4 H1835 דן Dan, H5321 ונפתלי and Naphtali, H1410 גד Gad, H836 ואשׁר׃ and Asher.

5 H1961 ויהי were H3605 כל And all H5315 נפשׁ the souls H3318 יצאי that came out H3409 ירך of the loins H3290 יעקב of Jacob H7657 שׁבעים seventy H5315 נפשׁ souls: H3130 ויוסף for Joseph H1961 היה was H4714 במצרים׃ in Egypt

8 H6965 ויקם Now there arose up H4428 מלך king H2319 חדשׁ a new H5921 על over H4714 מצרים Egypt, H834 אשׁר which H3808 לא not H3045 ידע knew H853 את H3130 יוסף׃ Joseph.

9 H559 ויאמר And he said H413 אל unto H5971 עמו his people, H2009 הנה Behold, H5971 עם the people H1121 בני of the children H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H7227 רב more H6099 ועצום and mightier H4480 ממנו׃ than

10 H3051 הבה Come H2449 נתחכמה on, let us deal wisely H6435 לו פן with them; lest H7235 ירבה they multiply, H1961 והיה and it come to pass, H3588 כי that, when H7122 תקראנה there falleth out H4421 מלחמה any war, H3254 ונוסף join H1571 גם also H1931 הוא they H5921 על unto H8130 שׂנאינו our enemies, H3898 ונלחם and fight H5927 בנו ועלה against us, and get them up H4480 מן out of H776 הארץ׃ the land.

11 H7760 וישׂימו Therefore they did set H5921 עליו over H8269 שׂרי them taskmasters H4522 מסים them taskmasters H4616 למען to H6031 ענתו afflict H5450 בסבלתם them with their burdens. H1129 ויבן And they built H5892 ערי cities, H4543 מסכנות treasure H6547 לפרעה for Pharaoh H853 את H6619 פתם Pithom H853 ואת H7486 רעמסס׃ and Rameses.

12 H834 וכאשׁר But the more H6031 יענו they afflicted H853 אתו H3651 כן them, the more H7235 ירבה they multiplied H3651 וכן and grew. H6555 יפרץ and grew. H6973 ויקצו And they were grieved H6440 מפני because H1121 בני of the children H3478 ישׂראל׃ of Israel.

13 H5647 ויעבדו to serve H4713 מצרים H853 את H1121 בני made the children H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H6531 בפרך׃ with rigor:

14 H4843 וימררו bitter H853 את H2416 חייהם And they made their lives H5656 בעבדה bondage, H7186 קשׁה with hard H2563 בחמר in mortar, H3843 ובלבנים and in brick, H3605 ובכל and in all manner H5656 עבדה of service H7704 בשׂדה in the field: H853 את H3605 כל all H5656 עבדתם their service, H834 אשׁר wherein H5647 עבדו they made them serve, H6531 בהם בפרך׃ with rigor.

15 H559 ויאמר spoke H4428 מלך And the king H4714 מצרים of Egypt H3205 למילדת midwives, H5680 העברית to the Hebrew H834 אשׁר of which H8034 שׁם the name H259 האחת of the one H8236 שׁפרה Shiphrah, H8034 ושׁם and the name H8145 השׁנית of the other H6326 פועה׃ Puah:

16 H559 ויאמר And he said, H3205 בילדכן When ye do the office of a midwife H853 את H5680 העבריות to the Hebrew women, H7200 וראיתן and see H5921 על upon H70 האבנים the stools; H518 אם if H1121 בן a son, H1931 הוא it H4191 והמתן then ye shall kill H853 אתו H518 ואם him: but if H1323 בת a daughter, H1931 הוא it H2425 וחיה׃ then she shall live.

17 H3372 ותיראן feared H3205 המילדת But the midwives H853 את H430 האלהים God, H3808 ולא not H6213 עשׂו and did H834 כאשׁר as H1696 דבר commanded H413 אליהן commanded H4428 מלך the king H4714 מצרים of Egypt H2421 ותחיין them, but saved H853 את H3206 הילדים׃ the men children

18 H7121 ויקרא called for H4428 מלך And the king H4714 מצרים of Egypt H3205 למילדת the midwives, H559 ויאמר and said H4069 להן מדוע unto them, Why H6213 עשׂיתן have ye done H1697 הדבר thing, H2088 הזה this H2421 ותחיין and have saved H853 את H3206 הילדים׃ the men children

19 H559 ותאמרן said H3205 המילדת And the midwives H413 אל unto H6547 פרעה Pharaoh, H3588 כי Because H3808 לא not H802 כנשׁים women; H4713 המצרית as the Egyptian H5680 העברית the Hebrew women H3588 כי for H2422 חיות lively, H2007 הנה they H2962 בטרם ere H935 תבוא come in H413 אלהן unto H3205 המילדת and are delivered H3205 וילדו׃ the midwives

20 H3190 וייטב dealt well H430 אלהים Therefore God H3205 למילדת with the midwives: H7235 וירב multiplied, H5971 העם and the people H6105 ויעצמו and waxed very mighty. H3966 מאד׃ and waxed very mighty.

21 H1961 ויהי And it came to pass, H3588 כי because H3372 יראו feared H3205 המילדת the midwives H853 את H430 האלהים God, H6213 ויעשׂ that he made H1004 להם בתים׃ them houses.

22 H6680 ויצו charged H6547 פרעה And Pharaoh H3605 לכל all H5971 עמו his people, H559 לאמר saying, H3605 כל Every H1121 הבן son H3209 הילוד that is born H2975 היארה into the river, H7993 תשׁליכהו ye shall cast H3605 וכל and every H1323 הבת daughter H2421 תחיון׃ ye shall save alive.
