Ecclesiastes 8

  1 H2450 Who is as the wise H3045 man ? and who knoweth [H8802]   H6592 the interpretation H1697 of a thing H120 ? a man's H2451 wisdom H6440 maketh his face H215 to shine [H8686]   H5797 , and the boldness H6440 of his face H8132 shall be changed [H8792]  .
  2 H8104 I counsel thee to keep [H8798]   H4428 the king's H6310 commandment H1700 , and that in regard H7621 of the oath H430 of God.
  3 H926 Be not hasty [H8735]   H3212 to go out [H8799]   H6440 of his sight H5975 : stand [H8799]   H7451 not in an evil H1697 thing H6213 ; for he doeth [H8799]   H2654 whatsoever pleaseth [H8799]   him.
  4 H1697 Where the word H4428 of a king H7983 is, there is power H559 : and who may say [H8799]   H6213 unto him, What doest [H8799]   thou?
  5 H8104 Whoso keepeth [H8802]   H4687 the commandment H3045 shall feel [H8799]   H7451 no evil H1697 thing H2450 : and a wise man's H3820 heart H3045 discerneth [H8799]   H6256 both time H4941 and judgment.
  6 H2656 Because to every purpose H3426 there is H6256 time H4941 and judgment H7451 , therefore the misery H120 of man H7227 is great upon him.
  7 H3045 For he knoweth [H8802]   H5046 not that which shall be: for who can tell [H8686]   him when it shall be?
  8 H120 There is no man H7989 that hath power H7307 over the spirit H3607 to retain [H8800]   H7307 the spirit H7983 ; neither hath he power H3117 in the day H4194 of death H4917 : and there is no discharge H4421 in that war H7562 ; neither shall wickedness H4422 deliver [H8762]   H1167 those that are given to it.
  9 H7200 All this have I seen [H8804]   H5414 , and applied [H8800]   H3820 my heart H4639 unto every work H6213 that is done [H8738]   H8121 under the sun H6256 : there is a time H120 wherein one man H7980 ruleth [H8804]   H7451 over another to his own hurt.
  10 H3651 And so H7200 I saw [H8804]   H7563 the wicked H6912 buried [H8803]   H935 , who had come [H8804]   H1980 and gone [H8762]   H4725 from the place H6918 of the holy H7911 , and they were forgotten [H8691]   H5892 in the city H6213 where they had so done [H8804]   H1892 : this is also vanity.
  11 H6599 Because sentence H7451 against an evil H4639 work H6213 is not executed [H8738]   H4120 speedily H3820 , therefore the heart H1121 of the sons H120 of men H4390 is fully set [H8804]   H6213 in them to do [H8800]   H7451 evil.
  12 H2398 Though a sinner [H8802]   H6213 do [H8802]   H7451 evil H3967 an hundred times H748 , and his days be prolonged [H8688]   H3045 , yet surely I know [H8802]   H2896 that it shall be well H3373 with them that fear H430 God H3372 , which fear [H8799]   H6440 before him:
  13 H2896 But it shall not be well H7563 with the wicked H748 , neither shall he prolong [H8686]   H3117 his days H6738 , which are as a shadow H3373 ; because he feareth H6440 not before H430 God.
  14 H3426 There is H1892 a vanity H6213 which is done [H8738]   H776 upon the earth H6662 ; that there be just H5060 men, unto whom it happeneth [H8688]   H4639 according to the work H7563 of the wicked H3426 ; again, there be H7563 wicked H5060 men, to whom it happeneth [H8688]   H4639 according to the work H6662 of the righteous H559 : I said [H8804]   H1571 that this also H1892 is vanity.
  15 H7623 Then I commended [H8765]   H8057 mirth H120 , because a man H2896 hath no better thing H8121 under the sun H398 , than to eat [H8800]   H8354 , and to drink [H8800]   H8055 , and to be merry [H8800]   H3867 : for that shall abide [H8799]   H5999 with him of his labour H3117 the days H2416 of his life H430 , which God H5414 giveth [H8804]   H8121 him under the sun.
  16 H5414 When I applied [H8804]   H3820 mine heart H3045 to know [H8800]   H2451 wisdom H7200 , and to see [H8800]   H6045 the business H6213 that is done [H8738]   H776 upon the earth H3117 : (for also there is that neither day H3915 nor night H7200 seeth [H8802]   H8142 sleep H5869 with his eyes:)
  17 H7200 Then I beheld [H8804]   H4639 all the work H430 of God H120 , that a man H3201 cannot [H8799]   H4672 find out [H8800]   H4639 the work H6213 that is done [H8738]   H8121 under the sun H834 : because H7945 though H120 a man H5998 labour [H8799]   H1245 to seek it out [H8763]   H4672 , yet he shall not find [H8799]   H2450 it; yea further; though a wise H559 man think [H8799]   H3045 to know [H8800]   H3201 it, yet shall he not be able [H8799]   H4672 to find [H8800]   it .

  3 H408 אל Be not H926 תבהל hasty H6440 מפניו out of his sight: H1980 תלך to go H408 אל not H5975 תעמד stand H1697 בדבר thing; H7451 רע in an evil H3588 כי for H3605 כל whatsoever H834 אשׁר whatsoever H2654 יחפץ pleaseth H6213 יעשׂה׃ he doeth
  4 H834 באשׁר Where H1697 דבר the word H4428 מלך of a king H7983 שׁלטון power: H4310 ומי and who H559 יאמר may say H4100 לו מה unto him, What H6213 תעשׂה׃ doest
  5 H8104 שׁומר Whoso keepeth H4687 מצוה the commandment H3808 לא no H3045 ידע shall feel H1697 דבר thing: H7451 רע evil H6256 ועת both time H4941 ומשׁפט and judgment. H3045 ידע discerneth H3820 לב heart H2450 חכם׃ and a wise man's
  6 H3588 כי Because H3605 לכל to every H2656 חפץ purpose H3426 ישׁ there is H6256 עת time H4941 ומשׁפט and judgment, H3588 כי therefore H7451 רעת the misery H120 האדם of man H7227 רבה great H5921 עליו׃ upon
  7 H3588 כי For H369 איננו not H3045 ידע he knoweth H4100 מה that H1961 שׁיהיה which shall be: H3588 כי for H834 כאשׁר him when H1961 יהיה it shall be? H4310 מי who H5046 יגיד׃ can tell
  8 H369 אין no H120 אדם man H7989 שׁליט that hath power H7307 ברוח over the spirit H3607 לכלוא to retain H853 את   H7307 הרוח the spirit; H369 ואין neither H7983 שׁלטון power H3117 ביום in the day H4194 המות of death: H369 ואין and no H4917 משׁלחת discharge H4421 במלחמה in war; H3808 ולא neither H4422 ימלט deliver H7562 רשׁע shall wickedness H853 את   H1167 בעליו׃ those that are given
  9 H853 את   H3605 כל All H2088 זה this H7200 ראיתי have I seen, H5414 ונתון and applied H853 את   H3820 לבי my heart H3605 לכל unto every H4639 מעשׂה work H834 אשׁר that H6213 נעשׂה is done H8478 תחת under H8121 השׁמשׁ the sun: H6256 עת a time H834 אשׁר wherein H7980 שׁלט ruleth over H120 האדם one man H120 באדם another H7451 לרע׃ to his own hurt.
  10 H3651 ובכן And so H7200 ראיתי I saw H7563 רשׁעים the wicked H6912 קברים buried, H935 ובאו who had come H4725 וממקום from the place H6918 קדושׁ of the holy, H1980 יהלכו and gone H7911 וישׁתכחו and they were forgotten H5892 בעיר in the city H834 אשׁר where H3651 כן they had so H6213 עשׂו done: H1571 גם also H2088 זה this H1892 הבל׃ vanity.
  11 H834 אשׁר Because H369 אין is not H6213 נעשׂה executed H6599 פתגם sentence against H4639 מעשׂה work H7451 הרעה an evil H4120 מהרה speedily, H5921 על therefore H3651 כן therefore H4390 מלא is fully set H3820 לב the heart H1121 בני of the sons H120 האדם of men H6213 בהם לעשׂות in them to do H7451 רע׃ evil.
  12 H834 אשׁר Though H2398 חטא a sinner H6213 עשׂה do H7451 רע evil H3967 מאת a hundred times, H748 ומאריך and his be prolonged, H3588 לו כי yet H1571 גם surely H3045 יודע know H589 אני I H834 אשׁר that H1961 יהיה it shall be H2896 טוב well H3372 ליראי fear H430 האלהים God, H834 אשׁר which H3372 ייראו   H6440 מלפניו׃ before
  13 H2896 וטוב well H3808 לא But it shall not H1961 יהיה be H7563 לרשׁע with the wicked, H3808 ולא neither H748 יאריך shall he prolong H3117 ימים days, H6738 כצל as a shadow; H834 אשׁר because H369 איננו not H3373 ירא   H6440 מלפני before H430 אלהים׃ God.
  14 H3426 ישׁ There is H1892 הבל a vanity H834 אשׁר which H6213 נעשׂה is done H5921 על upon H776 הארץ the earth; H834 אשׁר that H3426 ישׁ there be H6662 צדיקים just H834 אשׁר unto whom H5060 מגיע it happeneth H413 אלהם , unto whom H4639 כמעשׂה according to the work H7563 הרשׁעים of the wicked; H3426 וישׁ again, there be H7563 רשׁעים wicked H5060 שׁמגיע whom it happeneth H413 אלהם to H4639 כמעשׂה according to the work H6662 הצדיקים of the righteous: H559 אמרתי I said H1571 שׁגם   H2088 זה that this also H1892 הבל׃ vanity.
  15 H7623 ושׁבחתי commended H589 אני Then I H853 את   H8057 השׂמחה mirth, H834 אשׁר because H369 אין hath no H2896 טוב better H120 לאדם a man H8478 תחת thing under H8121 השׁמשׁ the sun, H3588 כי than H518 אם than H398 לאכול to eat, H8354 ולשׁתות and to drink, H8055 ולשׂמוח and to be merry: H1931 והוא for that H3867 ילונו shall abide H5999 בעמלו with him of his labor H3117 ימי the days H2416 חייו of his life, H834 אשׁר which H5414 נתן giveth H430 לו האלהים God H8478 תחת him under H8121 השׁמשׁ׃ the sun.
  16 H834 כאשׁר When H5414 נתתי I applied H853 את   H3820 לבי mine heart H3045 לדעת to know H2451 חכמה wisdom, H7200 ולראות and to see H853 את   H6045 הענין the business H834 אשׁר that H6213 נעשׂה is done H5921 על upon H776 הארץ the earth: H3588 כי (for H1571 גם also H3117 ביום day H3915 ובלילה nor night H8142 שׁנה sleep H5869 בעיניו with his eyes:) H369 איננו neither H7200 ראה׃ seeth
  17 H7200 וראיתי Then I beheld H853 את   H3605 כל all H4639 מעשׂה the work H430 האלהים of God, H3588 כי that H3808 לא cannot H3201 יוכל cannot H120 האדם a man H4672 למצוא find out H853 את   H4639 המעשׂה the work H834 אשׁר that H6213 נעשׂה is done H8478 תחת under H8121 השׁמשׁ the sun: H7945 בשׁל because H834 אשׁר though H5998 יעמל labor H120 האדם a man H1245 לבקשׁ to seek out, H3808 ולא yet he shall not H4672 ימצא find H1571 וגם yea H518 אם further; though H559 יאמר think H2450 החכם a wise H3045 לדעת to know H3808 לא yet shall he not H3201 יוכל be able H4672 למצא׃ to find
