6299 , whom thou hast redeemed [H8804] H4714 out of Egypt?

22 H5971 For thy people H3478 Israel H5414 didst thou make [H8799] H5971 thine own people H5704 for H5769 ever H3068 ; and thou, LORD H430 , becamest their God.

23 H3068 Therefore now, LORD H1697 , let the thing H1696 that thou hast spoken [H8765] H5650 concerning thy servant H1004 and concerning his house H539 be established [H8735] H5704 for H5769 ever H6213 , and do [H8798] H1696 as thou hast said [H8765] .

24 H539 Let it even be established [H8735] H8034 , that thy name H1431 may be magnified [H8799] H5704 for H5769 ever H559 , saying [H8800] H3068 , The LORD H6635 of hosts H430 is the God H3478 of Israel H430 , even a God H3478 to Israel H1004 : and let the house H1732 of David H5650 thy servant H3559 be established [H8737] H6440 before thee.

25 H430 For thou, O my God H1540 , hast told [H8804] H241 H5650 thy servant H1129 that thou wilt build [H8800] H1004 him an house H5650 : therefore thy servant H4672 hath found [H8804] H6419 in his heart to pray [H8692] H6440 before thee.

26 H3068 And now, LORD H430 , thou art God H1696 , and hast promised [H8762] H2896 this goodness H5650 unto thy servant:

27 H2974 Now therefore let it please [H8689] H1288 thee to bless [H8763] H1004 the house H5650 of thy servant H6440 , that it may be before H5769 thee for ever H1288 : for thou blessest [H8765] H3068 , O LORD H1288 , and it shall be blessed [H8794] H5769 for ever.

ERV⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD [dwelleth] under curtains. ² And Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee. ³ And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, ⁴ Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in: ⁵ for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from [one] tabernacle [to another]. ⁶ In all places wherein I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedar? ⁷ Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people Israel: ⁸ and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth. ⁹ And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first, ¹⁰ and [as] from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will subdue all thine enemies. Moreover I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house. ¹¹ And it shall come to pass, when thy days be fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. ¹² He shall build me an house, and I will establish his throne for ever. ¹³ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: ¹⁴ but I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for ever. ¹⁵ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David. ¹⁶ Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? ¹⁷ And this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; but thou hast spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God. ¹⁸ What can David [say] yet more unto thee concerning the honour which is done to thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant. ¹⁹ O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all [these] great things. ²⁰ O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. ²¹ And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, to make thee a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before thy people, which thou redeemedst out of Egypt? ²² For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God. ²³ And now, O LORD, let the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as thou hast spoken. ²⁴ And let thy name be established and magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and the house of David thy servant is established before thee. ²⁵ For thou, O my God, hast revealed to thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore hath thy servant found [in his heart] to pray before thee. ²⁶ And now, O LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this good thing unto thy servant: ²⁷ and now it hath pleased thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O LORD, hast blessed, and it is blessed for ever.
