Thomson⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹¹ When the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, and, in the Lycaonian dialect, said, "The Gods are come down to us in the likeness of men." ¹² And they called Barnabas, Jupiter: and Paul, Mercury; because he was the chief speaker. ¹³ And the priests of Jupiter's temple which was before their city, brought bulls with garlands to the gates, and together with the multitude, desired to offer a sacrifice. ¹⁴ But the apostles Barnabas and Paul, hearing of this, rent their clothes and ran in among the crowd, crying out ¹⁵ and saying, Men, why do ye these things?
