Genesis 42

  1 H7200 וירא saw H3290 יעקב Now when Jacob H3588 כי that H3426 ישׁ there was H7668 שׁבר corn H4714 במצרים in Egypt, H559 ויאמר said H3290 יעקב Jacob H1121 לבניו unto his sons, H4100 למה Why H7200 תתראו׃ do ye look one upon another?
  2 H559 ויאמר And he said, H2009 הנה Behold, H8085 שׁמעתי I have heard H3588 כי that H3426 ישׁ there is H7668 שׁבר corn H4714 במצרים in Egypt: H3381 רדו get you down H8033 שׁמה thither, H7666 ושׁברו and buy H8033 לנו משׁם for us from thence; H2421 ונחיה that we may live, H3808 ולא and not H4191 נמות׃ die.
  3 H3381 וירדו went down H251 אחי brethren H3130 יוסף And Joseph's H6235 עשׂרה ten H7666 לשׁבר to buy H1250 בר corn H4714 ממצרים׃  
  4 H853 ואת   H1144 בנימין But Benjamin, H251 אחי brother, H3130 יוסף Joseph's H3808 לא not H7971 שׁלח sent H3290 יעקב Jacob H854 את with H251 אחיו his brethren; H3588 כי for H559 אמר he said, H6435 פן Lest peradventure H7122 יקראנו befall H611 אסון׃ mischief
  5 H935 ויבאו came H1121 בני And the sons H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H7666 לשׁבר to buy H8432 בתוך among H935 הבאים those that came: H3588 כי for H1961 היה was H7458 הרעב the famine H776 בארץ in the land H3667 כנען׃ of Canaan.
  6 H3130 ויוסף And Joseph H1931 הוא he H7989 השׁליט the governor H5921 על over H776 הארץ the land, H1931 הוא   H7666 המשׁביר that sold H3605 לכל to all H5971 עם the people H776 הארץ of the land: H935 ויבאו came, H251 אחי brethren H3130 יוסף and Joseph's H7812 וישׁתחוו and bowed down themselves H639 לו אפים before him their faces H776 ארצה׃ to the earth.
  7 H7200 וירא saw H3130 יוסף And Joseph H853 את   H251 אחיו his brethren, H5234 ויכרם and he knew H5234 ויתנכר them, but made himself strange H413 אליהם unto H1696 וידבר them, and spoke H854 אתם unto H7186 קשׁות roughly H559 ויאמר them; and he said H413 אלהם unto H370 מאין   H935 באתם come H559 ויאמרו ye? And they said, H776 מארץ   H3667 כנען of Canaan H7666 לשׁבר to buy H400 אכל׃ food.
  8 H5234 ויכר knew H3130 יוסף And Joseph H853 את   H251 אחיו his brethren, H1992 והם but they H3808 לא not H5234 הכרהו׃ knew
  9 H2142 ויזכר remembered H3130 יוסף And Joseph H853 את   H2472 החלמות the dreams H834 אשׁר which H2492 חלם he dreamed H559 להם ויאמר of them, and said H413 אלהם unto H7270 מרגלים spies; H859 אתם them, Ye H7200 לראות to see H853 את   H6172 ערות the nakedness H776 הארץ of the land H935 באתם׃ ye are come.
  10 H559 ויאמרו And they said H413 אליו unto H3808 לא him, Nay, H113 אדני my lord, H5650 ועבדיך are thy servants H935 באו come. H7666 לשׁבר but to buy H400 אכל׃ food
  11 H3605 כלנו all H1121 בני sons; H376 אישׁ man's H259 אחד one H5168 נחנו We H3651 כנים true H587 אנחנו we H3808 לא no H1961 היו are H5650 עבדיך thy servants H7270 מרגלים׃ spies.
  12 H559 ויאמר And he said H413 אלהם unto H3808 לא them, Nay, H3588 כי but H6172 ערות the nakedness H776 הארץ of the land H935 באתם ye are come. H7200 לראות׃ to see
  13 H559 ויאמרו And they said, H8147 שׁנים twelve H6240 עשׂר twelve H5650 עבדיך Thy servants H251 אחים brethren, H587 אנחנו   H1121 בני the sons H376 אישׁ man H259 אחד of one H776 בארץ in the land H3667 כנען of Canaan; H2009 והנה and, behold, H6996 הקטן the youngest H854 את with H1 אבינו our father, H3117 היום this day H259 והאחד and one H369 איננו׃ not.
  14 H559 ויאמר said H413 אלהם unto H3130 יוסף And Joseph H1931 הוא them, That H834 אשׁר that H1696 דברתי I spoke H413 אלכם unto H559 לאמר you, saying, H7270 מרגלים spies: H859 אתם׃ Ye
  15 H2063 בזאת Hereby H974 תבחנו ye shall be proved: H2416 חי By the life H6547 פרעה of Pharaoh H518 אם except H3318 תצאו ye shall not go forth H2088 מזה hence, H3588 כי except H518 אם   H935 בבוא come H251 אחיכם brother H6996 הקטן your youngest H2008 הנה׃ hither.
  16 H7971 שׁלחו Send H4480 מכם of H259 אחד one H3947 ויקח you, and let him fetch H853 את   H251 אחיכם your brother, H859 ואתם and ye H631 האסרו shall be kept in prison, H974 ויבחנו may be proved, H1697 דבריכם that your words H571 האמת whether truth H854 אתכם in H518 ואם you: or else H3808 לא you: or else H2416 חי by the life H6547 פרעה of Pharaoh H3588 כי surely H7270 מרגלים spies. H859 אתם׃ ye
  17 H622 ויאסף   H853 אתם   H413 אל into H4929 משׁמר ward H7969 שׁלשׁת three H3117 ימים׃ days.
  18 H559 ויאמר said H413 אלהם unto H3130 יוסף And Joseph H3117 ביום day, H7992 השׁלישׁי them the third H2063 זאת This H6213 עשׂו do, H2421 וחיו and live; H853 את   H430 האלהים God: H589 אני I H3372 ירא׃  
  19 H518 אם If H3651 כנים true H859 אתם ye H251 אחיכם of your brethren H259 אחד let one H631 יאסר be bound H1004 בבית in the house H4929 משׁמרכם of your prison: H859 ואתם ye, H1980 לכו go H935 הביאו carry H7668 שׁבר corn H7459 רעבון for the famine H1004 בתיכם׃ of your houses:
  20 H853 ואת   H251 אחיכם brother H6996 הקטן your youngest H935 תביאו But bring H413 אלי unto H539 ויאמנו be verified, H1697 דבריכם me; so shall your words H3808 ולא and ye shall not H4191 תמותו die. H6213 ויעשׂו And they did H3651 כן׃ so.
  21 H559 ויאמרו And they said H376 אישׁ one H413 אל to H251 אחיו another, H61 אבל verily H818 אשׁמים guilty H587 אנחנו We H5921 על concerning H251 אחינו our brother, H834 אשׁר in that H7200 ראינו we saw H6869 צרת the anguish H5315 נפשׁו of his soul, H2603 בהתחננו when he besought H413 אלינו when he besought H3808 ולא us, and we would not H8085 שׁמענו hear; H5921 על therefore H3651 כן therefore H935 באה come H413 אלינו upon H6869 הצרה distress H2063 הזאת׃ is this
  22 H6030 ויען answered H7205 ראובן And Reuben H853 אתם   H559 לאמר them, saying, H3808 הלוא I not H559 אמרתי Spoke H413 אליכם unto H559 לאמר you, saying, H408 אל Do not H2398 תחטאו sin H3206 בילד against the child; H3808 ולא and ye would not H8085 שׁמעתם hear? H1571 וגם also H1818 דמו his blood H2009 הנה therefore, behold, H1875 נדרשׁ׃ is required.
  23 H1992 והם And they H3808 לא not H3045 ידעו knew H3588 כי that H8085 שׁמע understood H3130 יוסף Joseph H3588 כי for H3887 המליץ them by an interpreter. H996 בינתם׃ he spoke unto
  24 H5437 ויסב And he turned himself about H5921 מעליהם from H1058 ויבך them, and wept; H7725 וישׁב and returned H413 אלהם to H1696 וידבר them again, and communed H413 אלהם with H3947 ויקח them, and took H853 מאתם   H853 את   H8095 שׁמעון them Simeon, H631 ויאסר and bound H853 אתו   H5869 לעיניהם׃ him before their eyes.
  25 H6680 ויצו commanded H3130 יוסף Then Joseph H4390 וימלאו to fill H853 את   H3627 כליהם their sacks H1250 בר with corn, H7725 ולהשׁיב and to restore H3701 כספיהם money H376 אישׁ every man's H413 אל into H8242 שׂקו his sack, H5414 ולתת and to give H6720 להם צדה them provision H1870 לדרך for the way: H6213 ויעשׂ did H3651 להם כן׃ and thus
  26 H5375 וישׂאו   H853 את   H7668 שׁברם with the corn, H5921 על   H2543 חמריהם their asses H1980 וילכו and departed H8033 משׁם׃ thence.
  27 H6605 ויפתח of them opened H259 האחד And as one H853 את   H8242 שׂקו his sack H5414 לתת to give H4554 מספוא provender H2543 לחמרו his ass H4411 במלון in the inn, H7200 וירא he espied H853 את   H3701 כספו his money; H2009 והנה for, behold, H1931 הוא it H6310 בפי mouth. H572 אמתחתו׃ in his sack's
  28 H559 ויאמר And he said H413 אל unto H251 אחיו his brethren, H7725 הושׁב is restored; H3701 כספי My money H1571 וגם even H2009 הנה and, lo, H572 באמתחתי in my sack: H3318 ויצא failed H3820 לבם and their heart H2729 ויחרדו and they were afraid, H376 אישׁ one H413 אל to H251 אחיו another, H559 לאמר saying H4100 מה What H2063 זאת this H6213 עשׂה hath done H430 אלהים׃ God
  29 H935 ויבאו And they came H413 אל unto H3290 יעקב Jacob H1 אביהם their father H776 ארצה unto the land H3667 כנען of Canaan, H5046 ויגידו and told H853 לו את   H3605 כל him all H7136 הקרת that befell H853 אתם   H559 לאמר׃ unto them; saying,
  30 H1696 דבר spoke H582 האישׁ   H113 אדני the lord H776 הארץ of the land, H854 אתנו to H7186 קשׁות roughly H5414 ויתן us, and took H853 אתנו   H7270 כמרגלים us for spies H853 את   H776 הארץ׃ of the country.
  31 H559 ונאמר And we said H413 אליו unto H3651 כנים true H587 אנחנו him, We H3808 לא no H1961 היינו we are H7270 מרגלים׃ spies:
  32 H8147 שׁנים twelve H6240 עשׂר twelve H587 אנחנו We H251 אחים brethren, H1121 בני sons H1 אבינו of our father; H259 האחד one H369 איננו not, H6996 והקטן and the youngest H3117 היום this day H854 את with H1 אבינו our father H776 בארץ in the land H3667 כנען׃ of Canaan.
  33 H559 ויאמר said H413 אלינו unto H376 האישׁ And the man, H113 אדני the lord H776 הארץ of the country, H2063 בזאת us, Hereby H3045 אדע shall I know H3588 כי that H3651 כנים true H859 אתם ye H251 אחיכם of your brethren H259 האחד one H3240 הניחו   H854 אתי with H853 ואת   H7459 רעבון the famine H1004 בתיכם of your households, H3947 קחו me, and take H1980 ולכו׃ and be gone:
  34 H935 והביאו And bring H853 את   H251 אחיכם brother H6996 הקטן your youngest H413 אלי unto H3045 ואדעה me: then shall I know H3588 כי that H3808 לא no H7270 מרגלים spies, H859 אתם ye H3588 כי but H3651 כנים true H859 אתם ye H853 את   H251 אחיכם you your brother, H5414 אתן will I deliver H853 לכם ואת   H776 הארץ in the land. H5503 תסחרו׃ and ye shall traffic
  35 H1961 ויהי And it came to pass H1992 הם as they H7324 מריקים emptied H8242 שׂקיהם their sacks, H2009 והנה that, behold, H376 אישׁ every man's H6872 צרור bundle H3701 כספו of money H8242 בשׂקו in his sack: H7200 ויראו saw H853 את   H6872 צררות the bundles H3701 כספיהם of money, H1992 המה and when they H1 ואביהם and their father H3372 וייראו׃ they were afraid.
  36 H559 ויאמר said H413 אלהם unto H3290 יעקב And Jacob H1 אביהם their father H853 אתי   H7921 שׁכלתם them, Me have ye bereaved H3130 יוסף Joseph H369 איננו not, H8095 ושׁמעון and Simeon H369 איננו not, H853 ואת   H1144 בנימן Benjamin H3947 תקחו and ye will take H5921 עלי against H1961 היו these things are H3605 כלנה׃ all
  37 H559 ויאמר spoke H7205 ראובן And Reuben H413 אל unto H1 אביו his father, H559 לאמר saying, H853 את   H8147 שׁני my two H1121 בני sons, H4191 תמית Slay H518 אם if H3808 לא him not H935 אביאנו I bring H413 אליך to H5414 תנה thee: deliver H853 אתו   H5921 על him into H3027 ידי my hand, H589 ואני and I H7725 אשׁיבנו will bring H413 אליך׃ him to
  38 H559 ויאמר And he said, H3808 לא shall not H3381 ירד go down H1121 בני My son H5973 עמכם with H3588 כי you; for H251 אחיו his brother H4191 מת is dead, H1931 והוא and he H905 לבדו alone: H7604 נשׁאר is left H7122 וקראהו befall H611 אסון if mischief H1870 בדרך him by the way H834 אשׁר in the which H1980 תלכו ye go, H3381 בה והורדתם then shall ye bring down H853 את   H7872 שׂיבתי my gray hairs H3015 ביגון with sorrow H7585 שׁאולה׃ to the grave.
