1 Samuel 11 Then Nahash the Ammonite came up , and encamped against Jabeshgilead : and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash , Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

1 H5176 Then Nahash H5984 the Ammonite H5927 came up [H8799] H2583 , and encamped [H8799] H3003 against Jabeshgilead H1568 H582 : and all the men H3003 of Jabesh H559 said [H8799] H5176 unto Nahash H3772 , Make [H8798] H1285 a covenant H5647 with us, and we will serve [H8799] thee.

2 H5176 And Nahash H5984 the Ammonite H559 answered [H8799] H2063 them, On this H3772 condition will I make [H8799] H5365 a covenant with you, that I may thrust out [H8800] H3225 all your right H5869 eyes H7760 , and lay [H8804] H2781 it for a reproach H3478 upon all Israel.

3 H2205 And the elders H3003 of Jabesh H559 said [H8799] H7651 unto him, Give us seven H3117 days H7503 ' respite [H8685] H7971 , that we may send [H8799] H4397 messengers H1366 unto all the coasts H3478 of Israel H3467 : and then, if there be no man to save [H8688] H3318 us, we will come out [H8804] to thee.

4 H935 Then came [H8799] H4397 the messengers H1390 to Gibeah H7586 of Saul H1696 , and told [H8762] H1697 the tidings H241 in the ears H5971 of the people H5971 : and all the people H5375 lifted up [H8799] H6963 their voices H1058 , and wept [H8799] .

5 H7586 And, behold, Saul H935 came [H8804] H310 after H1241 the herd H7704 out of the field H7586 ; and Saul H559 said [H8799] H5971 , What aileth the people H1058 that they weep [H8799] H5608 ? And they told [H8762] H1697 him the tidings H582 of the men H3003 of Jabesh.

6 H7307 And the Spirit H430 of God H6743 came [H8799] H7586 upon Saul H8085 when he heard [H8800] H1697 those tidings H639 , and his anger H2734 was kindled [H8799] H3966 greatly.

7 H3947 And he took [H8799] H6776 a yoke H1241 of oxen H5408 , and hewed them in pieces [H8762] H7971 , and sent [H8762] H1366 them throughout all the coasts H3478 of Israel H3027 by the hands H4397 of messengers H559 , saying [H8800] H3318 , Whosoever cometh not forth [H8802] H310 after H7586 Saul H310 and after H8050 Samuel H6213 , so shall it be done [H8735] H1241 unto his oxen H6343 . And the fear H3068 of the LORD H5307 fell [H8799] H5971 on the people H3318 , and they came out [H8799] H259 with one H376 consent.

8 H6485 And when he numbered [H8799] H966 them in Bezek H1121 , the children H3478 of Israel H7969 were three H3967 hundred H505 thousand H376 , and the men H3063 of Judah H7970 thirty H505 thousand.

9 H559 And they said [H8799] H4397 unto the messengers H935 that came [H8802] H559 , Thus shall ye say [H8799] H376 unto the men H3003 of Jabeshgilead H1568 H4279 , To morrow H8121 , by that time the sun H2527 be hot H8668 , ye shall have help H4397 . And the messengers H935 came [H8799] H5046 and shewed [H8686] H582 it to the men H3003 of Jabesh H8055 ; and they were glad [H8799] .

10 H582 Therefore the men H3003 of Jabesh H559 said [H8799] H4279 , To morrow H3318 we will come out [H8799] H6213 unto you, and ye shall do [H8804] H5869 with us all that seemeth H2896 good unto you.

11 H4283 And it was so on the morrow H7586 , that Saul H7760 put [H8799] H5971 the people H7969 in three H7218 companies H935 ; and they came [H8799] H8432 into the midst H4264 of the host H1242 in the morning H821 watch H5221 , and slew [H8686] H5983 the Ammonites H2527 until the heat H3117 of the day H7604 : and it came to pass, that they which remained [H8737] H6327 were scattered [H8799] H8147 , so that two H7604 of them were not left [H8738] H3162 together.

12 H5971 And the people H559 said [H8799] H8050 unto Samuel H559 , Who is he that said [H8802] H7586 , Shall Saul H4427 reign [H8799] H5414 over us? bring [H8798] H582 the men H4191 , that we may put them to death [H8686] .

13 H7586 And Saul H559 said [H8799] H376 , There shall not a man H4191 be put to death [H8714] H3117 this day H3117 : for to day H3068 the LORD H6213 hath wrought [H8804] H8668 salvation H3478 in Israel.

14 H559 Then said [H8799] H8050 Samuel H5971 to the people H3212 , Come [H8798] H3212 , and let us go [H8799] H1537 to Gilgal H2318 , and renew [H8762] H4410 the kingdom there.

15 H5971 And all the people H3212 went [H8799] H1537 to Gilgal H7586 ; and there they made Saul H4427 king [H8686] H6440 before H3068 the LORD H1537 in Gilgal H2076 ; and there they sacrificed [H8799] H2077 sacrifices H8002 of peace offerings H6440 before H3068 the LORD H7586 ; and there Saul H582 and all the men H3478 of Israel H8055 rejoiced [H8799] H3966 greatly.
